Arboricultural research focusing on transport land use was lacking in Hong *** highway slopes were registered in the Systematic Identification of Maintenance Responsibility of Slopes in the Territory(SIMAR),abbreviated as SIMAR *** aimed to analyze patterns in the structure and species composition of the tree stock along a highway in Hong Kong and examined how a slope registration system could help explain the characteristics of urban *** 53 slopes and 52 verges along San Tin Highway,Hong Kong were randomly *** trees on each slope and verge were collectively sampled as a tree *** variables,namely tree abundance,species richness,maximum tree height,Shannon-Wiener diversity,Simpson's dominance,and Pielou's evenness were measured for each *** addition,a limited visual tree risk assessment was *** 7,209 trees in 23 species were *** richness was low,ranging from one to eight species per *** and non-SIMAR slopes were *** slopes had significantly higher species richness,diversity,evenness but lower dominance,with mean difference of 1.41 species,0.17,0.17 *** slopes were associated with lower tree risk *** training regression models,boosting as an ensemble method arbitrarily raised the explanatory power and the predictive accuracy of some *** height,length,angle and area could be significant predictors of the biodiversity-related *** research can sample more habitat characteristics related to the structure and species composition of slopes and verges which were important components of urban forestry.

Emoti-shing: Detecting Vishing Attacks by Learning Emotion Dynamics through Hidden Markov Models

This study examines vishing, a form of social engineering scam using voice communication to deceive individuals into revealing sensitive information or losing money. With the rise of smartphone usage, people are more susceptible to vishing attacks. The proposed Emoti-shing model analyzes potential victims’ emotions using Hidden Markov Models to track vishing scams by examining the emotional content of phone call audio conversations. This approach aims to detect vishing scams using biological features of humans, specifically emotions, which cannot be easily masked or spoofed. Experimental results on 30 generated emotions indicate the potential for increased vishing scam detection through this approach.

How Not to Miss a Case of Malaria in Emergency Department in Malaria Non-Endemic Areas? Practical Approach &Experiences in Hong Kong

Human malaria is a life-threatening mosquito-borne protozoan parasitic infection in human involving female anopheline mosquitoes as vector for transmission. It is caused by Plasmodium species, most commonly, P. vivax, P. ovale, P. malariae and P. falciparum, and rarely P. knowlesi. Malaria remains a significant global health issue and is a medical emergency. It is also an important cause of morbidity and mortality in endemic areas, particularly in at-risk groups. In Hong Kong, where malaria is non-endemic, more than 20 cases of malaria per year have been notified in recent years. We still have chances encountering patients with malaria presented to public or private emergency departments. High index of clinical suspicious is utmost important for not missing a case of malaria. A practical approach for prompt identification of patients with severe malaria is essential, followed by appropriate initiation of appropriate effective antimalarial treatment within 24 to 48 hours of symptoms onset after blood taken for thick and thin smears for diagnosis. Vigilance with increased awareness of not falling into common diagnostic traps has to be alerted. The risk of missing any case of malaria presenting to emergency department could be largely minimized.

Aberrant methylation of Glutathione S-transferase P1 and E-cadherin in invasive ductal breast carcinoma and fibroadenoma

Presence of extensive intraductal component in patients undergoing breast conservative surgery predicts presence of residual disease in subsequent completion mastectomy

Background Local recurrence remains a serious problem among patients undergoing breast conservative surgery. This study aimed at identifying risk factors for residual disease after breast conservative surgery. Methods This retrospective study was based on patients with invasive breast cancer who have received breast conservative surgery and subsequent completion mastectomy. All patients had a clear resection margin in the initial operation. We analyzed the association between the presence of residual disease during completion mastectomy and the following risk factors： T staging, young age, and presence of extensive intraductal component （EIC）, a close margin, lymphovascular permeation （LVP）, positivity of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and c-erbB-2. Results Residual disease was encountered in 21 （45.7%） of 46 patients; EIC was present in 28 patients （60.9%）, of whom 17 had residual disease. Presence of EIC during breast conservation surgery was associated with a higher risk of residual disease during completion mastectomy （P=0.011）. Other variables were not statistically significant risk factors for presence of residual disease. No local recurrence was recorded in our cohort, and the disease-free survival and overall survival after completion mastectomy were similar for patients who had residual disease and those who had not. Conclusions The presence of EIC is a significant risk factor for residual disease in patients after breast conservative surgery. Our findings may suggest the indicated value of completion mastectomy in patients with EIC during initial breast conservative surgery to decrease the risk of subsequent local failure.

Potential of a COX-2 inhibitor in lowering chemotherapy-induced neutropenia

Objective This study was initially designed to evaluate the effect of celecoxib on the regimen of 5-fluorouracil,epirubicin,and cyclophosphamide(FEC)combination,followed by docetaxel(T)in neoadjuvant *** unplanned preliminary review on safety was conducted after a halt of the study due to the concerned potential cardiovascular risk of using COX-2 *** We studied 23 consecutive cases of operable breast cancer having received four cycles of FEC(500 mg/m2,100 mg/m2,500 mg/m2)followed by four cycles of T(100 mg/m2)with concurrent celecoxib(400 mg twice daily)(group A)or same chemotherapy regimen but without concurrent celecoxib(group B).These combined chemotherapies were administered every 3 *** Chi-square test or Fisher's exact test were used to assess the difference in incidence of limiting hematological toxicites between *** 23 patients(group A:n=12;group B,n=11)received a total of 183 out of 184 planned treatment cycles;one(4%,1/23)of them omitted the fourth cycle of FEC owing to repeated incidences of febrile *** dose intensity(RDI)for FEC in group A(90%±11%)was higher than that in group B(80%±8%)while RDI for T was similar between group A(93%±8%)and group B(96%±9%).Of the first 91 treatment cycles of FEC,limiting hematological toxicity,severe neutropenia including febrile neutropenia,was significantly different between group A and B [(10.4%,5/48)vs.(32.6%,14/43),P=0.009].Other toxicities commonly observed in chemotherapy receiving patients were *** Neoadjuvant use of FEC followed by T with concurrent celecoxib appeared to be safe for treatment of operable invasive breast *** observed lower incidence of chemotherapy-induced neutropenia is possibly contributed by the administration of *** believe that further investigation might provide more evidence on the use of COX-2 inhibitors in breast cancer.

Application of single and combination therapy of clarithromycin and tamoxifen to suppress breast cancer cell proliferation and metabolism

Objective This study compares the anti-tumor effects of single and combination use of clarithromycin and tamoxifen on estrogen receptor (ER) positive breast cancer cell lines,BT-483 and MCF-7 as well as triple negative cell line,MBA-MD-231,which acts as a negative *** effect of solid breast tumor inhibition by clarithromycin is also *** BT-483,MCF-7 and MBA-MD-231 were cultured in 6-well plates in a 37 ℃ humidified incubator without CO2 for 24 h prior to the addition of the test *** test groups were clarithromycin (Group 1),tamoxifen (Group 2),clarithromycin and tamoxifen (Group 3),and control (Group 4).Group 3 was prepared in 1 to 1 ratio at a concentration of 1.5 mmol/L clarithromycin and 25 μmol/L *** the other hand,1 mm3 solid breast tumors were submerged into various groups as above for 24 *** the harvest day,the proliferation of cancer cells and solid breast tumor samples were measured by WST-1 proliferation reagent while ATP bioluminescence assay was employed to measure the metabolic rate of the three cell *** The proliferation of BT-483 and MCF-7 was suppressed most by combination use of clarithromycin and tamoxifen with statistical *** two drugs did not have an inhibitory effect on the hormonal negative cancer *** solid breast tumor samples,all the test groups showed reduced metabolic rate as compared with the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion Combination use of tamoxifen and clarithromycin are effective in suppressing cell proliferation and metabolism rate of breast cancer cells while single use of clarithromycin effectively inhibits the proliferation of solid breast tumor.

Effect of Tai Chi Chuan on serotonin and cortisol for monitoring stress and quality of life in post-treatment breast cancer patients
