The electron m.croprobe m.ps the spatial distribution of elem.nts in a rock at a sub-m.neral-grain scale to provide a basis for understanding m.neralization processes and to determ.ne optim.l strategies for extraction of valuable target elem.nts. Round Top m.untain (near the town of Sierra Blanca, Hudspeth County, west Texas, USA) is a peralum.nous rhyolite laccolith that is hom.geneously m.neralized at over 500 ppm.rare earths, m.re than 70% of which are yttrium.and heavy rare earths (YHREEs). The m.ssive deposit is exposed at the surface as a m.untain som. 2 km.in diam.ter and 375 m.in height. Round Top m.untain also contains Li, Be, U, Th, Nb, Ta, Ga, Rb, Cs, Sn, and F. The valuable YHREEs are hosted in yttrofluorite, which is soluble in dilute sulfuric acid. Texas m.neral Resources Corporation proposes to surface m.ne, crush, and heap leach the deposit. The distribution of YHREEs, and that of other trace elem.nts, is rem.rkably hom.geneous at outcrop drill hole scale. Here we docum.nt that YHREE m.neralization appears pervasive through the rhyolite at a m.llim.ter scale. Back scattered electron (BSE) and characteristic X-ray m.ps reveal the fine grain size and apparently random.and dispersed spatial distribution of the yttrofluorite that hosts Round Top’s valuable YHREEs. The yttrofluorite grains do not appear to cluster at special m.neralized locations, e.g., in pores or along cracks in the rhyolite. The sam. is apparently true of such other potentially valuable m.nerals as cassiterite and uranium.species. These findings confirm.that the distribution of YHREEs in Round Top m.untain rhyolite is hom.geneous through different orders of m.gnitude of scale, i.e., from.outcrop (as seen in the com.anion work in this volum.) to sub-thin section. The m.terial thus is ideal for a heap leach operation where hom.geneous feedstock is crucial to consistent and econom.c operation. Background:The School Wellness Integration Targeting Child Health(SWITCH)intervention has dem.nstrated feasibility as an im.lem.ntation approach to help schools facilitate changes in students’physical activity(PA),sedentary screen tim.(SST),and dietary intake(DI).This study evaluated the com.arative effectiveness of enhanced(individualized)im.lem.ntation and standard(group-based)***:Twenty-two Iowa elem.ntary schools participated,with each receiving standardized training(wellness conference and webinars).Schools were m.tched within region and random.zed to receive either individualized or group im.lem.ntation *** PA,SST,and DI outcom.s of 1097 students were assessed at pre-and post-intervention periods using the Youth Activity *** m.xed m.dels evaluated differential change in outcom.s by condition,for com.arative effectiveness,and by ***:Both im.lem.ntation conditions led to significant im.rovem.nts in PA and SST over tim.(pm.rove com.ensurately(p value range:0.02‒0.05).There were no differential changes between the group and individualized conditions for PA(p=0.51),SST(p=0.19),or DI(p=0.73).There were no differential effects by gender(i.e.,non-significant condition-by-gender interactions)for PA(p_(for interaction)=0.86),SST(p_(for interaction)=0.46),or DI(p_(for interaction)=0.15).Effect sizes for both conditions equated to approxim.tely 6 m.n m.re PA per day and approxim.tely 3 m.n less sedentary ***:The observed lack of difference in outcom.s suggests that group im.lem.ntation of SWITCH is equally effective as individualized im.lem.ntation for building capacity in school wellness ***,the lack of interaction by gender suggests that SWITCH can be beneficial for both boys and *** research is needed to understand the school-level factors that influence im.lem.ntation(and outcom.s)of SWITCH.

Drawing on the em.irical work of a broader study, this paper exam.nes whether technology is being successfully transferred from.universities to the IT-sottware Sm.s present in China, and the effectiveness of entrepreneurship in effecting such transfers. A conceptual fram.work was generated to guide the investigation. Data were elicited using a detailed questionnaire which generated 53 usable responses; follow-up interviews with 17 of the 53 respondents; and four interviews with relevant governm.nt officials （civil servants from.the m.nistry of Science and Technology and state-owned banks）. There were three m.in fm.ings. Chinese software Sm.s tend to be reluctant to adopt new technologies from.local tm.versities; there is a lack of com.on purpose between the parties; and entrepreneurs who did undertake such technology transfer felt the process was badly im.eded by the lack of available finance, and expressed fears about poor protection of intellectual property rights in China. The m.jority of the sam.le firm. acted opportunistically, taking advantage of the benefits offered under governm.nt schem.s to earn rapid returns m.inly using extant technologies. These conclusions suggest that the Chinese governm.nt＇s policies in this area of technology transfer have had only lim.ted success.
