Sub Farm Interface is the event builder of the ATLAS（A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS） Dataflow System. It receives event fragments from the Read Out System, builds full events and sends complete events to the Event Filter for high level event selection. This paper describes the implementation of the Sub Farm Interface. Furthermore, this paper introduces some issues on SFI（Sub Farm Interface） optimization and the monitoring service inside SFI.

The new plant breeding technologies(NPBTs)have recently emerged as powerful tools in the context of‘green’*** have wide potential compared to classical genetic engineering and they are attracting the interest of politicians,stakeholders and citizens due to the revolutionary impact they may have on *** and genome editing potentially allow to obtain pathogen-resistant plants or plants with enhanced qualitative traits by introducing or disrupting specific genes in shorter times compared to traditional breeding programs and by means of minimal modifications in the plant ***,the most important fruit crop in the world from an economical point of view,is a peculiar case for NPBTs because of the load of cultural aspects,varietal traditions and consumer demands,which hinder the use of classical breeding techniques and,furthermore,the application of genetic engineering to wine grape *** we explore the technical challenges which may hamper the application of cisgenesis and genome editing to this perennial plant,in particular focusing on the bottlenecks of the Agrobacterium-mediated gene *** addition,strategies to eliminate undesired sequences from the genome and to choose proper target sites are discussed in light of peculiar features of this *** is reported an update of the international legislative frameworks regulating NPBT products which shows conflicting positions and,in the case of the European Union,a prolonged lack of regulation.

According to its etymology,the English word“liver”is related to the verb“to live”,and indeed there are few domains of oncology research as lively as liver *** therapeutic landscape of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has been rapidly changing over the last years,after the successful introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)as standard of care for the treatment of unresectable or metastatic HCC(uHCC).Following more than a decade of tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs)as the only available treatment for advanced HCC,in 2020 the results of the IMbrave150 trial radically changed the therapeutic algorithm(1,2).The combination of the anti-programmed death ligand 1(PD-L1)monoclonal antibody(mAb)atezolizumab and the anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)mAb bevacizumab outperformed sorafenib in terms of overall survival(OS)and progression-free survival(PFS),meeting both its co-primary *** combination has been recognised as the new first-line standard of care by all major scientific societies,and it has been approved by regulatory agencies worldwide(3).

Prospective evaluation of a new device for the treatment of anal fistulas

AIM: To evaluate the safety of the implantation of a new device for the treatment of anal fistulas. The short-term clinical efficacy was also assessed. METHODS: This study took place at a tertiary care university hospital. Patients with a complex anal fistula of cryptoglandular origin were enrolled in the study and were treated with insertion of the new device. All patients were evaluated by clinical and physical examination, including an endoanal ultrasound at the baseline, and then at the 2 wk and 1, 2, 3 and 6-mo follow-up visits. RESULTS: Morbidity, continence status, and success rate were the main outcome measures. Ten patients underwent the placement of the new device. The fistulas were transphincteric in eight patients and extrasphincteric in the remaining two. The median duration of the surgical procedure was 34.5(range, 27-42) min. Neither intra- nor postoperative complications occurred, and all patients were discharged the day after the procedure. At the 6-mo follow-up evaluation, the final success rate was 70%. Three failures were registered: a device expulsion(on the 10 th postoperative day), the persistence of inflammatory tissue around the fistula tract(at the 2-mo follow up), and the persistence of serum discharge(at the 6-mo follow up). No patient experienced any change incontinence, as assessed by the Cleveland Clinic Fecal Incontinence score. CONCLUSION: The technical procedure is simple and has low risk of perioperative morbidity. The pre- and post-operative continence status did not change in any of the patients. The initial results at the 6-mo follow up seem to be promising. However, a longer follow-up period and a larger sample size are needed to confirm these preliminary results.

The gut microbiota and its genomic scaffold, exceeding the human one nearly 500 times, substantially affect human health and diseases. Host-microbe interactions, exerted through microbial biochemical and immunological activities, contain pathogen burden, control neurological and endocrine signalling, enterocyte wellness, energy biosynthesis, gut dysbiosis, complement gaps of host metabolic pathways, finally contributing to human physiology and disease within the gastrointestinal district and through gut-liver and gut-brain axis (1). Regardless substantial advances in correlating microbiota modulation and perturbation with various influencers, the specific impact of internal and external stimuli need to be definitely assigned though causality relationships beyond correlative measures. Host origin or genetic background, age, sanitation, delivery mode, breast-feeding and weaning, infections, diet, drugs, but also exercise, sleep, stress have been reviewed in a wide range of recent literature (2). All external (i.e., food, pathogens) and internal (i.e., microbiota) host modulating factors, both, can be conceptually synthetized by the term "exposome" which we are exposed to in the lifetime and which drives both individual enterophenotypes and disease phenotypes (3). Integrative descriptive and functional charts of microbiota allow the description of the microbiota-host Holobionts system, relationship that can be employed in understanding personalized physiology and nutrition, thus providing patient-tailored therapies (Figure 1). To investigate microbiota unbalance and passage from healthy to disease or unhealthy status, individual baseline compositions and variations within an individual's own range are required.

Hip arthroplasty can be considered one of the major successes of orthopedic surgery, with more than 350000 replacements performed every year in the United States with a constantly increasing rate. The main limitations to the lifespan of these devices are due to tribological aspects, in particular the wear of mating surfaces, which implies a loss of matter and modification of surface geometry. However, wear is a complex phenomenon, also involving lubrication and friction. The present paper deals with the tribological performance of hip implants and is organized in to three main sections. Firstly, the basic elements of tribology are presented, from contact mechanics of ball-in-socket joints to ultra high molecular weight polyethylene wear laws. Some fundamental equations are also reported, with the aim of providingthe reader with some simple tools for tribological investigations. In the second section, the focus moves to artificial hip joints, defining materials and geometrical properties and discussing their friction, lubrication and wear characteristics. In particular, the features of different couplings, from metal-on-plastic to metal-on-metal and ceramic-on-ceramic, are discussed as well as the role of the head radius and clearance. How friction, lubrication and wear are interconnected and most of all how they are specific for each loading and kinematic condition is highlighted. Thus, the significant differences in patients and their lifestyles account for the high dispersion of clinical data. Furthermore, such consideration has raised a new discussion on the most suitable in vitro tests for hip implants as simplified gait cycles can be too far from effective implant working conditions. In the third section, the trends of hip implants in the years from 2003 to 2012 provided by the National Joint Registry of England, Wales and Northern Ireland are summarized and commented on in a discussion.

Over the past years,important progresses have been made in the treatment of patients with colorectal liver metastases(CLM).Now,5-year overall survival rate may exceed 50%by using the combination of multimodality therapies among which modern systemic chemotherapy,with or without monoclonal antibodies,and hepatic resection are the cornerstones(1,2).In such multimodality,hepatic artery infusion(HAI)has been proposed since many years with the rationale of increasing the concentration of chemotherapy agents in the liver(3).However,HAI still remains infrequently used,in particular in the adjuvant setting mainly because of the requirement of a multidisciplinary team to manage therapy,and the more widespread use of systemic chemotherapy-in particular following the perioperative“sandwich”schema(4).

Over the past ten years,sorafenib,a multikinase inhibitor,has been the standard of care for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and wellpreserved liver ***,lenvatinib,a different multikinase inhibitor,was shown to be non-inferior to sorafenib,in terms of survival,while all other agents previously tested failed to prove non-inferiority(or superiority)when compared to ***,in the second-line setting,most investigational drugs failed to provide better survival outcomes than ***,in the last 2 years three positive phase III trials have been published in this *** RESORCE trial,a phase III study evaluating regorafenib in HCC patients who experienced disease progression after first-line treatment with sorafenib,showed better outcomes with regorafenib compared to *** recently,the phase III CELESTIAL trial demonstrated the superiority of cabozantinib,a multikinase inhibitor targeting vascular endothelial growth factor receptor,MET,and AXL,vs placebo in the second-and third-line setting in patients progressing on or intolerant to *** survival benefits of a sustained anti-angiogenic inhibition were demonstrated also with ramucirumab in the phase III REACH-2 trial in patients previously treated with sorafenib and who had high baseline alpha-fetoprotein ***,the adverse events reported in these trials were in line with the known safety profiles of the tested *** nearly a decade of a certain degree of stagnation,we are now witnessing a period of novel therapeutic advances with multikinase inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies that will likely change the treatment scenario of HCC.

Over the last few years, the importance of the resident intestinal microbiota in the pathogenesis of several gastrointestinal diseases has been largely investigated. Growing evidence suggest that microbiota can influence gastrointestinal motility. The current working hypothesis is that dysbiosis-driven mucosal alterations induce the production of several inflammatory/immune mediators which affect gut neuro-muscular functions. Besides these indirect mucosal-mediated effects, the present review highlights that recent evidence suggests that microbiota can directly affect enteric nerves and smooth muscle cells functions through its metabolic products or bacterial molecular components translocated from the intestinal lumen. Tolllike receptors, the bacterial recognition receptors, are expressed both on enteric nerves and smooth muscle and are emerging as potential mediators between microbiota and the enteric neuromuscular apparatus. Furthermore, the ongoing studies on probiotics support the hypothesis that the neuromuscular apparatus may represent a target of intervention, thus opening new physiopathological and therapeutic scenarios.
