Are There Schizophrenia Genetic Markers and Mutations? A Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses

Background: Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric disorder with a complex genetic factor determining its disease onset. Nevertheless, it is not clear in this mental disorder. Objective: To conduct a systematic review of articles regarding the genetic markers and mutations in schizophrenia. Methods: A systematic review of articles on genetic markers and mutations in schizophrenia, published from January 1, 2011, to September 7, 2015, on SCOPUS database was carried out. Search terms were “Genetic markers”, “Mutation”, and “Schizophrenia”. Results: Of the 527 retrieved studies, 31 met the eligibility criteria. Genetic polymorphism, Immune-associated genes, TCF4 and ZNF804A association with microRNA, Neuregulin gene, Chromosome 13q32 and 11p15.4, genes involved in glutamatergic via schizophrenia and brain structure, appeared to be associated with the origin of schizophrenia. Conclusion: Some studies show genes involved in several pathways leading to the disease pathogenesis such as that one related with the dopaminergic and immune system, or rare alleles. Some genes present no involvement in the etiology of this mental disorder. These findings clarify the genetic complexity of schizophrenia and affirm that together, the genes have an overall effect greater than the sum of the individual effect of each gene.

BACKGROUND Pes planus(flatfoot)and pes cavus(high arch foot)are common foot deformities,often requiring clinical and radiographic assessment for diagnosis and potential subsequent *** diagnostic methods,while effective,pose limitations such as cost,radiation exposure,and accessibility,particularly in underserved *** To develop deep learning algorithms that detect and classify such deformities using smartphone *** An algorithm that integrated a deep convolutional neural network(CNN)into a smartphone camera was utilized to detect pes planus and pes cavus *** case control study was conducted at a tertiary hospital with participants recruited from two orthopaedic foot and ankle *** CNN was trained and tested using photographs of the medial aspect of participants’feet,taken under standardized *** included subjects with standard foot alignment,pes planus,or pes cavus determined by an expert clinician using the foot posture *** model’s performance was assessed in comparison to clinical assessment and radiographic measurements,specifically lateral tarsal-first metatarsal angle and calcaneal inclination *** The CNN model demonstrated high accuracy in diagnosing both pes planus and pes cavus,with an optimized area under the curve of 0.90 for pes planus and 0.90 for pes *** showed a specificity and sensitivity of 84%and 87%for pes planus detection,respectively;and 97%and 70%for pes cavus,*** model’s prediction correlated moderately with radiographic lateral Meary’s angle measurements,indicating the model’s excellent reliability in assessing food arch deformity(Pvus deformities,which is especially beneficial for underserved communities and patients with pain generated by subtle foot ar

Recent research has demonstrated that critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COvID-19)show significant immune system *** to that,some nutrients that influence immunomodulation have been suggested as a form of treatment against the *** review collected the information on the impact of vitamins on the prognosis of COvID-19,with the intention of facilitating treatment and prevention of the disease risk status in *** collected information was obtained using the PubMed electronic database by searching for articles that relate COvID-19 and the mechanisms/effects of the nutrients:Proteins,glucose,lipids,vitamin B12,vitamin D,calcium,iron,copper,zinc,and magnesium,including prospective,retrospective,and support *** findings reveal an optimal response related mainly to omega-3,eicosapentaenoic acid,docosahexaenoic acid,calcium,and iron that might represent benefits in the treatment of critically ill ***,nutrient supplementation should be done with caution due to the limited availability of randomized controlled studies.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide and epidemiological projections predict growing cancer mortality rates in the next *** has a close relationship with the immune system and,although Th17 cells are known to play roles in the immune response against microorganisms and in autoimmunity,studies have emphasized their roles in cancer *** Th17 immune response profile is involved in several types of cancer including urogenital,respiratory,gastrointestinal,and skin *** type of immune response exerts pro and antitumor functions through several mechanisms,depending on the context of each tumor,including the protumor angiogenesis and exhaustion of T cells and the antitumor recruitment of T cells and neutrophils to the tumor *** other factors,the paradoxical behavior of Th17 cells in this setting has been attributed to its plasticity potential,which makes possible their conversion into other types of T cells such as Th17/Treg and Th17/Th1 ***(IL)-17 stands out among Th17-related cytokines since it modulates pathways and interacts with other cell profiles in the tumor microenvironment,which allow Th17 cells to prevail in ***,the IL-17 is able to mediate pro and antitumor processes that influence the development and progression of various cancers,being associated with variable clinical *** understanding of the relationship between the Th17 immune response and cancer as well as the singularities of carcinogenic processes in each type of tumor is crucial for the identification of new therapeutic targets.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COvID-19),a global emergency,is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus *** gold standard for its diagnosis is the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction,but considering the high number of infected people,the low availability of this diagnostic tool in some contexts,and the limitations of the test,other tools that aid in the identification of the disease are *** this scenario,imaging exams such as chest X-ray(CXR)and computed tomography(CT)have played important *** is useful for assessing disease progression because it allows the detection of extensive consolidations,besides being a fast and cheap *** the other hand,CT is more sensitive for detecting lung changes in the early stages of the disease and is also useful for assessing disease *** note,ground-glass opacities are the main COvID-19-related CT *** emission tomography combined with CT can be used to evaluate chronic and substantial damage to the lungs and other organs;however,it is an expensive *** ultrasound(LUS)has been shown to be a promising technique in that context as well,being useful in the screening and monitoring of patients,disease classification,and management related to mechanical ***,LUS is an inexpensive alternative available at the ***,magnetic resonance imaging,although not usually requested,allows the detection of pulmonary,cardiovascular,and neurological abnormalities associated with ***,it is important to consider the challenges faced in the radiology field in the adoption of control measures to prevent infection and in the follow-up of post-COvID-19 patients.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-Covv-2)infection is associated with a hyperinflammatory state and lymphocytopenia,a hallmark that appears as both signature and prognosis of disease severity *** cytokine storm and a sustained inflammatory state are commonly associated with immune cell depletion,it is still unclear whether direct SARS-Cov-2 infection of immune cells could also play a role in this scenario by harboring viral *** found that monocytes,as well as both B and T lymphocytes,were susceptible to SARS-Cov-2 infection in vitro,accumulating double-stranded RNA consistent with viral RNA replication and ultimately leading to expressive T cell *** addition,flow cytometry and immunofluorescence analysis revealed that SARS-Cov-2 was frequently detected in monocytes and B lymphocytes from coronavirus disease 2019(CovID-19)*** rates of SARS-Cov-2-infected monocytes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells from CovID-19 patients increased over time from symptom onset,with SARS-Cov-2-positive monocytes,B cells,and CD4+T lymphocytes also detected in postmortem lung *** results indicated that SARS-Cov-2 infection of blood-circulating leukocytes in covID-19 patients might have important implications for disease pathogenesis and progression,immune dysfunction,and virus spread within the host.
