Fruit Yield and Quality, and Irrigation Water Use Efficiency of Summer Squash Drip-Irrigated with Different Irrigation Quantities in a Semi-Arid Agricultural Area

Fruit yield, yield components, fruit mineral content, total phenolic content, antioxidant activity and irrigation water use efifciency （IWUE） of summer squash responses to different irrigation quantities were evaluated with a ifeld study. Irrigations were done when the total evaporated water from a Class A pan was about 30 mm. Different irrigation quantities were adjusted using three different plant-pan coefifcients （Kcp, 100% （Kcp1）, 85% （Kcp2） and 70% （Kcp3））. Results indicated that lower irrigation quantities provided statistically lower yield and yield components. The highest seasonal fruit yield （80.0 t ha-1） was determined in the Kcp1 treatment, which applied the highest volume of irrigation water （452.9 mm）. The highest early fruit yield, average fruit weight and fruit diameter, length and number per plant were also determined in the Kcp1 treatment, with values of 7.25 t ha-1, 264.1 g, 5.49 cm, 19.95 cm and 10.92, respectively. Although the IWUE value was the highest in the Kcp1 treatment （176.6 kg ha-1 mm-1）, it was statistically similar to the value for Kcp3 treatment （157.1 kg ha-1 mm-1）. Total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of fruits was higher in the Kcp1 （44.27 μg gallic acid equivalents （GAE） mg-1 fresh sample） and in the Kcp2 （84.75%） treatments, respectively. major （na, n, P, K, Ca, mg and S） and trace （Fe, Cu, mn, Zn and B） mineral contents of squash fruits were the highest in the Kcp2 treatment, with the exception of P, Ca and Cu. mineral contents and total phenolic content were signiifcantly affected by irrigation quantities, but antioxidant activity was not affected. It can be concluded that the Kcp1 treatment was the most suitable for achieving higher yield and IWUE. However, the Kcp2 treatment will be the most suitable due to the high fruit quality and relatively high yield in water shortage conditions.

The two-electron reduction of molecular oxygen represents an effective strategy to enable the green, mild and on-demand synthesis of hydrogen peroxide. Its practical viability, however, hinges on the development of advanced electrocatalysts, preferably composed of non-precious elements, to selectively expedite this reaction, particularly in acidic medium. Our study here introduces 2H-moTe;for the first time as the efficient non-precious-metal-based electrocatalyst for the electrochemical production of hydrogen peroxide in acids. We show that exfoliated 2H-moTe;nanoflakes have high activity(onset overpotential ～140 mV and large mass activity of 27 A g;at 0.4 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode), great selectivity（H;O;percentage up to 93%） and decent stability in 0.5 m H;SO;. Theoretical simulations evidence that the high activity and selectivity of 2H-moTe;arise from the proper binding energies of HOO;and O;at its zigzag edges that jointly favor the two-electron reduction instead of the four-electron reduction of molecular oxygen.

Photochemical Decomposition of Pesticide Chemicals in Aerosol Particles and Thin Films Relevant to Environmental Conditions

Contamination of the environment by pesticides is the inevitable aftermath of plant protection, and a substantial portion of pesticide pollutants exists in the form of aerosol particles levitated in the air and deposited on plants, and as the pesticide residues （thin films） on the surface of plant leaves. The sunlight photolysis could be the resource for the accelerated photochemical decomposition of pesticide compounds to minimize the long-term environmental contamination. The rates of photochemical decomposition of pesticide chemicals propiconazole （commercial formulation Tilt） and haloxyfop-ethoxyethyl （Zellek） were measured in particles of 0.12-1.3 μm in diameter and in films 0.04-0.2 μm thick. A specific polyaromatic sensitizer Shirvanol was used to induce accelerated decomposition of the above pesticide particulates under both the solar radiation and the artificial UV light. It was established that propiconazole decomposes by the sensitized photo-oxidation only, but haloxyfop-ethoxyethyl reacts in both the oxygen （air） and oxygen-free mediums via both the direct and sensitized reactions. The photochemical mechanisms are hypothesized and argued for the oxidative and non-oxidative decompositions. The haloxyfop-ethoxyethyl （Zellek） residues lbrmed on foliage upon pesticide treatments of agricultural fields would essentially decompose under sunlight via a direct photoreaction in 4-6 weeks, but the propiconazole （Tilt） contaminants probably need more time.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of yam flour substitution (Dioscorea alata L.) and moringa powder in wheat bread on glycemic response. Glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) of pieces of bread were determined. A mixture plan design was used to determine the optimal formulation of bread made of yam flour, wheat flour and moringa powder. The mixture of 79.4% soft wheat flour, 20% yam flour and 0.6% moringa leaves powder has a good potential in bread preparation and was used in this study. 100% wheat bread was used as control. Postprandial blood glucose response (glycemic response) was evaluated with the glucose used as a reference food. Blood glucose responses were measured at different intervals for 2 hours. The results indicated that composite bread had low GI and GL values than wheat bread. Values are GI = 80 and GL = 61.2 for wheat bread and GI = 37.78 and GL = 29.65 for the composite bread. This study demonstrated that the inclusion of yam flour of moringa leaves powder in bread production might not pose a threat to blood glucose response compared to wheat bread. These pieces of bread could be included easily in diabetics’ and non-diabetics diet.

在内蒙古达尔罕茂明安联合旗北部巴特敖包地区发现了志留纪的海岸带及其底栖无脊椎动物化石(层孔虫、日射与床板珊瑚等), 证实当时该地发育一个位于中朝古板块北缘大陆棚上的小海岛, 将其命名为巴特岛. 该岛的基部由奥陶纪火成岩组成, 长、短轴分别为610和200 m, 现今呈北东-南西向延伸. 志留纪罗德洛世(距今约420 ma)的地层围绕该岛分布, 产状向四周倾伏. 巴特岛的南缘(背风)发育皮壳状生物, 栖息在火成岩顶面并被灰泥掩埋; 北缘(迎风)发育由火成岩砾石组成的底砾岩. 这是我国迄今为止首次记载的古生代海岛, 所含的岩岸层孔虫化石也为全球首次报道.

In the present work, titanium alloy with a composition of Ti-6.5Al-3mo-1.9nb-2.2Sn-2.2Zr-1.5Cr (TC21) was subjected to plastic deformation and aging processes. A Plastic deformation at room temperature with 2%, 3% and 4% stroke strain was applied on the studied samples. Then, the samples aged at 575°C for 4 hr. By applying different plastic deformation ratios, the structure revealed an elongated and thin m>βm>-phase embedded in an m>αm>-phase. Secondary m>αm>-platelets were precipitated in the residual m>βm>-phase. maximum hardness (HV440) was obtained for 4% deformed + aged samples. minimum hardness (HV320) was recorded for the as-cast samples without deformation. The highest ultimate tensile strength of 1311 mPa was obtained for 4% deformed + aged samples due to presence of high amount of dislocation density as well as precipitation of secondary m>αm>-platelets in the residual m>βm>-phase. The lowest ultimate tensile strength of 1020 mPa was reported for as-cast samples. maximum elongation of 14% was registered for 4% deformed + aged samples and minimum one of 3% was obtained for as-cast samples. Hence, strain hardening + aging can enhance considerably the elongation of TC21 Ti-alloy up to 366% and 133% in case of applying 4% deformation + aged compared to as-cast and aged samples without applying plastic deformation, respectively.

AIm:To establish the roles of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)/CD14/toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-mediated inflammation in a rat model of human necrotizing enterocolitis (nEC).mETHODS: Six pairs of intestinal samples from human nEC were collected before and after recovery for histological and molecular analysis of inflammatory cytokines and signaling components. In the rat nEC model, we isolated 10-cm jejunum segments and divided them into six groups (n=6) for sham operation, treatment with LPS, bowel distension, combined bowel distension and LPS stimulation, and two therapeutic groups. The potential eff icacy of a recombinant CD18 peptide and a monoclonal CD14 antibody was evaluated in the latter two groups. The serum and tissue levels of several inflammatory mediators were quantified by real-time polymerase chain reaction, ELISA and ***: Human acute phase nEC tissues displayed significant increases (Pn levels of TLR4, CD14, myeloid differentiation protein (mD)-2, tumor necrosis factor (TnF)-α and nuclear factor-κB when compared to those after recovery. The histological and inflammatory picture of human nEC was reproduced in rats that were treated with combined bowel distension and LPS, but not in the sham-operated and other control rats. Serum levels of interleukin-6 and TnF-α were also elevated. The nEC pathology was attenuated by treating the nEC rats with a monoclonal CD14 antibody or an LPS-neutralizing ***:LPS and distension are required to produce the histological and inflammatory features of nEC. A potential treatment option is blocking LPS activation and leukocyte infi ltration.

We fabricated a silver ion emitter based on the solid state electrolyte film of RbAg4 I5 prepared by pulsed laser deposition. The RbAg4 I5 target for PLD process was mechano-chemically synthesized by high-energy ball milling in Ar atmosphere using β-AgI and RbI as raw materials. The ion-conducting properties of RbAg4 I5 were studied by alternating current(AC) impedance spectroscopy and the ionic conductivity at room temperature was estimated 0.21 S/m. The structure, morphology, and elemental composition of the RbAg4 I5 film were investigated. The Ag+ ion-conducting property of the prepared superioni-conductor film was exploited for ion–beam generation. The temperature and accelerating voltage dependences of the ion current were studied. Few nA current was obtained at the temperature of 196?C and the accelerating voltage of 10 kV.
