Corrosion and wear properties of in situ(TiB+TiC)/TA15 composites with a high volume percentage of reinforcement

The in situ(TiC+TiB)/TA15 composites with different volume percentages of reinforcement(10%,15%,20%and 25%)were prepared by water-cooled copper crucible vacuum suspension melting *** structures and compositions of the TA15 alloy and its composites were analyzed by XRD and EDS,and their electrochemical corrosion behaviors in the 3.5%NaCl solution were *** wear testing was conducted using a reciprocating ball-on-disc wear tester under a 10 N *** show that the in situ fibrous TiB phase and the granular TiC phase are uniformly distributed on the composite *** microhardness can reach up to 531 HV as 25vol.%TiC+TiB reinforcement is *** with the TA15 alloy,the volume wear rate decreases from(2.21±0.07)×10^(-4)to(1.75±0.07)×10^(-4)mm^(3)·N^(-1)·m^(-1)by adding 15vol.%TiC+TiB reinforcement,and the wear mechanism is adhesive *** the volume percentage of the reinforcement phase reaches 25%,the volume wear rate increases from(1.75±0.07)×10^(-4)to(2.41±0.07)×10^(-4)mm^(3)·N^(-1)·m^(-1),and the wear mechanism changes into abrasive *** volume loss resulted by the interaction between corrosion and wear accounts for more than 27%of the total wear *** volume loss due to wear-induced corrosion changes from 1.94%to 4.06%with different additions of *** volume loss caused by corrosion-induced wear initially increases from 24.08%to 26.90%as the reinforcement increases from 0 to 15%due to the increase of corrosion potential,and then decreases from 26.90%to 25.68%as the reinforcement increases from 15%to 25%due to the peeling of TiC phase.

Interactions between metal ions and the biopolymer in activated sludge： quantification and effects of system pH value

The quantification and effects of system pH value on the interactions between Pb（II） and the biopolymer in activated sludge were investigated. The biopolymer had two protein-like fluorescence peaks （Ex/Em = 280 nm1326-338 nm for peak A; Ex/Em = 220-230 nm/324-338 nm for peak B）. The fluorescence intensities of peak B were higher than those of peak A. The fluorophores of both peaks could be largely quenched by Pb（ll）, and the quencher dose for peak B was about half of that for peak A. The modified Stern-Volmer equation well depicted the fluorescence quenching titration. The quenching constant （Ka） values for both peaks decreased with rising system pH value, and then sharply decreased under alkaline conditions. It could be attributed to that the alkaline conditions caused the reduction of available Pb（II） due to the occurrence of Pb（OH）2 sediments. The Ka values of peak B were bigger than those for peak A at the same system pH values. Accordingly, the aromatic proteins （peak B） played a key role in the interactions between metal ions and the biopolymer.

Facile synthesis of hollow Cu_(3)P for sodium-ion batteries anode

Combining metal to form metal phosphide is a promising strategy to address the fast capacity decay of P rooted from its low electronic conductivity and large volume changes upon cycling. Cu_(3)P, which possesses a high theoretical gravimetric and volumetric capacity of 363 m Ahág^(-1) and 1028 AháL^(-1) and reasonable volume expansion of 156% during sodiation, was investigated as anode material in SIBs. Hollow-structured Cu_(3)P electrode delivers an initial de-sodiation capacity of * 159.0 m Ahág^(-1) with high capacity retention of ~85.1% over 50 cycles at 0.2 C rate and exhibits good rate performance,retaining 70% of the capacity when the current density increases from 0.2 C to 1.6 C. A 3 V-class full cell consisting of P2-Na_(2/3) Ni_(1/3) Mn_(1/2) Ti_(1/6)O_(2) cathode and Cu_(3)P anode was also assembled, which could achieve an energy density of ~189.3 Whákg^(-1)(based on the mass of both electrode materials) and average discharge voltage of~2.91 V when cycled in 1.0-4.3 V at 0.1C.

Analysis on velocity distribution and displacement along the profile of a slope using both empirical and analytical methods

Assessing the slope deformation is significant for landslide prediction. Many researchers have studied the slope displacement based on field data from the inclinometer in combination with complicated numerical analysis. They found that there was a shear zone above the slip surface, and they usually focused on the distribution of velocity and displacement within the shear zone. In this paper,two simple methods are proposed to analyze the distribution of displacement and velocity along the whole profile of a slope from the slip surface to the slope surface during slow movement. In the empirical method, the slope soil above the shear zone is assumed as a rigid body. Dual or triple piecewise fitting functions are empirically proposed for the distribution of velocity along the profile of a slope. In the analytical method, the slope soil is not assumed as a rigid body but as a deformable material. Continuous functions of the velocity and displacement along the profile of a slope are directly obtained by solving the Newton's equation of motion associated with the Bingham model. Using the two proposed methods respectively, the displacement and velocity along the slope profiles of three slopes are determined. A reasonable agreement between the measured data and the calculated results of the two proposed methods has been reached. In comparison with the empirical method, the analytical method would be more beneficial for slope deformation analysis in slope engineering, because the parameters are material constants in the analytical solution independent of time t, and the nonlinear viscosity of the soil can be considered.

Knowing the conserved quantities that a galaxy’s stellar orbits conform to is important in helping us understand the stellar distribution and structures within the *** integrals of motion and resonances are particularly important,non-isolating integrals less *** compare the behavior and results of two methods for counting the number of conserved quantities,one based on the correlation integral approach and the other a more recent method using machine *** methods use stellar orbit trajectories in phase space as their only input,and we create such trajectories from theoretical spherical,axisymmetric,and triaxial model *** orbits have known isolating integrals and *** find that neither method is fully effective in recovering the numbers of these quantities,nor in determining the number of non-isolating *** a computer performance perspective,we find the correlation integral approach to be the *** the algebraic formulae of(multiple)conserved quantities from the trajectories has not been possible due to the lack of an appropriate symbolic regression *** the shortcomings we have noted,it may be that the methods are usable as part of a trajectory analysis tool kit.

The effects of prey lipid on female mating and reproduction of a wolf spider

As predators,the macronutrients spiders extract from their prey play important roles in their mating and *** studies of macronutrients on spider mating and reproduction focus on protein,the potential impact of prey lipid content on spider mating and reproduction remains largely ***,we tested the influence of prey varying in lipid content on female mating,sexual cannibalism,reproduction,and offspring fitness in the wolf spider Pardosa *** acquired 2 groups of fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster that differed significantly in lipid but not protein content by supplementing cultural media with a high or low dose of sucrose on which the fruit flies were reared(HL:high lipid and LL:low lipid).Subadult(i.e.,1 molt before adult)female spiders that fed HL flies matured with significantly higher lipid content than those fed LL *** found that the mated females fed with HL flies significantly shortened pre-oviposition time and resulted in a significantly higher ***,there was no significant difference in female spiders varying in lipid content on other behaviors and traits,including the latency to courtship,courtship duration,mating,copulation duration,sexual cannibalism,offspring body size,and ***,our results suggest that the lipid content of prey may be a limiting factor for female reproduction,but not for other behavioral traits in the wolf spiders ***.

Effects of Plant Density on Yield and Canopy Micro Environment in Hybrid Cotton

A rational plant population is an important attribute to high yield of cotton, because it can provide a beneficial micro environment within the canopy for plant growth and development as well as yield formation. A 2-yr field experiment was conducted to determine the optimal plant density based on cotton yield in relation to the canopy micro environment （canopy temperature, relative humidity and light transmittance）. Six plant densities （1.2-5.7 plants m^-2） were arranged with a completely randomized block design. The highest cotton yield （1 507 kg ha^-1） was obtained at 3.0 plants m^-2 due to more bolls per unit ground area （79 bolls m2）, while the lowest yield （1 091 kg ha1） was obtained at 1.2 plants m^-2. Under the moderate plant density （3.0 plants m^-2）, there was a lower mean daily temperature （MDT, 27. 1℃） attributing to medium daily minimum temperature （Train, 21.9℃） and the lowest daily maximum temperature （Tmax, 35.8℃）, a moderate mean canopy light transmittance of 0.51, and lower mean daily relative humidity （MRH） of 79.7% from June to October. The results suggest that 3.0 plants m^-2 would be the optimal plant density because it provides a better canopy micro environment.

Photoassociation(PA)of cold atoms is a key tool widely used for accurate determination of long-range molecular potentials,measurement and tuning of interatomic interactions,as well as creation of desired cold *** report the observation of PA spectra of ultracold ytterbium(Yb)atoms at the ^(1)S_(0)–^(3)P_(1) inter-combination line by detecting the resonant loss of atoms trapped in a crossed far-off-resonance trap(crossed-FORT).Eight vibrational levels in the ^(1)0^(+)_(u) molecular state are observed for PA laser detunings up to 1 GHz with respect to the atomic *** photoassociation resonances have a Lorentzian shape and sub-MHz linewidths due to the ultra low temperature of the atoms,and the resonance positions agree well with that predicted by the semiclassical formula.
