Ants show collective and individual behavioral flexibility in their response to immediate context,choosing for example between different foraging *** Pachycondyla striata,workers can forage solitarily or recruit and guide nestmates to larger food sources through tandem *** considered more ancestral and less efficient than pheromone trail-laying,this strategy is common especially in species with small colony *** is not known is how the decision to recruit or follow varies according to the immediate *** is,how fine adjustments in information transfer affect immediate foraging decisions at the colony ***,we studied individually marked workers and evaluated their foraging decisions when food items varied in nature(protein versus carbohydrate),size,and distance from the nest at different temperatures and humidity *** results show that tandem run leaders and potential followers adjust their behavior according to a combination of external *** 84.2%of trips were solitary,most ants(81%)performed at least 1 tandem ***,tandem runs were more frequent for nearby resources and at higher relative ***,when food items were located far away,tandem runs were more successful when heading to protein sources(75%)compared with carbohydrate sources(42%).Our results suggest that the social information transfer between leaders and followers conveys more information than previously thought,and also relies on their experience and motivation.

Intake,digestibility and nitrogen utilization in cattle fed tropical forage and supplemented with protein in the rumen,abomasum,or both

Background： There is little information in the tropics with regard the comparative understanding of how an increased nitrogen supply in the rumen or in the intestines affects efficiency of nitrogen utilization in cattle. This study evaluated the effects of supplementation with nitrogenous compounds in the rumen, abomasum, or both on intake, digestibility and the characteristics of nitrogen utilization in cattle fed tropical forage. Four rumen- and abomasum-fistulated Nellore bulls （227 ± 11 kg） were used. Four treatments were evaluated： control, ruminal supplementation （230 g/d of supplemental protein in the rumen）, abomasal supplementation （230 g/d of supplemental protein in the abomasum）, and ruminal and abomasal supplementation （115 g/d protein in both the rumen and the abomasum）. The basal forage diet consisted of Tifton 85 hay with a crude protein （CP） level of 78.4 g/kg dry matter. Casein was used as a supplement. The experiment was conducted using a 4 x 4 Latin square. Results： There were no differences between the treatments （P 〉 0.10） with regard to forage intake. The intake and tota digestibility of CP increased （P 〈 0.01） with supplementation. The nitrogen balance in the body increased （P 〈 0.01） and muscle protein mobilization decreased （P 〈 0.01） with supplementation, regardless of the supplementation site. The efficiency of nitrogen utilization did not differ among the treatments （P 〉 0.10）. Conclusions： The supplementation of cattle fed tropical forage with protein in the rumen, abomasum, or both similarly increased the nitrogen accretion in animal, which reflects improvements on nitrogen status in animal body.

This work introduces a methodology to estimate coffee prices based on the use of Extreme Learning *** process is initiated by identifying the presence of nonstationary components,like seasonality and *** components are withdrawn if they are ***,the temporal lags are selected based on the response of the Partial Autocorre-lation Function *** predictors,we address the following models:Exponential Smooth-ing(ES),Autoregressive(AR)and Autoregressive Integrated and Moving Average(ARIMA)models,Multilayer Perceptron(MLP)and Extreme Learning Machines(ELMs)neural *** computational results based on three error metrics and two coffee types(Ara-bica and Robusta)showed that the neural networks,especially the ELM,can reach higher performance levels than the other *** methodology,which presents preprocess-ing stages,lag selection,and use of ELM,is a novelty that contributes to the coffee prices forecasting field.

Discarded Carbon-Zinc Batteries as Source of an Efficient Heterogeneous Fenton-Like Catalyst Employed to Degrade Organic Molecules in an Aqueous Medium

The present work evaluates the feasibility of using the raw material collected from discarded zinc-carbon batteries as heterogeneous catalyst to degrade the dye Indigo Carmine in an aqueous solution. Besides the evident environmental application, this work also presents an economic alternative for the production of new catalysts used to remediate polluted waters. For this, discarded carbon-zinc batteries were gathered, disassembled and their anodic paste collected. After acidic treatment and calcination at 500°C, characterization measurements, i.e. flame atomic absorption spectroscopy (FAAS), nitrogen sorption, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), revealed that the so-obtained material consisted mainly of ZnMn2O4. This material acts as a heterogeneous catalyst in a Fenton-like process that degrades the dye Indigo Carmine in water. That is probably due to the presence of Mn(III) (manganese in the +3 oxidation state) in this material that triggers the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to yield hydroxyl radicals (HO·). Moreover, direct infusion electrospray ionization coupled to high resolution mass spectrometry (ESI-HRMS) was employed to characterize the main by-products resulting from such degradation process. These initial results thus indicate that raw materials from waste batteries can therefore be potentially employed as efficient Fenton-like catalysts to degrade organic pollutants in an aqueous solution.

Performance and Ruminal Characteristics of Beef Cattle Fed Four Different Hybrids Sorghum Silages

This study was conducted to evaluate the intake, total and partial digestibility of nutrient, ruminal pH and ammonia concentration, microbial protein synthesis and performance in crossbred Holstein × Zebu cattle fed four different hybrids sorghum silages （1F305, XBF60329, BRS610, Volumax）. In Experiment 1, four rumen and abomasum fistulated steers, 400 ± 80 kg, distributed in a 4 × 4 Latin Square, were used. In Experiment 2, 28 crossbred Holstein × Zebu steers, 350 ± 50 kg, distributed in a randomized block design with four treatments and seven replicates, were used. In Experiment 1, it was observed that nutrient intake, as well as total, ruminal and intestinal digestibility of nutrient, were not affected （P 〉 0.05） by diets, except for total apparent digestibility of neutral detergent fiber （NDFap）, which was lower for the BRS610 hybrid. There was lower NDFap ingestion in animals that received a diet containing silage from the BRS610 hybrid, however, the lowest intake non-fibrous carbohydrates （NFC） was observed for the diet containing silage from the Volumax hybrid. In Experiment 2, nutrient intake were not affected by the diets （P 〉 0.05）, whereas, NDFap intake was lesser for hybrid BRS610. It was found that daily weight gain and feed conversion were not affected by different silages diets. Therefore, it may be concluded that the diets used were nutritionally equivalent, as they promoted similar animal performance without affecting ruminal parameters.

Gender Differences in Comorbidities and Sleep Patterns of Obese Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea

Objective: The aim of the study was to compare the comorbidities and sleep patterns most commonly associated with each gender in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of obese individuals with OSA.?The polysomnographies were carried out in a sleep laboratory environment, using a 15-channel polysomnography setup. Airflow was measured using a nasal pressure cannula/thermistor combination. A standard handbook was used for interpretation of PSG findings. Results: A total of 284 subjects were included in the study, (147 females). The mean age, body mass index and neck circumference were similar between females and males (p?= 0.9579,?p??p?< 0.0001, respectively). On polysomnography, females exhibited longer latency to REM sleep (146.50 ± 85.93 vs. 122.3 ± 68.28,?p?= 0.0210) and a higher percentage of?delta sleep (10.09 ± 7.48 vs. 7.55 ± 6.57,?p?= 0.0037);males had more frequent microarousals (38.37?± 27.44 vs. 28.07 ± 21.23,?p?= 0.0017) and a higher AHI score (30.56 ± 27.52 vs. 17.31 ± 21.23,?p?< 0.0001). The comorbidities most commonly associated with female gender were diabetes (29% vs. 9.49%,?p?= 0.0132), hypothyroidism (20% vs. 2.19%,?p?< 0.0001), and depression (81.63% vs. 51.22%,?p?< 0.0001). Male gender was associated with myocardial infarction (6.57% vs. 1.38%,?p?= 0.0245) and alcohol intake (33.88% vs. 11.34%,?p?< 0.0001). Obese males with OSA have a larger?neck circumference and higher AHI and arousal indices than females. Conclusions: There are genderdifferences both in the sleep patterns and in the comorbidities of patients with OSA. Men had a larger neck circumference, higher apnea and sleep fragmentation scores, were more likely to consume alcohol, and were more likely to have a history of myocardial infarction than women.

Soil salinity is among the abiotic stressors that threaten agriculture the most,and purslane(Portulaca oleracea L.)is a dicot species adapted to inland salt desert and saline habitats that hyper accumulates salt and has high phytoremediation *** researchers consider purslane a suitable model species to study the mechanisms of plant tolerance to drought and salt ***,a robust salinity stress protocol was developed and used to characterize the morphophysiological responses of young purslane plants to salinity stress;then,leaf tissue underwent characterization by distinct omics platforms to gain further insights into its response to very high salinity *** salinity stress protocol did generate different levels of stress by gradients of electrical conductivity at field capacity and water potential in the saturation extract of the substrate,and the morphological parameters indicated three distinct stress *** expected from a halophyte species,these plants remained alive under very high levels of salinity stress,showing salt crystal-like structures constituted mainly by Na^(+),Cl^(−),and K^(+)on and around closed stomata.A comprehensive and large-scale metabolome and transcriptome single and integrated analyses were then employed using leaf *** multi-omics integration(MOI)system analysis led to a data-set of 51 metabolic pathways with at least one enzyme and one metabolite differentially expressed due to salinity *** data sets(of genes and metabolites)are valuable for future studies aimed to deepen our knowledge on the mechanisms behind the high tolerance of this species to salinity *** conclusion,besides showing that this species applies salt exclusion already in young plants to support very high levels of salinity stress,the initial analysis of metabolites and transcripts data sets already give some insights into other salt tolerance mechanisms used by this species to support high levels of salinity stress.

HPV Vaccine: Integrative Review of National and International Guidelines

HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is an adenovirus of the Papillomaviridae family with approximately 200 subtypes (subdivided into low and high oncogenic risk groups), responsible for almost 99% of cervical cancers. Worldwide, there are more than 570,000 new cases and more than 311,000 women die each year from cervical cancer;for Brazil, the estimate is of more than 16,000 new cases per year. It is known that cervical cancer is one of the most easily preventable forms of cancer, as there is a highly effective vaccine against HPV. However, the morbidity and mortality rates correlated with human papillomavirus are still concerning, especially in less developed countries. In 2020, the WHO (World Health Organization) presented three goals to achieve by 2030 the worldwide extermination of cervical cancer;among these goals is vaccination. Is the world preparing for this battle? The present work is an integrative review, comparing national and international guidelines for HPV vaccination published in the last five years in the consulted databases, using the descriptors “cervical cancer”, “prevention” and “guideline” and the boolean operator “and”, from which nine articles were selected. The study made it possible to compare international and national guidelines for vaccination against HPV, showing that developed countries implemented the HPV vaccine longer ago and follow the WHO recommendations more rigorously and effectively than underdeveloped or developing countries. Adopting a single dose as a strategy, as suggested by the WHO in April 2022, could be an important step towards increasing coverage and providing protection for a greater number of girls who do not have access to HPV immunization.

Advanced Imaging Techniques in Lhermitte-Duclos Disease (LDD): A Case Report and Brief Literature Review

Lhermitte-Duclos disease (LDD), also called dysplastic gangliocytoma of the cerebellum, is a rare condition described in 1920. It represents a disorganization of cerebellar architecture with overgrowth of cerebellar ganglion cells which replace granular cells and Purkinje cells. In this report we present the case of a 62-year-old male affected by this disease, as well as literature review of the clinical, morphological and functional radiological findings.
