Hepatoprotective effect of date palm fruit extract against doxorubicin intoxication in Wistar rats:In vivo and in silico studies

Objective:To investigate the prophylactic efficacy of date palm fruit extract against doxorubicin-induced hepatotoxicity in Wistar albino ***:The rats were equally and randomly assigned to 6 groups:group 1(untreated control),group 2 and 3 given daily oral administration of prophylactic aqueous extract of date palm fruit at 0.75 and 1.5 mg/kg body weight,respectively,and group 4,5 and 6 intraperitoneally injected with doxorubicin at 15 mg/kg on day *** in group 5 and 6 received daily oral administration of aqueous extract of date palm fruit at 0.75 and 1.5 mg/kg body weight,respectively,for 30 *** phytochemicals identified by GC-Ms analysis were analyzed using in silico *** enzymes,liver enzymatic,biochemical parameters and histopathological analysis were determined to evaluate hepatoprotective activity of date ***:Aqueous extract of date palm fruit significantly mitigated doxorubicin-induced changes in activities of liver enzymes,reduced reactive oxygen species levels,and suppressed lipid peroxidation and DNA ***,aqueous extract of date palm fruit reduced doxorubicin-induced hepatic *** docking studies showed that most compounds of aqueous extract of date palm fruit identified via GC-Ms had good interaction with proteins of human pregnane X receptor,oxygenase-1,and ***:The aqueous extract of date palm fruit mitigates doxorubicin-mediated DNA damage and hepatotoxicity,and restores normal liver function and may be a promising agent against the deleterious effects of doxorubicin.

Effects of water stress on growth phenology photosynthesis and leaf water potential in stipagrostis ciliata(Desf.)De Winter in North Africa

stipagrostis ciliata(Desf.)De Winter is a pastoral C4 grass grown in arid *** research work focused on assessing the growth of *** accessions derived from two different climate regions(a wet arid region in the Bou Hedma National Park in the central and southern part of Tunisia(coded as WA),and a dry arid region from the Matmata Mountain in the south of Tunisia(coded as DA))under water stress ***,the study aimed to investigate the phenological and physiological responses of potted *** seedlings under different water treatments:T_(1)(200 mm/a),T_(2)(150 mm/a),T_(3)(100 mm/a)and T_(4)(50 mm/a).Growth phenology,net photosynthesis(Pn),stomatal conductance(gs),midday leaf water potential(Ψmd),predawn leaf water potential(Ψpd),soil water content(sWC)and soil water potential(Ψs)were observed during the water stress cycle(from December 2016 to November 2017).The obtained results showed that the highest growth potential of the two accessions(WA and DA)was recorded under treatment T_(1).The two accessions responded differently and significantly to water *** parameters,such as Pn and gs,decreased sharply under treatments T_(2),T_(3)and T_(4)compared to treatment T_(1).The higher water stress increased the R/s ratio(the ratio of root dry biomass to shoot dry biomass),with values of 1.29 and 2.74 under treatment T_(4)for accessions WA and DA,*** component analysis(PCA)was applied,and the separation of *** accessions on the first two axes of PCA(PC1 and PC2)suggested that accession DA was detected in the negative extremity of PC1 and PC2 under treatments T_(1)and T_(2).This accession was characterized by a high number of *** treatments T_(3)and T_(4),both accessions were detected in the negative extremity of PC1 and *** were characterized by a high root dry ***,*** accessions responded to water stress by displaying significant changes in their *** WA

Effects of temperature and water limitation on the germination of stipagrostis ciliata seeds collected from sidi Bouzid Governorate in Central Tunisia

Most ecological studies in North Africa reveal a process of continuous degradation of rangeland ecosystems as a result of overgrazing. This degradation appears across the decreasing of perennial grass diversity. Indeed, the majority of steppe ecosystems are characterized by a low density of perennial grass species at present. This study evaluated the effects of temperature and water limitation on the seed germination of stipagrostis ciliata（Desf.） de Winter, a perennial grass species. The seeds were collected from the Bou Hedma Park, sidi Bouzid Governorate, Central Tunisia. The thermal time and hydrothermal time models were used to describe the seed germination of s. ciliata under different water potentials and temperatures. The germination response of s. ciliata seeds in darkness was evaluated over a range of temperatures（15°C, 20°C, 25°C, 30°C and 35°C） and across a wide range of osmotic potentials（0.0, –0.2, –0.6, –1.2, –1.6 and –2.0 MPa） of the polyethylene glycol（PEG6000） solutions at each temperature level. Among the tested temperatures, 25°C was found to be the optimal temperature to the germination of s. ciliata seeds. The final germination percentage（75.2%） was obtained with distilled water. The progressive decrease of osmotic potential of the PEG6000 solutions inhibited the seed germination. However, the number of days to first germination was increased with a reduction of osmotic potential. A significant positive relationship was identified between final germination percentage of s. ciliata seeds and osmotic potential of the PEG6000 solutions, with R^2 ranging from 0.5678 to 0.8761. Furthermore, a high degree of congruency between predicted and observed germination time course curves was observed. In general, s. ciliata exhibits a significant adaptation capacity for water limitation and high temperature in arid ecosystems.

Effect of Tempcore Processing on Mitigating Problems of Tramp Elements in Low C steel Produced from Recycled Material

The effect of tramp elements in the steel was intensively studied. It was found that the solubility of tramp elements decreased as the temperature decreased under normal cooling conditions. The tramp elements （Cu, Pb, and sn） diffused toward the grain boundaries, and intermetallic compounds or rich phases which have low melting points were formed, causing reduction in ductility and failure during the bending test. Rebars with Cu content which were left to air cooling after the last step showed drop in elongation, up to 32 %. On contrast, the samples with high per- centage of tramp elements （Cu, Pb, and sn） in the billet, which were rolled and subjected to Tempcore process, did not show drop in elongation or failure in bending test （especially for rebar with diameter less than 32 mm）; however, copper must be less than 0.35 mass% to prevent the precipitation of Cu-rich zones of critical size in 32 mm. When quench- ing was applied, the tramp elements remained in the interstitial supersaturated solid solution positions inside the grains and would not have the chance to diffuse and form precipitates, hindering the copper precipitates from reac- hing the critical size necessary for impairing the properties. This would hinder the occurrence of the harmful effect of the tramp elements on the elongation or the hot shortness after rolling.

Cardiac diseases are one of the greatest global health *** to the high annual mortality rates,cardiac diseases have attracted the attention of numerous researchers in recent *** article proposes a hybrid fuzzy fusion classification model for cardiac arrhythmia *** fusion model is utilized to optimally select the highest-ranked features generated by a variety of well-known feature-selection *** ensemble of classifiers is then applied to the fusion’s *** proposed model classifies the arrhythmia dataset from the University of California,Irvine into normal/abnormal classes as well as 16 classes of ***,at the preprocessing steps,for the miss-valued attributes,we used the average value in the linear attributes group by the same class and the most frequent value for nominal ***,in order to ensure the model optimality,we eliminated all attributes which have zero or constant values that might bias the results of utilized *** preprocessing step led to 161 out of 279 attributes(features).Thereafter,a fuzzy-based feature-selection fusion method is applied to fuse high-ranked features obtained from different heuristic feature-selection *** short,our study comprises three main blocks:(1)sensing data and preprocessing;(2)feature queuing,selection,and extraction;and(3)the predictive *** proposed method improves classification performance in terms of accuracy,F1measure,recall,and precision when compared to state-of-the-art *** achieves 98.5%accuracy for binary class mode and 98.9%accuracy for categorized class mode.

Objective:To investigate the effects of season,size and sex on the dynamic of gill metazoan parasite infesting the Balistes capriscus(Gmelin,1788)(Teleostei:Balistidae)(***)of the Gulf of Gabès(southern Tunisia,Central Mediterranean sea).Methods:A parasitological survey of the grey triggerfish *** from the Gulf of Gabès(southern Tunisia,Central Mediterranean sea)was conducted monthly from June 2011 to June 2012.A total of 1080 fish were collected from commercial catches by pelagic trawl net at different fishing ports at Chebba(34°14'N,11°06'E),Kerkennah(34°45'N,11°17'E)and Zarzis(33°41'N,11°48'E).The weight,size,sex,date and area of capture of each specimen were ***,*** was examined to search for *** each parasite species,parasitological indices were ***:The parasite species are indentified as two copepods:Naobranchia variabilis,Taneacanthus ballistae and a monogenean:Ancyrocephalus *** parasitological indices depend significantly on seasonality;the highest prevalence of Naobranchia variabilis,Taneacanthus ballistae and Ancyrocephalus balisticus(28.89%,35.93%and 55.56%respectively)was recorded during summer season(June–August),while the lowest prevalence of each(6.3%,4.44%,8.15%)recorded during winter season(December–February).Furthermore the parasitological indices depend significantly on the host size but not on host ***:Our data suggest that the dynamic of gill metazoan parasite infesting *** is a result of a complex of biotic and abiotic *** is the first study on the effects of season,size and sex on the dynamic of gill metazoan parasite infesting ***(Teleostei:Balistidae)of the Gulf of Gabès(southern Tunisia,Central Mediterranean sea).

Objective:To determine the spawning activity using gonadosomatic index(GsI)and gonad histology the Balistes capriscus(Teleostei:Balistidae)of the Gulf of Gabès(southern Tunisia,Central Mediterranean sea).Methods:The reproductive biology of the species,based on 756(480 females and 276 males),collected from commercial catches at several fishing ports including Chebba,Kerkennah and Zarzis at respective GPs coordinates(34°14'N,11°06'E),(34°45'N,11°17'E),(33°41'N,11°48'E)was studied over 28 months(January 2008-April 2010)using GsI and gonad *** used in this study ranged from 11.30 to 45.60 cm in fork ***:Both GsI and gonad histology suggest that spawning activity occurred mainly between July and mid-september with a peak in July,coinciding with summer *** first maturation occurred at 20.26 cm fork length for females and 21.30 cm fork length for *** monthly values of hepatosomatic index and condition factor(K)indicated that the liver is the main organ responsible for the mobilization process of the energizing reserves during the sexual ***:It is the first inventory of gonadal maturation and histological observations of the grey triggerfish Balistes capriscus Gmelin,1789(Teleostei:Balistidae)in the Gulf of Gabès,(southern Tunisia,Central Mediterranean sea).

Preliminary observations on the feeding habits of the Mediterranean needlefish Tylosurus acus imperialis(Teleostei:Belonidae)

Objective:To present the first information on the feeding habits of the Mediterranean needlefish Tylosurus acus imperialis(***)of Tunisia and to examine the diet variation in relation to the fish size,maturity and ***:Gut contents of 92 specimens of ***,collected mainly from May 2004 to July 2006 off the Gulf of Gabès,southeastern Tunisian coast,were ***:The results showed that 55.4%of them had empty guts and 44.6%contained food in their *** emptiness index did not vary significantly according to size classes or sexes of *** food consisted of teleosts(Mugilidae,Gobidae and Belonidae)(59.63%)followed by crustaceans(40.24%),mostly decapods sycionia carinata(5.42%).A decrease in the feeding rate at the peak of the spawning season was observed for both sexes.A diet variation among juvenile and adult specimens of *** was ***:This study enhances our knowledge on the biology of the Mediterranean needlefish *** fish is an active predator and an opportunistic feeder but the feeding rate declines at the peak of the spawning season.

Does granulocyte-colony stimulating factor administration induce damage or repair response in schistosomiasis?

AIM:To introduce Granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CsF) as a new therapeutic modality for schistosomiasis through stem cell mobilization,immunomodulation or fibrosis remodeling. METHODs:In this study,a 5 d course of human recombinant G-CsF (100 μg/kg sc) was applied to schis-tosoma mansoni-infected mice at different stages of disease (5 d before infection as well as 3,5 and 7 wk post-infection). The animals were sacrificed at 10 d as well as 4,6 and 8 wk post infection. Mice were examined for:(1) Total leukocyte count which is an accepted surrogate marker for the stem cell mobilization into the circulation; (2) Egg count in intestine and liver tissue to assess the parasitic load; and (3) Histopathological changes in Hx/E and Masson trichrome stained sections as well as collagen content in sirius redstained liver sections to determine the severity of liver fibrosis. REsULTs:Mice developed leukocytosis. The egg load and the number of granulomas were not affected by the G-CsF treatment but there was an obvious change in the composition of granulomas towards an increased cellularity. Moreover,fibrosis was significantly decreased in treated groups compared to untreated animals (collagen content either preinfection or at 3 and 5 wk post infection:5.8 ± 0.5,4.7 ± 0.5,4.0 ± 0.7 vs 8.2 ± 0.9; P ≤ 0.01). CONCLUsION:Although G-CsF did not cause direct elimination of the parasite,it enhanced granulomatous reaction and reduced the fibrosis. Further investigation of the underlying mechanisms of these two actions is warranted.
