The interaction between metabolic dysfunction and inflammation is central to the development of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s ***-related conditions like type 2 diabetes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease exacerbate this *** lipid accumulation,particularly in the liver,initiates a cascade of inflammatory processes that extend to the brain,influencing critical metabolic regulatory *** and palmitate,key lipid components,along with lipid transporters lipocalin-2 and apolipoprotein E,contribute to neuroinflammation by disrupting blood–brain barrier integrity and promoting *** insulin resistance further exacerbates brain insulin resistance and *** interventions targeting peripheral lipid metabolism and insulin signaling pathways have shown promise in reducing neuroinflammation in animal ***,translating these findings to clinical practice requires further investigation into human *** conclusion,metabolic dysfunction,peripheral inflammation,and insulin resistance are integral to neuroinflammation and *** these complex mechanisms holds potential for identifying novel therapeutic targets and improving outcomes for neurodegenerative diseases.

Microwave-hydrothermal treatment of persis- tent and bioaccumulative perfluorooctanoic acid （PFOA） in water with persulfate （S2O2-） has been found effective. However, applications of this process to effectively remediate PFOA pollution require a better understanding on free-radical scavenging reactions that also take place. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects ofpH （pH= 2.5, 6.6, 8.8, and 10.5）, chloride concentra- tions （0.01-0.15 mol.L-1）, and temperature （60℃, 90℃, and 130℃） on persulfate oxidation of PFOA under microwave irradiation. Maximum PFOA degradation occurred at pH 2.5, while little or no degradation at pH 10.5. lowering system pH resulted in an increase in PFOA degradation rate. Both high pH and chloride concentrations would result in more scavenging of sulfate free radicals and slow down PFOA degradation. When chloride concentrations were less than 0.04 mol.L^-1 at 90℃ and 0.06mol.L^-1 at 60℃, presence of chloride ions had insignificant impacts on PFOA degradation. However, beyond these concentration levels, PFOA degradation rates reduced significantly with an increase in chloride concentrations, especially under the higher temperature.

AIM Capsaicin, a pungent ingredient found in red pepper, has long been used in spices, food additives, and drugs. Cell death induced by the binding of capsaidn was examined in a human gastric adenocarcinoma cell line （AGS cells）. METHODS： By using XTT-based cytotoxicity assay, flow cytometry using the TUNEL method, and quantitation of DNA fragmentation, both cell death and DNA fragmentaUon were detected in AGS cells treated with capsaicin. By using Western blotting methods, capsaicin reduced the expression of Bcl-2, the antiapoptotic protein, in AGS cells in a concentration-dependent manner. RESULTS- After incubation of AGS cells with capsaicin for 24 h, cell viability decreased significantly in a dose-dependent manner. After incubation of AGS cells with capsaicin for 24 h, apoptotic bodies also significantly increased, and were again correlated with the dose of capsaicin. When the concentration of capsaicin was 1 mmol/L, the amount of DNA fragments also increased. Similar results were also in the lower traces. CONCLUSION： These results suggest that capsaicin- induced cell death might be via a Bcl-2 sensitive apoptotic pathway. Therefore, capsaicin might induce protection from gastric cancer.

BACKGROUND： The majority of mammalian genomes have been found to be transcribed into non-coding RNAs. One category of non-coding RNAs is classified as long non-coding RNAs （lncRNAs） based on their transcript sizes larger than 200 nucleotides. Growing evidence has shown that lncRNAs are not junk transcripts and play regulatory roles in multiple aspects of biological processes. Dysregulation of lncRNA expression has also been linked to diseases, in particular cancer. Therefore, studies of lncRNAs have attracted significant interest in the field of medical research. Nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1 （NEAT1）, a nuclear lncRNA, has recently emerged as a key regulator involved in various cellular processes, physiological responses, developmental processes, and disease development and progression. OBJECTIVE： This review will summarize and discuss the most recent findings with regard to the roles of NEAT1 in the function of the nuclear paraspeckle, cellular pathways, and physiological responses and processes. Particularly, the most recently reported studies regarding the pathological roles of deregulated NEAT1 in cancer are highlighted in this review. METHODS： We performed a systematic literature search using the Pubmed search engine. Studies published over the past 8 years （between January 2009 and August 2016） were the sources of literature review. The following keywords were used：＂Nuclear enriched abundant transcript 1,＂＂NEATI,＂ and ＂paraspeckles.＂ RESULTS： The Pubmed search identified 34 articles related to the topic of the review. Among the identified literature, 13 articles report findings related to cellular functions of NEAT1 and eight articles are the investigations of physiological functions of NEAT1. The remaining 13 articles are studies of the roles of NEAT1 in cancers. CONCLUSION： Recent advances in NEAT1 studies reveal the multifimctional roles of NEAT1 in various biological processes, which are beyond its role in nuclear paraspeckles. Recent studies al

AIM： Prior Helicobacterpylori （Hpylori infection has often been underestimated. These underestimations have misled physicians attempting to determine the significance between Hpyloriand certain gastrointestinal lesions such as intestinal metaplasia, atrophic gastritis, and gastric cancer. Our study endeavored to debit past Hppylorinfections accurately, easily, and rapidly with the newly developed irnmunoblot kit, Helico Blot 2.1. METHODS： Thirty-three patients, including 25 H pylori infected and 8 uninfected cases, were enrolled in our study. All patients received consecutive gastroendoscopic examinations and ^3C-urea breath test （UBT） tests at 6- or 12-mo intervals for up to 4 years. Serum samples were obtained from each patient at the same time. Intragastric H pylori infection was confirmed in accordance with the gold standard. Twenty-five H pylori-infected patients received triple therapies after initial bacterial confirmation, and were successful in eradicating their infections. Serially obtained sera were tested by means of Helico Blot 2.1. RESULTS： Current infection marker detected by Helico Blot 2.1 was unreliable for representing ongoing Hpylori infection. Only 35 and 37 ku antibodies of H pylorihad significant seroconversion rates 1 year after having been cured. The seroposiUve rates of 116 ku （cytotoxin-associated antigen [CagA]） and Helico Blot 2.1 were nearly 100% during 4-year follow-up period. Both CagA antigen and Helico blot 2.1 could serve as indicators of long-term H pylori infection. CONCLUSION： Helico Blot 2.1 can detect past H pylori infections for up to 4 years, and is the best method to date for detecting previous long-term H pylori infection. 2005 The WJG Press and Elsevier Inc. This is a case report of a patient who presented with acute pancreatitis without the common causes. A pancreatic biopsy revealed large B cell lymphoma. Spleen lymphoma with pancreatic involvement inducing acute pancreatitis, which is a rare disorder, was diagnosed. Here we also review the few similar cases reported in the literature.

A bulging intervertebral disc (IVD) occurs when pressure on a spinal disc damages the once healthy disc,causing it to compress or change its normal *** medicine,most attention has been paid clinically to diagnosis of and treatment for such problems,which little effect has been made to understand such issues from a mechanics perspective,i.e.,the bulging deformation of the soft IVD induced by excessive compressive *** report herein a simple elasticity solution to understand the bulging disc *** simplicity,the soft IVD is modeled as an incompressible circular composite layer consisting of an inner nucleus and outer annulus,sandwiched between two vertebral segments which are much stiffer than the IVD and can be treated as rigid *** adopting any assumptions regarding prescribed displacements or stresses,we obtained the stress and displacement fields within the composite layer when a certain compressive stain is applied via an asymptotic *** asymptotic approach is very simple and accurate enough for prediction of the bugling profile of the *** also performed finite-element modeling (FEM) to validate our solutions;the predicted stress and displacement fields inside the composite are in good agreement with the FEM results.
