Community responses to extreme climatic conditions

Species assemblages and natural communities are increasingly impacted by changes in the frequency and severity of extreme climatic events. Here we propose a brief overview of expected and demonstrated direct and indirect impacts of extreme events on animal communities. We show that differential impacts on basic biological parameters of individual species can lead to strong changes in community composition and structure with the potential to considerably modify the functional traits of the community. Sudden disequilibria have even been shown to induce irreversible shifts in marine ecosystems, while cascade effects on various taxonomic groups have been highlighted in Mediterranean forests. Indirect effects of extreme climatic events are expected when event-induced habitat changes （e.g. soil stability, vegetation composition, water flows altered by droughts, floods or hurricanes） have differential consequences on species assembled within the communities. Moreover, in increasing the amplitude of trophic mismatches, extreme events are likely to turn many systems into ecological traps under climate change. Finally, we propose a focus on the potential impacts of an extreme heat wave on local assemblages as an empirical case study, analysing monitoring data on breeding birds collected in France. In this example, we show that despite specific populations were differently affected by local temperature anomalies, communities seem to be unaffected by a sudden heat wave. These results suggest that communities are tracking climate change at the highest possible rate [Current Zoology 57 （3）： 406-413, 2011].

Categorizations of Limits of Grothendieck Groups over a Frobenius P-Category

In[Frobenius Categories Versus Brauer Blocks,Progress in Math.,274]and in[Ordinary Grothendieck groups of a Frobenius P-category,Algebra Colloq.18(2011)1-76],we consider suitable inverse limits of Grothendieck groups of categories of modules in characteristics p and zero,obtained from a folded Frobenius P-category(F,aut_(F)sc),which covers the case of the Frobenius P-categories associated with blocks;moreover,in[Beyond a question of Markus Linckelmann,***/abs/1507.04278]we show that a folded Frobenius P-category is actually equivalent to the choice of a regular central k^(*)-extension F^(SC) of F^(SC) ***,taking advantage of the existence of a perfect F^(SC) -locality P^(SC) we exhibit those inverse limits as the true Grothendieck groups of the categories of K_(*)G-and k_(*)G-modules for a suitable k_(*)-group G associated to the k^(*)-category P^(SC) obtained from P^(SC) and F^(SC) .It depends on a vanishing cohomology result,given with more generality intheAppendix.

Direct ammonium oxidation to nitrogen gas (Dirammox) in Alcaligenes strain HO-1: The electrode role

It has been recently suggested that Alcaligenes use a previously unknown pathway to convert ammonium into dinitrogen gas(Dirammox)via hydroxylamine(NH2OH).This fact alone already implies a significant decrease in the aeration requirements for the process,but the process would still be dependent on external *** work studied the potential use of a polarised electrode as an electron acceptor for ammonium oxidation using the recently described Alcaligenes strain HO-1 as a model heterotrophic *** indicated that Alcaligenes strain HO-1 requires aeration for metabolism,a requirement that cannot be replaced for a polarised electrode ***,concomitant elimination of succinate and ammonium was observed when operating a previously grown Alcaligenes strain HO-1 culture in the presence of a polarised electrode and without *** usage of a polarised electrode together with aeration did not increase the succinate nor the nitrogen removal rates observed with aeration ***,current density generation was observed along a feeding batch test representing an electron share of 3%of the ammonium removed in the presence of aeration and 16%without *** tests suggested that hydroxylamine oxidation to dinitrogen gas could have a relevant role in the electron discharge onto the ***,the presence of a polarised electrode supported the metabolic functions of Alcaligenes strain HO-1 on the simultaneous oxidation of succinate and ammonium.

Existence, Uniqueness and Functoriality of the Perfect Locality over a Frobenius P-Category

Let p be a prime, P a finite p-group and F- a Frobenius P-category. The question on the existence of a suitable category L^scextending the full subcategory of F over the set of F-selfcentralizing subgroups of P goes back to Dave Benson in 1994. In 2002 Carles Broto, Ran Levi and Bob Oliver formulate the existence and the uniqueness of the category L^sc in terms of the annulation of an obstruction 3-cohomology element and of the vanishing of a 2-cohomology group, and they state a sufficient condition for the vanishing of these n-cohomology groups. Recently, Andrew Chermak has proved the existence and the uniqueness of L^sc via his objective partial groups, and Bob Oliver, following some of Chermak＇s methods, has also proved the vanishing of those n-cohomology groups for n 〉1, both applying the Classification of the finite simple groups. Here we give direct proofs of the existence and the uniqueness of L^sc; moreover, in [11] we already show that L^sc can be completed in a suitable category L extending F and we also prove some functoriality of this correspondence.

Human benign prostatic hyperplasia heterotransplants as an experimental model

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a nonmalignant adenomatous enlargement of the pefiurethral prostate gland. It is a common disease in older men. In addition to man,spontaneous benign prostatic hyperplasia occurs in chimpanzee and the dog. Alternatives to these spontaneous models are induced benign prostatic hyperplasia,xenografts and in vitro models. Xenografts may be induced by cells cultured in vitro or by the heterotransplantation of primary surgical specimens into immunosuppressed mice. The purpose of this review is to integrate data from more than 30 years of heterotransplantation research in the study of benign hyperplasia of the prostate. Heterotransplantation has provided data regarding the histopathology,morphology,tissue markers,androgen receptor expression,tissue kinetics,take rate and tissue vasculature for this prostate *** are advantages,as well as limitations,that have been identified for human prostate disease heterotransplants versus xenotransplantation of cultured ***,heterotransplanted tissue is better at retaining tissue morphology,pathology,secretory activity,expression of tissue markers and human vasculature of the patient＇s original specimen. Furthermore,heterotransplanted tissue preserves the three-dimensional tissular architecture of the prostate to maintain critical stromal-epithelial cell interactions.

The Hecke Algebra of a Frobenius P-Category

We introduce a new avatar of a Frobenius P-category F under the form of a suitable subring HF of the double Burnside ring of P -- called the Hecke algebra of F- where we are able to formulate：（i） the generalization to a Frobenius P-category of the Alperin Fusion Theorem, （ii） the ＂canonical decomposition＂ of the morphisms in the exterior quotient of a Frobenius P-category restricted to the selfcentralizing objects as developed in chapter 6 of [4], and （iii） the ＂basic P × P-sets＂ in chapter 21 of [4] with its generalization by Kari Ragnarsson and Radu Stancu to the virtual P ×P-sets in [6]. We also explain the relationship with the usual Hecke algebra of a finite group.

Human prostate cancer heterotransplants： a review on this experimental model

A common model used for preclinical research was in vitro human tumor cell culture. An alternative model was the direct implantation of a unique patient＇s tumor biopsy specimens into immunodeficient host mice. Published data from PubMed （http：//***） and Current Contents Connect databases （http：//***/ products_services/science/science_roducts/a-z/current_contents_connect） were reviewed. Prostate cancer （PCa） heterotransplantation was evaluated using histopathology, morphology, cell differentiation, DNA content, tumor marker expression, metastases, tumor kinetics, tumor take rate and tumor vasculature in the first tumor heterotransplant. The heterotransplanted tumor retained the biological properties of the original tumor, such as morphology, degree of differentiation, pathology, secretory activity, expression of tumor markers and human vasculature. Human PCa heterotransplants have considerable experimental advantages over cell culture following xenotransplantation.

Small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate： are heterotransplants a better experimental model？

Small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate （SCNCP） is an uncommon type of prostate cancer. However, it is of clinical importance because it is one of the most aggressive tumors of the prostate with a very poor prognosis. There exist few artificially cultured tumor cell lines to study SCNCE Then, another approach to that study consists in the use of fresh tumor tissue obtained from patients and its heterotransplantation into host mice. The purpose of this review is to integrate data from more than 20 years of heterotransplantation research in the study of small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of the prostate （SCNCP）. Heterotransplantation has provided data regarding the histopathology, karyotype, DNA content, cell cycle frequency, tumor markers, androgen receptor expression, metastasis and take rate of this prostate disease. When possible, comparisons between original in situ specimens removed from patients and heterotransplanted tissue from host mice have been made. There are advantages, as well as limitations, that have been identified for SCNCP heterotransplants versus xenotransplantation of cultured cells. Overall, heterotransplanted tumors are better than conventional tumor xenografts at retaining tumor morphology, pathology, secretory activity and expression of tumor markers of the patient＇s original specimen. Furthermore, heterotransplanted tissue preserves the three-dimensional tumor architecture of the prostate to maintain critical stromal-epithelial cell interactions.
