Changes of the peripapillary vascular parameters inpremature infants without retinopathy of prematurityusing U-net segmentation

AIM:To quantitatively assess the changes in mean vascular tortuosity(mVT)and mean vascular width(mVW)around the optic disc and their correlation with gestational age(GA)and birth weight(BW)in premature infants without retinopathy of prematurity(ROp).METHODS:A single-center retrospective study included a total of 133(133 eyes)premature infants[mean corrected gestational age(CGA)43.6wk]without ROp as the premature group and 130(130 eyes)CGA-matched fullterm infants as the control *** peripapillary mVT and mVW were quantitatively measured using computerassisted ***:premature infants had significantly higher mVT(p=0.0032)and lower mVW(p=0.0086)by 2.68(10^(4) cm^(-3))and 1.85μm,*** analysis with GA showed significant differences(p=0.0244)in mVT between the early preterm and middle to late preterm groups,but the differences between mVW were not significant(p=0.6652).The results of the multiple linear regression model showed a significant negative correlation between GA and BW with mVT after adjusting sex and CGA(p=0.0211 and p=0.0006,respectively).For each day increase in GA at birth,mVT decreased by 0.1281(10^(4) cm^(-3))and for each 1 g increase in BW,mVT decreased by 0.006(10^(4) cm^(-3)).However,GA(p=0.9402)and BW(p=0.7275)were not significantly correlated with ***:preterm birth significantly affects the peripapillary vascular parameters that indicate higher mVT and narrower mVW in premature infants without *** in these parameters may provide new insights into the pathogenesis of ocular vascular disease.

Rebuilding the theory of isotope fractionation for evaporation of silicate melts under vacuum condition

Isotope eff ects are pivotal in understanding silicate melt evaporation and planetary accretion *** on the Hertz-Knudsen equation,the current theory often fails to predict observed isotope fractionations of laboratory experiments due to its oversimplified ***,we point out that the Hertz-Knudsen-equation-based theory is incomplete for silicate melt evaporation cases and can only be used for situations where the vaporized species is identical to the one in the *** propose a new model designed for silicate melt evaporation under *** model considers multiple steps including mass transfer,chemical reaction,and *** derivations reveal a kinetic isotopic fractionation factor(KIFF orα)αour model=[m(^(1)species)/m(^(2)species)]^(0.5),where m(species)is the mass of the reactant of reaction/nucleation-limiting step or species of diffusion-limiting step and superscript 1 and 2 represent light and heavy isotopes,*** model can eff ectively reproduce most reported KIFFs of laboratory experiments for various elements,i.e.,Mg,Si,K,Rb,Fe,Ca,and ***,the KIFF-mixing model referring that an overall rate of evaporation can be determined by two steps jointly can account for the eff ects of low p_(H2)pressure,composition,and *** addition,we find that chemical reactions,diffusion,and nucleation can control the overall rate of evaporation of silicate melts by using the fitting slope in ln(−ln f)versus ln(t).Notably,our model allows for the theoretical calculations of parameters like activation energy(E_(a)),providing a novel approach to studying compositional and environmental eff ects on evaporation processes,and shedding light on the formation and evolution of the proto-solar and Earth-Moon systems.

Obesity is associated with gut dysbiosis and metabolic *** tea extract(JSTE)reduced fat accumulation and body weight in obese ***,the effects and mechanism of JSTE in preventing obesity were ***,we used different doses of JSTE(75,150 and 300 mg/(kg·day))to evaluate the effect on high-fat diet(HFD)-induced rats under 8 weeks of ***,our results showed that JSTE could significantly reduce body weight gain,blood lipid levels and fat accumulation,improve fatty damage in liver tissue(ppression of intestinal tight junction proteins(ppples showed that JSTE could effectively reverse the microbial diversity and the ratio of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes to normal levels in HFD-fed *** and Erysipelotrichaceae,which are positively related to obesity,were decreased by JSTE intervention(pprevent obesity by modulating gut microbiota dysbiosis,intestinal barrier dysfunction,metabolic endotoxemia and chronic low-grade infl ammation in HFD-induced rats.

Coupling changes of soil functional gene abundances and extracellular enzyme activities across the diagnostic horizons of agricultural Isohumosols

Soil functional microbial taxa and extracellular enzymes are involved in a variety of biogeochemical cycling *** many studies have revealed the vertical change patterns of microbial communities along soil profile,the general understanding of the coupling changes in the functional gene abundances(FGAs)and extracellular enzyme activities(EEAs)in soil profiles is still limited,which hinders us from revealing soil ecosystem ***,we comparatively investigated the FGAs and EEAs in the diagnostic A,B,and C horizons of soil profiles obtained from two suborders of Isohumosols(Mollisols),Ustic and Udic Isohumosols,in Northeast China based on quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and standard fluorometric techniques,*** distribution patterns of both FGAs and EEAs significantly distinguished by the two soil suborders and were also separated from A to C ***,the variations of EEAs and FGAs were greater in Udic Isohumosols compared to Ustic Isohumosols along soil profiles,and greater changes were observed in C horizon than in A *** FGAs and EEAs correspondently decreased along the soil ***,when normalized by soil organic carbon,the specific EEAs significantly increased in deep soil horizons,suggesting that microorganisms will input more resources to the production of enzymes to ensure microbial nutrient requirements under resource *** importantly,we revealed that soil microbial nutrient demands were limited by carbon(C)and phosphorus(p),and the C and p limitations significantly increased along soil profiles with a greater C limitation observed in Ustic Isohumosols than in Udic ***,our findings provided solid evidence showing the links between FGAs,EEAs,and microbial nutrient limitations,which would be helpful for a better understanding of the ecosystem processes in soil profiles.

Let M=S^(n)/Γand h be a nontrivial element of finite order p inπ_(1)(Μ),where the integers n,p≥2,Γis a finite abelian group which acts freely and isometrically on the n-sphere and therefore M is diffeomorphic to a compact space *** this paper,we prove that there are infinitely many non-contractible closed geodesics of class[h]on the compact space form with C^(r)-generic Finsler metrics,where 4≤r≤∞.The conclusion also holds for Cr-generic Riemannian metrics for 2≤r≤∞.The proof is based on the resonance identity of non-contractible closed geodesics on compact space forms.

High toughness and CMAS resistance of REAlO_(3)/RE_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7)(RE=La,Nd,Sm,Eu,Gd,and Dy)composites with eutectic composition for thermal barrier coatings

Although rare earth zirconates(RE_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7))have garnered attention as viable candidates for thermal barrier coatings(TBCs),they suffer from low fracture toughness and accelerated calcium–magnesium–alumina–silicate(CMAS)melt corrosion at high service temperatures,which impedes their practical *** this work,we developed a series of REAlO_(3)/RE_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7)(RE=La,Nd,Sm,Eu,Gd,and Dy)composites with a eutectic composition that not only significantly enhanced the fracture toughness by more than 40%relative to that of RE_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7)but also exhibited improved resistance to CMAS *** increase in toughness arises from multiple mechanisms,such as ferroelastic toughening,fine-grain strengthening,and residual stress toughening,all of which trigger more crack defects and energy ***,the CMAS penetration depth of the REAlO_(3)/RE_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7)composites is approximately 36%lower than that of RE_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7).Al–O constituents in composites can capture CaO,SiO_(2),and MgO in CMAS melts and increase their viscosity,resulting in enhanced CMAS corrosion *** thermophysical properties of the REAlO_(3)/RE_(2)Zr_(2)O_(7)composites were also investigated,and their coefficient of thermal expansion and thermal conductivity are comparable to those of 7–8 wt%Y_(2)O_(3)partially stabilized ZrO2(YSZ),indicating their potential as TBC materials.

Investigation of wake-induced vibration interference between two staggered wave-cone cylinders at subcritical Reynolds number

The wake induced vibration(WIV)of a one-and two-degree-of-freedom(1DOF,2DOF)downstream wave-cone cylinder(WCC)behind a stationary equal-size upstream wave-cone cylinder in the staggered arrangement is numerically investigated at subcritical Reynolds number of 3900 by using shear stressed transfer(SST)k-ωturbulence *** streamwise pitch ratios(p/Dm)vary from 4 to 6 with a fixed incident angleα=8°.Experimental measurements were also performed for the validation of the present numerical *** is found that the largest vibration amplitude in crossflow direction occurred at p/Dm=4,Ur=8 with small difference of streamwise vibration at p/Dm=4,*** from single wavy-cone cylinder(SWCC),the downstream flexible one of a pair staggered WCCs got larger vibration amplitude during phase switching stage instead of in-phase *** upstream wake will suppress the triple frequency of main frequency in the power spectra density(pSD)functions of Cl but stimulate the double one of *** intriguing vibration mechanism happened in all 2DOF cases where the trajectory of downstream WCC is a significant ellipse rather than a figure of *** transformation of phase switching and the variation of the main frequency of drag coefficient(Cd)can be explained by the vortex-shedding modes of downstream WCC.

Background Global warming leading to heat stress(HS)is becoming a major challenge for broiler *** study aimed to explore the protective effects of seaweed(Enteromorpha prolifera)polysaccharides(EpS)on the intestinal barrier function,microbial ecology,and performance of broilers under HS.A total of 144 yellow-feathered broilers(male,56 days old)with 682.59±7.38 g were randomly assigned to 3 groups:1)TN(thermal neutral zone,23.6±1.8℃),2)HS(heat stress,33.2±1.5℃ for 10 h/d),and 3)HSE(HS+0.1%EpS).Each group contained 6 replicates with 8 broilers per *** study was conducted for 4 weeks;feed intake and body weights were measured at the end of weeks 2 and *** the end of the feeding trial,small intestine samples were collected for histomorphology,antioxidant,secretory immunoglobulin A(s Ig A)content,apoptosis,gene and protein expression analysis;cecal contents were also collected for microbiota analysis based on 16S r DNA *** Dietary EpS promoted the average daily gain(ADG)of broilers during 3–4 weeks of HS(pperoxide dismutase(T-SOD),glutathione S-transferase(GST),and the content of s Ig A in jejunum were improved by EpS supplementation(ppS reduced the epithelial cell apoptosis of jejunum and ileum in heat-stressed broilers(ppS in HS group broilers'diet upregulated the relative m RNA expression of Occludin,ZO-1,γ-GCLc and IL-10 of the jejunum(ppression of NF-κB p65,TNF-αand IL-1βof the jejunum(ppS increased the protein expression of Occludin and ZO-1,whereas it reduced the protein expression of NF-κB p65 and MLCK(pprotein expression of TNF-α(p=0.094)in heat-stressed ***,the proportions of Bacteroides and Oscillospira among the three groups were positively associated with jejunal apoptosis and pro-inflammatory cytokine ex
