Common and distinct regulation of human and mouse brown and beige adipose tissues： a promising therapeutic target for obesity

Obesity, which underlies various metabolic and cardio- vascular diseases, is a growing public health challenge for which established therapies are inadequate. Given the current obesity epidemic, there is a pressing need for more novel therapeutic strategies that will help adult individuals to manage their weight. One promising therapeutic intervention for reducing obesity is to enhance energy expenditure. Investigations into human brown fat and the recently discovered beige/brite fat have galvanized intense research efforts during the past decade because of their pivotal roles in energy dissi- pation. In this review, we summarize the evolution of human brown adipose tissue （hBAT） research and dis- cuss new in vivo methodologies for evaluating energy expenditure in patients. We highlight the differences between human and mouse BAT by integrating and comparing their cellular morphology, function, and gene expression profiles. Although great advances in hBAT biology have been achieved in the past decade, more cellular models are needed to acquire a better under- standing of adipose-specific processes and molecular mechanisms. Thus, this review also describes the development of a human brown fat cell line, which could provide promising mechanistic insights into hBAT function, signal transduction, and development. Finally, we focus on the therapeutic potential and current limi- tations of hBAT as an anti-glycemic, anti-lipidemic, and weight loss-inducing ＇metabolic panacea＇.

Preparation and electromagnetic shielding properties of flexible MXene/WPU@PET composite fabric

A two-dimensional transition metal carbide/nitride/carbonitride(MXene)and waterborne polyurethane(WPU)were uniformly mixed to form an MXene/WPU coating,which was loaded on polyethylene terephthalate(PET)fabric through blade coating to prepare an MXene/WPU@PET composite fabric with electromagnetic shielding *** micro-morphology and composition,surface wettability,tensile properties,electrical conductivity,and electromagnetic shielding properties of the composite fabric were *** results showed that the MXene/WPU@PET composite fabric exhibited the cha-racteristics of flexibility and firmness,and a unit area load capacity of MXene/WPU was 1.9 mg/cm^(2),the conductivity 760 S/m,and the electromagnetic shielding effectiveness up to 42 dB(8.2-12.4 GHz);and this convenient and effective method can be used to prepare lightweight and flexible electromagnetic shielding materials,promising broad application prospects in the field of wearable products.

Experiments on particle cluster behaviors in a fast fluidized bed

A three-dimensional(3D) fast fluidized bed with the riser of 3.0 m in height and 0.1 m in inner diameter was established to experimentally study the cluster behaviors of Geldart B particles. Five kinds of quartz sand particles(dp= 0.100, 0.139, 0.177, 0.250 and 0.375 mm and ρp= 2480 kg·m^(-3)) were respectively investigated, with the total mass of the bed material kept as 10 kg. The superficial gas velocity in the riser ranges from 2.486 to 5.594 m·s^(-1) and the solid mass flux alters from 30 to 70 kg·((m^(-2)·s))^(-1). Cluster characteristics and evolutionary processes in the different positions of the riser were captured by the cluster visualization systems and analyzed by the self-developed binary image processing. The results found four typical cluster structures in the riser,i.e., the macro stripe-shaped cluster, saddle-shaped cluster, U-shaped cluster and the micro cluster. The increasing superficial gas velocity and particle sizes result in the increasing average cluster size and the decreasing cluster time fraction, while the solid mass flux in the riser have the reverse influences on the cluster size and time fraction. Additionally, clusters in the upper region of the riser often have the larger size and time fraction than that in the lower region. All these effects of operating conditions on clusters become less obvious when particle size is less than 0.100 mm.

Tannery sludge with high chromium content has been identified as hazardous solid waste due to its potential toxic *** safety disposal and valorization of the tannery sludge remains a *** this study,the chromium stabilization mechanism was systematically investigated during chromium-rich tannery sludge was converted to biochar and the removal performance of the sludge biochar(SBC)for Cr(Ⅵ)from tannery wastewater was also *** results showed that increase in pyrolysis temperature was conductive to the stabilization of Cr and significant reduction of the proportion of Cr(Ⅵ)in *** was confirmed that the stabilization of chromium mainly was attributed to the embedding of chromium in the C matrix and the transformation of the chromium-containing substances from the amorphous Cr(OH)_(3)to the crystalline state,such as(FeMg)Cr_(2)O_(5).The biochar presented high adsorption capacity of Cr(Ⅵ)at low pH and the maximal theoretical adsorption capacity of SBC produced at 800°C can reach 352 mg Cr(Ⅵ)/g,the process of which can be well expressed by Langmuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo second order *** electrostatic effect and reduction reaction were dominantly responsible for the Cr(Ⅵ)adsorption by ***,this study provided a novel strategy for the harmless disposal and resource utilization for the solid waste containing chromium in leather industry.

Development of Heat Tolerant Two-Line Hybrid Rice Restorer Line Carrying Dominant Locus of OsHTAS

In order to create novel germplasm resources for breeding heat tolerant variety,we transferred a dominant allele OsHTAS,previously characterized and cloned from a high-temperature tolerant local variety HT54,which was collected from the rice production area of southern China,into a high-temperature sensitive intermediate breeding line HT13 through six rounds of successive backcross by using marker-assisted *** molecular analysis showed that the recovery of genetic background of a resultant near isogenic line(NIL),MHT13,was around 99.8%.The OsHTAS gene introduced in the MHT13 expressed normally in the HT13 genetic background,mediating heat tolerance and phenotype similar to those of the donor parent *** major agronomic traits of MHT13 resembled those of the recurrent parent ***,MHT13 had high general combining ability and its rice quality reached the grade 3 standard of edible high-quality rice issued by Ministry of Agriculture of the People’s Republic of China,which greatly improved its application value in rice production.

In clinical practice,we noticed that triple negative breast cancer(TNBC)patients had higher shear-wave elasticity(SWE)stiffness than non-TNBC patients and a higherα-SMA expression was found in TNBC tissues than the non-TNBC ***,SWE stiffness also shows a clear correlation to neoadjuvant response *** elaborate this phenomenon,TNBC cell membrane-modified polylactide acid-glycolic acid(PLGA)nanoparticle was fabricated to specifically deliver artesunate to regulate SWE stiffness through inhibiting CAFs functional *** tested in MDA-MB-231 and E0771 orthotopic tumor models,CAFs functional status inhibited by 231M-ARS@PLGA nanoparticles(231M-AP NPs)had reduced the SWE stiffness as well as attenuated hypoxia of tumor as tumor soil loosening agent which amplified the antitumor effects of paclitaxel and PD1 ***-cell sequencing indicated that the two main CAFs(extracellular matrix and wound healing CAFs)that produces extracellular matrix could influence the tumor SWE stiffness as well as the antitumor effect of ***,biomimetic nanoparticles inhibited CAFs function could attenuate tumor hypoxia by increasing proportion of inflammatory blood vessels and oxygen transport ***,our finding is fundamental for understanding the role of CAFs on affecting SWE stiffness and drugs antitumor effects,which can be further implied in the potential clinical theranostic predicting in neoadjuvant therapy efficacy through non-invasive analyzing of SWE imaging.

BYSL contributes to tumor growth by cooperating with the mTORC2 complex in gliomas
