Modulated Degradation Rates of Bone Mineral-Like Calcium Phosphate Glass to Support the Proliferation and Osteogenic Differentiation of Bone Marrow-Derived Stem Cells

With an elemental composition similar to bone mineral,and the ability to release phosphorus and calcium that benefit bone regeneration,Calcium Phosphate Glass(CPG)serves as a promising component of bone tissue engineering ***,the degradation of CPG composites typically results in increased acidity,and its impact on bone-forming activity is less *** this work,we prepared 3D-printed composite scaffolds comprising CPG,Poly-ε-caprolactone(PCL),and various Magnesium Oxide(MgO)*** the MgO content effectively suppressed the degradation of CPG,maintaining a physiological pH of the degradation *** the degradation of CPG/PCL scaffolds resulted in upregulated apoptosis of Rat Bone Marrow-derived Stem Cells(rBMSC),scaffolds containing MgO were free from these negative impacts,and an optimal MgO content of 1 wt%led to the most pronounced osteogenic differentiation of *** work demonstrated that the rapid degradation of CPG impaired the renewability of stem cells through the increased acidity of the surrounding media,and MgO effectively modulated the degradation rate of CPG,thus preventing the negative effects of rapid degradation and supporting the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation of the stem cells.

A green route to synthesize low-cost and high-performance hard carbon as promising sodium-ion battery anodes from sorghum stalk waste

Sodium-ion batteries(SIBs) have been considered to be potential candidates for next-generation low-cost energy storage systems due to the low-cost and abundance of Na resources. However, it is a big challenge to find suitable anode materials with low-cost and good performance for the application of SIBs. Hard carbon could be a promising anode material due to high capacity and expectable low-cost if originating from biomass. Herein, we report a hard carbon material derived from abundant and abandoned biomass of sorghum stalk through a simple carbonization method. The effects of carbonization temperature on microstructure and electrochemical performance are investigated. The hard carbon carbonized at 1300 ℃ delivers the best rate capability(172 mAh g^(-1) at 200 mA g^(-1)) and good cycling performance(245 mAh g^(-1) after 50 cycles at 20 mA g^(-1),96% capacity retention). This contribution provides a green route for transforming sorghum stalk waste into "treasure"of promising low-cost anode material for SIBs.

Efficacy of nerve growth factor on the treatment of optic nerve contusion Evaluation with visual evoked potential

BACKGROUND： Pattern- visual evoked potential （PVEP） can reflect the functional status of retinal ganglial cells （RGC） and visual cortex, and is an objective examination for visual pathway function. It is a unique method for objectively examining the optic nerve function of optic ganglion cells. OBJECTIVE： To observe the effects of nerve growth factor （NGF） on PVEF in the treatment of optic nerve contusion, evaluate the clinical efficacy of NGF, and make an efficacy comparison with vitamin B12. DESIGN： A randomly grouping, controlled observation. SETTING： Department of Ophthalmology, Tangshan Gongren Hospital Affiliated to Hebei Medical University. PARTICIPANTS： Forty patients with optic nerve contusion caused by eye trauma, who received the treatment in the Tangshan Worker Hospital Affiliated to Hebei Medical University between January 2006 and June 2007, were recruited in this study. The involved 40 patients, including 34 males and 6 females, were aged 14-59 years. They were confirmed to have optic nerve contusion by ophthalmologic consultation combined with history of disease and orbital CT examination. Informed consents of treatments and detected items were obtained from all the patients. The patients were randomly divided into 2 groups with 20 in each： NGF group and vitamin B12 group. METHODS： Conservative treatment was used in the two groups. In addition, patients in the NGF group were intramuscularly injected with NGF solution 18 μg /time, once a day. Those in the vitamin B12 group were injected by the same method with common vitamin B12 of 500 μg combined with vitamin B1 of 100 mg, once a day. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： PVEP examination was conducted in all the patients before, one and two weeks after treatment, and latency and amplitude at P100 were detected. A new evolutional model for institutional field knowledge flow network

Minimum Representative Size in Comparing Research Performance of Universities:the Case of Medicine Faculties in Romania

Purpose： The main goal of this study is to provide reliable comparison of performance in higher education. In this respect, we use scientometric measures associated with faculties of medicine in the six health studies universities in ***/methodology/approach： The method to estimate the minimum necessary size, proposed in in Shen et al.（2017）, is applied in this article. We collected data from the Scopus data-base for the academics of the departments of medicine within the six health studies universities in Romania during the 2009 to 2014. And two kind of statistic treatments based on that method are implemented, pair-wise comparison and one-to-the-rest comparison. All the results of these comparisons are ***： According to the results： We deem that Cluj and Tg. Mure？ have the superior and inferior performance respectively, since their reasonably small value of the minimum representative size, in either of the kinds of comparison, whichever indexes of citations, h-index, or g-index is used. we can not reliably distinguish differences among the rest of the faculties, since the quite large value of their minimum representative *** limitations： There is only six faculties of medicine in health studies universities in Romania are *** implications： Our methods of comparison play an important role in ranking data sets associated with different collective units, such as faculties, universities, institutions, based on some aggregate scores like mean and totality. Originality/value： We applied the minimum representative size to a new emprical context- that of the departments of medicine in the health studies universities in Romania.

Anti-diabetic and anti-hyperlipidemic effects of sea cucumber(Cucumaria frondosa) gonad hydrolysates in type Ⅱ diabetic rats

The present study investigated the anti-diabetic activity and potential mechanisms of sea cucumber gonad hydrolysates(SCGH)in a rat model of type II diabetes induced by streptozotocin(STZ)combined with high-fat diet(HFD).Results showed that SCGH significantly reduced water intake,fasting blood glucose level and glycated hemoglobin ***,the oral glucose tolerance,insulin resistance and plasma lipid level in diabetic rats were also ***,histological analysis showed that SCGH effectively protected the tissue structure of *** addition,mechanism studies showed that SCGH improved glucose metabolism via activating the IRS/Akt signaling pathway,and promoted lipid metabolism via activating the AMPK signaling *** summary,these findings suggested that SCGH have potential anti-diabetic effects by improving insulin resistance and lipid metabolism disorders.

Multiobjective Program with Support Functions Under(G, C, ρ)-Convexity Assumptions

This paper deals with multiobjective programming problems with support functions under （G, C, ρ）-convexity assumptions. Not only sufficient but also necessary optimality conditions for this kind of multiobjective programming problems are established from a viewpoint of （G, C, ρ）-convexity. When the sufficient conditions are utilized, the corresponding duality theorems are derived for general Mond-Weir type dual program.

Are Contributions from Chinese Physicists Undercited?

Purpose:In this work,we want to examine whether or not there are some scientific fields to which contributions from Chinese scholars have been un der or over ***/methodology/approach:We do so by comparing the number of received citations and the IOF of publications in each scientific field from each *** IOF is calculated from applying the modified closed system input–output analysis(MCSIOA)to the citation *** is a PageRank-like algorithm which means here that citations from the more influential subfields are weighted more towards the ***:About 40% of subfields in physics in China are undercited,meaning that their net influence ranks are higher(better)than the direct rank,while about 75% of subfields in the USA and German are *** limitations:Only APS data is analyzed in this *** expected citation influence is assumed to be represented by the IOF,and this can be *** implications:MCSIOA provides a measure of net influences and according to that ***,Chinese physicists’publications are more likely overcited rather than being ***/value:The issue of under or over cited has been analyzed in this work using MCSIOA.
