Mining Implication in the Geochemical Exploration of Fluvial Sediments of the East Nyambaka Volcanic Zone (Adamawa-Cameroon)

Geochemical characterization in stream sediments from Nyambaka locality was carried out on ten samples collected from the study area watershed. The distribution of trace metals in the sediments showed that some lithophiles (Be, Sc, V, Cr, Sr, Th, U), chalcophiles (Cu, Zn, Ga, As) and siderophiles (Mn, Co, Ni, Mo) have high average contents in the sediments compared to their average concentration in the upper crust. From the factorial analysis of the components, the total variance explained made it possible to represent and capture the main information on the data and to represent them in a graphical frame. Thus, using this graphical frame, the trace elements were divided into four groups opposed to each other. They show an enrichment of stream sediments in group 1 (Cr, Cu, Mn, Be, Ni, Co, Zr, Sr, Ba, Mg) and group 2 (Mo, As, Hg, V, Ag) elements more than group 3 (Ga, Sc, U) and group 4 (Au, Th). Rare earth analysis indicates a high abundance of Lanthanide (28.1 ppm to 42.4 ppm), a high concentration of light rare earth (LREE), and depletion of heavy rare earth (HREE). The variable LREE/HREE (7.24 LREE/ HREE 12.22) and (La/Yb)N (6.70 (La/Yb)N 11.72) ratios suggest an effect of heterogeneous sorting of heavy minerals with variable enrichment of dense and resistant minerals.

Parentage analysis in Gabonese colonies of soil-feeding termites belonging to the Cubitermes sp. affinis subarquatus complex of species （Termitidae＂ Termitinae）

Cubitermes spp. are widely distributed soil-feeding termite species in sub- Saharan Africa which play a fundamental role in soil structure and fertility. A complex of at least four cryptic species （i.e., Cubitermes sp. affunis subarquatus complex of species） has been recently described using molecular markers. In order to investigate the breeding system of these species, five microsatellite markers were used to carry out parentage and re- latedness analyses in 15 Gabonese colonies. Monogamy was confirmed as the predominant reproductive organization in Cubitermes spp. （76% of the colonies）. Within 30% of these monogamous colonies, a high relatedness between reproductives was shown, suggesting that mating between related individuals occurs. However, Cubitermes colonies can deviate from monogamy. Indeed, parental contributions by at least two related reproductives of the same sex were revealed in four colonies and polyandry was demonstrated in two of them. Infiltration of reproductives in the colony is the most plausible explanation for such cases of polygamy in Cubitermes spp.

The impact of male overweight on semen quality and outcome of assisted reproduction

It is well-documented that male overweight and obesity causes endocrine disorders that might diminish the male reproductive capacity; however, reports have been conflicting regarding the influence of male body mass index （BMI） on semen quality and the outcome of assisted reproductive technology （ART）. The aim of this study was to investigate whether increased male BMI affects sperm quality and the outcome of assisted reproduction in couples with an overweight or obese man and a non-obese partner. Data was prospectively collected from 612 infertile couples undergoing ART at a Danish fertility center. Self-reported information on paternal height and weight were recorded and BMI was calculated. The men were divided into four BMI categories： underweight BMI 〈 20 kgm^-2, normal BMI 20-24.9 kg m^-2, overweight BMI 25-29.9 kgm^-2 and obese BMI 〉 30 kgm^-2. Conventional semen analysis was performed according to the World Health Organization guideline and sperm DNA integrity was analyzed by the Sperm Chromatin Structure Assay （SCSA）. No statistically significant effect of male BMI was seen on conventional semen parameters （sperm concentration, total sperm count, seminal volume and motility） or on SCSA-results. We report the synthesis of high magnetic moment CoFe nanoparticles via the diffusion of Co and Fe in core/shell structured Co/Fe *** an organic solution,Co nanoparticles were coated with a layer of Fe to form a Co/Fe core/shell *** raising the solution temperature led to inter-diffusion of Co and Fe and formation of CoFe alloy *** nanoparticles have high saturation magnetization of up to 192 emu/g CoFe and can be further stabilized by thermal annealing at 600℃.

Sap flow for beech(Fagus sylvatica L.)in a natural and a managed forest—effect of spatial heterogeneity

A pentaploid-based linkage map of the ancestral octoploid strawberry Fragaria virginiana reveals instances of sporadic hyper-recombination

The first high-resolution genetic linkage map of the ancestral octoploid(2n=8x=56)strawberry species,Fragaria virginiana,was constructed using segregation data obtained from a pentaploid progeny *** novel mapping population of size 178 was generated by crossing highly heterozygous *** hybrid“LB48”as a paternal parent with diploid(2n=2x=14)Fragaria vesca“Hawaii 4”.The LB48 linkage map comprises 6055 markers genotyped on the Axiom®IStraw90 strawberry SNP *** map consists of 28 linkage groups(LGs)organized into seven homoeology groups of four LGs each,and excludes a small 29th LG of undefined *** member of each homoeology group was assignable to an“A”subgenome associated with ancestral diploid Fragaria vesca,while no other subgenomes were *** an intriguing discrepancy within homoeology group VI,synteny comparisons with the previously published Fragaria×ananassa DA×MO linkage map revealed substantial *** initial map construction,examination of crossover distributions revealed that six of the total 5162(=29 chromosomes/individual×178 individuals)chromosomes making up the data set exhibited abnormally high crossover counts,ranging from 15 to 48 crossovers per chromosome,as compared with the overall mean of 0.66 crossovers per *** of these six hyper-recombinant(HypR)chromosomes occurred in a different LG and in a different *** calculated upon exclusion of the six HypR chromosomes,the canonical(i.e.,broadly representative)LB48 map had 1851 loci distributed over a total map length of 1873 cM,while their inclusion increased the number of loci by 130,and the overall map length by 91 *** of these hyper-recombinant chromosomes points to the existence of a sporadically acting mechanism that,if identified and manipulable,could be usefully harnessed for multiple purposes by geneticists and breeders.

To quantify the relative contributions of Arctic sea ice and unforced atmospheric internal variability to the “warm Arctic, cold East Asia”(WACE) teleconnection, this study analyses three sets of large-ensemble simulations carried out by the Norwegian Earth System Model with a coupled atmosphere–land surface model, forced by seasonal sea ice conditions from preindustrial, present-day, and future periods. Each ensemble member within the same set uses the same forcing but with small perturbations to the atmospheric initial state. Hence, the difference between the present-day(or future) ensemble mean and the preindustrial ensemble mean provides the ice-loss-induced response, while the difference of the individual members within the present-day(or future) set is the effect of atmospheric internal variability. Results indicate that both present-day and future sea ice loss can force a negative phase of the Arctic Oscillation with a WACE pattern in winter. The magnitude of ice-induced Arctic warming is over four(ten) times larger than the ice-induced East Asian cooling in the present-day(future) experiment;the latter having a magnitude that is about 30% of the observed cooling. Sea ice loss contributes about 60%(80%) to the Arctic winter warming in the present-day(future) experiment. Atmospheric internal variability can also induce a WACE pattern with comparable magnitudes between the Arctic and East Asia. Ice-lossinduced East Asian cooling can easily be masked by atmospheric internal variability effects because random atmospheric internal variability may induce a larger magnitude warming. The observed WACE pattern occurs as a result of both Arctic sea ice loss and atmospheric internal variability, with the former dominating Arctic warming and the latter dominating East Asian cooling.
