Scanning fluorescence microscopes are now able to image large biological samples at high spatial and temporal *** comes at the expense of an increased light dose which is detrimental to fluorophore stability and cell *** highly reduce the light dose,we designed an adaptive scanning fluorescence microscope with a scanning scheme optimized for the unsupervised imaging of cell sheets,which underly the shape of many embryos and *** surface of the tissue is first delineated from the acquisition of a very small subset(~0.1%)of sample space,using a robust estimation *** alternative scanning strategies are then proposed to image the tissue with an improved photon budget,without loss in *** first strategy consists in scanning only a thin shell around the estimated surface of interest,allowing high reduction of light dose when the tissue is *** second strategy applies when structures of interest lie at the cell periphery(*** junctions).An iterative approach is then used to propagate scanning along cell *** demonstrate the benefit of our approach imaging live epithelia from drosophila *** the examples shown,both approaches yield more than a 20-fold reduction in light dose-and up to more than 80-fold-compared to a full scan of the *** smart-scanning strategies can be easily implemented on most scanning fluorescent imaging *** dramatic reduction in light exposure of the sample should allow prolonged imaging of the live processes under investigation.

This article chronicles a failed research *** designed and carried out a psychological intervention aimed at increasing esogastric and lung cancer patients’emotional competencies after *** present the final protocol of the study,a randomized controlled trial in a public hospital,and describe the difficulties encountered and our subsequent reflections,to provide researchers and clinicians with advice for the implementation of such ***,the role of psychology,emotions,and emotional competencies,is still underacknowledged in cancer *** efforts must be made to convince both physicians and patients of the importance of those *** and consequently,even distressed patients sure to benefit from such an intervention,do not take it *** particular,male patients often declined the intervention due to gender stereotypes,and as such creativity is needed to present such interventions in a motivating way for ***,and most importantly,even if there is a good rationale for a psychological intervention and all favorable conditions are present,it is essential to first conduct a feasibility/pilot ***,even the most thorough preparation is no guarantee of anticipating all issues due to important gaps between theory and practice.

We give a new justification of the linear membrane and flexural shell models. We prove that the sequence of scaled energy functionals associated with the scaled problem r-converges to the energy functional associated with a two-dimensional model. This two-dimensional model is a membrane or flexural one, depending on the geometric and kinematic conditions. Then, a classical argument allows to give a new proof of the convergence theorems recently obtained by P.G. Ciarlet, V. Lods and B. Miara.

Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) and furfural are promising chemicals for the creation of a bio-based economy. The development of an inexpensive catalytic system for converting cellulosic biomass into these chemicals is an important step in this regard. Ferric sulphate is a common, cheap and non-toxic Lewis acid that has been used to catalyse reactions such as wood depolymerisation. In this work, ferric sulphate was used to help the production of HMF and furfural from hardwood and softwood pulps. It was found that for hardwood pulp, the use of ferric sulphate alone gave a maximum HMF yield of 31.6 mol-%. The addition of the ionic liquid [BMIM]Cl or HCl as co-catalysts did not lead to an increase in the yields obtained. A prior decationisation step, however, resulted in HMF yields of 50.4 mol-%. Softwood pulp was harder to depolymerise than hardwood, with a yield of 28.7% obtained using ferric sulphate alone. The maximum HMF yield from softwood, 37.9 mol-%, was obtained using a combination of ferric sulphate and dilute HCl. It was thus concluded that ferric sulphate is a promising catalyst for HMF synthesis from cellulosic biomass.

Multispectral observations from unmanned aerial vehicles(UAVs)are currently used for precision agriculture and crop phenotyping applications to monitor a series of traits allowing the characterization of the vegetation ***,the limited autonomy of UAVs makes the completion of flights difficult when sampling large *** the throughput of data acquisition while not degrading the ground sample distance(GSd)is,therefore,a critical issue to be *** propose here a new image acquisition configuration based on the combination of two focal length(f)optics:an optics with f=4:2 mm is added to the standard f=8 mm(SS:single swath)of the multispectral camera(dS:double swath,double of the standard one).Two flights were completed consecutively in 2018 over a maize field using the AIRPHEN multispectral camera at 52 m *** dS flight plan was designed to get 80%overlap with the 4.2 mm optics,while the SS one was designed to get 80%overlap with the 8 mm *** a result,the time required to cover the same area is halved for the dS as compared to the *** georeferencing accuracy was improved for the dS configuration,particularly for the Z dimension due to the larger view angles available with the small focal length *** to plant height estimates demonstrates that the dS configuration provides similar results as the SS ***,for both the dS and SS configurations,degrading the quality level used to generate the 3d point cloud significantly decreases the plant height estimates.

Sub-Saharan Africa is witnessing a proliferation of photovoltaic(PV)waste due to the increasing number of solar PV power *** waste(panels,batteries,electrical cables,mounting structures,and inverters)consists of elements such as mercury,cadmium,chromium,lead,copper,aluminum,fluorinated compounds,and plastics that are toxic to human health and the environment if a proper management system is not *** many studies worldwide have focused on PV waste management,very few have been conducted in sub-Saharan *** study aims to investigate the current PV waste management system in Burkina Faso,determine stakeholder profiles,and propose strategies to enhance the existing *** research,interviews,questionnaires,and field visits were used in the *** survey showed that young people,mainly under 30 years of age and with a primary education,dominate(70%)in terms of PV waste collection and repair activities,while the more technical recycling and export activities are carried out mainly(88%)by stakeholders older than 40 years and with a secondary education(60%).Among the older stakeholders,100%are aware of the hazardous nature of PV waste,whereas 36%are young *** an environmental perspective,the main source of contamination observed is the release of lead-rich sulfuric acids into water and soil during the collection and repair *** the recycling of batteries and electrical cables,toxic fumes are emitted into the air,and recycling residues rich in toxic substances are *** reduce risks to human health and the environment when managing PV waste,the introduction of legislation,the multiplication of collection points and appropriate infrastructures,the training and awareness-raising of stakeholders,and the extended responsibility of manufacturers are *** on the economic feasibility of setting up formal management structures are needed to complete this work.

The formal asymptotic analysis of d. Fox, A. Raoult & J.C. Simo[10] has justified the twodimensional nonlinear "membrane" equations for a plate made of a Saint Venant-Kirchhoff *** model, which retains the material-frame indifference of the original three dimensional problem in the sense that its energy density is invariant under the rotations of R3, is equivalent to finding the critical points of a functional whose nonlinear part depends on the first fundamental form of the unknown deformed *** author establishes here, by the inverse function theorem, the existence of an injective solution to the clamped membrane problem around particular forces corresponding physically to an "extension" of the membrane. Furthermore, it is proved that the solution found in this fashion is also the unique minimizer to the nonlinear membrane functional, which is not sequentially weakly lower semi-continuous.

Neurodegenerative diseases are often misdiagnosed,especially when the diagnosis is based solely on clinical *** p75 neurotrophic receptor(p75^(NTR))has been studied as an index of sensory and motor nerve development and *** cleavable extracellular domain(ECd)is readily detectable in various biological fluids including plasma,serum and *** is evidence for increased p75NTR ECd levels in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease,amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,age-related dementia,schizophrenia,and diabetic *** p75^(NTR) ECd could be used as a biomarker for diagnosis and/or prognosis in these disorders,and whether it could potentially lead to the development of targeted therapies,remains an open *** this review,we present and discuss published studies that have evaluated the relevance of this emerging biomarker in the context of various neurodegenerative *** also highlight areas that require further investigation to better understand the role of p75^(NTR) ECd in the clinical diagnosis and management of neurodegenerative disorders.
