Motor inhibition efficiency in healthy aging: the role of γ-aminobutyric acid

The ability to cancel a motor response is critical for optimal functioning in various facets of daily life. Hence, efficient inhibitory motor control is a key function throughout the lifespan. Considering the fact that inhibitory motor function gradually declines with advancing age, it is not surprising that the study of motor inhibition in this age group is gaining considerable interest. In general, we can distinguish between two prominent types of motor inhibition, namely proactive and reactive inhibition. Whereas the anticipation for upcoming stops(proactive inhibition) appears readily preserved at older age, the ability to stop an already planned or initiated action(reactive inhibition) generally declines with advancing age. The differential impact of aging on proactive and reactive inhibition at the behavioral level prompts questions about the neural architecture underlying both types of inhibitory motor control. Here we will not only highlight the underlying structural brain properties of proactive and reactive inhibitory control but we will also discuss recent developments in brain-behavioral approaches, namely the registration of neurochemical compounds using magnetic resonance spectroscopy. This technique allows for the direct detection of the primary inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, i.e., γ-aminobutyric acid, across the broader cortical/subcortical territory, thereby opening new perspectives for better understanding the neural mechanisms mediating efficient inhibitory control in the context of healthy aging. Ultimately, these insights may contribute to the development of interventions specifically designed to counteract age-related declines in motor inhibition.

What Prompts the People's Bank of China to Change Its Monetary Policy Stance?Evidence from a Discrete Choice Model

In the present paper, we model the policy stance of the People＇s Bank of China （PBC） as a latent variable, and the discrete changes in the reserve requirement ratio, policy interest rates, and the scale of open market operations are taken as signals of movement of this latent variable. We run a discrete choice regression that relates these observed indicators of policy stance to major trends of macroeconomic and financial developments, which are represented by common factors extracted from a large number of variables. The predicted value of the estimated model can then be interpreted as the implicit policy stance of the PBC. In a second step, we estimate how much of the variation in the PBC＇ s implicit stance can be explained by measures of its policy objectives on inflation, growth and financial stability. We find that deviations of CPI inflation from an implicit target and deviations of broad money growth from the announced targets, but not output gaps, figure significantly in the PBC＇s policy changes.

Binding of Orysata lectin induces an immune response in insect cells

In mammals,plant lectinshave been shown to possess immunomodulatory properties,acting in both the innate and adaptive immune system to modulate the production of mediators of the immune response,ultimately improving host *** present,knowledge of immunomodulatory effects of plant lectins in insects is *** of insect cells with the Orysa sativa lectin,Orysata,was previously reported to induce cell aggregation,mimicking the immune process of *** this project we investigated the potential immunomodulatory effects of this mannose-binding lectin using Drosophila melanogaster S2 *** of the Orysata binding partners on the surface of S2 cells through a pull-down assay andproteomic analysis revealed 221 putative interactors,several of which were immunity-related *** qPCR analysis revealed the upregulation of Toll-and immune deficiency(IMD)-regulated antimicrobial peptides(Drs,Mtk,AttA,and Dpt)and signal transducers(Rel and Hid)belonging to the IMD *** addition,the iron-binding protein Transferrin 3 was identified as a putative interactor for Orysata,and treatment of S2 cells with Orysata was shown to reduce the intracellular iron *** together,we believe these results offer a new perspective on the effects by which plant lectins influence insect cells and contribute to the study of their immunomodulatory properties.

Characterization of acquired nutlin-3 resistant non-small cell lung cancer cells

Aim:The purpose of this manuscript is to study the potential characteristics of acquired nutlin-3 resistant non-small cell lung cancer cells(NSCLC).Nutlin-3 is an inhibitor of the murine-double minute 2 protein,the main negative regulator of wild type p53,of which several derivatives are currently in clinical ***:A549 NSCLC cells were exposed to increasing concentrations of nutlin-3 for a period of 18 *** derivates were cultured,and the most resistance subclone was selected for whole transcriptome *** set enrichment analysis was performed on differentially expressed genes between A549 nutlin-3 resistant cancer cells and the parental A549 p53 wild type cancer *** findings were validated at the gene,protein and/or functional ***:All nutlin-3 resistant subclones acquired mutations in the TP53 gene,resulting in overexpression of the mutant p53 *** most resistant subclone was enriched for genes related to epithelial to mesenchymal transition(EMT),resulting in increased migratory and invasive ***,these cells were enriched in genes related to inflammation,tissue remodelling,and ***,expression of several immune checkpoints,including PD-L1 and PD-L2,was significantly upregulated,and cisplatin-induced cell death was ***:Transcriptome analysis of a highly nutlin-3 resistant A549 subclone shows the relevance of studying(1)resistance to standard of care chemotherapy;(2)secretion of immunomodulating chemo-and cytokines;(3)immune checkpoint expression;and(4)EMT and invasion in nutlin-3 resistant cancer cells in addition to acquired mutations in the TP53 gene.

We describe a new karst-dwelling Cyrtodactylus from Ban Thathom, Xiangkhoang Province, northeastern Laos. The new species can be distinguished from other congeners by having four dark dorsal bands between limb insertions, a discontinuous nucha~ loop, 10 precloacal pores in males or 10-12 precloacal pits （females） separated by a diastema from a series of enlarged femoral scales bearing 18 or 19 pores （male） or 8-10 pits （females） along each femur, 14-18 dorsal tubercle rows at midbody, no precloacal groove, 30-36 midbody scale rows across belly between ventrolateral skin folds, transversely enlarged subcaudal plates, and a maximal known snout-vent length of 75.5 mm. Our description brings to 22 the number of Cyrtodactylus species recorded from Laos.

Linking a Game Engine Environment to Architectural Information on the Semantic Web

Because of the importance of graphics and information within the domain of architecture, engineering and construction （AEC）, an appropriate combination of visualization technology and information management technology is of utter importance in the development of appropriately supporting design and construction applications. Virtual environments, however, tend not to make this information available. The sparse number of applications that present additional information furthermore tend to limit their scope to pure construction information and do not incorporate information from loosely related knowledge domains, such as cultural heritage or architectural history information. We therefore started an investigation of two of the newest developments in these domains, namely game engine technology and semantic web technology. This paper documents part of this research, containing a review and comparison of the most prominent game engines and documenting our architectural semantic web. A short test-case illustrates how both can be combined to enhance information visualization for architectural design and construction.

AIM: To investigate the conformity of management practices of gastrointestinal hemorrhage in cirrhotic patients with relevant guidelines. METHODS: A questionnaire on the management of digestive bleeding was completed for all consecutive cirrhotic patients admitted to 31 French hospitals. RESULTS: One hundred and twenty-six bleeding events were recorded. It was the first bleeding episode in 79 patients (63%), of whom 40 (51%) had a prior diagnosis of cirrhosis and 25 (32%) had previously undergone an endoscopy. The bleeding episode was a recurrence in 46 patients (37%). The median time between onset and admission was 4 h, but exceeded 12 h in 42% of cases. There was an agreement between centers forearly vasoactive drug administration (87% of cases), association with ligation (42%) more often than sclerosis (21%) at initial endoscopy, and antibiotic prophylaxis (64%). By contrast, prescription of beta-blockade alone or in combination (0 to 100%, P = 0.003) for secondary prophylaxis and lactulose (26% to 86%, P = 0.04), differed among centers. CONCLUSION: In French hospitals, management of bleeding related to portal hypertension in cirrhotic patients is generally in keeping with the consensus. Broad variability still remains concerning beta-blockade use for secondary prophylaxis. Screening for esophageal varices, the use of antibiotic prophylaxis and patients information need to be improved.
