Background Advances in cancer treatments,particularly the development of radiation therapy,have led to improvements in survival outcomes in children with brain ***,radiation therapy is associated with significant long-term neurocognitive *** present systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the neurocognitive outcomes of children and adolescents with brain tumors treated with photon radiation(XRT)or proton therapy(PBRT).Methods A systematic search was conducted(PubMed,Embase,Cochrane,and Web of Science from inception until 02/01/2022)for studies comparing the neurocognitive outcomes of children and adolescents with brain tumors treated with XRT *** pooled mean differences(expressed as Z scores)were calculated using a random effects method for those endpoints analyzed by a minimum of three *** Totally 10 studies(n=630 patients,average age range:1–20 years)met the inclusion *** who had received PBRT achieved significantly higher scores(difference in Z scores ranging from 0.29–0.75,all P0.05 in main analyses or sensitivity analyses)were found for nonverbal memory,verbal working memory and working memory index,processing speed index,or focused *** Pediatric brain tumor patients who receive PBRT achieve significantly higher scores on most neurocognitive outcomes than those who receive *** studies with long-term follow-ups are needed to confirm these results.

Genome-wide association studies for inflorescence type and remontancy in Hydrangea macrophylla

Inflorescence type and remontancy are two valuable traits in bigleaf hydrangea(Hydrangea macrophylla L.)and both are recessively *** marker-assisted selection(MAS)can greatly reduce the time necessary to breed cultivars with desired *** this study,a genome-wide association study(GWAS)using 5803 single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)was performed using a panel of 82 bigleaf hydrangea *** SNP locus(Hy_CAPS_Inflo)associated with inflorescence type was identified with general linear model(GLM)and mixed linear model(MLM)methods that explained 65.5%and 36.1%of the phenotypic variations,***-three SNPs associated with remontancy were detected in GLM whereas no SNP was detected in *** SNP locus(Hy_CAPS_Inflo)was converted to a cleaved amplified polymorphic sequence(CAPS)marker that showed absolute identification accuracy(100%)of inflorescence type in a validation panel consisting of eighteen *** *** SNP was investigated in 341 F1 progenies using genotyping by sequencing(GBS)and co-segregated with inflorescence type(χ^(2)=0.12;P=0.73).The SNP was subsequently used for breeding selection using kompetitive allele specific PCR(KASP)*** directions for the use of genomics and MAS in hydrangea breeding improvement are *** results presented in this study provide insights for further research on understanding genetic mechanisms behind inflorescence type and remontancy in *** CAPS and KASP markers developed here will be immediately useful for applying MAS to accelerate breeding improvement in hydrangea.

Eating is a basic motivated behavior that provides fuel for the body and supports brain *** ensure survival,the brain’s feeding circuits are tuned to monitor peripheral energy balance and promote food-seeking behavior when energy stores are *** brain’s bias toward a positive energy state,which is necessary to ensure adequate nutrition during times of food scarcity,is evolutionarily conserved across mammalian species and is likely to drive overeating in the presence of a palatable,energy-dense *** models of diet-induced overeating have played a vital role in investigating how the drive to consume palatable food may override the homeostatic processes that serve to maintain energy *** animal models have provided valuable insights into the neurobiological mechanisms underlying homeostatic and non-homeostatic eating,motivation and food reward,and the development of obesity and related ***,we provide a brief review of this literature and discuss how diet-induced inflammation in the central nervous system impacts the neural control of food intake and regulation of body *** connection between diet and the immune system provides an exciting new direction for the study of ingestive behavior and the pathophysiology of obesity.

In this report we investigated two-dimensionally triptycene end-capped QPPs in terms of their solution and solid-state *** this purpose,a triphenylene based ortho-diamine decorated with two triptycenyl units as well as a phenylene diamine with two non-annulated triptycene units have been *** of condensation reactions with a pyrene-based tetraketone and ortho-diamines yielded a series of QPPs and UV/Vis investigations of the corresponding compounds led to the conclusion,that the QPPs form dimers in solution,which was further supported by ***-crystal X-ray analysis of the triply and quadruply triptycene end-capped QPPs furthermore showed shortπ-π-distances of 3.3-3.4?and a perfect shape match during the dimerization of the triply triptycenyl end-capped QPP making it possible synthon for crystal engineering.

Amount of polyhydramnios attributable to diabetes may be less than previously reported

AIM To evaluate the frequency and the quantity of polyhydramnios attributable to diabetes in *** The charts of patients with a four-quadrant amniotic fluid index(AFI) ≥ 20 cm and either a diagnosis of diabetes or a diabetes screening test during the index pregnancy were retrospectively reviewed. AFI was stratified into 5 categories and the frequency of diabetes was evaluated for each group. The frequency of polyhydramnios attributable to diabetes was compared to the frequency of polyhydramnios in the setting of fetal anomalies or no known cause. RESULTS One thousand five hundred and forty-five patients were included in the study. Eight point five percent(n = 131) had diabetes and no other cause for polyhydramnios. Eleven point two percent(173) had antenatally diagnosed anomalies. For all categories of AFI except the largest(> 40.9 cm) the most common cause of polyhydramnios was idiopathic. In patients with diabetes the AFI was most likely to be between 26 cm and 35.9 *** The rate of polyhydramnios in this study is 8.5%. Patients with diabetes most commonly have mild polyhydramnios between 26 and 35.9 cm of fluid on a four-quadrant AFI.

The Hydrangea genus belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family,in the cornales order of flowering plants,which early diverged among the Asterids,and includes several species that are commonly used ornamental *** them,Hydrangea macrophylla is one of the most valuable species in the nursery trade,yet few genomic resources are available for this crop or closely related Asterid *** high-quality haplotype-resolved reference genomes of hydrangea cultivars‘Veitchii’and‘Endless Summer’[highest quality at 2.22 gigabase pairs(Gb),396 contigs,N5022.8 megabase pairs(Mb)]were assembled and scaffolded into the expected 18 *** the newly developed high-quality reference genomes along with high-quality genomes of other related flowering plants,nuclear data were found to support a single divergence point in the Asterids clade where both the cornales and Ericales diverged from the *** mapping with an F1 hybrid population demonstrated the power of linkage mapping combined with the new genomic resources to identify the gene for inflorescence shape,CYP78A5 located on chromosome 4,and a novel gene,BAM3 located on chromosome 17,for causing double *** developed in this study will not only help to accelerate hydrangea genetic improvement but also contribute to understanding the largest group of flowering plants,the Asterids.

We present a formula approximating the mean escape time(MST)of a particle from a tilted multi-periodic potential *** potential function consists of a weighted sum of a finite number of component functions,each of which is *** this particular case,the least period of the potential function is a common period amongst all of its component *** approximation of the MST for the potential function is derived,and this approximation takes the form of a product of the MSTs for each of the individual periodic component *** first example illustrates the computational advantages of using the approximation for model validation and parameter tuning in the context of the biological application of DNA *** also use this formula to approximate the MST for an arbitrary tilted periodic potential by the product of MSTs of a finite number of its Fourier *** examples using truncated Fourier series are presented and analyzed.
