Obj.c.ive: To determine whether there is significant quality of life score improvement after uterine artery embolization (UAE)-and to compare UAE and myomectomy outcomes. Design: Prospective cohort controlled study. Setting: Sixteen medical centers in the United States. Patient(s): One hundred forty-nine UAE patients and 60 myomectomy patients. Patients were assigned to myomectomy or UAE on the basis of a best treatment decision made by the patient and her physician. All patients were observed for 6 months. The UAE patients also had follow up examinations at 1 year. Intervention(s): Myomectomy or *** Outcome Measure(s): Quality of life score changes, menstrual bleeding score changes, uterine size differences, time off, and adverse events. Result(s): Both groups experienced statistically significant improvements in the uterine fibroid quality of life score, menstrual bleeding, uterine volume, and overall postoperative quality of life. The mean hospital stay was 1 day for the UAE patients, compared with 2.5 days for the myomectomy patients. The UAE and myomectomy patients returned to their normal activities in 15 days and 44 days, respectively, and returned to work in 10 days and 37 days, respectively. At least one adverse event occurred in 40.1%of the myomectomy patients, compared with 22.1%in the UAE group. conclusion(s): The uterine fibroid quality of life score was significantly improved in both groups. No significant differences were observed in bleeding improvement, uterine volume reduction, uterine fibroid quality of life score improvement, and overall quality of life score improvement between groups. Patients receiving UAE required fewer days off work, fewer hospital days, and experienced fewer adverse events.

Electro-osmotic flow and heat transfer of a non-Newtonian fluid in a hydrophobic microchannel with Navier slip

In this paper, we investigate the implications of electro-osmosis on electrohydrodynamic transport of a non-Newtonian fluid on a hydrophobic micro-channel by developing a suitable analytical method. Velocity-slip and temperature-jump conditions are paid due attention. An attempt has been made to examine the effects of rheological and electro-osmotic parameters on the kinematics of the fluid. The nonlinear Poisson-Boltzmann equation governing the formation of the electrical double layer and the body force that is generated by the applied potential are accounted for in the study. Perturbation solutions are presented. In order to exhibit the applicability of the analysis, the problem of electro-osmotic flow and heat transfer of blood in an arteriole has been taken up as an illustrative example of a real-life problem. An intensive quantitative study has been made through numerical computation of the physical variables involved in the analysis, which are of special interest in the study. The computational results are presented graphically. The study reveals that the temperature of blood can be controlled by increasing/decreasing the joule heating parameter.

Gas Line Pressure Fluctuation Analysis of a Gas-Liquid Reactor

To ensure efficient operation of metallurgical gas-liquid reactors, the gas bubbles must be uniformly distributed. For high temperature metallurgical reactors, it is impractical and unsafe to carry out visual observations. An air-water model was used to study the relationship between the bubble flow patterns and the pressure fluctuation signals. The fluctuation signals captured in the time domain were transformed into the frequency domain. Various parameters obtained from the transformed data were analysed for their suitability for delineating the bubble flow patterns observed. These parameters and the flow patterns were found to be well-correlated using the gas flow number.

Axonal regeneration following surgical nerve repair is slow and often incomplete,resulting in poor functional recovery which sometimes contributes to lifelong ***,there are no FDA-approved therapies available to promote nerve *** accelerates axonal regeneration,but systemic side effects presently outweigh its potential benefits for peripheral nerve *** authors describe herein a biodegradable polyurethane-based drug delivery system for the sustained local release of tacrolimus at the nerve repair site,with suitable properties for scalable production and clinical application,aiming to promote nerve regeneration and functional recovery with minimal systemic drug *** is encapsulated into co-axially electrospun polycarbonate-urethane nanofibers to generate an implantable nerve wrap that releases therapeutic doses of bioactive tacrolimus over 31 *** and drug loading are adjustable for applications in small and large caliber nerves,and the wrap degrades within 120 days into biocompatible *** released from the nerve wrap promotes axon elongation in vitro and accelerates nerve regeneration and functional recovery in preclinical nerve repair models while off-target systemic drug exposure is reduced by 80%compared with systemic *** its surgical suitability and preclinical efficacy and safety,this system may provide a readily translatable approach to support axonal regeneration and recovery in patients undergoing nerve surgery.

Induced Morphisms Between Localization Genera of Groups

For a certain class of groups under a given finite group F, we define and compute genus groups, which coincide with the known genus groups in the case that F＇ is the trivial group. We prove the existence of various induced homomorphisms between genus groups. We discover an induced morphism arising from factoring out a finite normal subgroup.

Flow of a micropolar fluid in a micro-channel under the action of an alternating electric field: Estimates of flow in bio-fluidic devices

The paper is devoted to a study of the electro-osmotic flow of a micropolar bio-fluid, when the flow takes place between two plates that are in a state of periodic vibrations. considering blood as a micropolar fluid, it is found that the amplitude of oscillation of the microparticles of blood increases when the micropolar effect is pronounced more and more and that a rise in DebyeHtickel parameter enhances both the velocity and microrotation gradient. The results provide guidelines for the improvement of design of bio-sensing and micro-fluidic devices. The study leads to the conclusion that electrical double layers formed in the vicinity of the wall can significantly alter the flow dynamics of physiological fluids in micro-bio-fluidic devices.

Status and prospects for symmetric organic redox flow batteries

As environmental concerns from fossil fuel consumption intensify, large-scale energy storage becomes imperative for the integration of renewable sources like wind, hydro, and solar with the electrical *** flow batteries, particularly those employing organic molecules, are positioned as a key technology for this purpose. This review explores the growing field of symmetric organic redox flow batteries(ORFBs) within this context. Unlike traditional asymmetric designs based on unique active materials for each electrode, symmetric ORFBs involve a single bipolar species for both electrodes. This review highlights the benefits of a symmetric design, and categorizes five distinct classes of organic bipolar molecules used in both aqueous and non-aqueous solvents. By providing a comprehensive overview of their cell cycling and performance characteristics, the strengths and weaknesses of the diverse categories of bipolar molecules are highlighted for both solvent systems, as are opportunities for future development. This should guide new research directions and advance the development of practical symmetric ORFBs.

cLUSTERING PATENTS USING NON-EXHAUSTIVE OVERLAPS

Patent documents are unique external sources of information that reveal the core technology underlying new inventions. Patents also serve as a strategic data source that can be mined to discover state-of-the-art technical development and subsequently help guide R＆D investments. This research incorporates an ontology schema to extract and represent patent concepts. A clustering algorithm with non-exhaustive overlaps is proposed to overcome deficiencies with exhaustive clustering methods used in patent mining and technology discovery. The non-exhaustive clustering approach allows for the clustering of patent documents with overlapping technical findings and claims, a feature that enables the grouping of patents that define related key innovations. Legal advisors can use this approach to study potential cases of patent infringement or devise strategies to avoid litigation. The case study demonstrates the use of non-exhaustive overlaps algorithm by clustering US and japan radio frequency identification （RFID） patents and by analyzing the legal implications of automated discovery of patent infringement.

The trend towards miniaturization has increased dramatically over the last decade, especially within the fields concerned with bioengineering, microelectronics, and aerospace. Micromillin8 is among the principal manu- facturing processes which have allowed the development of components possessing micrometric dimensions, being used to the manufacture of both forming tools and the final product. The aim of this work is to present the principal aspects related to this technology, with emphasis on the work material requirements, tool ma- terials and geometry, cutting forces and temperature, quality of the finished product, process modelling and monitoring and machine tool requirements. It can be noticed that size effect possesses a relevant role with regard to the selection of both work material （grain size） and tooling （edge radius）. Low forces and temper- ature are recorded during micromillin8, however, the specific cutting force may reach high values because of the ploughing effect observed as the uncut chip thickness is reduced. Finally, burr formation is the principal concern with regard to the quality of the finished part.

With the aid of ANSYS software, the effect of different mould external part materials on magnetic flux density in the aluminum melt and magnetic field interaction of four coils applied with same currents were investigated. calculating results showed that magnetic flux density in the aluminum melt was greatly improved and the magnetic field interaction among different coils was decreased when external part of mould is made of soft magnetic material. Based on the finding, a four-strand low-frequency electromagnetic casting 6063 aluminum alloy experiment was carried out in the laboratory . The experiment showed that the surface of the billet was smooth and had no exudations and cold shuts, the as-cast microstructures were fine, uniform, equiaxed, net-globular or globular under low-frequency electromagnetic field. The microstructure becomes finer with increased current value.
