A nomogram to preoperatively predict 1-year disease-specific survival in resected pancreatic cancer following neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy

Objective: This study aimed to develop a nomogram to predict the 1-year survival of patients with pancreatic cancer who underwent pancreatectomy following neoadjuvant treatment with preoperatively detectable clinical parameters. Extended pancreatectomy is necessary to achieve complete tumor removal in borderline resectable and locally advanced pancreatic cancer. However, it increases postoperative morbidity and mortality rates, and should be balanced with potential benefit of long-term ***: The medical records of patients who underwent pancreatectomy following neoadjuvant treatment from January 2005 to December 2016 at Severance Hospital were retrospectively reviewed. Medical records were collected from five international institutions from Japan and Singapore for external ***: A total of 113 patients were enrolled. The nomogram for predicting 1-year disease-specific survival was created based on 5 clinically detectable preoperative parameters as follows: age(year), symptom(no/yes), tumor size at initial diagnostic stage(cm), preoperative serum carbohydrate antigen(CA) 19-9 level after neoadjuvant treatment(<34/≥34 U/m L), and planned surgery [pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD)(pylorus-preserving PD)/distal pancreatectomy(DP)/total pancreatectomy]. Model performance was assessed for discrimination and *** calibration plot showed good agreement between actual and predicted survival probabilities;the the Greenwood-Nam-D’Agostino(GND) goodness-of-fit test showed that the model was well calibrated(χ~2=8.24,P=0.5099). A total of 84 patients were used for external validation. Organic Rankine Cycle(ORC)is one of the solutions to utilize a low temperature geothermal fluid for power *** ORC system can be placed at the exit of the separator to extract energy from ***,one of the main components of the system and very important is the ***,in this research,the pump rotation is examined to investigate the effect on power output and energy efficiency for low temperature geothermal *** rotation is determined by using an inverter with the following frequencies:7.5,10,12.5,15 and 17.5 Hz,respectively.R-134 working fluid is employed with 373.15 K evaporator temperature in relation to the low temperature of the geothermal ***,the condenser temperature and fluid pressure were set up to 293.15 K and 5×10^(5) Pa,*** research uses a DC generator with a maximum power of 750 Watt and the piping system is made from copper alloy C12200 ASTM B280 with size 1.905×10^(−2) m and a thickness of 8×10^(−4) *** results showed that there is an increase in mass flow rate,enthalpy and generator power output along with increasing pump *** addition,it showed that the maximum generator output power was 377.31 Watt at the highest pump rotation with a frequency of 17.5 Hz.

One of the major problems faced in managing biomass waste to higher quality products is choosing the right *** are used as an alternative fuel,with increase in the calorific *** carbonization(HTC)is a biomass conversion technology,used to obtain solid *** study aims to utilize of Calophyllum inophyllum as an alternative solid fuel through *** calorific value and proximate of the hydrochar will be determined and analyzed to find out its *** experiments were carried out at temperature variations of 160℃,190℃,and 220℃ and holding times of 30 and 60 *** results show that an increase in temperature and holding time causes a decline in the moisture content 1.87%,volatile matter 54.03%,and ash content 12.35%,respectively,leading to elevations in the fixed carbon at 31.75%.In addition,the highest calorific value of 4149 Kcal/Kg was produced at a temperature of 220℃,within a holding time of 60 *** results showed a significant increase in the quality of solid fuels between 3500–4611 Kcal/Kg in accordance with the American Standard Testing and Materials(ASTM).Therefore,this research leads to an important finding that Calophyllum inophyllum waste through the HTC process can be used as an alternative fuel to substitute lignite coal,which is environmentally friendly.

Single-chamber sediment microbial fuel cells(SSMFCs) have received considerable attention nowadays because of their unique dual-functionality of power generation and enhancement of wastewater treatment performance. Thus, scaling up or upgrading SSMFCs for enhanced and efficient performance is a highly crucial task. Therefore, in order to achieve this goal, an innovative physical technique of using interface layers with four different pore sizes embedded in the middle of SSMFCs was utilized in this *** results showed that the performance of SSMFCs employing an interface layer was improved regardless of the pore size of the interface material, compared to those without such layers. The use of an interface layer resulted in a positive and significant effect on the performance of SSMFCs because of the effective prevention of oxygen diffusion from the cathode to the anode. Nevertheless, when a smaller pore size interface was utilized, better power performance and COD degradation were observed. A maximum power density of 0.032 mW/m^2 and COD degradation of 47.3% were obtained in the case of an interface pore size of 0.28 μm. The findings in this study are of significance to promote the future practical application of SSMFCs in wastewater treatment plants.

Accurate prediction of wind turbine power curve is essential for wind farm planning as it influences the expected power *** methods require detailed wind turbine geometry for performance evaluation,which most of the time unattainable and impractical in early stage of wind farm *** significant amount of work has been done on fitting of wind turbine power curve using parametric and non-parametric models,little to no attention has been paid for power curve modelling that relates the wind turbine design *** paper presents a novel method that employs artificial neural network to learn the underlying relationships between 6 turbine design parameters and its power curve.A total of 198 existing pitch-controlled and active stall-controlled horizontal-axis wind turbines have been used for model training and *** results showed that the method is reliable and reasonably accurate,with average R^(2)score of 0.9966.

Aircraft engine design is a complicated process,as it involves huge number of *** design process begins with parametric cycle *** is crucial to determine the optimum values of the cycle parameters that would give a robust design in the early phase of engine development,to shorten the design cycle for cost saving and man-hour *** obtain a robust solution,optimisation program is often being executed more than once,especially in Reliability Based Design Optimisations(RBDO)with Monte-Carlo Simulation(MCS)scheme for complex systems which require thousands to millions of optimisation loops to be *** paper presents a fast heuristic technique to optimise the thermodynamic cycle of two-spool separated flow turbofan engines based on energy and probability of failure criteria based on Luus-Jaakola algorithm(LJ).A computer program called Turbo Jet Engine Optimiser v2.0(TJEO-2.0)has been developed to perform the optimisation *** program is made up of inner and outer loops,where LJ is used in the outer loop to determine the design variables while parametric cycle analysis of the engine is done in the inner loop to determine the engine ***-Hypercube-Sampling(LHS)technique is used to sample the design and model variations for uncertainty *** results show that optimisation without reliability criteria may lead to high probability of failure of more than 11%on *** thrust obtained with uncertainty quantification was about 25%higher than the one without uncertainty quantification,at the expense of less than 3%of fuel *** proposed algorithm can solve the turbofan RBDO problem within 3 min.

BACKGROUND The high prevalence of human papillomavirus(HPV)infection in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma(SCC)is well established,and p16 expression is a strong ***-related tumors exhibit unique mechanisms that target p16 and p53 ***,research on HPV prevalence and the combined predictive value of p16 and p53 expression in head and neck cutaneous SCC(HNCSCC),particularly in Asian populations,remains *** retrospective study surveyed 62 patients with HNSCC(2011-2020),excluding those with facial warts or other skin *** To explore the prevalence of HPV and the predictive value of p16 and p53 expression in HNCSCC in Asian *** All patients underwent wide excision and *** staining for HPV,p16,and p53 yielded positive and negative *** relevance of each marker was investigated by categorizing the tumor locations into high-risk and middle-risk zones based on recurrence *** Of the 62 patients,20(32.26%)were male,with an average age of 82.27 years(range 26-103 years).High-risk included 19 cases(30.65%),with the eyelid and lip being the most common sites(five cases,8.06%).Middle-risk included 43 cases(69.35%),with the cheek being the most common(29 cases,46.77%).The p16 expression was detected in 24 patients(38.71%),p53 expression in 42 patients(72.58%),and HPV in five patients(8.06%).No significant association was found between p16 expression and the presence of HPV(P>0.99),with a positive predictive value of 8.33%.CONCLUSION This study revealed that p16,a surrogate HPV marker in oropharyngeal SCC,is not reliable in HNCSCC,providing valuable insights for further research in Asian populations.
