Three binuclear rare earth based complexes combining RE ions with semirigid tricarboxylic ligand(H_(3)L).namely,[RE_(2)(L)_(2)(DMF)_(4)][RE=Gd,Tb,and Dy;H_(3)L=5-((4-Carboxybenzyl)oxy)isophthalic acid;DMF=N,N-dimethylformamide]complexes,were fabricated success fully.The RE_(2)(L)_(2)(DMF)_(4) co mplexe s consist of two central RE ions with the same coordination environment which were connected by two tridentate bridging carboxylic groups and two syn-syn bidentate bridging carboxylic groups originating from the L^(3-)ligands to form the{RE_(2)}dimeric unit,and thus provides the basis for further constructing a dense three-dimensional(3 D)network structure.Moreover,the present RE_(2)(L)_(2)(DMF)_(4) complexes can be described by a topology diagram with the topology point symbol of{4^(2)·6}_(2){4^(4)·6^(2)·8^(7)·10^(2)}.Weak antiferromagnetic(AFM)coupling between the adjacent RE ions for all the present complexes was found according to the magnetic calculations.The observed significant cryogenic magnetocaloric effect(MCE)with the maximum magnetic entropy change-ΔS_(M)^(max) to be 26.3 J/(kg·K)withΔH=7 T in Gd_(2)(L)_(2)(DMF)_(4) complex makes it competitive for the cryogenic magnetic refrigerant.Moreover,the slow magnetic relaxation behavior at 0.2 T dc field with an obvious large U_(eff)/k=45(4)K and τ_(0)=6.5(2)×10^(-10)s was confirmed in Dy_(2)(L)_(2)(DMF)_(4)complex.This work not only provides an effective strategy for obtaining molecular materials with high MCE,but also confirms that tricarboxylate ligands are the ideal choice for constructing stable high dimensional geometric structures.

Long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs)act as key regulators controlling complex cellular behaviors in nonsmall cell lung cancer(NSCLC).We investigated the expression of lncRNA PRRT3 antisense RNA 1(PRRT3-AS1)in paired samples of NSCLC and adjacent normal tissues from a patient cohort in our hospital using real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)and found that it was signiﬁcantly higher in NSCLC tissue than in normal tissue,consistent with The Cancer Genome Atlas database.Furthermore,functional investigation revealed that lncRNA PRRT3-AS1 depletion inhibited NSCLC-cell proliferation,colony formation,invasion,and migration,whereas its overexpression exerted the opposite effects.Moreover,PRRT3-AS1 knockdown suppressed in vivo NSCLC growth.Investigation of downstream mechanisms using RNA immunoprecipitation and luciferase reporter assay revealed that lncRNA PRRT3-AS1 acted as a competing endogenous RNA by adsorbing microRNA-507(miR-507)and enhanced the expression of its target gene,homeobox B5(HOXB5),in NSCLC.Furthermore,miR-507 downregulation or HOXB5 upregulation eliminated the cancer-inhibiting effects of lncRNA PRRT3-AS1 depletion in NSCLC cells.To conclude,the lncRNA PRRT3-AS1/miR-507/HOXB5 pathway acts as a promoter of malignant characteristics in NSCLC,and this newly identiﬁed competing endogenous RNA pathway may be an effective diagnostic,prognostic,and therapeutic target in NSCLC.

Post-liquefaction shearing behaviour of saturated gravelly soils: Experimental study and discrete element simulation

To investigate the post-liquefaction shearing behaviour of saturated gravelly soil,laboratory tests were conducted using a staticedynamic multi-purpose triaxial apparatus.In addition,numerical simulations using the discrete element method(DEM)were performed to preliminarily understand the micromechanism of gravelly soil in monotonic loading after liquefaction.The influences of dry density,initial confining stress and degree of liquefaction on the post-liquefaction shearing behaviour of gravelly soil were discussed,and the evolution of the micro-parameters of the granular system was also analysed.The results show that the stressestrain responses of gravelly soil after liquefaction can be divided into three stages:(1)low strength stage,(2)super-linear strength recovery stage,and(3)sublinear strength recovery stage,which are distinctly different from those of the general saturated gravelly soil without previous cyclic loading.The initial state and prior dynamic stress history have significant influences on the post-liquefaction shearing behaviour of gravelly soil.The DEM simulation revealed that the average coordination number sharply increases,the contact normal shows an obvious orientation distribution,and the destroyed force chain backbones are reconstructed in the monotonic reloading process after liquefaction.The evolution of the micro-parameters of the granular system clearly reflects the interior interaction process and micro-mechanisms in the particles during the three different stages of the macro-mechanical behaviour of gravelly soil.

NORK and soybean acyl carrier protein(ACP) both play important roles in nodulation.However,the relationship between Nod factor signaling and fatty acid(FA) biosynthesis during symbiotic development is unknown.In this study,an RNAi plasmid of Gm NORK was constructed and transformed into soybean roots by Agrobacterium rhizogene-mediated hairy-root transformation.The nodule number decreased substantially in Gm NORK knockdown soybean transgenic roots.To investigate the relationship between Gm ACP and Nod factor signaling,we measured Gm ACP expression levels in Gm NORK RNAi soybean transgenic roots and found that rhizobia inoculation led to substantially reduced Gm ACP expression.Thus,FA biosynthesis was affected by Nod factor signaling during nodule development in soybean,a finding that provides valuable information that improves our understanding of the functions of Gm NORK and Gm ACP in symbiotic signaling and nodule development.

Instabilities of shallow gas-charged seabed are potential geological hazards in ocean engineering.In practice,the conventional field sampling techniques failed to obtain undisturbed gas-bearing sediments from the seabed for laboratory mechanical testing because of sensitive gas exsolution and escape from sediments.However,preparation of representative remoulded gas-charged specimens is a challenging issue,because it is rather difficult to quantitatively control the gas content and obtain uniform distribution of gas bubbles within the specimen.Given the above problems,this work proposes a reliable approach to reconstitute the high-saturation specimen of gas-charged sediments in the laboratory by an improved multifunction integrated triaxial apparatus(MITA).This apparatus is developed based on an advanced stress path triaxial system by introducing a temperature-controlled system and a wavemonitoring system.The temperature-controlled system is used to accurately mimic the in situ environments of sediments in the seabed.The wave-monitoring system is utilized to identify exsolution point of free gas and examine the disturbance of gas to specimens during gas exsolution.The detailed procedure of gassy specimen preparation is introduced.Then,the quality of prepared specimens using our improved apparatus is validated by the high-resolution micro-X-ray computed tomography(mCT)scanning test,from which bubble occurrence and size distribution within the gassy sand specimen can be obtained;and preliminary mechanical tests on gassy sand specimens with various initial saturation degrees are performed.The proposed specimen preparation procedure succeeds in proving the postulated occurrence state of gas bubbles in coarse-grained sediments and accurately controlling the gas content.

In organic solar cells(OSCs), the material design on photovoltaic layers and interlayers has significantly contributed to the rapid progress of the device performance. Perylene-diimides(PDIs), owing to their distinct advantages of high electron affinity, high electron mobility and facial chemical modification, are being widely studied in OSCs, especially designed as photovoltaic acceptors and cathode interlayers. In this review, recent progress on those PDI derived photovoltaic materials is systematically summarized. Due to the different working mechanism in devices, the design strategies on modification of the parent PDI units towards their application as acceptors and cathode interlayers are explained. After disclosing the fundamental structure-property relationships, we disclose some common features in the design of those tailor-made PDI-based photovoltaic materials, and we also highlight the challenges and opportunities in improving their device performance in the future.

Hemihydrate calcium sulfate whiskers(HH-CSWs)were hydrothermally synthesized in a sulfuric acid solution at 120℃ for different holding times(20,40,and 60 min).The phase structures and morphologies were characterized by XRD and SEM,respectively.The XRD pattern of the sample under 60 min was refined via the Rietveld fitting method.The structure models of the HH-CSW sample under a 60-min holding time was established based on Rietveld fitting results.No difference in the positions of diffraction peaks was determined.The as-prepared holding time increased the intensity and aspect ratio of the diffraction peaks of both samples.In the prepared HH-CSW structure,Ca-O polyhedron is a 12-sided polyhedron similar to that in the gypsum structure;the Ca atom is located in two positions in the one-unit cell;the H_(2)O channel along the c-axis similar is O-shaped and bigger than that in hexagonal and monoclinic CaSO_(4)·0.5H_(2)O structures.Therefore,although the prepared HH-CSW crystals’structure are similar to that of the reported hexagonal and monoclinic CaSO_(4)·0.5H_(2)O structures,they are not the same.The formation mechanism of HH-CSW from flue gas desulfurization(FGD)gypsum is discussed based on the analysis of gypsum structure.

Organic room temperature phosphorescent(ORTP)materials provide an exciting research direction for phosphorescent oxygen(O_(2)) sensors due to their high sensitivity and rapid response to O_(2).However,most pure ORTP materials are tightly-packed aromatic compound crystals in a face-to-face manner,which largely prohibits effective O_(2) diffusion for sensing.Thus,how to solve this contradiction still faces huge challenges.Here,the use of organic phosphorescent indicator carbon dots(CDs),inorganic matrix layered double hydroxides(LDHs)and polymers(PVA)successfully prepared an ultra-long RTP composite film whose phosphorescence decay intensity is linearly related to O_(2) concentration.More importantly,the use of the abundant O_(2) defects(Vo)on the surface of the inorganic matrix LDHs to adsorb O_(2),which further accelerates the phosphorescence quenching of the thin film and improves the O_(2) response.This strategy will provide the possibility to develop high-sensitivity phosphorescent O_(2) sensors from a new perspective.

Effects of sample dimensions and shapes on measuring soil-water characteristic curves using pressure plate

It is well known that soilewater characteristic curve （SWCC） plays an important role in unsaturated soil mechanics, but the measurement of SWCC is inconvenient. In laboratory it requires days of testing time. For fine-grained clays, it may last for a couple of months using pressure plate tests. In this study, the effects of sample dimensions and shapes on the balance time of measuring SWCCs using pressure plate tests and the shape of SWCCs are investigated. It can be found that the sample dimensions and shapes have apparent influence on the balance time. The testing durations for circular samples with smaller diameters and annular samples with larger contact area are significantly shortened. However, there is little effect of sample dimensions and shapes on the shape of SWCCs. Its mechanism is explored and discussed in details through analysing the principle of pressure plate tests and microstructure of the sample. Based on the above findings, it is found that the circular samples with smaller dimensions can accelerate the testing duration of SWCC using the pressure plate.
