Characterization of aerosol optical properties, chemical composition and mixing states in the winter season in Shanghai, China

Physical and chemical properties of ambient aerosols at the single particle level were studied in Shanghai from December 22 to 28, 2009. A Cavity-Ring-Down Aerosol Extinction Spectrometer（CRD-AES） and a nephelometer were deployed to measure aerosol light extinction and scattering properties, respectively. An Aerosol Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer（ATOFMS）was used to detect single particle sizes and chemical composition. Seven particle types were detected. Air parcels arrived at the sampling site from the vicinity of Shanghai until mid-day of December 25, when they started to originate from North China. The aerosol extinction,scattering, and absorption coefficients all dropped sharply when this cold, clean air *** particles changed from a highly aged type before this meteorological shift to a relatively fresh type afterwards. The aerosol optical properties were dependent on the wind *** with high extinction coefficient and scattering Angstrom exponent（SAE） were observed when the wind blew from the west and northwest, indicating that they were predominantly fine particles. Nitrate and ammonium correlated most strongly with the change in aerosol optical properties. In the elemental carbon/organic carbon（ECOC） particle type, the diurnal trends of single scattering albedo（SSA） and elemental carbon（EC） signal intensity had a negative correlation. We also found a negative correlation（r =-0.87） between high mass-OC particle number fraction and the SSA in a relatively clean period, suggesting that particulate aromatic components might play an important role in light absorption in urban areas.

BACKGROUND Light chain(AL)amyloidosis is a plasma cell dyscrasia characterized by the pathologic production and extracellular tissue deposition of fibrillar proteins derived from immunoglobulin AL fragments secreted by a clone of plasma cells,which leads to progressive dysfunction of the affected *** two most commonly affected organs are the heart and kidneys,and liver is rarely the dominant affected organ with only 3.9%of cases,making them prone to misdia-gnosis and missed *** SUMMARY A 65-year-old woman was admitted with a 3-mo history of progressive jaundice and marked ***,based on enhanced computed tomography scan and angiography,Budd-Chiari syndrome was considered and balloon dilatation of significant hepatic vein stenoses was ***,addi-tional diagnostic procedures,including liver biopsy and bone marrow-exami-nation,revealed immunoglobulin kapa AL amyloidosis with extensive liver involvement and hepatic vascular *** disease course was progre-ssive and fatal,and the patient eventually died 5 mo after initial presentation of *** AL amyloidosis with isolated liver involvement is very rare,and can be easily misdiagnosed as a vascular disease.

In consideration of the uncertain and time-varying driving resistance in vehicle dynamics,a distributed adaptive sliding model control protocol is proposed in vehicle platoon ***,the vehicle resistance,which is relevant to vehicle mass,weather conditions,deadweight,motorcycle type and etc,is analyzed and the vehicle platoon model is ***,a coupled sliding mode surface is designed to link the inter-connected vehicles and an adaptive control method is adopted to identify and estimate the variations of resistance *** that,a distributed adaptive sliding mode control algorithm for vehicle platoon with uncertain driving resistance is proposed,which realizes the stable vehicle platoon in the presence of uncertain and time-varying driving *** feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control laws is validated by numerical simulations.

Fluorescein angiography(FA)is a standard imaging modality for evaluating vascular abnormalities in retina-related diseases,which is recognized as the major cause of vision ***-term and real-time fundus angiography is of great importance in preclinical research,nevertheless remaining big challenges up to *** this study,we demonstrate that long-term fluorescence imaging of retinal vessels is enabled through a kind of fluorescent nanoagents,which is made of small-sized(hydrodynamic diameter:∼3 nm)silicon nanoparticles(SiNPs)featuring strong fluorescence,robust photostability,lengthened blood residency and negligible *** particular,the presented SiNPs-based nanoagents are capable of imaging retinal capillaries in∼10 min,which is around 10-fold longer than that(∼1 min)of fluorescein sodium(FS,known as the most widely used contrast agents for FA in clinic).Taking cynomolgus macaques as non-human primate-animal model,we further demonstrate the feasibility of real-time diagnosis of retinal diseases(e.g.,age-related macular degeneration(AMD))through dynamic monitoring of vascular dysfunction.

The effect of tempering temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ultra-high strength, copperbearing, low-carbon bainitic steel has been investigated in the experiment. The results showed that the microstructure was mainly the laths of bainite in the as-quenched steel. The bainitic laths were restored and combined after the steel tempered at various tempera- tures. There were rnartensite/austenite （M/A） islands and numerous dislocations within and between the bainitic laths, while very t-me precipitates of ε-Cu were also observed within the laths. With increasing the tempered temperature from 400 to 600℃, the yield strength （YS） increased from 877 to 957 MPa, whereas the ultimate tensile strength （UTS） decreased from 1020 to 985 MPa. The Charpy V-notch （CVN） varied from 68.5 to 42 J, and the value was minimal for the steel tempered at 500℃. 2008 University of Science and Technology Beijing. All rights reserved.

The oxidation induration and reduction swelling behavior of chromium-bearing vanadium titanomagnetite pellets(CVTP)with Cr2O3 addition were studied,and the reduction swelling index(RSI)and compressive strength(CS)of the reduced CVTP with simulated coke oven gas(COG)injection were *** results showed that the CS of the CVTP decreases and the porosity of the CVTP increases with increasing amount of Cr2O3 *** Cr2O3 mainly exists in the form of(Cr,Fe)2O3 solid solution in the CVTP and as Fe-Cr in the reduced *** CS of the reduced CVTP increases and the RSI of the reduced CVTP decreases with increasing amount of Cr2O3 *** limited aggregation and diffusion of metallic iron contribute to the formation of dense lamellar crystals,which leads to the slight decrease for reduction swelling behavior of reduced *** work provides a theoretical and technical basis for the utilization of CVTP and other Cr-bearing ores such as chromite with COG recycling technology.

Many researchers have focused their efforts on fatigue failures occurring on weld toes. In recent years, more and more fatigue failures occur on weld roots. Therefore, it is important to explore the behaviour of weld root fatigues. This paper investigates numerically the Magnification factors （Mk） for types of semi-elliptical cracks on the weld root of a T-butt joint. The geometry of the joint is determined by four important parameters： crack depth ratio, crack shape ratio, weld leg ratio and weld angle. A singular element approach is used to generate the corresponding finite element meshes. For each set of given four parameters of the semi-elliptical root crack, the corresponding T-butt joint is numerically simulated and its Mk at the deepest point of the weld root crack is obtained for the respective tension and shear loads. The variation range of the four parameters covers 750 cases for each load, totaling 1500 simulations are completed. The numerical results obtained are then represented by the curve to explore the effects of four parameters on the Mk. To obtain an approximate equation representing Mk as a function of the four parameters for each load, a multiple regression method is adopted and the related regression analysis is performed. The error distributions of the two approximate equations are compared with the finite element data. It is confirmed that the obtained approximate functions fit very well to the database from which they are derived. Therefore, these two equations present a valuable reference for engineering applications in T-butt joint designs.

With the development of power electronic technologies and distributed power generation,DC distribution networks attract increasing attention due to their various advantages compared with traditional AC distribution ***,DC fault protection is one of the major issues in DC distribution *** improve their reliability and protect the semiconductor devices under DC faults,a current-limiting and energy-transferring DC circuit breaker topology is proposed in this *** applying passive components and thyristors,the proposed topology is capable of quickly limiting the fault current and transferring the faulty *** working principle,mathematical model and parameter designing method of the proposed topology are presented in this *** simulation results verify that the proposed DC circuit breaker could effectively limit the fault current and quickly interrupt the fault *** and conduction power loss evaluation proves the practicality of the proposed topology in medium-voltage DC distribution networks.
