Factors influencing spiritual wellbeing among pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients receiving chemotherapy

Therapeutic effects of glucosides of Cheanomeles speciosa on collagen-induced arthritis in mice

AIM: To investigate the therapeutic effect of the glucosides of Cheanomeles speciosa (GCS) on the collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in mice. METHODS: Mice were divided randomly into six groups, including normal, CIA, CIA+GCS (60, 120, and 240 mg/kg) and CIA+glucosides of Tripterygium wilfordii (GTW) groups. CIA model was based on mice. The effect of GCS in CIA mice was measured by paw-swelling, arthritis scores, and histo-pathological assessment of synovium. Indices of thymus and spleens were measured. Thymocytes and splenocytes proliferation, activity of interleukin-1 (IL-1), and interleukin-2 (IL-2) were assayed by MTT and [3H]TdR method. The level of anti-collagen type Ⅱ (CII) antibody in serum and prostaglandin E (PGE) in ankle were assayed by ELISA and ultraviolet spectrophotometer method, respectively. Cross-talk between MEK1/2-ERK1/2 signaling and G protein-couple signaling in synoviocytes of collagen-induced arthritis rats

Background Signaling pathways that regulate the production of cytokines and destructive enzymes have been implicated in rheumatoid arthritis （RA） pathogenesis. There are co-relations between signaling pathways. The aim of this study was to investigate interactions and cross-talks between MEK1/2-extracellular signal-related kinase （ERK1/2） signaling and G protein-couple signaling in synoviocytes of collagen-induced arthritis （CIA） rats by the stimulation of interleukin-1 （IL-1）, U0126, isoprenaline hydrochloride and aminophyline respectively. Methods Twenty Sprague-Dawley （SD） rats were induced by chicken type II collagen. Synoviocytes of CIA rats were isolated and cultured. The expressions of Gi, phosphorylated MEK1/2 （p-MEK1/2） and phosphorylated ERK1/2 （p-ERK1/2） were detected by Western blotting, cAMP level and protein kinase A （PKA） activity were measured by radioimmunoassay and kinase-glo luminescent kinase assay respectively. Results There was remarkable inflammation in CIA rats accompanied by swelling paws, hyperplastic synovium, pannus and cartilage erosion, cAMP level and PKA activity of synoviocytes decreased. Gi, p-ERK1/2 and p-MEK1/2 increased, rlL-la improved the expression of Gi, p-ERK1/2 and p-MEK1/2, cAMP and PKA increased with stimulation of rlL-1α. U0126 inhibited Gi, cAMP and PKA of synoviocytes stimulated by rlL-la. Isoprenaline hydrochloride enhanced Gi, cAMP and PKA, but had no effects on p-MEK1/2 and p-ERK1/2. Aminophyline increased cAMP and PKA, but inhibited p-MEK1/2 and p-ERK1/2. Conclusions Mitogen-activated protein kinases （MAPKs） and G protein-couple signaling are associated with synovitis. There are cross talks between MAPKs and G protein-couple signaling. The two signaling pathways represent potential therapeutic targets for RA.

Use of forestry waste as an alternative raw material for generating metallurgical coke

Forestry waste(FW)is a significant renewable energy source in *** substitution of coal blends(BC)with forestry waste to produce metallurgical coke was investigated aiming at expanding alternative resources and reducing CO_(2)emissions in ironmaking *** BC with different ratios of FW were carbonized in a fixed bed reactor,and the physicochemical structure of the coke derived from FW/BC co-carbonization was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,solid-state^(13)C nuclear magnetic resonance,optical microscopy,and scanning electron *** results reveal that the suitable incorporation of FW in BC is 10 wt.%,and the index of coke quality exhibits a good correlation with the optical anisotropy index and the aromaticity of the as-obtained *** partial substitution of BC with FW exhibits potential benefits for colloid formation,owing to the higher hydrogen in ***,as the substitution ratio of BC with FW increases,it inhibits coke agglomeration due to more tortuous stacked structures formation during volatile releasing ***,it was identified that the substitution of higher BC ratios with FW results in the partial replacement of aromatic carbons by oxygenlinked carbons and aliphatic *** substitution leads to a reduction in the aromaticity of the as-obtained coke.

Clinical Outcome of Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Infusion via Hepatic Artery or Portal Vein in Patients with End-stage Liver Diseases

Objective To investigate the efficacy of hematopoietic stem cell （HSC） transplantation via the hepatic artery vs. the portal vein for end-stage liver disease （ESLD）. Methods Patients with hepatic decompensation were prospectively recruited from September 2010 to September 2012 to receive HSC transplantation via the hepatic artery or the portal vein. Liver function was examined at 3, 6, and 12 months after transplantation. Liver biopsy results were analyzed using the Knodell score. Results Eighty patients （58 males and 22 females） were enrolled in the study. The Child-Pugh score was grade B in 69 cases, and grade C in the remaining 11 cases. HSC transplantation was performed via the portal vein in 36 patients and via the hepatic artery in 44 patients. ALT levels decreased while serum albumin levels increased significantly in both groups at 6 and 12 months after HSC transplantation （P〈0.05 compared with pre-transplantation levels）. Total biliruhin levels decreased significandy in both groups at 3, 6, and 12 months after HSC transplantation （P〈0.05 compared with pre-transplantation levels）. Additionally, prothromhin time decreased in both groups at 12 months after HSC transplantation （P〈0.05 compared with pre-transplantation level）. There were no significant differences in ALT, total bilirubin and prothromhin time between the two groups either before or after transplantation. Moreover, Knodell score decreased significantly at 6 and 12 months. Histological examination showed that liver cell edema, degeneration, necrosis, and inflammation were significantly relieved at 3, 6, and 12 months after transplantation. The incidence of portal vein thrombosis, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and hepatic encephalopathy were 1.25%, 3.75%, and 2.5% respectively. The one-year survival rate was 100%. High-dimensional large-scale mixed-type data imputation under missing at random

Missingness in mixed-type variables is commonly encountered in a variety of areas. The requirement of complete observations necessities data imputation when a moderate or large proportion of data is ***, inappropriate imputation would downgrade the performance of machine learning algorithms, leading to bad predictions and unreliable statistical inference. For high-dimensional large-scale mixed-type missing data, we develop a computationally efficient imputation method, missing value imputation via generalized factor models（MIG）, under missing at random. The proposed MIG method allows missing variables to be of different types,including continuous, binary, and count variables, and are scalable to both data size n and variable dimension p while existing imputation methods rely on restrictive assumptions such as the same type of missing variables,the low dimensionality of variables, and a limited sample size. We explicitly show that the imputation error of the proposed MIG method diminishes to zero with the rate Op(max{n-1/2, p-1/2}) as both n and p tend to infinity. Five real datasets demonstrate the superior empirical performance of the proposed MIG method over existing methods that the average normalized absolute imputation error is reduced by 5.3%–34.1%.

Altered nuclear factor-kappaB inducing kinase expression in insulin-resistant mice

Background Insulin resistance is an underlying feature of both type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Currently, it is unclear whether nuclear factor （NF）-KB inducing kinase （NIK） plays a role in the development of insulin resistance. The present in vivo study investigated the roles of NIK and IKB kinase a （IKKa） in obesity-induced insulin resistance using animal models. Methods NIK expression was evaluated by Western blotting in male Lepob mice and C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat diet （HFD）（45% fat）. After metformin and sulfasalazine treatment, NIK expression was investigated during the improvement of insulin resistance. Results NIK was increased by about 1-fold in the renal tissues of Lepab mice and C57BL/6J mice fed a HFD for 12 weeks. After 1 and 3 weeks of high-fat feeding, we observed an almost 50% decrease in NIK and IKKa expression in the liver and renal tissues of C57BL/6J mice. NIK expression was significantly lower in the liver and renal tissues of HFD-fed mice that were treated with insulin sensitizers, metformin and sulfasalazine. However, IKKa expression was increased after metformin treatment in both tissues. Conclusion These results suggest a possible role of NIK in the liver and renal tissues of insulin-resistant mice.

乙酸是变压器油纸绝缘老化所生成酸类物质的主要成分;分析变压器油中溶解乙酸含量对准确评估运行变压器的老化状态具有重要意义。拉曼光谱技术是基于拉曼效应的一种分子分析技术,能很好地用于物质的非接触式原位检测。论文开展了变压器油中溶解乙酸含量拉曼光谱检测方法研究:利用Gaussian09W软件分析了乙酸分子的拉曼振动特性,对实测乙酸拉曼谱峰的振动模式进行了指认;基于实验室搭建的激光拉曼光谱液体检测平台,对不同乙酸含量的变压器油样进行了原位检测;选定891cm^(-1)作为变压器油中溶解乙酸分子的拉曼特征峰,基于乙酸891cm^(-1)与变压器油932cm^(-1)特征峰面积比值和最小二乘法建立了乙酸的定量分析方法,检测限可达0.08mg·mL^(-1)。实验结果表明:激光拉曼光谱可应用于油中溶解乙酸含量原位检测并具有良好的检测稳定性和重复性,为变压器油中溶解乙酸含量的快速、无损检测提供了一种新方法。
