The microstructural, optical, and magnetic properties and room-temperature photoluminescence （PL） ofMn-doped ZnO thin films were studied. The chemical compositions were examined by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDS） and the charge state of Mn ions in the ZnO：Mn films was characterized by X-ray photoelectronic spectrometry （XPS）. From the X-ray diffraction （XRD） data of the samples, it can be found that Mn doping does not change the orientation of ZnO thin films. All the films prepared have a wurtzite structure and grow mainly along the c-axis orientation. The grain size and the residual stress were calculated from the XRD results. The optical transmittance of the film decreases with the increase of manganese content in ZnO. The room-temperature photoluminescence of the films shows that the in- tensity of near band energy （NBE） emission depends strongly on the Mn content. The hysteresis behavior indicates that the films with the Mn content below 9at% are ferromagnetic at room temperature.

The elucidation of a natural strategy for metal hyperaccumulation enables the rational design of technologies for the clean-up of metal-contaminated *** acid has been suggested to be involved in toxic metallic element tolerance,translocation,and accumulation in *** impact of exogenous organic acids on cadmium(Cd) uptake and translocation in the zinc(Zn)/Cd co-hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii was investigated in the present *** the addition of organic acids,short-term(2 h) root uptake of 109 Cd increased significantly,and higher 109 Cd contents in roots and shoots were noted 24 h after uptake,when compared to *** 85% of the 109 Cd taken up was distributed to the shoots in plants with citric acid(CA) treatments,as compared with 75% within *** such effect was observed for tartaric acid(TA).Reduced growth under Cd stress was significantly alleviated by low ***-term application of the two organic acids both resulted in elevated Cd in plants,but the effects varied with exposure time and *** results imply that CA may be involved in the processes of Cd uptake,translocation and tolerance in ***,whereas the impact of TA is mainly on the root uptake of Cd.

Sedum alfredii Hance has been identified as zinc(Zn) and cadmium(Cd) *** this paper the relationships of Zn or Cd hyperaccumulation to the generation and the role of H2O2 in Sedum alfredii *** *** results show that Zn and Cd contents in the shoots of Sedum alfredii *** with 1000 μmol/L Zn2+ and/or 200 μmol/L Cd2+ increased linearly within 15 *** of total S,glutathione(GSH) and H2O2 in shoots also increased within 15 d,and then *** S and GSH contents in shoots were higher under Cd2+ treatment than under Zn2+ ***,reverse trends of H2O2 content in shoots were obtained,in which much higher H2O2 content was observed in Zn2+-treated shoots than in Cd2+-treated ***,the microscopic imaging of H2O2 accumulation in leaves using H2O2 probe technique showed that much higher H2O2 accumulation was observed in the Zn2+-treated leaf than in the Cd2+-treated *** results suggest that there are different responses in the generation of H2O2 upon exposure to Zn2+ and Cd2+ for the hyperaccumulator Sedum alfredii *** this is the first report that the generation of H2O2 may play an important role in Zn hyperaccumulation in the *** results also imply that GSH may play an important role in the detoxification of dissociated Zn/Cd and the generation of H2O2.

Improved circulation in ocular ischemic syndrome after carotid artery stenting

Ocular ischemic syndrome is a chronic ischemic eye disease including a series of ischemic ocular and brain syndromes caused by carotid artery occlusion or stenosis. Because of the different degrees of ischemia, clinical manifestations of ocular ischemic syndrome are diverse, and it is difficult to diagnose in the initial stage. The main strategy to treat ocular ischemic syndrome is elimination of carotid stenosis. We presented a patient who recovered dramatically after carotid artery stenting. The pre-stenting arm-retinal circulation time of the patient＇s left eye was prolonged, and a large amount of microaneurysm appeared at the posterior polar and mid-peripheral aspects of the left retina. The post-stenting arm-retinal circulation time of the left eve decreased to 16.3 seconds, and the microaneurvsm almost disappeared.

Near-infrared imaging can be used to reconstruct tissue optical properties from measurements of light propagation through tissue. But a single static image alone does not reveal much information about abnormal vascularization because light beams are heavily scattered and diffused by tissues, resulting in very low spatial resolution. If changes caused by re-distribution of blood volume and oxygenation level are detected, more pathophysiologic information will be revealed. The goal of this work is to understand how the pressure that is applied to the surface affects the composition of the tissue and illustrate that the pressure-induced changes are significant and that are likely dependent on the tissue composition. In this paper, we propose a novel method to make continue-wave light illuminate the vivo tissue with external pressure, using the CCD camera to acquire sequential dynamic images during the whole course. The dynamic response of the tissue to pressure modulation is carried in the intensity variations among different images. This trial can prove that the pressure can influence the blood capacity and the oxygen saturation of the tissue in near-infrared imaging. The result can be output by dynamic value curves of the light intensity, at the same time some algorithms can be used to process image sequences, accumulating continuous physiology information in the resulting images, so the blood vessels can be shown more obviously. This is very useful to the physicians for the information of the blood vessel implicates much pathology information.

Relationship of plasma creatinine and lactic acid in type 2 diabetic patients without renal dysfunction

Background As one of most widely-used biguanides, metformin can induce the lactic acidosis in patients with renal failure though its incidence is very low. However, lactic acidemia induced by metformin was reported in patients without renal dysfunction. It is unclear that whether lactatemia exists in diabetic patients with normal renal function in Chinese or not and its influencing factors. This study aimed to clarify the influencing factors of lactic acid, and identify a practiced clinical marker to predict the hyperlactacidemia in diabetics with normal renal function. Methods The clinical data and venous blood samples of 1024 type 2 diabetic patients treated with （n=426） or without metformin （n=599） were collected. The lactic acid was assayed by enzyme-electrode method. The biochemical indexes included creatinine （Cr） and hepatase were measured with enzymatic procedures. The lactic acid concentrations of different Cr subgroups were compared, and the correlation and receiver operating characteristic curve analysis were used. Results The mean lactic acid level and the proportion of hyperlactatemia of metformin group were significantly higher than that of non-metformin group （P 〈0.01）, but no lactic acidosis was found in all patients. The correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis indicated that the correlative factors of lactic acid in turn were Cr, metformin, alanine transferase （ALT）, body mass index （BMI）, Urine albumin （Ualb）, and blood urea nitrogen （BUN） in total patients; and Cr, ALT, BMI and BUN in non-metformin treated patients; Cr and ALT in metformin-group. The lactate concentration increased with the increment of Cr levels, and reached its peak at Cr 111-130 μmol/L, and the optimal cutoff of Cr in predicting hyperlactacidemia was 96.5 μmol/L. Conclusions Metformin can increase the incidence of lactatemia in type 2 diabetic patients without renal dysfunction. Cr, ALT, and BMI are independent associated factors of blood lactic acid levels. This study aims to develop a method for isolating and purifying protoplasts/vacuoles from fresh leaves of the Cd hyperaccumulator plant species, Sedum alfredii. The results revealed that preheating cellulase and macerozyme at 50 ℃ for 5 rain significantly accel- erated the cell wall degradation. For the most optimal conditions for mesophyll protoplast isolation, the mixture of fresh leaves and cell lysates was followed by a 2-h-long vibration. The protoplast lysate for vacu- ole isolation was diluted, and 0.675 mmol/L was identi- fied as the most appropriate 3-[（3-cholamidopropyl） dimethylammonio]- 1 -propanesulfonic acid （CHAPS） level, in which S. alfredii large vacuoles are charac- terized by a high metal and malic acid content.

Improved yield and Zn accumulation for rice grain by Zn fertilization and optimized water management

Zinc（Zn） deficiency and water scarcity are major challenges in rice（Oryza sativa L.） under an intensive rice production *** study aims to investigate the impact of water-saving management and different Zn fertilization source（ZnSO4 and Zn-EDTA） regimes on grain yield and Zn accumulation in rice *** water managements,continuous flooding（CF）,and alternate wetting and drying（AWD） were applied during the rice growing *** with CF,the AWD regime significantly increased grain yield and Zn concentrations in both brown rice and polished *** yield of genotypes（Nipponbare and Jiaxing27）,on the average,was increased by 11.4%,and grain Zn concentration by 3.9% when compared with those under a CF *** fertilization significantly increased Zn density in polished rice,with a more pronounced effect of ZnSO4 being observed as compared with Zn-EDTA,especially under an AWD *** phytic acid content and molar ratio of phytic acid to Zn were also noted in rice grains with Zn *** above results demonstrated that water management of AWD combined with ZnSO4 fertilization was an effective agricultural practice to elevate grain yield and increase Zn accumulation and bioavailability in rice grains.
