BACKGROUND Collision carcinoma is rare in clinical practice, especially in the head and neck region. In this paper, we report a case of squamous cell carcinoma(SCC) and neuroendocrine carcinoma(NEC) colliding in the larynx and review 12 cases of collision carcinoma in the head and neck to further understand collision carcinoma, including its definition, diagnosis, and *** SUMMARY A 61-year-old man presented with a 1-year history of hoarseness. Contrastenhanced magnetic resonance imaging of the larynx revealed that the right vocal cord had a nodule-like thickening with obvious enhancement. Laryngoscopy revealed a neoplasm on the right vocal cord, and a malignant tumor was initially considered. A frozen section of right vocal cord was performed under general anesthesia. The pathological result showed a malignant tumor in the right vocal cord. The tumor was excised with a CO_2 laser(Vc type). Routine postoperative pathology showed moderately differentiated SCC with small cell NEC in the right vocal cord. No metastatic lymph nodes or distant metastases were found on postoperative positron emission tomography/computed tomography. Because of the coexistence of SCC and NEC, the patient received adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. BACKGROUND: Massive hemobilia is a rare but potential- ly life-threatening cause of upper gastrointestinal hemor- rhage. Transarterial embolization is considered the first line of intervention to stop the bleeding for most causes of he- mobilia. This study was conducted to evaluate selective he- patic angiography and embolization in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with massive hemobilia. METHODS: The clinical data of 16 patients with massive hemobilia were analyzed retrospectively. These patients un- derwent emergency celiac and selective right or left hepatic artery angiography and treated by embolization using Gel- foam particles and/or coils. RESULTS: Hepatic artery angiography revealed hepatic ar- tery pseudoaneurysms in 6 patients, cystic artery pseudoa- neurysms in 2, diffuse hemorrhage of hepatic artery bran- ches in 5, and right hepatic artery-bile duct fistulae in 3. The patients were diagnosed rapidly by angiography and treated successfully by embolization of the hepatic artery branch proximal to the bleeding point, and hemorrhage was stopped immediately. Two patients were embolized the second time for rebleeding. Neither recurrence of bleeding nor serious complication was found during the fol- low-up for 3 months to 2 years. The other 2 patients whose hemorrhage failed to be controlled died several days later. CONCLUSION: Being safe, reliable and minimally inva- sive , selective hepatic artery angiography and embolization are effective in the diagnosis and treatment of massive he- mobilia.

Results:Schwannomas tend to be solitary and are usually well-circumscribed tumors with an oval,round or fusiform shape in the unilateral nasal *** lesions usually have a mottled central lucency with peripheral intensification on contrast-enhanced CT *** heterogeneous appearance is related to areas of increased vascularity with adjacent non-enhancing cystic or necrotic regions. Conclusions:Schwannoma should be considered in the differential of unusual nasal *** clinical and CT patterns may be of use in the differential diagnosis.

***-weighted magnetic resonance imaging(DWI) has been introduced in head and neck *** to limitations in the performance of laryngeal DWI,including the complex anatomical structure of the larynx leading to susceptibility effects,the value of DWI in differentiating benign from malignant laryngeal lesions has largely been *** assessed whether a threshold for the apparent diffusion coefficient(ADC) was useful in differentiating preoperative laryngeal carcinomas from precursor lesions by turbo spin-echo(TSE) DWI and 3.0 T magnetic resonance. *** evaluated DWI and the ADC value in 33 pathologically proven laryngeal carcinomas and 17 precancerous lesions. *** sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy were 75.8,64.7,and 72.0%by laryngostroboscopy,respectively. The sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy of conventional magnetic resonance imaging were 87.9, 76.5,and 84.0%,*** DWI analysis produced sensitivity,specificity,and accuracy values of 100.0,88.2,and 96.0%,*** ADC values were lower for patients with laryngeal carcinoma (mean 1.150±0.25×10-3 mm2/s) versus those with laryngeal precancerous lesions(mean 1.780±0.32×10 3 mm2/s;P < 0.001).ROC analysis showed that the area under the curve was 0.96 and the optimum threshold for the ADC was 1.455×10-3 mm2/s,resulting in a sensitivity of 100%,a specificity of 84.8%, and an accuracy of 94.8%. *** some limitations,including the small number of laryngeal carcinomas included,DWI may detect changes in tumor size and shape before they are visible by *** ADC values were lower for patients with laryngeal carcinoma than for those with laryngeal precancerous *** proposed cutoff for the ADC may help distinguish laryngeal carcinomas from laryngeal precancerous lesions.

Tumor suppressor p53-mediated cell cycle arrest and DNA damage repair may exert cytoprotective effects against cancer therapies, including WEE1 inhibition. Considering that p53 activation can also lead to multiple types of cell death, the role of this tumor suppressor in WEE1 inhibitor-based therapies remains disputed. In this study, we reported that nucleolar stress-mediated p53 activation enhanced the WEE1 inhibitor AZD1775-induced ferroptosis to suppress lung cancer growth. Our findings showed that AZD1775 promoted ferroptosis by blocking cystine uptake, an action similar to that of Erastin. Meanwhile, inhibition of WEE1 by the WEE1 inhibitors or si RNAs induced compensatory upregulation of SLC7A11, which conferred resistance to ferroptosis. Mechanistically, AZD1775 prevented the enrichment of H3K9me3, a histone marker of transcriptional repression, on the SLC7A11 promoter by repressing the expression of the histone methyltransferase SETDB1, thereby enhancing NRF2-mediated SLC7A11 transcription. This finding was also validated using the H3K9me3 inhibitor BRD4770. Remarkably, we found that the nucleolar stress-inducing agent Actinomycin D(Act. D) inhibited SLC7A11 expression by activating p53, thus augmenting AZD1775-induced ferroptosis. Moreover, the combination of AZD1775 and Act. D synergistically suppressed wild-type p53-harboring lung cancer cell growth both in vitro and in vivo. Altogether, our study demonstrates that AZD1775 promotes ferroptosis by targeting cystine uptake but also mediates the adaptive activation of SLC7A11 through the WEE1-SETDB1 cascade and NRF2-induced transcription, and inhibition of SLC7A11 by Act. D boosts the anti-tumor efficacy of AZD1775 by enhancing ferroptosis in cancers with wild-type p53.
