Background:Population health interventions(PHIs)have the potential to improve the health of large populations by systematically addressing underlying conditions of poor health outcomes(i.e.,social determinants of health)and reducing health ***-up may be one means of enhancing the impact of effective ***,not all scale-up attempts have been *** an attempt to help guide the process of successful scale-up of a PHI,we look to the organizational readiness for change theory for a new perspective on how we may better understand the scale-up *** the change theory,our goal was to develop the foundations of an evidence-based,theory-informed framework for a PHI,through a critical examination of various PHI scale-up experiences documented in the ***:We conducted a multi-step,critical interpretive synthesis(CIS)to gather and examine insights from scale-up experiences detailed in peer-reviewed and grey literatures,with a focus on PHIs from a variety of global *** CIS included iterative cycles of systematic searching,sampling,data extraction,critiquing,interpreting,coding,reflecting,and *** relevant to innovations,complexity,and organizational readiness guided our analysis and ***:We retained and examined twenty different PHI scale-up experiences,which were extracted from 77 documents(47 peer-reviewed,30 grey literature)published between 1995 and ***,we identified three phases(i.e.,Groundwork,Implementing Scale-up,and Sustaining Scale-up),11 actions,and four key components(i.e.,PHI,context,capacity,stakeholders)pertinent to the scale-up *** guiding theories provided explanatory power to various aspects of the scale-up process and to scale-up success,and an alternative perspective to the assessment of scale-up readiness for a ***:Our synthesis provided the foundations of the Scale-up Readiness Assessment *** theoreticallyinformed and rigorous synt

A comparison of three surface roughness characterization techniques:photogrammetry,pin profiler,and smartphone-based LiDAR

Surface roughness plays an important role in microwave remote *** the agricultural domain,surface roughness is crucial for soil moisture retrieval methods that use electromagnetic surface scattering or microwave radiative transfer ***,improved characterization of Soil Surface Roughness(SSR)is of considerable *** this study,three approaches,including a standard pin profiler,a LiDAR point cloud generated from an iPhone 12 Pro,and a Structure from Motion(SfM)photogrammetric point cloud,were applied over 24 surface profiles with different roughness variations to measure surface *** objective of this study was to evaluate the capability of smartphone-based LiDAR technology to measure surface roughness parameters and compare the results of this technique with the more common *** showed that the iPhone LiDAR technology,when point cloud data is captured in a fine-resolution mode,has a significant correlation with SfM photogrammetry(R2=0.70)and a relatively close agreement with pin profiler(R2=0.60).However,this accuracy tends to be greater for random surfaces and rough profiles with row structure *** results of this study confirm that smartphone-based LiDAR can be used as a cost-effective,fast,and time-efficient alternative tool for measuring surface roughness,especially for rough,wide,and inaccessible areas.

The primitive Wigner-Seitz cell and corresponding first Brillouin zone(FBZ)are typically used in calculations of lattice vibrational and transport properties as they contain the smallest number of degrees of freedom and thus have the cheapest computational ***,in complex materials,the FBZ can take on irregular shapes where lattice symmetries are not ***,conventional cells(with more atoms and regular shapes)are often used to describe materials,though dynamical and transport calculations are more *** we discuss an efficient anharmonic lattice dynamic method that maps conventional cell dynamics to primitive cell dynamics based on translational *** symmetries have not been utilized in typical lattice dynamical *** leads to phase interference conditions that act like conserved quantum numbers and a conservation rule for phonon scattering that is hidden in conventional dynamics which significantly reduces the computational *** demonstrate this method for phonon transport in a variety of materials with inputs from first-principles calculations and attribute its efficiency to reduced scattering phase space and fewer summations in scattering matrix element calculations.

What do coaches want to know about sports-related concussion?A needs assessment study

Purpose: This study aims to identify the concussion-related training and education needs of Gaelic Athletic Association(GAA) coaches in Ireland,as well as the preferred method of concussion education ***: We used a self-report questionnaire to collect data from a convenience sample of 108 GAA coaches in Ireland. Data were captured on(1) informational needs and desires,(2) preferred methods of delivery, and(3) concussion practices and procedures. Questionnaires were completed electronically from June 3 rd–September 29 th, ***: Coaches indicated that they were most interested in receiving information about the(1) signs and symptoms of concussion,(2) assessment of concussion, and(3) return-to-play guidelines. Over two-thirds of participants indicated that in-person training would be the most effective mode of delivery of concussion education for this population. Additionally, only 10% coaches reported that before the start of the season they talked to their athletes about concussion management and safety, and this was more common among coaches who reported being formally educated about ***: Our findings reveal a disconnect between the concussion education needs and the education that is currently provided to GAA coaches, in terms of content and delivery modality. Our results suggest a need for a multifaceted approach to concussion education, tailored to the needs and learning preferences of the target population.

Personality and behavioral changes in Asian elephants(Elephas maximus)following the death of herd members

Elephants are highly social beings with complex individual *** know that elephants have a general interest in death,investigating carcasses,not just limited to kin;however,research does not explore in depth whether individuals change their behavior or personality following traumatic events,such as the death of a *** a captive herd of Asian elephants(Elephas maximus)housed at Chester Zoo,UK,we measured social behavior and proximity and personality using the Ten-Item Personality Inventory,and found age-related and relationship-related changes in both behavior and personality following the deaths of herd ***,the herd spent less time socializing and engaging in affiliative behaviors following the death of the adult female when compared to baseline data,yet spent more time engaging in these behaviors after the death of two *** death of the central female had a dramatic impact on her infant calf,resulting in increasingly withdrawn behavior,yet had the opposite effect on her adult daughter,who subsequently established a more integrated role within the *** Stability fell in the motherless calf but rose in an adult female,who had lost her adult daughter,but had a new calf to care *** suggest that the greater impact on the behavior and personality of surviving herd members following the deaths of calves,compared to an adult member,attests to the significance of the unifying role played by calves within an elephant herd.

Self-Organizing Maps for identification of zeolitic diagenesis patterns in closed hydrologic systems on the Earth and its implications for Mars

We have conducted a survey of zeolite occurrences in saline-alkaline paleolake deposits on Earth to identify the most prominent zeolite alteration patterns and to characterize the most common authigenic minerals and their paragenetic relationships. We collected the bulk mineral assemblages(from previous and our studies) as identified by X-ray diffraction from zeolitic tuff beds and associated sedimentary beds from thirteen paleolake deposits from the USA, Mexico, Greece, and Tanzania. We applied the Kohonen Self-Organizing Maps(SOM) to look for interesting patterns in the tuff bed mineral assemblages without prescribing any specific interpretation, and for information reduction and classification. Decision Tree(DT) method was applied to characterize these clusters. We were able to define clear class boundaries between fresh glass, non-analcime zeolites, analcime, and K feldspar. The non-analcime zeolites were further grouped into several classes based on mineral type. We also discuss the potential implications for Mars, showing that the mineral assemblages of diagenetic facies identified by SOM and DT can be used to test or validate the orbital, in situ, or modeling results, while the trained SOM provides a robust generalized ability to classify the new mineral assemblage data into the most common diagenetic facies identified in saline-alkaline paleoenvironments that contain zeolites. The study concludes that generalizing the complex geochemical behaviors using unsupervised statistical learning methods can help to identify the most prominent geochemical behaviors.

Pilfering of western juniper seed caches by scatter-hoarding rodents varies by microsite and canopy type

Scatter-hoarding rodents store seeds throughout their home ranges in superficially buried caches which,unlike seeds larder-hoarded in burrows,are difficult to *** seeds are often pilfered by other scatter-hoarders and either re-cached,eaten or *** seed movements can influence seedling recruitment,because only seeds remaining in caches are likely to *** the importance of scatter-hoarding rodents in the dispersal of western juniper seeds has recently been revealed,the level of pilfering that occurs after initial burial is *** traits,soil moisture,and substrate can influence pilfering processes,but less is known about how pilfering varies among caches placed in open versus canopy microsites,or how cache discovery and removal varies among different canopy-types,tree versus *** compared the removal of artificial caches between open and canopy microsites and between tree and shrub canopies at two sites in northeastern California during late spring and *** also used trail cameras at one site to monitor artificial cache removal,identify potential pilferers,and illuminate microsite use by *** of artificial caches was faster in open microsites at both sites during both seasons,and more caches were removed from shrub than tree *** kangaroo rats were the species observed most on cameras,foraging most often in open microsites,which could explain the observed pilfering *** is the first study to document pilfering of western juniper seeds,providing further evidence of the importance of scatter-hoarding rodent foraging behavior in understanding seedling recruitment processes in juniper woodlands.
