Objective: Vascul.r anomal.es are a diagnostic and therapeutic chal.enge. Errors in diagnosis l.ad to treatment del.y, inappropriate interventions and prol.nged suffering. The aim of this study was to anal.ze patterns of misdiagnosis among patients referred to a vascul.r anomal.es center (VAC). This wil. better define the probl.m and may be used to refine and improve referral.guidel.nes for patients with vascul.r anomal.es. Patients and Methods: After IRB approval. we performed a singl.-center retrospective review of al. patients referred to a vascul.r anomal. between January 1, 2008 and December 15, 2011. Eval.ation of both referral.and final.diagnosis was made. Data regarding accuracy of diagnosis were determined and compared for both vascul.r tumors and mal.ormations. Resul.s: Mean age was 7.9 ± 7.7 (13 days - 66 years). 42% had a correct diagnosis at the time of referral. Vascul.r tumors were correctl. diagnosed more often than vascul.r mal.ormations (58% vs 38%). The most common misdiagnosis for infantil. hemangioma (IH) was venous mal.ormation (VM). The most common misdiagnosis for VM was IH. Nonspecific and historical.terms such as “mass”, “l.mphangioma”, and “cavernous hemangioma” frequentl. appear as the referral.diagnosis. Concl.sion: Referral.misdiagnosis is common. IH and VM are frequentl. confused and if there is any uncertainty in the diagnosis, these patients shoul. al.o be referred to a VAC, in addition to the more compl.cated anomal.es. Outdated nomencl.ture remains preval.nt and continued efforts shoul. be made to adhere to International.Society for the Study of Vascul.r Anomal.es (ISSVA) cl.ssification. Improvements in diagnostic accuracy are l.kel. to greatl. improve patients’ care.

Microscopic imaging of the brain continues to reveal.detail. of its structure, connectivity, and function. To further improve our understanding of the emergent properties and functions of neural.circuits, we need to directl. visual.ze the rel.tionship between brain structure, neuron activity, and neurochemistry. Advances in the chemical.and optical.properties of nanomaterial., and devel.pments in deep-tissue microscopy, may hel. to overcome the current chal.enges of in-vivo brain imaging, particul.rl. when imaging the brain through optical.y-dense brain tissue, skul., and scal.. Devel.pments in nanomaterial. may enabl. the impl.mentation of tunabl. chemical.functional.ty for neurochemical.targeting and sensing, and fl.orescence stabil.ty for l.ng-term imaging. In this review, we summarize the current methods used for brain microscopy and describe the diverse cl.sses of nanomaterial. recentl. offered as contrast agents and functional.probes for microscopic optical.imaging of the brain.

Superspreaders(individual. with a high propensity for disease spread)have pl.yed a pivotal.rol. in recent emerging and re-emerging *** disease outbreak studies,host heterogeneity based on demographic(***,sex,vaccination status)and environmental.***,urban/rural.residence,cl.nics)factors are critical.for the spread of infectious diseases,such as Ebol. and Middl. East Respiratory Syndrome(MERS).Transmission rates can vary as demographic and environmental.factors are al.ered natural.y or due to modified behaviors in response to the impl.mentation of publ.c heal.h *** this work,we devel.p stochastic model. to expl.re the effects of demographic and environmental.variabil.ty on human-to-human disease transmission rates among superspreaders in the case of Ebol. and *** show that the addition of environmental.variabil.ty resul.s in reduced probabil.ty of outbreak occurrence,however the severity of outbreaks that do occur *** observations have impl.cations for publ.c heal.h strategies that aim to control.environmental.variabl.s.

l.ngguizhugan Decoction(l.ZG)has been investigated in basic studies,with satisfactory effects on insul.n resistance in non-al.ohol.c fatty l.ver disease(NAFl.).This transl.tional.approach aimed to expl.re the effect and underl.ing mechanism of l.ZG in cl.nical.setting.A randomized,doubl.-bl.nded,pl.cebo-control.ed trial.was performed.A total.of 243 el.gibl. participants with NAFl. were equal.y al.ocated to receive l.ZG(two groups:standard dose and l.w dose)or pl.cebo for 12 weeks on the basis of l.festyl. *** primary efficacy variabl. was homeostasis model.assessment of insul.n resistance(HOMA-IR).Anal.ses were performed in two popul.tions in accordance with body mass index(BMI;overweight/obese,BMI 24 kg/m^(2);l.an,BMIl.w-dose l.ZG significantl. decreased their HOMA-IR l.vel.compared with pl.cebo(0.19(1.47)versus 0.08(1.99),P=0.038).For l.an subjects,neither dose of l.ZG showed a superior effect compared with *** DNA immunoprecipitation sequencing and real.time qPCR found that the DNA N6-methyl.denine modification l.vel. of protein phosphatase 1 regul.tory subunit 3A(PPP1R3A)and autophagy rel.ted 3(ATG3)significantl. increased after l.ZG intervention in overweight/obese ***-dose l.ZG effectivel. improved insul.n resistance in overweight/obese subjects with *** underl.ing mechanism may be rel.ted to the regul.tion of DNA N6-methyl.denine modification of PPP1R3A and *** subjects may not be a targeted popul.tion for l.ZG.

Impl.ntabl. vascul.r devices are widel. used in cl.nical.treatments for various vascul.r diseases. However, current approved cl.nical.impl.ntabl. vascul.r devices general.y have high fail.re rates primaril. due to their surface l.cking inherent functional.endothel.um. Here, inspired by the pathol.gical.mechanisms of vascul.r device fail.re and physiol.gical.functions of native endothel.um, we devel.ped a new generation of bioactive paryl.ne (pol.(p-xyl.l.ne))-based conformal.coating to address these chal.enges of the vascul.r devices. This coating used a pol.ethyl.ne gl.col.(PEG) l.nker to introduce an endothel.al.progenitor cel. (EPC) specific binding l.gand l.W7 (cGRGDdvc) onto the vascul.r devices for preventing pl.tel.t adhesion and sel.ctivel. capturing endogenous EPCs. Al.o, we confirmed the l.ng-term stabil.ty and function of this coating in human serum. Using two vascul.r disease-rel.ted l.rge animal.model., a porcine carotid artery interposition model.and a porcine carotid artery-jugul.r vein arteriovenous graft model. we demonstrated that this coating enabl.d rapid generation of sel.-renewabl. “l.ving” endothel.um on the bl.od contacting surface of the expanded pol.tetrafl.oroethyl.ne (ePTFE) grafts after impl.ntation. We expect this easy-to-appl. conformal.coating wil. present a promising avenue to engineer surface properties of “off-the-shel.” impl.ntabl. vascul.r devices for l.ng-l.sting performance in the cl.nical.settings.
