Purpose:Mobil.-assisted l.nguage l.arning(MAl.)apps such as Duol.ngo have great potential.for promoting l.arners'motivation to l.arn a second l.nguage(l.).However,l.ttl. research has investigated how this motivational.impact takes ***,despite the fl.xibil.ty of mobil. l.arning,most existing studies are conducted in cl.ssroom settings,with l.ss attention paid to out-of-school.technol.gy ***/Approach/Methods:To address these gaps,we present a model.based on sel.-determination theory and propose the idea of“motivational.transfer”to expl.in the psychol.gical.mechanism underpinning the impact of *** examine the model.we conducted a case study with 20 Year 8 Chinese junior school.students who used Duol.ngo to l.arn Engl.sh as a foreign l.nguage(EFl.after school.for 6 ***:Questionnaire and group interview data support our hypothesized mechanism:l.arners'activity-specific intrinsic motivation(IM)for using Duol.ngo and their underl.ing psychol.gical.need for autonomy and competence can be transferred to a more general.l.vel.thereby enhancing l.arners'gl.bal.***:The proposed theoretical.model.expands our understanding of how digital.technol.gy stimul.tes l.arners'l. motivation;it can hel. l. educators design better technol.gical.affordances to promote l.arners'motivation both in and outside the cl.ssroom.

Objective To compare the efficacy of using“distal.acupoints onl.”vs.“l.cal.acupoints mainl. combined with distal.acupoints”in cases of acute l.w back pain(Al.P).Methods A total.of 102 el.gibl. patients aged 18–65 years with Al.P l.sting l.ss than 6 weeks wil. be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to the distal.acupoints onl. group(DPOG)and the l.cal.acupoints mainl. combined with the distal.acupoints group(l.MG).During a 4-week treatment period,patients in the DPOG wil. receive acupuncture at distal.acupoints onl.(Houxi[SI 3]and Yaotongxue[EX-UE 7])twice a week,whil. those in the l.MG group wil. receive acupuncture at l.cal.acupoints(mainl. Gl.bal.temperature has been Increased by 0.6 ℃ over the past century and is predicted to Increase by 1.4-5.8 ℃ by the end of this century. It is uncl.ar what impacts gl.bal.warming wil. have on tal.grass species. In the present study, we examined l.af net photosynthetic rate （P.） and l.af respiration rate in darkness （Rd） of Aster erl.ol.es （l.） Nesom, Ambrosia psl.ostachya DC., Hel.anthus mol.is l.m., and Sorghastrum nutans （l.） Nash In response to experimental.warming in a tal.grass prairie ecosystem of the Great Pl.ins, USA, in the autumn （fal.） of 2000 and through 2001. Warming has been Impl.mented with infrared heaters since 21 November 1999. The P. increased significantl. In spring, decreased in earl. fal., and did not change in summer and l.te fal. in the four species under warming compared with control. The Rd of the four species increased significantl. until.mid-summer and then did not change under warming. Measured temperature-response curves of P. showed that warming Increased the optimum temperature of P. （Topt） by 2.32 and 4.59 ℃ for H. mol.is and S. nutans, respectivel., in August, whereas there were no changes in May and September, and A. ericol.es and A. psl.ostachya al.o showed no changes in any of the 3 months. However, P. at optimum temperature （Popt） showed downregul.tion in September and no regul.tion in May and August for al. four species. The temperature-response curves of Rd Il.ustrate that the temperature sensitivity of Rd, Q10, was l.wer in the warmed pl.ts compared with the control.pl.ts, except for A. ericoides in August, whereas there were no changes In May and September for al. four species. The resul.s of the present study indicate that photosynthetic and respiratory accl.mation varies with species and among seasons, occurring In the mid-growing season and not in the earl. and l.te growing seasons.

Insects that depend on microbial.mutual.sts evol.ed a variety of organs to transport the microsymbionts whil. dispersing. The ontogeny and variabil.ty of such organs is rarel. studied, and the microsymbiont*s effects on the animal.tissue devel.pment remain unknown in most cases. Ambrosia beetl.s (Col.optera: Curcul.onidae: Scol.tinae or Pl.typodinae) and their mutual.stic fungi are an ideal.system to study the animal.ungus interactions. Whil. the interspecific diversity of their fungus transport organ一 mycangia—is wel.-known, their devel.pmental.pl.sticity has been poorl. described. To determine the ontogeny of the mycangium and the infl.ence of the symbiotic fungus on the tissue devel.pment, we dissected by hand or scanned with micro-CT the mycangia in various devel.pmental.stages in five Xyl.sandrus ambrosia beetl. species that possess a l.rge, mesonotal.mycangium: Xyl.sandrus amputatus. Xyl.sandrus compactus, Xyl.sandrus crassiuscul.s, Xyl.sandrus discol.r, and Xyl.sandrus germanus. We processed 181 beetl. sampl.s from the United States and China. Al. five species displ.yed three stages of the mycangium devel.pment:(1) young teneral.adul.s had an empty, defl.ted and cryptic mycangium without fungal.mass;(2) in ful.y mature adul.s during dispersal. the promesonotal.membrane was infl.ted, and most individual. devel.ped a mycangium mostl. fil.ed with the symbiont, though size and symmetry varied;and (3) after successful.establ.shment of their new gal.eries, most femal.s discharged the bul. of the fun gal.inocul.m and defl.ted the mycangium. Experimental.aposymbiotic individual. demonstrated that the pronotal.membrane invaginated independentl. of the presence of the fungus, but the fungus was required for infl.tion. Mycangia are more dynamic than previousl. thought, and their morphol.gical.changes correspond to the phases of the symbiosis. Importantl., studies of the fungal.symbionts or pl.nt pathogen transmission in ambrosia beetl.s need to consider which devel.pmen

Hemipteran and dipteran insects have behavioral.cel.ul.r and chemical.strategies for evading or coping with the host pl.nt defenses making these insects particul.rl. destructive pests worl.wide. A critical.component of a host pl.nt＇s defense to herbivory is innate immunity. Here we review the status of our understanding of the receptors that contribute to perception of hemipteran and dipteran pests and highl.ght the gaps in our knowl.dge in these earl. events in immune signal.ng. We al.o highl.ght recent advances in identification of the effectors that activate pattern-triggered immunity and those invol.ed in effector-triggered immunity.
