Purpose: To report a.ca.e of a.pedia.ric cornea. limba. dermoid with eyela.hes a.d to describe post-opera.ive cha.ges a.ter excision with reconstruction using a.niotic membra.e gra.ting, sutures a.d fibrinogen-thrombin glue. Ca.e Report: One pedia.ric pa.ient wa. identified with a.gra.e II infra.empora. cornea.-limba. dermoid with conjunctiva. eyela.hes. The dermoid wa. surgica.ly excised a.d the cornea.reconstructed with a.niotic membra.e using sutures a.d fibrinogen/thrombin glue. Preopera.ive a.d postopera.ive mea.urement of a.tigma.ism, a.isometropia.a.d presence of exposure kera.opa.hy were performed.

The Suh Muscle Hook: a.New Muscle Hook for Tight Extra.cula. Muscles during Stra.ismus Surgery

Purpose: To introduce a. a.va.ced muscle hook to decrea.e risks a.d crea.e more fea.ible extra.cula. muscle surgeries for physicia.s. Ca.e Report: Tight extra.cula. muscles during stra.ismus surgery could be extremely cha.lenging even in experienced ha.ds due to restricted globe rota.ion, limited view, a.d la.k of muscle ela.ticity. a.though a.va.iety of surgica. instruments ha.e been introduced through the yea.s, tra.itiona. muscle hooks such a. the Ja.eson hook a.e la.gely uncha.ged a.d a.e bulky a.d cumbersome. Using the tra.itiona. muscle hook under situa.ions such a. pedia.ric stra.ismus surgery with sma.ler eyes a.d extra.cula. muscles ma. increa.e the risk of perfora.ing the globe or even rupturing the muscles. We developed the “Suh muscle hook”, which ha. a.0.55 mm wide grooved tra.k in a.1.1 mm wide horizonta. ba., a.semi-sha.p dissecting tip, a.d a.30-degree bending nea. the ha.dle a.commoda.ing for na.a. bridge to better fa.ilita.e surgeons dea.ing with tight extra.cula. muscles a.d minimize risks during stra.ismus surgery.

Compa.ison Study of Funduscopic Exa. of Pedia.ric Pa.ients Using the D-EYE Method a.d Conventiona. Indirect Ophtha.moscopic Methods

Purpose: The D-EYE device, a.new fundoscopic sma.tphone lens, ha. demonstra.ed its utility in a.clinica. setting to detect a.d document ocula. pa.hology, but ha. not been tested in the pedia.ric popula.ion. a.prospective study wa. performed to explore the a.plica.ion of D-EYE in pedia.ric fundus exa.ina.ions. Methods: Pa.ients a.es 3 - 18 yea.s old underwent dila.ed fundus exa.ina.ions by ma.ked exa.iners using the video function of the D-EYE, while indirect ophtha.moscopy wa. performed by a.edia.ric ophtha.mologist. The exa.iners independently a.a.yzed the D-EYE videos for the presence or a.sence of a.norma.ities, cup-to-disc (c/d) ra.ios a.d optic nerve size a.d color. The D-EYE video findings were compa.ed to indirect ophtha.moscopy findings. Results: The study included 172 eyes from 87 pa.ients. In compa.ing D-EYE to indirect ophtha.moscopy for detecting fundus a.norma.ities, the sensitivity wa. 0.72, specificity wa. 0.97, positive predictive va.ue (PPV) wa. 0.77, nega.ive predictive va.ue (NPV) wa. 0.97, positive likelihood ra.io (LR) wa. 27.8, a.d nega.ive LR wa. 0.29. The a.reement ra.e between the D-EYE video gra.ers for the c/d ra.io within a.va.ue of 0.1 wa. 97.0%. Multiple, distinct a.norma.ities were discovered using the D-EYE device, including nysta.mus, optic nerve hypopla.ia. optic disc edema. peripa.illa.y a.rophy, disc pa.lor, a.d optic disc drusen. Conclusion: Fundoscopic ima.ing using the D-EYE sma.tphone lens relia.ly detects the presence of fundus a.norma.ities a.d ha. good relia.ility in a.sessing c/d ra.ios. The video ca.a.ility is useful in pa.ients with nysta.mus or those who a.e poorly complia.t with the exa.ina.ion a.d a.lowed for effective tea.hing by the pedia.ric ophtha.mologist.
