Clinical-radiomics predictors to identify the suitability of transarterial chemoembolization treatment in intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma:A multicenter study

Background: Although transarterial chemoembolization(TACE) is the first-line therapy for intermediatestage hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), it is not suitable for all patients. This study aimed to determine how to select patients who are not suitable for TACE as the first treatment choice. Methods: A total of 243 intermediate-stage HCC patients treated with TACE at three centers were retrospectively enrolled, of which 171 were used for model training and 72 for testing. Radiomics features were screened using the Spearman correlation analysis and the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator(LASSO) algorithm. Subsequently, a radiomics model was established using extreme gradient boosting(XGBoost) with 5-fold cross-validation. The Shapley additive explanations(SHAP) method was used to visualize the radiomics model. A clinical model was constructed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression. The combined model comprising the radiomics signature and clinical factors was then established. This model’s performance was evaluated by discrimination, calibration, and clinical application. Generalization ability was evaluated by the testing cohort. Finally, the model was used to analyze overall and progression-free survival of different groups. Results: A third of the patients(81/243) were unsuitable for TACE treatment. The combined model had a high degree of accuracy as it identified TACE-unsuitable cases, at a sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC) of 0.759, 0.885, 0.906 [95% confidence interval(CI): 0.859-0.953] in the training cohort and 0.826, 0.776, and 0.894(95% CI: 0.815-0.972) in the testing cohort, respectively. Conclusions: The high degree of accuracy of our clinical-radiomics model makes it clinically useful in identifying intermediate-stage HCC patients who are unsuitable for TACE treatment.

Quantitative dual-energy computed tomography texture analysis predicts the response of primary small hepatocellular carcinoma to radiofrequency ablation

Background:Radiofrequency ablation(RFA)is one of the effective therapeutic modalities in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).However,there is no proper method to evaluate the HCC response to RFA.This study aimed to establish and validate a clinical prediction model based on dual-energy com-puted tomography(DECT)quantitative-imaging parameters,clinical variables,and CT texture parameters.Methods:We enrolled 63 patients with small HCC.Two to four weeks after RFA,we performed DECT scanning to obtain DECT-quantitative parameters and to record the patients’clinical baseline variables.DECT images were manually segmented,and 56 CT texture features were extracted.We used LASSO al-gorithm for feature selection and data dimensionality reduction;logistic regression analysis was used to build a clinical model with clinical variables and DECT-quantitative parameters;we then added texture features to build a clinical-texture model based on clinical model.Results:A total of six optimal CT texture analysis(CTTA)features were selected,which were statis-tically different between patients with or without tumor progression(Plinical vari-ables and DECT-quantitative parameters were included,the clinical models showed that albumin-bilirubin grade(ALBI)[odds ratio(OR)=2.77,95%confidence interval(CI):1.35-6.65,P=0.010],λAP(40-100 keV)(OR=3.21,95%CI:3.16-5.65,P=0.045)and IC AP(OR=1.25,95%CI:1.01-1.62,P=0.028)were asso-ciated with tumor progression,while the clinical-texture models showed that ALBI(OR=2.40,95%CI:1.19-5.68,P=0.024),λAP(40-100 keV)(OR=1.43,95%CI:1.10-2.07,P=0.019),and CTTA-score(OR=2.98,95%CI:1.68-6.66,P=0.001)were independent risk factors for tumor progression.The clinical model,clinical-texture model,and CTTA-score all performed well in predicting tumor progression within 12 months after RFA(AUC=0.917,0.962,and 0.906,respectively),and the C-indexes of the clinical and clinical-texture models were 0.917 and 0.957,respectively.Conclusions:DECT-quantitative parameters,CTTA,and clinical variables were help

Robust reinforcement learning with UUB guarantee for safe motion control of autonomous robots

This paper addresses the issue of safety in reinforcement learning(RL)with disturbances and its application in the safety-constrained motion control of autonomous robots.To tackle this problem,a robust Lyapunov value function(rLVF)is proposed.The rLVF is obtained by introducing a data-based LVF under the worst-case disturbance of the observed state.Using the rLVF,a uniformly ultimate boundedness criterion is established.This criterion is desired to ensure that the cost function,which serves as a safety criterion,ultimately converges to a range via the policy to be designed.Moreover,to mitigate the drastic variation of the rLVF caused by differences in states,a smoothing regularization of the rLVF is introduced.To train policies with safety guarantees under the worst disturbances of the observed states,an off-policy robust RL algorithm is proposed.The proposed algorithm is applied to motion control tasks of an autonomous vehicle and a cartpole,which involve external disturbances and variations of the model parameters,respectively.The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the theoretical findings and the advantages of the proposed algorithm in terms of robustness and safety.

Accumulated-state-error-based event-triggered sampling scheme and its application to H∞ control of sampled-data systems

This paper is concerned with event-triggered H∞control of sampled-data systems. Its novelties lie in three aspects:（i） A novel accumulated-state-error-based event-triggered scheme is introduced by comparing the integral of the state error from tk to t with the system state sampled at tk. This condition works well due to the fact that the so-called Zeno behaviour does not occur.（ii） A novel Lyapunov functional is constructed to establish a criterion to ensure some certain H∞performance of the closed-loop system. This Lyapunov functional is dependent on the integral of the state error involved in the event-triggered scheme.（iii） Under the event-triggered sampling scheme, suitable state-feedback controllers can be designed rather than be given a priori. Moreover, a self-triggered implementation of the proposed event-triggered sampling scheme is presented as well. Finally, a batch reactor model and an inverted pendulum system are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

From Liquid to Solid‑State Lithium Metal Batteries:Fundamental Issues and Recent Developments

The widespread adoption of lithium-ion batteries has been driven by the proliferation of portable electronic devices and electric vehicles,which have increasingly stringent energy density requirements.Lithium metal batteries(LMBs),with their ultralow reduction potential and high theoretical capacity,are widely regarded as the most promising technical pathway for achieving high energy density batteries.In this review,we provide a comprehensive overview of fundamental issues related to high reactivity and migrated interfaces in LMBs.Furthermore,we propose improved strategies involving interface engineering,3D current collector design,electrolyte optimization,separator modification,application of alloyed anodes,and external field regulation to address these challenges.The utilization of solid-state electrolytes can significantly enhance the safety of LMBs and represents the only viable approach for advancing them.This review also encompasses the variation in fundamental issues and design strategies for the transition from liquid to solid electrolytes.Particularly noteworthy is that the introduction of SSEs will exacerbate differences in electrochemical and mechanical properties at the interface,leading to increased interface inhomogeneity—a critical factor contributing to failure in all-solidstate lithium metal batteries.Based on recent research works,this perspective highlights the current status of research on developing high-performance LMBs.

Cluster DetectionMethod of Endogenous Security Abnormal Attack Behavior in Air Traffic Control Network

In order to enhance the accuracy of Air Traffic Control(ATC)cybersecurity attack detection,in this paper,a new clustering detection method is designed for air traffic control network security attacks.The feature set for ATC cybersecurity attacks is constructed by setting the feature states,adding recursive features,and determining the feature criticality.The expected information gain and entropy of the feature data are computed to determine the information gain of the feature data and reduce the interference of similar feature data.An autoencoder is introduced into the AI(artificial intelligence)algorithm to encode and decode the characteristics of ATC network security attack behavior to reduce the dimensionality of the ATC network security attack behavior data.Based on the above processing,an unsupervised learning algorithm for clustering detection of ATC network security attacks is designed.First,determine the distance between the clustering clusters of ATC network security attack behavior characteristics,calculate the clustering threshold,and construct the initial clustering center.Then,the new average value of all feature objects in each cluster is recalculated as the new cluster center.Second,it traverses all objects in a cluster of ATC network security attack behavior feature data.Finally,the cluster detection of ATC network security attack behavior is completed by the computation of objective functions.The experiment took three groups of experimental attack behavior data sets as the test object,and took the detection rate,false detection rate and recall rate as the test indicators,and selected three similar methods for comparative test.The experimental results show that the detection rate of this method is about 98%,the false positive rate is below 1%,and the recall rate is above 97%.Research shows that this method can improve the detection performance of security attacks in air traffic control network.

Radiation build-up and dissipation in Raman random fiber laser

Raman random fiber laser(RRFL) is a complex physical system that arises from the distributed Raman amplification and the intrinsic stochasticity of fiber scattering.The analysis of the underlying lightwave kinetics at steady state has been the focus of considerable interest.However,the transient state,such as the RRFL build-up and dissipation,is particularly important for revealing the lightwave interaction process.Here,we investigate for the first time the RRFL dynamics at the transient state and track the RRFL temporal and spectral evolution theoretically and experimentally.Particularly,with the contribution of random distributed feedback,RRFL build-up exhibits continuous Verhulst logistic growth curves without cavity-related features,which is significantly different from the step-like growth curve of conventional fiber lasers.Furthermore,the radiation build-up duration is inversely related to the pump power,and the spectral evolution of the RRFL undergoes two phases,i.e.,from spectral density increase to spectral broadening.From the steady state to the pump switch-off state,the RRFL output power dissipates immediately,and the remaining Stokes lightwave from the Rayleigh scattering will gradually disappear after one round trip.This work provides new insights into the transient dynamic features of the RRFL.

Improving the long-term cycling stability and energy density of all-solid-state lithium(Li)-metal batteries(ASSLMBs)at room temperature is a severe challenge because of the notorious solid–solid interfacial contact loss and sluggish ion transport.Solid electrolytes are generally studied as two-dimensional(2D)structures with planar interfaces,showing limited interfacial contact and further resulting in unstable Li/electrolyte and cathode/electrolyte interfaces.Herein,three-dimensional(3D)architecturally designed composite solid electrolytes are developed with independently controlled structural factors using 3D printing processing and post-curing treatment.Multiple-type electrolyte films with vertical-aligned micro-pillar(p-3DSE)and spiral(s-3DSE)structures are rationally designed and developed,which can be employed for both Li metal anode and cathode in terms of accelerating the Li+transport within electrodes and reinforcing the interfacial adhesion.The printed p-3DSE delivers robust long-term cycle life of up to 2600 cycles and a high critical current density of 1.92 mA cm^(−2).The optimized electrolyte structure could lead to ASSLMBs with a superior full-cell areal capacity of 2.75 mAh cm^(−2)(LFP)and 3.92 mAh cm^(−2)(NCM811).This unique design provides enhancements for both anode and cathode electrodes,thereby alleviating interfacial degradation induced by dendrite growth and contact loss.The approach in this study opens a new design strategy for advanced composite solid polymer electrolytes in ASSLMBs operating under high rates/capacities and room temperature.

Lanthanum promoting bone formation by regulating osteogenesis,osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis

With lanthanum(La) in agriculture, medicine, and the chemical industry, La shows accumulation in the body, especially in the bone, because of its similar structure to calcium. Moreover, La has a direct role in bone formation regulating osteoblasts and osteoclasts. Nevertheless, bone formation is complex under the regulation of osteogenesis, osteoclastogenesis, and angiogenesis in the bone microenvironment. It is difficult to comprehensively understand the regulation of bone homeostasis from a single kind of cell.Herein, some bone microenvironment-related cells and mouse calvaria culture models were used to study the regulatory effect of La-based compound-lanthanum nitrate(La(NO_(3))_(3)) on bone formation.La(NO_(3))_(3) has good biological safety, and the osteogenic differentiation is significantly increased under La(NO_(3))_(3) treatment for bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(BMMSC). In contrast, the differentiation,maturation, and bone erosion ability of osteoclasts are significantly decreased. Meanwhile, the angiogenesis ability of human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVEC) is significantly promoted when treated with La(NO_(3))_(3). Furthermore, bone metabolism and angiogenesis are improved under La(NO_(3))_(3) treatment in the calvaria ex vivo culture model and BMMSC-HUVEC co-culture system. These results suggest that La has the beneficial effect of promoting bone metabolism and improving bone formation in the bone microenvironment.

Network localization serves as a fundamental component for enabling various position based operations in multi-agent systems,facilitating tasks like target searching and formation control by providing accurate position information for all nodes in the network.Network localization focuses on the challenge of determining the positions of nodes within a network,relying on the known positions of anchor nodes and internode relative measurements.Over the past few decades,distributed network localization has garnered significant attention from researchers.This paper aims to provide a review of main results and advancements in the field of distributed network localization,with a particular focus on the perspective of graph Laplacian.Owning to its favorable characteristics,graph Laplacian unifies various network localization,even when dealing with diverse types of internode relative measurements,into a unified protocol framework,which can be constructed by a linear method and ensure the global convergence.
