Anti-hypercholesterolemic effect of kenaf(Hibiscus cannabinus L.)seed on high-fat diet Sprague dawley rats

Objective:To determine? the anlihypercholesterolemic effects of kenaf seed samples and compare with the commercial hypocholesterolemic drug on serum lipids profiles and malondialdehyde(MDA) level in the ***:Kenaf seed oil(KSO),microencapsulated kenaf seed oil(MKSO),kenaf seed extract(KSE) and defatted kenaf seed meal(DKSM) were prepared and phytocHemicals screening on these samples were done prior in viro *** compounds in *** quantified using high performance liquid *** were 40(divided in eight diet groups of 5) male Sprague dawley rats adapted lo normal standard diet or hypercholesterolemic diet(HD) with or without the treatment of these kenaf samples for 32 ***:All the kenaf samples exhibited to contain most of the major *** possessed gallic acid,tannic acid,*** acid,syringic acid,sinapic acid,ferulic acid,naringin acid,and protocatechuic *** significant higher(Py lipoprotein cholesterol and MDA levels in HD group without treatment than the normal control group suggested the hypercholesterolemia was induced by the Incorporation of cholesterol into *** exhibited higher cholesterol-lowering properties due to the significant lower(Pycerides,total cholesterol and MDA *** showed the highest efficiency of cholesterol-lowering activity,followed by *** and ***:*** and KSE appeared lo have comparable anti-hypercholesterolemic effect with the commercial hypocholesterolemic ***,kenaf seed could be used as an alternative natural source lo replace the synthetic hypocholosterolemic drugs.

Controllable Synthesis of Co304 from Nanosize to Microsize with Large-Scale Exposure of Active Crystal Planes and Their Excellent Rate Capability in Supercapacitors Based on the Crystal Plane Effect

Co3O4 nanorods, nanobelts, nanosheets and cubic/octahedral nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized with tunable size from the nanoscale to the microscale, accompanied by a variation in the nature of the exposed crystal planes. The products are formed by thermal treatment of Co（CO3）05（OH）-0.11H2O nanorod, nanobelt, nanosheet and nanocubic/nanooctahedral precursors at 250 ℃. Detailed characterization, including X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）, and nitrogen adsorption and desorption isotherms, revealed that the as-prepared nanorods, nanobelts, and nanosheet Co3O4 samples are single crystalline and mesoporous in nature with a predominance of exposed high-energy （11-0） crystal planes. They exhibited excellent electrochemical properties in supercapacitors, showing higher capacitance and better rate capability than conventional cubic/octahedral COBO4 nanoparticles having exposed low-energy （100） and （111） planes. No decay in capacitance was observed when the scan rate was increased from 5 mV/s to 100 mV/s, or from I A/g to 10 A/g. The maximum value of the specific capacitance was calculated to be 162.8 F/g and the capacitance retention reached as high as 90%. Their excellent performance in supercapacitors is believed to result from the large-area exposure of active （110） crystal planes. The Co3O4 nanosheets showed the best performance due to their larger surface area and ability to provide a better pathway for charge transfer, and are promising electrode materials for application in practical supercapacitors.

We aim to evaluate prostate health index as an additional risk-stratification tool in patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions on multiparametric magnetic resonance *** with biochemical or clinical suspicion of having prostate cancer who underwent multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging in two tertiary centers(Queen Mary Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital,Hong Kong,China)between January 2017 and June 2022 were ***-magnetic resonance imaging fusion biopsies were performed after prostate health index *** who only had Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions were further stratified into four prostate health index risk groups and the cancer detection rates were *** of the 747 patients,47.3%had Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 lesions *** detection rate of clinically significant prostate cancer in this group was 15.0%.The cancer detection rates of clinically significant prostate cancer had statistically significant differences:5.3%in prostate health indexng the patients,26.9%could have avoided a biopsy with a prostate health indexng clinically significant prostate *** health index could be used as an additional risk stratification tool for patients with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System score 3 *** could be avoided in patients with low prostate health index,with a small risk of missing clinically significant prostate cancer.

Unveiling the Initial Conditions of Open Star Cluster Formation

Open clusters(OCs)are infrequent survivors of embedded clusters gestated in molecular *** to now,little is known about the initial conditions for the formation of ***,we studied this issue using high-precision astrometric parameters provided by Gaia data release *** statistics show that the peculiar motion velocities of OCs vary slightly from infancy to old age,providing a remarkable opportunity to use OCs to trace their *** a dynamical method,we derived the masses of the progenitor clumps where OCs were born,which have statistical characteristics comparable to previously known results for clumps observed in the ***,the masses of the progenitor clumps of OCs indicate they should be capable of gestating massive O-type *** fact,after inspecting the observed OCs and O-type stars,we found that there are many O-type stars in *** destructive stellar feedback from O-type stars may disintegrate the vast majority of embedded clusters,and only those sufficiently dense ones can survive as OCs.

Effect of a high strength chemical industry wastewater on microbial community dynamics and mesophilic methane generation

A high strength chemical industry wastewater was assessed for its impact on anaerobic microbial com- munity dynamics and consequently mesophilic methane generation. Cumulative methane production was 251 mL/g total chemical oxygen demand removed at standard temperature and pressure at the end of 30 days experimental period with a highest recorded methane percentage of 80.6% of total biogas volume. Volatile fatty acids （VFAs） analysis revealed that acetic acid was the major intermediate VFAs produced with propionic acid accumulating over the experimental period. Quantitative analysis of microbial communities in the test and control groups with quantitative real time polymerase chain reaction highlighted that in the test group, Eubacteria （96.3%） was dominant in comparison with methanogens （3.7%）. The latter were dominated by Methanomicrobiales and Methanobacteriales while in test groups increased over the experimental period, reaching a maximum on day 30. Denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis profile was performed, targeting the 16S rRNA gene of Eubacteria and Archaea, with the DNA samples extracted at 3 different time points from the test groups. A phylogenetic tree was constructed for the sequences using the neighborhood joining method. The analysis revealed that the presence of organisms resembling Syntrophomonadaceae could have contributed to increased production of acetic and propionic acid intermediates while decrease of organisms resembling Pelotomaculum sp. could have most likely contributed to accumulation of propionic acid. This study suggested that the degradation of organic components within the high strength industrial wastewater is closely linked with the activity of certain niche microbial communities within eubacteria and methanogens.

WIDE-BAND LASER CLADDIng: WEAR AND CORROSION RESISTANCE OF A Ni-BASED ALLOy

A novel wide-band laser cladding system, with high rate of cladding, has been developed in the present work. The system mainly consisted of a 5kW CO2 laser, an automatic powder feeder and a wide-band scanning rotative polygon mirror which can produce a linear or rectangular focused laser beam. Using this system, a Ni-Cr-Si-B alloy powder was cladded on the surface of type 321 austenitic stainless steel in order to improve its wear and corrosion resistance. The pitting corrosion, high temperature oxidation and wear tests were conducted in order to evaluate the properties of the laser cladded layer. The results demonstrated that the cladded layer can significantly improve the adhesive wear and pitting corrosion resistance of the substrate. Moreover, the cladded layer exhibited good oxidation resistance, which is almost the same as that of GMR-235D Ni-based superalloy.

Integrated hybrid sensing and microenergy for compact active microsystems

Wearable electronics,as essential components of the Internet of Things(IoT),have attracted widespread attention,and the trend is to configure attractive wearable smart microsystems by integrating sensing,powering,and other,***,we developed an elastic hybrid triboelectric-electromagnetic microenergy harvester(named EHTE)to realize hybrid sensing and microenergy *** EHTE is a highly integrated triboelectric nanogenerator(TEng)and electromagnetic nanogenerator(EMG).Based on the triboelectric-electromagnetic hybrid mechanism,an enhanced electrical output of the EHTE was achieved successfully,which demonstrates the feasibility of the EHTE for microelectronics ***,with the merits of the EMG,the developed hybrid microenergy harvester integrated both active frequency sensing and passive inductive sensing ***,the almost linear correlation of the electromagnetic outputs to the frequencies of the external stimulus endowed the proposed EHTE with an outstanding active frequency sensing *** addition,due to the unique structural configuration of the EMG(i.e,a conductive permanent magnet(PM),hybrid deformation layer,and flexible printed circuit board(FPCB)coil),an opportunity was provided for the developed EHTE to serve as a passive inductive sensor based on the eddy current effect(ie.,a form of electromagnetic induction).Therefore,the developed EHTE successfully achieved the integration of hybrid sensing(i.e,active frequency sensing and passive inductive sensing)and microenergy(ie,the combination of electromagnetic effect and triboelectric effect)within a single device,which demonstrates the potential of this newly developed EHTE for wearable electronic applications,especially in applications of compact active microsystems.

On generation source sites of internal waves in the Luzon Strait

This effort aims to determine the generation source sites in the Luzon Strait for energetic, long-crest, transbasin internal waves （IW） observed in the northern South China Sea （NSCS）. The roles of islands distributed on eastern side of the strait, Kuroshio, submarine ridges, shoaling thennocline, and strait configuration played in the IW generation are examined using the cruise data analysis, satellite data interpretation, and dynamical analysis. The islands and channels on eastern side of the strait are excluded from a list of possible IW source sites owing to their unmatched horizontal dimensions to the scale of IW crest line length, and the relative low Reynolds number. The Kuroshio has a potential to be a radiator for the long-crest IW disturbances, meanwhile, the Kurosbio west （east） wing absorbs the eastward （westward） propagating IW disturbance. Namely, the Kuroshio blockades the outside west-east propagating IW disturbances. The 3-D configuration of the Luzon Strait is characterized by a sudden, more than one order widening of the cross-section areas at the outlets on both sides, providing a favorable condition for IW type initial disturbance formation. In the Luzon Strait, the thermocline is featured by a westward shoaling all the year around, providing the dynamical conditions for the amplitude growth （declination） to the westward （eastward） propagating IW type disturbance. Thus, the west slope of western submarine ridge at the western outlet of the Luzon Strait is a high possibility source sites for energetic, long-crest, transbasin IWs in the NSCS. The interpretation results of satellite SAR images during a 13 a period from 1995 to 2007 provide the convincing evidence for the conclusions.

The dynamic responses of lamellar and equiaxed nearβ-Ti alloys subjected to multi-pass cross rolling

This work gives a comparison on the microstructural characteristics,textural discrepancies,and twinning behaviors of lamellar and equiaxed nearβ-Ti alloys during multi-pass cross rolling with a rolling reduction of 20%,50%and 80%.The results showed that the restoration mechanism of the alloy inβphase is strongly dependent on theαmorphologies,and in comparison,strain path has weaker influences on the grain refinement of theβ***,the texture intensities of bothαandβphases were weakened owing to the dynamic recrystallization(DRX)of the two phases in the equiaxed ***,with regard to the lamellar microstructure,dynamic recovery(DRV)of theβphase predominated,forming elongatedβ***,theαandβmatrix in lamellar microstructures obeyed the Burgers orientation relationship,which was gradually broken down until the final ***,the{1101}twinning exhibits a strong size *** the continuous DRX ofαphases,theα-twinning is suppressed owing to progressive grain *** activation ofβ-twinning,namely{332}?113?and{112}?111?,in nearβ-Ti alloys is heavily dependent on the deficientβ-stabilizing elements and the local stress *** findings provide an effective way to obtain ultra-fine grain microstructures of this alloy.
