How to establish a self‐equilibrium configuration is vital for further kinematics and dynamics analyses of tensegrity *** this study,for investigating tensegrity form‐finding problems,a concise and efficient dynamic relaxation‐noise tolerant zeroing neural network(DR‐NTZNN)form‐finding algorithm is established through analysing the physical properties of tensegrity *** addition,the non‐linear constrained opti-misation problem which transformed from the form‐finding problem is solved by a sequential quadratic programming ***,the noise may produce in the form‐finding process that includes the round‐off errors which are brought by the approximate matrix and restart point calculating course,disturbance caused by external force and manufacturing error when constructing a tensegrity ***,for the purpose of suppressing the noise,a noise tolerant zeroing neural network is presented to solve the search direction,which can endow the anti‐noise capability to the form‐finding model and enhance the calculation ***,the dynamic relaxation method is contributed to seek the nodal coordinates rapidly when the search direction is *** numerical results show the form‐finding model has a huge capability for high‐dimensional free form cable‐strut mechanisms with complicated ***,comparing with other existing form‐finding methods,the contrast simulations reveal the excellent anti‐noise performance and calculation capacity of DR‐NTZNN form‐finding algorithm.

Sheltering effect of punched steel plate sand fences for controlling blown sand hazards along the Golmud-Korla Railway:Field observation and numerical simulation studies

Sand fences made of punched steel plate(PSP)have recently been applied to control wind-blown sand in desertified and Gobi areas due to their strong wind resistance and convenient in situ ***,few studies have assessed the protective effect of PSP sand fences,especially through field *** study analyzes the effects of double-row PSP sand fences on wind and sand resistance using field observations and a computational fluid dynamics(CFD)numerical *** results of field observations showed that the average windproof efficiencies of the first-row and second-row sand fences were 79.8%and 70.8%,***,the average windproof efficiencies of the numerical simulation behind the first-row and second-row sand fences were 89.8%and 81.1%,*** sand-resistance efficiency of the double-row PSP sand fences was 65.4%.Sand deposition occurred close to the first-row sand fence;however,there was relatively little sand on the leeward side of the second-row sand *** length of sand accumulation near PSP sand fences obtained by numerical simulation was basically consistent with that through field observations,indicating that field observations combined with numerical simulation can provide insight into the complex wind-blown sand field over PSP sand *** study indicates that the protection efficiency of the double-row PSP sand fences is sufficient for effective control of sand hazards associated with extremely strong wind in the Gobi *** output of this work is expected to improve the future application of PSP sand fences.

The costs of socializing with government officials:A new measure of corporate political connections

We construct a new measure to capture corporate political connections, which is based on the amount a corporation spends on socializing with government officials. We examine the validity of this measure using the exogenous turnover of top local officials and find that firms increase their political networking expenditures when top local officials are replaced. Compared to state-owned enterprises(SOEs), non-state-owned enterprises(non-SOEs) react more aggressively to changes in local officials, which implies that non-SOEs have stronger incentives to build political connections with officials through social intercourse. We also find that firms located in regions with low levels of marketization react more aggressively to the turnover of local politicians. In addition, we find a positive effect of corporate political socializing expenditures on corporate performance and valuation, which suggests that political connections built through social intercourse benefit corporations.

Metamorphic P-T-t Path of UHT Granulites from the North Tongbai Orogen, Central China

Although zircon U-Pb geochronometer has been widely used for dating metamorphism in moderate- to high-grade metamorphic rocks, it is still difficult to link the zircon U-Pb age to pressure and temperature （P-T） conditions. In this study, zircon trace elements and Hf isotopes and REE partitioning between zircon and garnet are adopted to track the formation condition of zircon in the granu- lites from North Tongbai Orogen, Central China. Combined with previous metamorphic P-T path results, a quantitative integrated anticlockwise P-T-t path was established for Tongbai granulites. These grauulites recorded an early low-P heating followed by a dramatic pressure increase. Evidence for the prograde history （M1） is provided by cordierite, orthopyroxene and biotite inclusions in garnet. The prograde metamorphism occurred at around 443±3 Ma, with P-T conditions of ca. 730-820 ℃ and 〈6 kbar. The peak metamorphic （M2） condition is 〉920 ℃ and 8.5-10 kbar and the peak metamorphism age is ca. 432±4 Ma. At around 419 Ma, the granulites suffered an amphibolite-facies retrograde metamorphism （M3）, represented by the replacement of garnet by biotite and plagioclase, and clinopyroxene by amphibole, with metamorphic condition of ca. 700℃ and ca. 7 kbar. The last retrograde metamorphism （M4） is a greenschist-facies overprint with an age of ca. 404 Ma. It is concluded that the meta- morphism of Tongbai granulite lasted for more than 40 Ma, including a stage of more than 20 Ma granulitc-facies metamorphism. The prolonged granulite-facies metamorphism resulted from the continuous northward subduction of the Shangdan oceanic crust beneath the North Qinling terrane.

Osteoblast Behavior on Hierarchical Micro-/Nano-Structured Titanium Surface

In the present work, osteoblast behavior on a hierarchical micro-/nano-structured titanium surface was investigated. A hi- erarchical hybrid micro-/nano-structured titanium surface topography was produced via Electrolytic Etching （EE）. MG-63 cells were cultured on disks for 2 h to 7 days. The osteoblast response to the hierarchical hybrid micro-/nano-structured titanium surface was evaluated through the osteoblast cell morphology, attachment and proliferation. For comparison, MG-63 cells were also cultured on Sandblasted and Acid-etched （SEA） as well as Machined （M） surfaces respectively. The results show signifi- cant differences in the adhesion rates and proliferation levels of MG-63 cells on EE, SLA, and M surfaces. Both adhesion rate and proliferation level on EE surface are higher than those on SLA and M surfaces. Therefore, we may expect that, comparing with SLA and M surfaces, bone growth on EE surface could be accelerated and bone formation could be promoted at an early stage, which could be applied in the clinical practices for immediate and early-stage loadings.

Inspired by biological ion channels,numerous artificial asymmetric ion channels have been synthesized to facilitate the fabrication of ionic ***,the creation of biomimetic asymmetric ion channels necessitates expensive scientific apparatus and intricate material processing procedures,which constrains its advancement within the realm of ionic *** this study,we have devised dynamic asymmetric ion channels with mechanical responsiveness by combining polymers of varying elastic modulus along the longitudinal axis of carbon nanotube fiber(CNTF).The ion rectification can be modulated via the disparate response of CNTF-based ion channels to mechanical *** have effectively employed these asymmetric ion channels with mechanical sensitivity in the design of a logic gate device,achieving logic operations such as“AND”and“OR”.The conception of these dynamic asymmetric ion channels with mechanical sensitivity offers a straightforward,cost-effective,and versatile approach for generating ion channels,highlighting their potential application in intricate,highly integrated ionic circuits.

Mechanical performance study of the retractable pier column after stiffening

To solve the problem that the overlapping parts of a retractable pier column are prone to damage,this paper proposed the reinforcing measure of setting a stiffener ring at the bottom of the steel *** study how the stiffener-ring parameters influence the mechanical properties of the pier column.12 scale model specimens(including nine specimens with stiffener-ring widths of 40,50,and 60 mm and three unstiffened comparison specimens)were tested under axial *** on the test results,the specimen load-displacement,load-deflection,and load-strain curves were analyzed,and a finite-element model of a pier column under axial compression was established to determine the optimal stiffener *** results show that setting a stiffener ring enhances the cooperative working ability between the steel pipe and the internal filling material and restrains the lateral deformation of the pier column,thereby improving the ultimate bearing capacity and overall stability of the pier *** ultimate bearing capacity of the pier column is related to the width and thickness of the stiffener *** optimal size of the stiffener ring of the model pier column is 70 mm in width and 4 mm in *** present research results provide a reference for designing compressible pier columns and column stiffening in mines and have important practical significance.

An arch-shape wood evaporator decorated by metal-organic framework for solar interface evaporation

To achieve sustainable desalination and water purification,solar interface evaporation technology is an effective means due to its high energy *** photothermal conversion materials and surface design are crucial for the interfacial solar evaporation *** to design water transport routes and thermal insulating layers simultaneously is one of the major challenges to solar interface evaporation technology ***,this work reports an arch-shaped wood evaporator(pine@carbon black(CB)-metal-organic framework-801(MOF-801)-36%)for efficient,fast and continuous interfacial solar evaporation,which is composed of an arch-shaped wood substrate,MOF-801,and CB as a light absorption *** archshaped structure has a double-sided evaporation effect,which has a synergistic effect on augmenting solar evaporation *** addition,the in-situ growth of MOF-801 in pretreated wood microchannels renders the wood evaporator a significant function of reducing the equivalent enthalpy of evaporation due to the reduction of the hydrogen bonding density of water molecules as they pass through the wood *** best evaporation rate of the arch-shaped wood evaporator can reach 2.535 kg·m^(−2)·h^(−1),and the efficiency reaches 93.7%under the irradiation of 1 sun ***,it could be used for desalination and wastewater treatment to collect fresh water that meets drinking requirements set by the World Health Organization(WHO).This integrated evaporator provides an efficient way for commercial portable photothermal conversion and new ideas for advanced solar-driven water treatment technology.

Enhanced bioproduction of chitin in engineered Pichia pastoris

Biopolymer chitin and its derivatives have a wide range of applications in different *** is primarily produced from marine crustacean by strong acid and strong alkali *** reduce the environmental hazardous in the production of chitin,post-fermentation fungal biomass waste like fungi cell walls provides a viable alternative source for *** this study,improved chitin content in yeast cell wall was achieved by overexpressing chitin biosyntheic pathway related *** chitin content was 51.5μg/mg cell wall and 122.9μg/mg cell wall in strain GS-1.10(gfat,uap and chs1 genes overexpression)and strain GS-2.6(gfat,gna1,agm1,uap and chs1 genes overexpression),which were 44.3%and 244.4%higher than that in control strain GS115,*** overexpressing another chitin synthase gene(chs3),the chitin content in strain GS-3.10 was further increased to 136.2μg/mg cell wall,which was 10.8%and 281.6%higher than that in GS-2.6 and in control GS115,***,chitin yield was further improved by various culture conditions optimization,and reached 162.4μg/mg cell wall,which was 4.43 times of that in the starting strain *** final titer of chitin was 2.23 g/L culture broth in 84 h fed-batch fermentation in a 5 L *** our knowledge,this is the first report of chitin production in engineered Pichia pastoris via biosynthetic pathway enhancement.
