Globalization increases the risk of cross-border transmission of infectious and non-infectious diseases.

In line with the worldwide trend in population aging,China has stepped into an aging society since 2000.The outstanding features of aging,including a large proportion of the older population,rapid growth,dramatic expansion of the oldest-old,and uneven aging distribution,have put China in a unique position.Besides,older population is expanding in parallel with the escalating burden of disease,high prevalence of disability,and low social involvement.However,China is not prepared to solve these problems in terms of the economy,awareness,geriatric care system,geriatric team,social security,or age-friendly environment.From the perspective of public health,we summarized the major challenges and proposed the following policy recommendations:(1)strengthening the top-level design and building a"government-leading,multi-sectoral-cooperating,and society-participating"pattern;(2)enhancing health services by implementing the"comprehensive health"strategy;(3)developing home and community care,coordinately enhance institutional care,promote integration of medical and care systems,and establish a multidimensional tailored care system;(4)optimizing geriatric the supporting system,included the construction of geriatric team and the long-term care insurance system;and(5)establishing a physical and socially age-friendly environment.

Minimizing N2O fluxes from full-scale municipal solid waste landfill with properly selected cover soil

Municipal solid waste landfills emit nitrous oxide （N2O） gas. Assuming that the soil cover is the primary N2O source from landfills, this study tested, during a four-year project, the hypothesis that the proper use of chosen soils with fine texture minimizes N2O emissions. A full-scale sanitary landfill, a full-scale bioreactor landfill and a cell planted with Nerium indicum or Festuca arundinacea Schreb, at the Hangzhou Tianziling landfill in Hangzhou City were the test sites. The N2O emission rates from all test sites were considerably lower than those reported in the published reports. Specifically, the N2O emission rate was dependent on soil water content and nitrate concentrations in the cover soil. The effects of leachate recirculation and irrigation were minimal. Properly chosen cover soils applied to the landfills reduced N2O flux.

Functional tissue engineering strategies provide innovative approach for the repair and regeneration of damaged cartilage.Hydrogel is widely used because it could provide rapid defect filling and proper structure support,and is biocompatible for cell aggregation and matrix deposition.Efforts have been made to seek suitable scaffolds for cartilage tissue engineering.Here Alg-DA/Ac-β-CD/gelatin hydrogel was designed with the features of physical and chemical multiple crosslinking and self-healing properties.Gelation time,swelling ratio,biodegradability and biocompatibility of the hydrogels were systematically characterized,and the injectable self-healing adhesive hydrogel were demonstrated to exhibit ideal properties for cartilage repair.Furthermore,the new hydrogel design introduces a pre-gel state before photo-crosslinking,where increased viscosity and decreased fluidity allow the gel to remain in a semi-solid condition.This granted multiple administration routes to the hydrogels,which brings hydrogels the ability to adapt to complex clinical situations.Pulsed electromagnetic fields(PEMF)have been recognized as a promising solution to various health problems owing to their noninvasive properties and therapeutic potentials.PEMF treatment offers a better clinical outcome with fewer,if any,side effects,and wildly used in musculoskeletal tissue repair.Thereby we propose PEMF as an effective biophysical stimulation to be 4th key element in cartilage tissue engineering.In this study,the as-prepared Alg-DA/Ac-β-CD/gelatin hydrogels were utilized in the rat osteochondral defect model,and the potential application of PEMF in cartilage tissue engineering were investigated.PEMF treatment were proven to enhance the quality of engineered chondrogenic constructs in vitro,and facilitate chondrogenesis and cartilage repair in vivo.All of the results suggested that with the injectable self-healing adhesive hydrogel and PEMF treatment,this newly proposed tissue engineering strategy revealed superior clinical potential for cartilag

Meniscus,the cushion in knee joint,is a load-bearing tissue that transfers mechanical forces to extracellular matrix(ECM)and tissue resident cells.The mechanoresponse of human tissue resident stem/progenitor cells in meniscus(hMeSPCs)is significant to tissue homeostasis and regeneration but is not well understood.This study reports that a mild cyclic tensile loading regimen of~1800 loads/day on hMeSPCs seeded in 3-dimensional(3D)photocrosslinked gelatin methacryloyl(GelMA)hydrogel is critical in maintaining cellular homeostasis.Experimentally,a“slow walk”biomimetic cyclic loading regimen(10%tensile strain,0.5 Hz,1 h/day,up to 15 days)is applied to hMeSPCs encapsulated in GelMA hydrogel with a magnetic force-controlled loading actuator.The loading significantly increases cell differentiation and fibrocartilage-like ECM deposition without affecting cell viability.Transcriptomic analysis reveals 332 mechanoresponsive genes,clustered into cell senescence,mechanical sensitivity,and ECM dynamics,associated with interleukins,integrins,and collagens/matrix metalloproteinase pathways.The cell-GelMA constructs show active ECM remodeling,traced using a green fluorescence tagged(GFT)-GelMA hydrogel.Loading enhances nascent pericellular matrix production by the encapsulated hMeSPCs,which gradually compensates for the hydrogel loss in the cultures.These findings demonstrate the strong tissue-forming ability of hMeSPCs,and the importance of mechanical factors in maintaining meniscus homeostasis.

Switchgrass（Panicum virgatum L.） is a perennial C_4 grass native to North America and successfully adapted to diverse environmental conditions. It offers the potential to reduce soil surface carbon dioxide（CO_2） fluxes and mitigate climate change. However, information on how these CO_2 fluxes respond to changing climate is still lacking. In this study, CO_2 fluxes were monitored continuously from 2011 through 2014 using high frequency measurements from Switchgrass land seeded in 2008 on an experimental site that has been previously used for soybean（Glycine max L.） in South Dakota, USA. DAYCENT, a process-based model, was used to simulate CO_2 fluxes. An improved methodology CPTE[Combining Parameter estimation（PEST） with ＂Trial and Error＂ method] was used to calibrate DAYCENT. The calibrated DAYCENT model was used for simulating future CO_2 emissions based on different climate change scenarios. This study showed that：（i） the measured soil CO_2 fluxes from Switchgrass land were higher for 2012 which was a drought year, and these fluxes when simulated using DAYCENT for long-term（2015–2070） provided a pattern of polynomial curve;（ii） the simulated CO_2 fluxes provided different patterns with temperature and precipitation changes in a long-term,（iii） the future CO_2 fluxes from Switchgrass land under different changing climate scenarios were not significantly different, therefore, it can be concluded that Switchgrass grown for longer durations could reduce changes in CO_2 fluxes from soil as a result of temperature and precipitation changes to some extent.

Secure and reliable group communication is an increasingly active research area by growing popularity in group-oriented and collaborative applications. In this paper, we propose the first identity-based authenticated group key agreement in multiple private key generators （PKG） environment. It is inspired on a new two-party identity-based key agreement protocol first proposed by Hoonjung lee et al. In our scheme, although each member comes from different domain and belongs to different PKGs which do not share the common system parameters, they can agree on a shared secret group key. We show that our scheme satisfies every security requirements of the group key agreement protocols.

The colonization of maize(Zea mays L.) and peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.) by the fungal pathogen Aspergillus flavus results in the contamination of kernels with carcinogenic mycotoxins known as aflatoxins leading to economic losses and potential health threats to humans. The regulation of aflatoxin biosynthesis in various Aspergillus spp. has been extensively studied, and has been shown to be related to oxidative stress responses. Given that environmental stresses such as drought and heat stress result in the accumulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS) within host plant tissues, host-derived ROS may play an important role in cross-kingdom communication between host plants and A. flavus. Recent technological advances in plant breeding have provided the tools necessary to study and apply knowledge derived from metabolomic, proteomic, and transcriptomic studies in the context of productive breeding populations. Here, we review the current understanding of the potential roles of environmental stress, ROS, and aflatoxin in the interaction between A.flavus and its host plants, and the current status in molecular breeding and marker discovery for resistance to A. flavus colonization and aflatoxin contamination in maize and peanut. We will also propose future directions and a working model for continuing research efforts linking environmental stress tolerance and aflatoxin contamination resistance in maize and peanut.

Poincaré and Logarithmic Sobolev inequalities for nearly radial measures

Poincaré inequality has been studied by Bobkov for radial measures, but few is known about the logarithmic Sobolev inequality in the radial case. We try to fill this gap here using different methods: Bobkov’s argument and super-Poincare′ inequalities, direct approach via L1-logarithmic Sobolev inequalities. We also give various examples where the obtained bounds are quite sharp. Recent bounds obtained by lee-Vempala in the log-concave bounded case are refined for radial measures.
