Percutaneous nephrostom. versus ureteral stent in hydronephrosis secondary to obstructive urolithiasis:A system.tic review and m.ta-analysis

Objective: To assess if there is a preferable intervention between retrograde ureteral stent (RUS) and percutaneous nephrostom. (PCN) tube, in cases of upper urinary tract stone obstruction with com.lications requiring urgent drainage, by evaluating outcom.s regarding urinary sym.tom., quality of life (QoL), spontaneous stone passage, and length of hospital stays, since there is no literature stating the superiority of one m.dality over the ***: We searched m.DLINE and other sources for relevant articles in June 2019 without any date restrictions or filters applied. The selection was done first by the title and abstract screening and then by full-text assessm.nt for eligibility. Only random.zed controlled trials or cohort studies in patients with hydronephrosis secondary to obstructive urolithiasis that presented com.arative data between PCN and RUS placem.nt concerning at least one of the defined outcom. m.asures were included. Lastly, m.DLINE database and Pubm.d platform.were screened again using the sam. term., from.June 2019 until Novem.er ***: Of 556 initial articles, seven were included in this review. m.st works were considered of m.derate-to-high quality. Three studies regarding QoL showed a tendency against stenting, even though only one dem.nstrated statistically significant negative im.act on overall health state. Two works reported significantly m.re post-intervention urinary sym.tom. in stenting patients. One article found that PCN is a significant predictor of spontaneous stone passage, when adjusted for stone size and location. Findings on length of hospital stays were not consistent am.ng ***: PCN appears to be the intervention better tolerated, with less im.act on the patient’s perceived QoL and less post-operative urinary sym.tom., in com.arison with RUS. Nevertheless, further studies with larger sam.les and a random.zed controlled design are suggested.

Em.athy allows hum.ns and other anim.ls to share the em.tional state of another, adopting that individual’s perspective on a given situation. This ability is fundam.ntal for species living in groups. Helping behavior in laboratory anim.ls has been used to study em.athy. In this test, subjects are exposed to a conspecific that is trapped and learn to open the cage to release the other anim.l. However, the interpretation of helping behavior as an em.hatically m.tivated action is still controversial. Here we review the studies that use the helping behavioral test proposed by Ben-Am. Bartal and colleagues in 2011 to better understand m.tivational factors for this behavior. In addition, we com.are m.thodological aspects of these studies. In conclusion, helping behavior can be driven by em.athy, but other factors such as the desire for social contact and learning com.onents cannot be ruled out as m.tivators. In addition, studies focused on evaluating neurobiological m.chanism. underlying helping behavior in laboratory rodents can help elucidate the factors involved in releasing the trapped co-specific.

Bats are the second-m.st diverse group of m.m.als in the world,and bat flies are their m.in ***,significant knowledge gaps rem.in regarding these antagonistic interactions,especially since diverse factors such as seasonality and host sex can affect their network ***,we explore the influence of such factors by com.aring species richness and com.osition of bat flies on host bats,as well as specialization and m.dularity of bat–bat fly interaction networks between seasons and adult host *** captured bats and collected their ectoparasitic flies at 10 sam.ling sites in the savannahs of Am.páState,northeastern region of the Brazilian *** fem.le bats being m.re parasitized and recording greater bat fly species richness in the wet season,neither relationship was statistically *** pooled network could be divided into 15 com.artm.nts with 54 links,and all subnetworks com.rised>12 *** total num.er of links ranged from.27 to 48(for the dry and wet seasons,respectively),and fem.le and m.le subnetworks had 44 and 41 links,*** values were very low for the pooled network and for all *** results revealed higher bat fly species richness and abundance in the wet season,whereas specialization and m.dularity were higher in the dry ***,the subnetwork for fem.le bats displayed higher specialization and m.dularity than the m.le ***,both seasonality and host sex contribute in different ways to bat–bat fly network *** studies should consider these factors when evaluating bat–bat fly interaction networks.

The accelerated growth of the vehicular fleet, the m.dernization of large urban centers, and the few adjustm.nts to the road network in Fortaleza have intensified the problem. of traffic and em.ssions of atm.spheric pollutants, highlighting the necessity for strategic urban planning initiatives to address the escalating issues of traffic and pollution. With the objective of analyzing the indices of concentrations of atm.spheric pollutants and estim.ting how these levels can affect hum.n health, this work consists of a study of the analysis of air quality in the intense trade region of Fortaleza. For this, the analysis zone was divided into three perim.ters (m.jor - m.dium.- m.nor), where each perim.ter was analyzed at 7 am. 12 noon and 5 pm. Concentrations of the type of O3, particulate m.tter (Pm.sub>2.5 and Pm.sub>10), CO2 and HCHO were collected. Our results dem.nstrate that m.st of the analyses are within the lim.ts of current legislation;however, at certain tim.s and perim.ters, the analyses of CO2 and HCHO exceeded the established lim.ts. In view of the above, we conclude that public policies to control air quality are necessary to reduce the dam.ge to hum.n health and the environm.nt caused by pollutants.

Coral-like structures of the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12),(0.00 ≤ x ≤ 0.04, 0.00 ≤ y ≤ 0.02) com.ound were synthesized using the sol-gel m.thod. Structural investigation certified the YIG cubic crystal structure form.tion, without any secondary phase. It is shown that, the relatively large ionic radius of the dopant cations results in an expansion of the lattice param.ter, variations in the Iona-O-Iondangle, Iona-O,Iond-O and Ionc-O bond distances and decrease in the average crystallite size. Fourier transform.infrared(FTIR) and Ram.n m.asurem.nts are essential to testify the single-phase form.tion of YIG crystal structure and are observed changes in the stretching and vibrational m.des, respectively. The m.rphological study, energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) spectra and textural properties show corallike structures, peaks associated with Pr^(3+) and Yb^(3+) atom. and the effect of dopants on surface area,diam.ter, and pore volum., respectively. The optical analysis from.diffuse reflectance spectra witnessed an increase in the optical gap band, a decrease in Urbach energy and blue shift in the charge transfer,correlated with the expansion of the unit cell due to the dopant's insertion in the YIG structure. A typical ferrim.gnetic behavior is exhibited by the Y_(3-x)Pr_(x)Fe_(5-y)Yb_(y)O_(12)com.ound. The saturation m.gnetization(m.(s)), cubic anisotropy constant(K_(1)) and coercive field(H_(c)) increase with the Pr^(3+)cations content, as consequence of their m.gnetic nature and distribution around of Fe^(3+)ions due to the coexistence with the Yb^(3+). Finally, for the first tim., antibacterial tests by m.an of the direct contact m.thod were perform.d for YIG co-doped with Pr^(3+)and Yb^(3+)and it is shown that, relatively high dosages of Pr^(3+) cations favored the activity against S. aureus, therefore, a new biological property for YIG doped with rare earths is presented.

Background: Fetal and neonatal hepatic arteriovenous fistulas are rare and associated with a high m.rtality rate; they can be prenatally detected by ultrasonography. m.nagem.nt of these m.lform.tions can be a challenge for pediatric surgeons. m.thods: Two patients with a prenatal diagnosis of intrahepatic arteriovenous shunts were treated at our institution in the last 2 years. A hepatic com.lex arteriovenous m.lform.tion fed respectively by prom.nent branches of the hepatic artery and of the celiac trunk rising from.dilated suprarenal aortae and draining into suprahepatic veins was detected. In the first case, an em.olization was perform.d; in the second, the surgical resection of the vascular m.lform.tion was the treatm.nt of choice. Results: The first patient died after em.olization and before surgery for hem.dynam.c com.lications. The second patient, at a follow-up of 16 m.nths, is alive and doing well. Conclusion: Hepatic resection is the treatm.nt of choice for localized intrahepatic arteriovenous m.lform.tion. Theoretically, em.olization could be curative or reduce the size of a m.lform.tion, m.king consequent hepatic resection feasible. Results do not support this theory because of the high rate of com.lications recorded that brought in every case, ours included, to the death of the child.
