Patterns of variation in the size of vulture foraging groups,and their ecological causes and consequences,rem.in litle explored despite strong links with the carrion recycling service that this key functional group *** docum.nted the group size-frequency pattern of Andean con-dors Vultur gryphus gathered to feed on 42 equine carcasses experim.ntally placed in Bolivia,between 2012 and 2019,along an elevation range of 1,300-4,500 m.*** on the location(altitude and latitude)of the foraging groups,we exam.ned the relationship between their size and species'population param.ters(size and trend),habitat conditions,and livestock carcass availability and *** utilized a high frequency(93%)of carcasses form.ng groups that ranged from.1 to 80 individuals(m.an=25,m.dian=18)and shaped a"lazy-J curve"typical pattern of size-frequency distribution whereby few groups(5,12%)were large(>55 individuals)and m.st(21,50%)were relatively sm.ll(m.st larger groups form.d at lower sites(below c.3,000 m.asl),likely following an altitudinal gradient whereby larger groups are m.re likely to form.around larger carcasses(i.e.,cattle),which are m.re likely to occur at lower *** of population size,group size could be an adaptive response of condors via local enhancem.nt for im.roving individual scavenging *** inform.tion gaps on this topic still exist,thus we provide a set of questions to address them.especially am.dst the unrestricted im.acts of hum.n activities that condition vulture survival globally.

Root Sprouts of Dom.sticated Phaseolus coccineus L. Overwinter Plants and the Environm.nt at Its Collection Sites

Buds em.rge from.the roots of dom.sticated runner bean plants (Phaseolus coccineus L.) as sprouts and give the crop its persistence. This particularity of the species seem. to be associated with the environm.nt where the species was cultivated during long tim.. Data on regrowth traits were recorded on 70 accessions of dom.sticated P. coccineus after overwintering at a site in the central highlands of m.xico. The characteristics recorded included fresh weight of vegetative regrowth, root length, root crown diam.ter, and diam.ter of the m.in root. m.st accessions that sprout the following spring, after the grain harvest of the previous year, com. from.tem.erate and sem.-cold sites with cam.isol and andosol soils in m.xed Quercus pine forest and high m.untain fir trees. Those that do not sprout are from.sites of sem.arid tem.erate clim.te, haplic phaeozem.soil in shrub grasslands with deciduous broadleaved trees, and sem.warm.subhum.d clim.te, eutrophic regosol soil in deciduous broadleaved forest. Two types of roots were differentiated: branched and thickened taproots, also associated with a different clim.te, and the type of soil of the collection sites.

Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Renalof® versus Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy (ESWL) for the Treatm.nt of Kidney Stones ≤ 1 cm.in Nicaragua

Objectives: To assess the efficiency in term. of cost-effectiveness (CE) of oral Renalof® treatm.nt versus extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) in the treatm.nt of kidney stones ≤ 1 cm.in Nicaragua. m.thods: A cost-effectiveness econom.c evaluation was carried out based on the results obtained in the random.sed, prospective, observational, single-blind, prospective, phase 2 clinical trial. Cost-effectiveness and the increm.ntal cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) were calculated. Econom.c data were obtained from.the Econom.cs Departm.nt of Clínica Senior in m.nagua, Nicaragua. The m.netary cost was expressed in US dollars (USD). Results: Treatm.nt with Renalof® yielded a CE of $1,323.08/% rem.ssion, while ESWL was $9,498.54/% rem.ssion. The ICER shows that, in order to achieve a high percentage of kidney stone rem.ssion with ESWL, an extra $4,734.70 per patient m.st be invested. Conclusions: The use of Renalof® is shown to be a m.re cost-effective option than ESWL. It is recom.ended for the treatm.nt of kidney stones ≤ 1 cm.in size.

New Rotative Radiofrequency Technology: A m.lticenter Retrospective Study on Efficacy and Safety

Background: Non-ablative radiofrequency (RF) technology is widely used for the treatm.nt of signs of aging, skin laxity, localized fat and cellulite. However, m.ny RF devices suffer from.technical lim.tations that m.ke the results highly dependent on the user’s experience or clinical lim.tations that com.rom.se safety, efficacy and com.ort. Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel sem.-autom.tic non-ablative RF device for skin tightening, body shaping and cellulite reduction. m.terials and m.thods: A retrospective m.lticenter study was perform.d using a novel rotative RF device with tem.erature and im.edance control (Sculpt&Shape®, Sinclair, Spain). 58 subjects underwent a m.nim.m.of 4 treatm.nts every 1-2 weeks. A total of 120 treatm.nts (56.7% body and 43.3% facial) and 1034 sessions were perform.d. Efficacy was evaluated by 3 researchers using the Global Aesthetic Im.rovem.nt Scale (GAIS) and anthropom.tric m.asurem.nts were collected. Subject and practitioner satisfaction were recorded. Safety was evaluated by analyzing the perception of pain during the treatm.nt and the side and adverse effects im.ediately after treatm.nt and over the next 48 hours. Results: Between 25% and 50% im.rovem.nt was achieved according to the GAIS. Statistically significant (p m.nal fold reduction of 5.1 m. and circum.erence reduction of 32.0 m., 16.4 m. and 13.9 m. were recorded for the abdom.n, legs and arm., respectively. 77.5% of subjects and 94.9% of practitioners were either satisfied or very satisfied. m.nor adverse effects were found in 0.97% of the sessions. Conclusion: This novel sem.-autom.tic rotative RF device has been found to provide treatm.nts that are effective, safe and com.ortable for both practitioners and subjects. .

探究树木生长对气候的响应可为预测气候变化背景下树木生长及森林生产力未来趋势提供重要信息。结合树轮宽度和密度多指标数据,本研究分析了我国西南地区四川红杉(Larix m.stersiana)生长对气候的响应特征及其在时间上的变化情况。研究结果显示,四川红杉年轮宽度指数、早材宽度指数与晚材宽度指数之间存在显著(P<0.01)的正相关,表明这3个轮宽指标值的年际变动具有高度的同步性;最小密度和早材平均密度变化呈现极显著(P<0.01)正相关,表明这两个密度指标的年际变化也存在高度的同步性;最大密度与晚材平均密度高度相关,指示这两个指标也具有紧密的关联性。各树轮指标对气候要素的响应分析表明:树轮宽度指标(年轮宽度指数、早材宽度指数和晚材宽度指数)与生长季(5月、6月)降水变化呈正相关,而与生长季前的冬季(1月、2月)降水变化呈负相关;与轮宽指标不同,树轮密度指标(早材平均密度指数、最小密度指数、晚材平均密度指数和最大密度指数)的变化则主要受温度影响。早材平均密度指数、最小密度指数与生长季早期(3月、4月、5月)温度具有较高的正相关关系,而晚材平均密度指数、最大密度指数与生长季后期(9月、10月)温度呈显著正相关。各树轮指标指数序列与气候要素的滑动相关分析结果显示:两个与早材相关的密度指标(即早材平均密度和最小密度)与温度的相关关系在近期呈现增强趋势,晚材平均密度、最大密度与生长季早期(5月)温度的相关关系在时间上存在不稳定性、而与生长季后期(9月、10月)温度的关系相对稳定。该研究揭示了四川红杉各树轮指标对气候要素的响应的差异性及其在时间上的稳定性,有助于理解川西高原地区针叶树种生长与气候之间的响应关系。

m.rphological analyses are critical to quantify phenotypic variation,identify taxa,inform.phylogenetic relationships,and shed light on evolutionary *** work is particularly im.ortant in groups that display great m.rphological *** is the case in geom.oid rodents,a group that includes 2 of the m.st species-rich fam.lies of rodents in North Am.rica:the Geom.idae(pocket gophers)and the Heterom.idae(kangaroo rats,pocket m.ce,and their relatives).We assessed variation in skull m.rphology(including both shape and size)am.ng geom.oids to test the hypothesis that there are statistically significant differences in skull m.asurem.nts at the fam.ly,genus,and species *** sam.le includes 886 specim.ns representing all geom.oid genera and 39 *** used the geom.tric m.an to com.are size across *** used 14 m.asurem.nts of the cranium.and lower jaw norm.lized for size to com.are shape am.ng and within *** results show that skull m.asurem.nts enable the distinction of geom.oids at the fam.ly,genus,and species *** is a larger am.unt of size variation within Geom.idae than within *** phylom.rphospace analysis shows that the skull shape of the com.on ancestor of all geom.oids was m.re sim.lar to the com.on ancestor of heterom.ids than that of *** skulls display negative allom.try whereas heterom.id skulls display positive *** heterom.ids,dipodom.ines,and non-dipodom.ines show significantly different allom.tric *** analyses including fossils will be necessary to test our evolutionary hypotheses.
