Denitrification in a Soil under Wheat Crop in the Humid Pampas of Argentina

The need to accurately estimate gaseous nitrogen losses from soils is required to have a better understanding of the processes involved as well as soil and environmental conditions, and management practices contributing to these emissions. The objective was to quantify the denitrification rate using undisturbed cores with acetylene, as related to nitrogen (N) fertilization rate in a spring wheat crop (Triticum aestivum L.) under conventional tillage. Soil denitrification losses remained low throughout most of the growing season, when water-filled pore space (WFPS) was below 60%, ranging from 0.79 to 447.3 g N2O-N ha-1•day-1 in the fertilized plot and was less than 47.3 g N2O-N ha-1•day-1 in the control. Denitrification rates were the highest when N fertilizer was applied after frequent and intensive rain. A good correlation was found between the logarithm of the daily denitrification rate and WFPS (r = 0.67, n = 90);however the NO3-N concentration was not a good indicator (r = 0.21, n = 90). Cumulative N2O-N losses by denitrification averaged 3.5 and 0.9 kg N2O-N ha-1 in the fertilized and unfertilized treatment, respectively, during a period of 4 months this difference was not significant. Most N2O-N losses occurred early in the spring;therefore sampling schedules need to focus on this period.

Background:Nanotechnologies promise to improve disease diagnosis and treatment,overcoming the limitations of conventional *** particular,extracellular vesicles(EVs)and artificial vesicles(AVs)are strongly emerging tools in nanomedicine(Leggio et al.,2020).EVs are cell-derived membrane structures secreted after the fusion of endosomes with the plasma membrane(exosomes)or shed from the plasma membrane(microvesicles).EVs are released by different brain cells(neurons,oligodendrocytes,astrocytes,and microglia)and constitute a physiological intercellular communication ***,EVs can deliver different types of molecules(nucleic acids and proteins),which often influence the phenotype of the recipient *** play a physiological role in the central nervous system(CNS),such as development,myelination,regeneration,and synaptic activity(Lai et al.,2012).Due to their content,EVs could therefore constitute an important biomarker for neurodegenerative diseases,represent candidates for therapeutic use,enclosing regulatory molecules,or be considered as vectors for brain drug delivery(Croese et al.,2018).

Metabolomics characterization of colostrum in three sow breeds and its influences on piglets' survival and litter growth rates

Background: Colostrum is the first secretion produced by mammary glands during the hours immediately preceding and succeeding parturition. This secretion differs from milk and represents an essential vehicle of passive immunity,prebiotic compounds and growth factors involved in intestinal development. Most of the literature concerning colostrum composition refers mainly to human and cow; and little is known about pig colostrum metabolome and how it varies between pig breeds and different farrowing parity. Thus, the aim of the present research is to provide new information about pig colostrum composition and the associations between metabolites, the sows' breed and the survival and growth rates of their ***: Colostrum samples were gathered from 58 parturitions of sows belonging to three different breeds chosen for their importance in Italian heavy pig production: 31 Large White, 15 Landrace and 12 Duroc respectively. The defatted and ultrafiltered colostrum samples were analysed using1 H–NMR spectroscopy. Principal Components Analysis(PCA) was assessed on the obtained spectra. In addition, using a Stepwise Regression and a Linear Regression analyses the metabolites named after the signals assignment were tested for their associations with piglets' ***-five metabolites were identified, comprehending monosaccharides, disaccharides(such as lactose), organic acids(lactate, citrate, acetate and formate), nitrogenous organic acids(such as creatine) and other compounds,including nucleotides. PCA results evidence a clustering due to breed and season effects. Lactose was the main compound determining the assignment of the samples into different clusters according to the sow breed. Furthermore, some metabolites showed to be associated with piglets' performance and survival traits: acetate and taurine were positively related to litter weight gain and piglets' survival rate, respectively, while dimethylamine and cis-aconitate were linked to new-borns'

While the occurrence of rainfall is a regional scale phenomenon, cities influence on precipitation spatial distribution patterns and their characteristics. These influences had been studied for a very long time especially in the Northern Hemisphere. Tandil and Bahia Blanca are middle cities of Argentina located in the south of Buenos Aires province. Both present continental template climate. The aim of this research is to analyze the spatial distribution patterns of precipitation and the rainwater pH values for the period October 2010-September 2011 in Tandil and Bahia Blanca. Gauge rain nets were installed in both cities. In each event of precipitation, amount and pH values were collected. Isohyets plotting were included in the thematic cartography that was made using ArcGis 9.3~ software. Although natural rains are generally considered as being weakly acid, the rainwater pH measurements demonstrated that in both cities the rain is alkaline. Regarding to the spatial distribution of the precipitation amounts, the isohyets of the annual records showed that the highest values were registered in areas of higher elevation while the lowest values were presented in both cities downtown, where the high buildings are concentrated.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate perinatal outcome after thoracoamnio tic shunting for fetal pleural effusions with hydrops. This was a retrospective study. Shunting was performed immediately after diagnosis and was successful in all 54 of the cases that were attempted. There were 7 pregnancy terminations, 9 in utero deaths, and 38 live births, of which 7 children died in the neonatal pe riod and 31 children survived. Among the liveborn infants, 27 infants were deliv ered preterm (71%), of whom 7 infants (15%) had preterm premature rupture of m embranes and 4 infants (8.5%) had chorioamnionitis. Perinatal death (23/54 infa nts; 43%) was related to underlying anomalies (7 cases), pulmonary hypoplasia ( 5 cases), chorioamnionitis (2 cases), or treatment failure for unknown reasons ( 9 cases). All 31 survivors had chylothorax; for 28 of the survivors, the chyloth orax was primary, and for 3 survivors, the chylothorax was the result of right c ongenital diaphragmatic hernia, pulmonary sequestration, or Noonan syndrome. Aft er the shunting, pleural effusion with hydrops has a 57%survival rate; prematur e delivery is the leading source of morbidity.
