The growth of Arthrospira platensis and physiological changes in biomass under the effects of six rare earth elements Dy,Sm,Tb,La,Nd and Yb were *** were tested by three concentrations of 10,20 and 30 mg/*** to neutron activation analysis data ***’s accumulation capacity toward studied elements changes in the following order of La>Dy>Nd>Sm>Yb>*** results show that Dy and La ions stimulate biomass growth and Yb ions inhibit it,while Sm,Tb and Nd ions do not affect biomass *** contents of proteins and chlorophyll a are not affected by the presence of rare earth elements in the cultivation *** elements affect to different extents carbohydrates,phycobilins,β-carotene,lipids and MDA contents in spirulina *** in the antioxidant activity under applied metal loads reveal a moderate stress in exposed *** *** can be successfully used for bioremediation of natural water contaminated with REEs as well as REEs recovery from low polluted industrial effluents.

Management of coal mining and coal processing wastes, particularly of high sulfur coals, can generate excessive amounts of sulfate (SO4 2−) and chloride (Cl−) in mine drainage that are known to negatively impact quality of both surface and ground water. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency provides guidance to states on allowable SO4 2− and Cl− discharges from mine sites. This research evaluates the hypothesis that co-disposal of CCPW and FCPW with appropriate compaction can result in improved geochemical and geotechnical environments that will minimize acid mine drainage formation and SO4 2− and Cl− discharges. Addition of ground limestone (ag-lime) to the mix was also evaluated as a drying agent and for improvement in overall geochemistry by buffering higher pH values within the coal waste. These objectives were to develop and implement innovative concepts for engineered co-management of CCPW and FCPW at coal mining sites. The authors performed long-term field column leaching studies to analyze improvement in SO4 2− and Cl− in water quality. Requirements for stricter standards in some states led to the need for development of potentially improved environmental practices. This paper presents the overall encouraging results of the field kinetic studies.

Background:The possibility of assessing meat quality traits over the meat chain is strongly limited,especially in the context of selective breeding which requires a large number of *** main objective of this study was to investigate the suitability of portable infrared spectrometers for phenotyping beef cattle aiming to genetically improving the quality of their *** quality traits(pH,color,water holding capacity,tenderness)were appraised on rib eye muscle samples of 1,327 Piemontese young bulls using traditional(i.e.,reference/gold standard)laboratory analyses;the same traits were also predicted from spectra acquired at the abattoir on the intact muscle surface of the same animals 1 d after *** parameters were estimated for both laboratory measures of meat quality traits and their spectra-based ***:The prediction performances of the calibration equations,assessed through external validation,were satisfactory for color traits(R^(2) from 0.52 to 0.80),low for pH and purge losses(R^(2) around 0.30),and very poor for cooking losses and tenderness(R^(2) below 0.20).Except for lightness and purge losses,the heritability estimates of most of the predicted traits were lower than those of the measured traits while the genetic correlations between measured and predicted traits were high(average value 0.81).Conclusions:Results showed that NIRS predictions of color traits,pH,and purge losses could be used as indicator traits for the indirect genetic selection of the reference quality *** for cooking losses were less effective,while the NIR predictions of tenderness were affected by a relatively high uncertainty of ***,genetic selection of some meat quality traits,whose direct phenotyping is difficult,can benefit of the application of infrared spectrometers technology.

Incidence of neuroendocrine tumors (NET) has significantly increased in the past three decades. In the small intestine, NET are the most frequent tumors, even more frequent than adenocarcinomas. Due to atypical presentations and late symptoms, NET in the small intestine frequently represent a diagnostic challenge. It is important to take these tumors into consideration in differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal neoplasms. Surgeons, oncologists, endocrinologists, and gastroenterologists should understand the disease characteristics and management alternatives. This document aims to review the key points of NET and main diagnostic tools. We present the case of a 50-year-old male who presented lower gastrointestinal bleeding. Imaging and endoscopic studies showed no conclusive findings. A capsule endoscopy showed multiple ulcered lesions with neoplastic aspect in the distal jejune. Due to the multifocal nature of the lesions, clinicians suspected NET-associated digestive bleeding. The patient underwent exploratory laparoscopy with ileectomy and radical abdominal lymphadenectomy. Histopathologic examination confirmed the suspected diagnosis of NET. This case reflects the complexity of diagnostic approach and differential diagnoses for these tumors.

BACKGROUND Diabetes mellitus type 2(T2DM)is a state of hyperglycemia due to a defect in the secretion and/or action of insulin,and it represents the most common form of diabetes *** Mexico,10.3%of the adult population have been diagnosed with T2DM and it is expanding to the pediatric *** To evaluate and compare the prevalence of T2DM in the pediatric population at the Children’s Hospital,“Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez(HIMFG)”,at two time periods:2013 vs *** A comparison of two cross-sectional studies was done(2013 and 2018).The study population was comprised of children and adolescents 8-17 years old,from the Diabetes Clinic at the aforementioned institution.A comprehensive interrogation regarding family history and perinatal antecedents was *** blood work after 12 h of fasting was obtained to determine serum levels of glucose,glycated hemoglobin,lipid profile,C-peptide,and *** data were analysed using the statistical software package SPSS v.23.0.A P value of<0.05 was considered statistically *** A total of 151 patients were included:47 from 2013,and 104 from *** were age differences noted between the two periods with younger patients presenting T2DM in ***,T2DM predominated in the male sex in 55.36%in 2013 vs 32.7%in *** increased prevalence of T2DM was noted from 2013 to 2018(20.2%vs 33.0%,respectively),which was a statistically significant 12.8%increase(P<0.0001).The illness phenotype was more aggressive in the 2018 group with the presence of a higher proportion of obesity,insulin resistance,and adverse lipid *** The prevalence of T2DM at the HIMFG institution from 2013 to 2018 increased by 12.8%(20.2%vs 33.0%,respectively).The study results demonstrate the need for vigilance in T2DM trends,and to strengthen programs of healthy nutrition and physical activity as well as early detection and risk factors for obesity,data on insulin resistance,and metabo

An important aspect in the restoration of longitudinal connectivity in rivers and streams is the implementation of fish migration systems at the upstream of the functional hydraulic structures(weirs,drop structures or river sills).The diversity of these existing structures as well as the different locations of these weirs within the river,watershed and riparian zone challenge the design engineers to find new holistic solutions for fish migration *** Azuga River study area requires a new synergistic fish migration design *** a mountain area,rapid increase in water level is quite frequent,especially after heavy or prolonged rainfalls and during spring snow ***,it is necessary to design a specific system for fish migration to meet this location’s *** to the characteristics in this location of the Azuga river,the classic fish migration systems would not be *** indigenous/mountain trout is considered as the target species in this *** this is a good swimming species,the use of classical systems could,due to exhaustion,prevent and/or reduce the movement of fish upstream of the two weirs(also known as river sills).This new,comprehensive solution,presented in this paper includes:(i)the restoration and stabilization works of the right bank in the weir study area by using biotechnical measures and(ii)the upstream migration system itself-for supporting the migration of fish on the Azuga River.

Purpose: The aim of this scientific contribution is to show the potential that integral calculus has offered to the analysis of thermodynamic processes. Method: Application of Integral Calculus. In this context, the document covers the theoretical principles of integral calculus, such as Theoretical framework and background, Geometric interpretation of the primitive, Primitive existence theorem. Results: Integral calculus and generalized thermodynamic models, and their applications in various thermodynamic analysis contacts such as the Generalized Enthalpy Model, the Generalized Entropy Model, and the Generalized Model applied to gas mixtures and the General Model to elaborate the properties table. Conclusion: The mathematical analysis developed in this document is very useful in engineering and applied physics environments, a fact that supports its common pedagogical practice in university institutions.

A simple,*** and economic flow injection spectrofluorimetric method was developed for the determination of O-（β-hydroxyethyl）*** procedure was based on the use of an anionic surfactant such as sodium dodecyl sulfate to provide an appreciable O-（β-hydroxyethyl）rutosides fluorescence enhancement,increasing considerably the sensitivity of *** the variables affecting the fluorescence intensity were studied and *** flow rate was 5 mL/min with detection at 450 nm（after excitation at 346 nm）.A linear correlation between drug amount and peak area was established for 0-（β-hydroxyethyl）rulosides in the range of 0.01-200 μg/mL with a detection limit of0.001 μg/mL（s/n = 3）.Validation processes were performed by recovering studies with satisfactory *** new methodology can be employed for the routine analysis of 0-（P-hydroxyethyl）rutosides in bulks as well as in commercial formulations.

We studied the dynamics of mercury（Hg） transfer in Phaseolus vulgaris plants grown in soil with Hg-doped compost at the maximum levels permitted by Colombian law on organic amendments. Quantitative evaluation of transfer was made in different plant organs： roots,stem, leaves, pods and seeds. Matrix effect was determined in doped soil assays, using soil with and without addition of compost. Results showed that the use of organic matter reduced Hg transfer to the plant and the amount transferred was differentially distributed to the organs. We observed an inverse relationship between concentration and distance from the body to the root. It was evident that transfer was mediated by quantitative factors;the greater the presence of mercury in soil, the larger the amount that will be *** also indicate the remedial effect of compost and the presence of a barrier, at the root level, against mercury translocation to the plant aerial parts.

Parametric architecture can be used to improve design quality by integrating and coordinating design components,and any change in one parameter affects the final *** is a crucial parameter in designing energy-efficient *** this research,daylight inside a building was improved by designing a kinetic shading system with independent units parametrically responding to sunlight through 3D rotation(around the centers of the units)and 2D movement(on the surface of the shading system).Various patterns were determined to create the unit’s basic form and allow the designer to have a wide range of *** units were defined with the plugin“Grasshopper.”Their rotation was parametrically controlled on the basis of sun path and weather data by using“Honeybee”and“Ladybug”plugins to provide constant optimized daylighting inside the *** showed that the use of such a shading system in optimal situations can greatly increase the efficiency of indoor daylight.
