Digitizing road maps manually is an expensive and time-consuming task. Several methods that intend to develop fully or semi-automated systems have been proposed. In this work we introduce a method, based on the Radon transform and optimal algorithms, which extracts automatically roads on images of rural areas, images that were acquired by digital cameras and airborne laser scanners. The proposed method detects linear segments iteratively and starting from this it generates the centerlines of the roads. The method is based on an objective function which depends on three parameters related to the correlation between the cross-sections, spectral similarity and directions of the segments. Different tests were performed using aerial photos, Ikonos images and laser scanner data of an area located in the state of Parana （Brazil） and their results are presented and discussed. The quality of the detection of the roads centerlines was computed using several indexes - completeness, correctness and RMS. The values obtained reveal the good performance of the proposed methodology.

＜正＞ This paper presents results of serviceability limit states assessment of recently constructed precast concrete bridge. Assessment is performed using a developed scheme which couples reliability techniques with nonlinear and time dependent methods of structural analysis. The statistical models of mechanical concrete properties and geometrical characteristics of precast girders, developed based on real data, are also summarized. Results achieved during analysis lead to the conclusion that a more rational way of designing precast concrete bridges has to be developed and code calibration, for this particular technology, should be performed

Lentinula edodes?is a macrofungus with great potential for therapeutic applications and serves as a model for investigating functional fungi properties and isolating pure compounds for pharmaceutical use. Mushrooms have a great nutritional value and present medicinal molecules including polysaccharides, terpenoids, sterols and lipids, that participate actively in several human disorders and modulate mechanisms involved in the immune system regulation. This review will focus on general nutritional compounds and pharmacological properties of L. edodes.

Human beings evolved to run over a relatively short evolutionary time scale, ~1 million years, 2-3 million years ago, markedly increasing metabolic rate and VO2max, compared with other primates, while increasing brain size,and lifespan. Ageing leads to precise declines in performance and metabolism(VO2max): are there links with ageing-related diseases? Glucocerebrosidase(GCase;GBA1 subtype) mutations are the most common cause of Parkinson Disease,where there is lysosomal disruption and a reciprocal feedback between glucosylceramide and a-synuclein. We have shown that GBA2 is elevated and, using metabolomics, that ceramide and glucosylceramide levels are critically modified presymptomatically and at early stage in the spinal cord of superoxide dismutase1 mutant mice(SOD1G86R, ALS model),and lipid metabolism is massively changed at end stage disease. Modification of glucosylceramide synthase(GCS), and GCase activites shows that inhibiting GCS is deleterious and inhibiting GCase is beneficial to both neuromuscular junction function in sciatic nerve crush, and also grip strength and survival in the SOD1G86R model. Ambroxol(3 mmol·L-1 in drinking water), a glucocerebrosidase chaperone, accelerated recovery of NMJ function in sciatic nerve crush, and ameliorated grip strength and survival in the SOD1G86R model. Ambroxol is phase 2 ready in ALS and starting phase 3 in Parkinson disease.

The use of Urban Solid Waste (USW) as sources of energy has acquired rising importance in current discussions of alternative energy supplies, in particular in Brazil. This paper brings to these discussions an examination of the concept of solid wastes, including their historic origins and formation, taking their social, economic and cultural characteristics into account, including point view of waste production liturgy. Consequently, a spendthrift society slanted towards the decreasing marginal utility of assets must make efficient use of its USW in order to reduce excessive output. Besides that, this document presents the Brazilian potential of urban solid waste to produce electric power.

Objectives: This research work intends to clarify the role of artificial saliva, in particularly the role of mucin, a salivary protein, on the surface properties and adhesion ability of Candida spp. oral clinical isolates to abiotic surfaces. Methods: Four oral clinical isolates of Candida spp. were used: two Candida albicans strains (AC;AM) and two Candida parapsilosis strains (AD;AM2). The strains were isolated from patients using oral prosthesis. The microorganisms were cultured in the absence or presence of mucin and artificial saliva, and their adhesion to an abiotic surface (coated with mucin and artificial saliva) was evaluated. Results: The presence of mucin per se onto the abiotic surface decreased the adhesion of all strains, although the combination of mucin with artificial saliva had reduced this effect. No direct correlation between adhesion and the surface free energies of adhesion of the microorganisms was found. Significance: Candida spp. were human commensal microorganisms that became pathogenic when the host immune defenses were compromised. Medical devices were colonized by Candida spp. particularly, oral prostheses, which might lead to the degradation of the prostheses and systemic infections. The salivary secretions that constantly cover the oral cavity influenced Candida spp. adhesion process. Therefore, it was important to understand the interactions between Candida spp., salivary proteins and the characteristic of oral prosthesis when developing materials for oral prostheses.

Simultaneous Determination of Ten Endocrine Hormone Disrupters in Water Using SPE/LC-(ESI)MS-MS

The aim of this study was developed and validated an analytical method based on liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry after solid phase extraction to monitorizing ten endocrine hormone disrupters in Lisbon drinking water system. Natural and synthetic hormones (17-β-estradiol, ethinylestradiol, estriol, estrone, progesterone, mestranol and diethylstilbestrol) and some industrial products (4-n-nonylphenol, 4-tert-octylphenol and bisphenol A) were studied. Mass spectrometer detection parameters were optimized, such as the best conditions for the precursor ion formation, namely cone voltage, when applying negative and positive electrospray ionization, and also collision energy for MRM1 and MRM2 transitions. The best conditions of the solid phase extraction (SPE) using Waters Oasis HLB (6 mL, 200 mg) and Isolute C18 (EC) (6 ml, 1000 mg) were also optimized. The method was validated through the application of several statistical tests and the uncertainty estimation of the analytical assay. This method showed a very good linear range for all the studied analytes with determination coefficients (r2) between 0.9962 and 0.9999 and coefficients of variation lower than 4%. There were no significant differences between recoveries obtained with the studied matrices, like groundwater, surface water and water for human consumption. In these matrices, the recovery values varied between 32 and 95%. The limits of method detection were between 0.28 and 22 ng/L. The validated method was applied for the analysis of water samples from the EPAL (Empresa Portuguesa das águas Livres, S.A.) water supply system including tap water, spring water, groundwater, and river water. Some target compounds (bisphenol A, progesterone, 4-tert-octylphenol, and 4-n-nonylphenol) were found in trace amounts in analysed waters.
