Prediction of meat quality traits in the abattoir using portable near-infrared spectrometers:heritability of predicted traits and genetic correlations with laboratory-measured traits

Background:The possibility of assessing meat quality traits over the meat chain is strongly limited,especially in the context of selective breeding which requires a large number of *** main objective of this study was to investigate the suitability of portable infrared spectrometers for phenotyping beef cattle aiming to genetically improving the quality of their *** quality traits(pH,color,water holding capacity,tenderness)were appraised on rib eye muscle samples of 1,327 Piemontese young bulls using traditional(i.e.,reference/gold standard)laboratory analyses;the same traits were also predicted from spectra acquired at the abattoir on the intact muscle surface of the same animals 1 d after *** parameters were estimated for both laboratory measures of meat quality traits and their spectra-based ***:The prediction performances of the calibration equations,assessed through external validation,were satisfactory for color traits(R^(2) from 0.52 to 0.80),low for pH and purge losses(R^(2) around 0.30),and very poor for cooking losses and tenderness(R^(2) below 0.20).Except for lightness and purge losses,the heritability estimates of most of the predicted traits were lower than those of the measured traits while the genetic correlations between measured and predicted traits were high(average value 0.81).Conclusions:Results showed that NIRS predictions of color traits,pH,and purge losses could be used as indicator traits for the indirect genetic selection of the reference quality *** for cooking losses were less effective,while the NIR predictions of tenderness were affected by a relatively high uncertainty of ***,genetic selection of some meat quality traits,whose direct phenotyping is difficult,can benefit of the application of infrared spectrometers technology.

Exploring the asymmetric effect of COVID‑19 pandemic news on the cryptocurrency market:evidence from nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag approach and frequency domain causality

This paper explores the asymmetric effect of COVID-19 pandemic news,as measured by the coronavirus indices(Panic,Hype,Fake News,Sentiment,Infodemic,and Media Coverage),on the cryptocurrency *** daily data from January 2020 to September 2021 and the exponential generalized autoregressive conditional heter-oskedasticity model,the results revealed that both adverse and optimistic news had the same effect on Bitcoin returns,indicating fear of missing out behavior does not ***,when the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model is esti-mated,both positive and negative shocks in pandemic indices promote Bitcoin’s daily changes;thus,Bitcoin is resistant to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic crisis and may serve as a hedge during market *** analysis of frequency domain causality supports a unidirectional causality running from the Coronavirus Fake News Index and Sentiment Index to Bitcoin returns,whereas daily fluctuations in the Bitcoin price Granger affect the Coronavirus Panic Index and the Hype *** findings may have significant policy implications for investors and governments because they highlight the impor-tance of news during turbulent *** empirical results indicate that pandemic news could significantly influence Bitcoin’s price.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the most common cancers in the world and is one of the leading indications for liver transplantation,liver transplantation is the gold standard treatment for end stage liver *** is based up on radiological characteristics and rarely biopsy *** treatment must be individualized to each patient to improve recurrences and *** this article,we focus on the different selection criteria for liver *** study aimed to investigate the distribution laws and research frontiers of international literature,so as to present holistic bibliometric evaluation of the studies on 5-year survival and disease-free recurrence in 5 years,according to hepatocarcinoma criteria for liver *** paper aims to review and analyze 5-year survival and disease-free recurrence based on hepatocarcinoma criteria for liver *** systematically examines and summarizes distribution characteristics and research frontiers through bibliometric analysis.A bibliographic search was implemented in PubMed/Medline,Clinical Key,Science Direct and Index Medicus with MESH terms,from the year 1996–*** selected for transplantation using the Metroticket 2.0(MT2)criteria had the highest overall survival along with patients selected for transplantation using the Milan Criteria had the best 5-year disease-free *** Metroticket 2.0 criteria(MT2)and Milan Criteria(MC)have shown the most favorable post-transplant outcomes for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).However,MC demonstrated the best 5-year disease-free recurrence rate,underscoring the significance of taking into account tumor morphology and biology when determining the eligibility of HCC patients for liver *** distribution characteristics and research frontiers by bibliometrics concerning prognostic role of selection criteria for liver transplantation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma the collaboration

Determination of Soil Aggregate Porosity Using the Modified Water Saturation Method

The need to find a simple method for measuring soil aggregate porosity (φ) is justified by the growing interest of researchers in this important parameter of soil physical status. The aim of this study was to present a simple method (AM) for estimating the total 0 of a single soil aggregate. In this case, soil aggregate 0 was calculated as the quotient between the pore volume, estimated from the weight of the aggregate saturated with ethanol, and the total volume (V T ) of aggregate, calculated from the particle density and dry aggregate weight. The V T estimated with AM was compared with the corresponding volume measured with the photogrammetry (PHM) technique using soil aggregates of 8–16 mm in diameter and collected from three different tillage systems: conventional tillage (CT), reduced tillage (RT), and no tillage (NT). Next, the AM was used to study the effects of the tillage system on soil aggregate φ. Although a strong relationship ( R 2 = 0.99, P < 0.000 1) between aggregate V T measured with PHM and that estimated with AM was obtained, AM tended to underestimate aggregate V T with an average deviation of 2.85%. This difference may be due to ethanol evaporation during the first 10 s before the ethanol-saturated aggregate was weighed. The use of AM to determine the effects of different tillage systems on aggregate φ showed that this method was sensitive to detect significant differences among the tillage treatments. The results showed that AM could be an accurate, simple, and inexpensive alternative to estimate φ of a single soil aggregate.

Although phylogenetically ancient,the olfactory system has received less attention than other sensorial ***,olfactory dysfunction is considered an early prodromal event in neurodegenerative diseases(NDs)(Doty,2012;Attems et al.,2014),which may vary from severe smell loss(e.g.,Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases)to relatively moderate loss(e.g.,progressive supranuclear palsy)(Doty,2017).Recently,a cluster of neuropathological and functional discoveries has evidenced the relevant role of the olfactory bulb(OB)during the neurodegenerative process(Attems et al.,2014;Rey et al.,2018).For instance,the double-transgenic APP/PS1 mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease(AD)develops early proteomic disturbances accompanied by a specific modulation of the focal adhesion kinase(FAK)and mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)dynamics at the level of the OB,demonstrating that olfactory molecular alterations occur prior toβ-amyloid plaque appearance and memory impairments in APP/PS1 transgenic mice(Lachen-Montes et al.,2016).

Superficial Color Patches as a Visual Diagnostic Criterion for Agricultural Management

Soil management matters in semiarid lands are key to have acceptable yields and to preserve diversity. After the major agricultural intensification underwent in the semiarid lands of Monegros, NE Spain, custom tailored tools are needed to reconcile agriculture with habitats conservation. The objectives of this study were to quantify the effect of soil properties of two distinctly colored soils, white patches （WP） and dark patches （DP）, dominant in the arid landscape of the central Ebro Basin, Spain on winter cereal grain yield and to prove that superficial soil color could be used as a visual diagnostic criterion for evaluation of agricultural practices in arid lands. Significant differences between WP and DP soils were found in gypsum, carbonate contents, available water holding capacity and infiltration rate. The grain yield ranged from 51 to 5 713 kg ha-1. Significantly lower yields （P 〈 0.01） and precipitation-use efficiency （P 〈 0.05） were attained in the WP soils for the three seasons studied. This difference increased with the average rainfall due to the significantly lower soil water infiltration （P 〈 0.01） and water holding capacity （P 〈 0.05） found in the gypseous soils. Our results show that mapping the soil surface color at farm scale can be a low=cost tool for optimizing agricultural practices and recovering the natural vegetation. This approach can be advantageous in similar arid or semiarid environments around the world.

During the diversification of angiosperms, seeds have evolved structuralp chemical, molecular and physiolog- ically developing changes that specially affect the nucellus and endosperm. All through seed evolution, programmed celldeath （PCD） has played a fundamental role. However, examples of PCD during seed development are limited. The present review examines PCD in integuments, nucellus, suspensor and endosperm in those representative examples of seeds studied to date.

An important aspect in the restoration of longitudinal connectivity in rivers and streams is the implementation of fish migration systems at the upstream of the functional hydraulic structures(weirs,drop structures or river sills).The diversity of these existing structures as well as the different locations of these weirs within the river,watershed and riparian zone challenge the design engineers to find new holistic solutions for fish migration *** Azuga River study area requires a new synergistic fish migration design *** a mountain area,rapid increase in water level is quite frequent,especially after heavy or prolonged rainfalls and during spring snow ***,it is necessary to design a specific system for fish migration to meet this location’s *** to the characteristics in this location of the Azuga river,the classic fish migration systems would not be *** indigenous/mountain trout is considered as the target species in this *** this is a good swimming species,the use of classical systems could,due to exhaustion,prevent and/or reduce the movement of fish upstream of the two weirs(also known as river sills).This new,comprehensive solution,presented in this paper includes:(i)the restoration and stabilization works of the right bank in the weir study area by using biotechnical measures and(ii)the upstream migration system itself-for supporting the migration of fish on the Azuga River.

Navigating the dynamic landscape of alpha-synuclein morphology: a review of the physiologically relevant tetrameric conformation
