Nitrogen‑Doped Magnetic‑Dielectric‑Carbon Aerogel for High‑Efficiency Electromagnetic Wave Absorption

Carbonbased aerogels derived from biomass chitosan are encountering a flourishing moment in electromagnetic protection on account of lightweight,controllable fabrication and versatility.Nevertheless,developing a facile construction method of component design with carbon-based aerogels for high-efficiency electromagnetic wave absorption(EWA)materials with a broad effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)and strong absorption yet hits some snags.Herein,the nitrogen-doped magnetic-dielectric-carbon aerogel was obtained via ice template method followed by carbonization treatment,homogeneous and abundant nickel(Ni)and manganese oxide(MnO)particles in situ grew on the carbon aerogels.Thanks to the optimization of impedance matching of dielectric/magnetic components to carbon aerogels,the nitrogen-doped magnetic-dielectric-carbon aerogel(Ni/MnO-CA)suggests a praiseworthy EWA performance,with an ultra-wide EAB of 7.36 GHz and a minimum reflection loss(RLmin)of−64.09 dB,while achieving a specific reflection loss of−253.32 dB mm−1.Furthermore,the aerogel reveals excellent radar stealth,infrared stealth,and thermal management capabilities.Hence,the high-performance,easy fabricated and multifunctional nickel/manganese oxide/carbon aerogels have broad application aspects for electromagnetic protection,electronic devices and aerospace.

Decitabine induces IRF7-mediated immune responses in p53-mutated triple-negative breast cancer:a clinical and translational study

p53 is mutated in half of cancer cases.However,no p53-targeting drugs have been approved.Here,we reposition decitabine for triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC),a subtype with frequent p53 mutations and extremely poor prognosis.In a retrospective study on tissue microarrays with 132 TNBC cases,DNMT1 overexpression was associated with p53 mutations(P=0.037)and poor overall survival(OS)(P=0.010).In a prospective DEciTabinE and Carboplatin in TNBC(DETECT)trial(NCT03295552),decitabine with carboplatin produced an objective response rate(ORR)of 42%in 12 patients with stage IV TNBC.Among the 9 trialed patients with available TP53 sequencing results,the 6 patients with p53 mutations had higher ORR(3/6 vs.0/3)and better OS(16.0 vs.4.0 months)than the patients with wild-type p53.In a mechanistic study,isogenic TNBC cell lines harboring DETECT-derived p53 mutations exhibited higher DNMT1 expression and decitabine sensitivity than the cell line with wild-type p53.In the DETECT trial,decitabine induced strong immune responses featuring the striking upregulation of the innate immune player IRF7 in the p53-mutated TNBC cell line(upregulation by 16-fold)and the most responsive patient with TNBC.Our integrative studies reveal the potential of repurposing decitabine for the treatment of p53-mutated TNBC and suggest IRF7 as a potential biomarker for decitabine-based treatments.

VSe_(2)/V_(2)C heterocatalyst with built-in electric field for efficient lithium-sulfur batteries:Remedies polysulfide shuttle and conversion kinetics

Lithium sulfur(Li-S)battery is a kind of burgeoning energy storage system with high energy density.However,the electrolyte-soluble intermediate lithium polysulfides(Li PSs)undergo notorious shuttle effect,which seriously hinders the commercialization of Li-S batteries.Herein,a unique VSe_(2)/V_(2)C heterostructure with local built-in electric field was rationally engineered from V_(2)C parent via a facile thermal selenization process.It exquisitely synergizes the strong affinity of V_(2)C with the effective electrocatalytic activity of VSe_(2).More importantly,the local built-in electric field at the heterointerface can sufficiently promote the electron/ion transport ability and eventually boost the conversion kinetics of sulfur species.The Li-S battery equipped with VSe_(2)/V_(2)C-CNTs-PP separator achieved an outstanding initial specific capacity of 1439.1 m A h g^(-1)with a high capacity retention of 73%after 100 cycles at0.1 C.More impressively,a wonderful capacity of 571.6 mA h g^(-1)was effectively maintained after 600cycles at 2 C with a capacity decay rate of 0.07%.Even under a sulfur loading of 4.8 mg cm^(-2),areal capacity still can be up to 5.6 m A h cm^(-2).In-situ Raman tests explicitly illustrate the effectiveness of VSe_(2)/V_(2)C-CNTs modifier in restricting Li PSs shuttle.Combined with density functional theory calculations,the underlying mechanism of VSe_(2)/V_(2)C heterostructure for remedying Li PSs shuttling and conversion kinetics was deciphered.The strategy of constructing VSe_(2)/V_(2)C heterocatalyst in this work proposes a universal protocol to design metal selenide-based separator modifier for Li-S battery.Besides,it opens an efficient avenue for the separator engineering of Li-S batteries.

Semiconductors have been widely used in many high-tech fields such as photo-and electro-catalysis,ion bat-teries,and solar cells.In addition to the earliest discovered elemental and compound semiconductors,such as monocrystalline silicon and metal oxides,new types of compound semiconductors have been discovered.Among them,metal hydroxyfluorides(MOHF)are an emerging type of semiconductor that are easy to synthesize and inexpensive.However,many of their properties and applications are not well understood.Nevertheless,some MOHF materials,such as ZnOHF and CoOHF,have been sufficiently developed,and their applications have been extensively explored.This review focuses on a new compound semiconductor,MOHF,with ZnOHF and CoOHF as the typical.After a short introduction to their physical and chemical properties,their common applications are illustrated with several examples.Subsequently,other less-researched MOHF and MOHF-like materials,as well as their applications,are discussed.Moreover,the expectations and development directions of MOHFs are briefly summarized.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)continues to pose a significant threat to the world,as it continually evolves and gives rise to multiple variants and sub-variants.Recently,the Omicron EG.5 linage,which was first detected in Indonesia on 17 February 2023,has raised concerns due to its increased prevalence and extended immune escape properties,according to the risk analysis by the World Health Organization(WHO)[1].As of 3 October 2023,EG.5 and its sub-linages have been reported in 83 countries with shared 49,008 genome sequences in GISAID database(https://***/hcov19-variants/).EG.5 has become the dominant strain in the United States according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC),accounting for 29.4%of SARS-CoV-2 infections(https://covid.***.gov/covid-data-tracker/#variant-proportions).

Enhancing Li cycling coulombic efficiency while mitigating “shuttle effect” of Li-S battery through sustained release of LiNO_(3)

In practical lithium-sulfur batteries(LSBs),the shuttle effect and Li cycling coulombic efficiency(CE) are strongly affected by the physicochemical properties of solid electrolyte interphase(SEI).LiNO_(3) is widely used as an additive in electrolytes to build a high-quality SEI,but its self-sacrificial nature limits the ability to mitigate the shuttle effect and stabilize Li anode during long-term cycling.To counteract LiNO_(3) consumption during long-term cycling without using a high initial concentration,inspired by sustainedrelease drugs,we encapsulated LiNO_(3) in lithiated Nafion polymer and added an electrolyte co-solvent(1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethylene 2,2,2-trifluoromethyl ether) with poor LiNO_(3) solubility to construct highquality and durable F-and N-rich SEI.Theoretical calculations,experiments,multiphysics simulations,and in-situ observations confirmed that the F-and N-rich SEI can modulate lithium deposition behavior and allow persistent repair of SEI during prolonged cycling.Hence,the F-and N-rich SEI improves the Li anode cycling CE to 99.63% and alleviates the shuttle effect during long-term cycling.The lithium anode with sustainable F-and N-rich SEI shows a stable Li plating/stripping over 2000 h at 1 mA cm^(-2).As expected,Li‖S full cells with this SEI achieved a long lifespan of 250 cycles,far exceeding cells with a routine SEI.The Li‖S pouch cell based on F-and N-rich SEI also can achieve a high energy density of about300 Wh kg^(-1) at initial cycles.This strategy provides a novel design for high-quality and durable SEls in LSBs and may also be extendable to other alkali metal batteries.

Tailoring the Spatial Distribution and Content of Inorganic Nitrides in Solid-Electrolyte Interphases for the Stable Li Anode in Li-S Batteries

Among the alternatives to lithium-ion batteries,lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are considered as an attractive option because of their high theoretical energy density of 2570 Wh kg^(−1).However,the application of the Li-S battery has been plagued by the rapid failure of the Li anode due to the Li dendrite growth and severe parasitic reactions between Li and lithium polysulfides.The physicochemical properties of the solid-electrolyte interphase have a profound impact on the performance of the Li anode.Herein,a lithium polyacrylic acid/lithium nitrate(LPL)-protective layer is developed to inhibit the dendrite Li growth and parasitic reactions by tailoring the spatial distribution and content of LiN_(x)O_(y) and Li_(3)N at the SEI.The modified SEI is thoroughly investigated for compositions,ion transport properties,and Li plating/stripping kinetics.Consequently,the Li-S cell with a high S loading cathode(5.0 mg cm^(−2)),LPL layer-protected thin Li anode(50μm),and 40μL electrolyte shows a long life span of 120 cycles.This work evokes the avenue for regulating the spatial distribution of inorganic nitride at the SEI to suppress the formation of Li dendrites and parasitic reactions in Li-S batteries and perhaps guiding the design of analogous battery systems.

A novel type of three-dimensional ultralight aerogel sphere,consisting of one-dimensional nanocellulose-derived carbon fibers and two-dimensional graphene layers,was prepared based on a developed drop-freeze-drying followed by carbonization approach.The nanofibrous carbon efficiently prevents the agglomeration of the graphene layers,which,in turn,reduces the shrinkage and maintains the structural stability of the hybrid carbon aerogel spheres.Consequently,the aerogel spheres showing an ultralow-density of 2.8 mg/cm^(3) and a porosity of 99.98%accomplish the tunable dielectric property and electromagnetic wave(EMW)absorption performance.The high-efficiency utilization of biomass-derived fibrous nanocarbon,graphene,the porous structure of the hybrid aerogel spheres leads to the excellent EMW absorption performance.The aerogel spheres display an effective absorption bandwidth of 6.16 GHz and a minimum reflection loss of−70.44 dB even at a filler loading of merely 3 wt.%,significantly outperforming that of other biomass-derived carbon-based EMW absorbing materials.This work offers a feasible,facile,scalable approach for fabricating high-performance and sustainable biomass-based aerogels,suggesting a tremendous application potential in EMW absorption and aerospace.

A Prognostic Nomogram with High Accuracy Based on 2D-SWE in Patients with Acute-on-chronic Liver Failure

Background and Aims:Acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)is associated with very high mortality.Accurate prediction of prognosis is critical in navigating optimal treatment decisions to improve patient survival.This study was aimed to develop a new nomogram integrating two-dimensional shear wave elastography(2D-SWE)values with other independent prognostic factors to improve the precision of predicting ACLF patient outcomes.Methods:A total of 449 consecutive patients with ACLF were recruited and randomly allocated to a training cohort(n=315)or a test cohort(n=134).2D-SWE values,conventional ultrasound features,laboratory tests,and other clinical characteristics were included in univariate and multivariate analysis.Factors with prognostic value were then used to construct a novel prognostic nomogram.Receiver operating curves(ROCs)were generated to evaluate and compare the performance of the novel and published models including the Model for EndStage Liver Disease(MELD),MELD combined with sodium(MELD-Na),and Jin’s model.The model was validated in a prospective cohort(n=102).Results:A ACLF prognostic nomogram was developed with independent prognostic factors,including 2D-SWE,age,total bilirubin(TB),neutrophils(Neu),and the international normalized ratio(INR).The area under the ROC curve(AUC)was 0.849 for the new model in the training cohort and 0.861 in the prospective validation cohort,which were significantly greater than those for MELD(0.758),MELD-Na(0.750),and Jin’s model(0.777,all p<0.05).Calibration curve analysis revealed good agreement between the predicted and observed probabilities.The new nomogram had superior overall net benefit and clinical utility.Conclusions:We established and validated a 2D-SWE-based noninvasive nomogram to predict the prognosis of ACLF patients that was more accurate than other prognostic models.
