As the steel industry expands worldwide,slag dumps with transition metals(especially chromium and vanadium)are becoming more common,posing a serious environmental threat.Understanding the properties of slags containing transition metal oxides,as well as how to use the slags to recover and recycle metal values,is critical.Toward this end,the University of Science and Technology Beijing(USTB)and Royal Institute of Technology(KTH)have been collaborating on slags containing transition metals for decades.The research was carried out from a fundamental viewpoint to get a better understanding of the structure of these slags and their properties,as well as industrial practices.The research focused on the three“R”s,viz.retention,recovery,and recycling.The present paper attempts to highlight some of the important achievements in these joint studies.

VS4 has gained more and more attention for its high theoretical capacity (449 mAh/g with 3e^- transfer) in lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, a layered structure VS4 anchored in graphene aerogels is prepared and first reported as cathode material for LIBs. VS4@GAs composite exhibits an exceptional high initial reversible capacity (511 mAh/g), an excellent high-rate capability (191 mAh/g at the 5 C), and an excellent cyclic stability (239 mAh/g after 15 cycles).

The sandwich structure of cushioning packaging has an important influence on the cushioning performance.Mathematical fractal theory is an important graphic expression.Based on Hilbert fractal theory,a new sandwich structure was designed.The generation mechanism and recurrence formula of theHilbert fractal were expressed by Lin’s language,and the second-orderHilbert sandwich structure was constructed fromthermoplastic polyurethane.The constitutive model of the hyperelastic body was established by using the finite element method.With the unit mass energy absorption as the optimization goal,the fractal sandwich structure was optimized,and the best result was obtained when the order was 2.5 and the unit layer thickness was 0.75 mm.TheHilbert sandwich structure was compared with the rice-shaped sandwich structure commonly used in industry,and the Hilbert fractal structure had better energy absorption.This has practical significance for the development and application of newcushioning packaging structures.

Shear wave splitting measurement of teleseismic data has been used to determine the fast polarization directions and delay times for 38 temporary stations and 15 permanent stations from a NW linear seismic array across the eastern Tarim basin(ETB) and the northern Tibetan Plateau(NTP),and 10 permanent stations on both sides of the array.We present an image of upper mantle anisotropy in the ETB and NTP using the 63 new measurements.The results show that the fast directions and delay times have complex spatial distribution characteristics.The delay times within the interior of the Tarim basin are very small,with an average value of 0.6 s,which is not only smaller than that in the Altyn Tagh fault and Tianshan on the southern and northern margins of the basin,but also smaller than that in the NTP,reflecting that the delay time of stable blocks is smaller than that of active blocks.Along the array,from east to west,the fast directions contrarotate from NNW in the southern Songpan-Garze terrane to NW in the northern Songpan-Garze terrane,to near E-W or ENE in the north of the East Kunlun fault and southern margin of the Qaidam basin,then first abruptly rotate to NW in the Qiman Tagh fault on the northwestern margin of the Qaidam basin,second abruptly rotate to ENE in the Altyn Tagh fault and south of the ETB,and third abruptly rotate to NW in the north of the ETB,then finally rotate to WNW in the Tianshan.The comparative analysis between the fast wave directions measured by shear wave splitting and predicted from the surface deformation field shows that,with the exclusion of the five observations with larger misfits within the interior of the ETB(with an average misfit of 27°),the misfits in the NTP and northern and southern margins of the Tarim basin are relatively small(with an average misfit of 9°).In addition,the fast wave directions of the tectonic units such as the Altyn Tagh fault,East Kunlun fault,and Tianshan are parallel to the strikes of faults and mountains in the region,which indicates that the deep and s

Phosphate residue is a kind of hazardous solid waste and if not properly disposed of, could cause serious environmental contaminations. The abundant iron salt available in phosphate residue can be used to prepare photo-Fenton catalytic reagent for wastewater treatment. In this study, the phosphate residue was effectively purified by a hydrothermal recrystallization method, reaching an iron phosphate purity of 94.2%. The particles of iron phosphate were further processed with ball milling with their average size reduced from 19.4 to 1.6 μm. By hydrothermal crystallization of iron phosphate and thermal decomposition of oxalate precursor, porous iron hydroxy phosphate was prepared. The modified porous iron hydroxy phosphate(m-PIHP) of higher surface area with iron oxalate on its surface can degrade 98.87% of Rhodamine B in 15 min. Cyclic experiment showed that the catalyst still had a good catalytic activity after six cycles( > 40%). The X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results showed that the iron oxalate complex on the catalyst surface decomposed to produce ferrous ions and accelerated the rate of · OH production. The current work demonstrated that the m-PIHP synthesized from phosphate residue and modified with iron oxalate can be used as an effective dye wastewater treatment agent.

Chinese Traditional Maps and Local Chronicles serve as significant sources for investigating the urban history of ancient Chinese cities.These documents prioritize the abstract representation of topological relationships over precise numerical values and geometric shapes.This is consistent with the traditional Chinese city image and spatial schema emphasizing“harmony between man and nature”.Most Chinese Traditional Maps reflect a centripetal spatial schema,wherein the core area is located at the center,and other locations are positioned hierarchically about the center.Based on this data,this research aims to categorize and examine the development and evolution of the centripetal spatial schema in ancient Chinese cities by constructing a pedigree of types.The authors identify three types and summarize their causes,calculate the topological features,and reveal their correlations with the type of pedigree.This study reveals that cities with different centripetal forms exhibit regular differences in the accessibility,centrality,and functional attributes of central nodes,as well as the proportion of nodes with different attributes in the city.Overall,the conclusion aims to deepen people’s understanding of traditional Chinese spatial concepts at the macro-urban level,particularly in the context of China’s current urban renewal wave.Additionally,it provides practical references for inheriting and applying Chinese traditional construction wisdom.

High-resolution deep-learning-based remote-sensing imagery analysis has been widely used in land-use and crop-classification mapping. However, the influence of composite feature bands, including complex feature indices arising from different sensors on the backbone, patch size, and predictions in transferable deep models require further testing. The experiments were conducted in six sites in Henan province from2019 to 2021. This study sought to enable the transfer of classification models across regions and years for Sentinel-2 A(10-m resolution) and Gaofen PMS(2-m resolution) imagery. With feature selection and up-sampling of small samples, the performance of UNet++ architecture on five backbones and four patch sizes was examined. Joint loss, mean Intersection over Union(m Io U), and epoch time were analyzed, and the optimal backbone and patch size for both sensors were Timm-Reg Net Y-320 and 256 × 256, respectively. The overall accuracy and Fscores of the Sentinel-2 A predictions ranged from 96.86% to 97.72%and 71.29% to 80.75%, respectively, compared to 75.34%–97.72% and 54.89%–73.25% for the Gaofen predictions. The accuracies of each site indicated that patch size exerted a greater influence on model performance than the backbone. The feature-selection-based predictions with UNet++ architecture and upsampling of minor classes demonstrated the capabilities of deep-learning generalization for classifying complex ground objects, offering improved performance compared to the UNet, Deeplab V3+, Random Forest, and Object-Oriented Classification models. In addition to the overall accuracy, confusion matrices,precision, recall, and F1 scores should be evaluated for minor land-cover types. This study contributes to large-scale, dynamic, and near-real-time land-use and crop mapping by integrating deep learning and multi-source remote-sensing imagery.

A strongly declining aerosol radiative effect has been observed in China since 2013 after implementing the clean air action,yet its impact on wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)production remains unclear.We use satellite measures and a biophysical crop model to assess the impact of aerosol-induced radiative perturbations on winter wheat production in the agricultural belt of Henan province from 2013 to 2018.After calibrating parameters with the extended Fourier Amplitude Sensitivity Test(EFAST)and the generalized likelihood uncertainty estimation(GLUE)method,the DSSAT CERES-Wheat model was able to simulate crop biomass and yield more accurately.We found that the aerosol negatively impacted wheat biomass by 21.87%and yield by 22.48%from 2006 to 2018,and the biomass effects from planting to anthesis were more significant compared to anthesis to maturity.Due to the strict clean air action,under all-sky conditions,the surface solar shortwave radiation(SSR)in 2018 increased by about 7.08%over 2006-2013 during the wheat growing seasons.As a result of the improvement of crop photosynthesis,winter wheat biomass and yield increased by an average of 5.46%and 2.9%,respectively.Our findings show that crop carbon uptake and yield will benefit from the clean air action in China,helping to ensure national food and health security.

Numerical prediction of particle slip velocity in turbulence by CFD-DEM simulation

Turbulent environment improves the flotation recovery of fine particles by promoting the particle–bubble collision rate,which directly depends on the particle slip velocity.However,the existing slip velocity models are not applicable to fine particles in turbulence.The mechanism of turbulence characteristics and particle properties on the slip velocity of fine particles in turbulence was unclear.In this study,a coupled ANSYS FLUENT and EDEM based on computational fluid dynamics(CFD)and discrete element method(DEM)were used to simulate the slip velocity of fine particles in the approximately homogenous isotropic turbulence,which was excited by the grid.The reliability of the used CFD-DEM simulation method was validated against the slip velocity measured by the particle image velocimetry(PIV)experiments.In particular,the effects of the particle shapes,particle densities,and turbulence intensities on the slip velocity have been investigated with this numerical method.Numerical results show that particle shapes have no significant effect on fine particles between 37 and 225μm.The slip velocity of the spherical particles increases with the turbulence intensity and particle density.Based on the simulated data,a model which has a correlation coefficient of 0.95 is built by using nonlinear fitting.
