To the editor:Pityriasis versicolor(PV)is a common superficial fungal infection.It is typically characterized by the presence of hyperpigmented or hypopigmented finely scaled macules distributed on the trunk,neck,and upper extremities.In recent years,the infections occurring in more unusual regions of the body,such as the face,axilla,genitalia,areolae,and palms and soles,have been reported.^(1)We report a case of a rare distribution of this common disease.

Ecosystem service(ES) trade-offs have been broadly recognized and studied over the past decade. However, how to coordinate the relationships among ES trade-offs to achieve win–win outcomes remains a considerable challenge for decision makers. Here, we summarize the current approaches applied to minimize ES trade-offs for win–wins and analyze the trade-offs among different ESs and their drivers. Based on a systematic review of the literature from 2005 to 2018, we identified 170 potentially relevant articles, 47 of which were selected for the review,recording 70 actual or potential trade-offs. Analysis of these case studies showed that trade-off pairs between provisioning services and regulating services/biodiversity accounted for 80% of total pairs. Furthermore, more than half of the ES trade-offs were driven by land use/land cover changes. Harvest and resource demand, natural resource management, and policy instruments were also among the main drivers. Four approaches to coordinate ES trade-offs were identified, including ecosystem, landscape-scale, multi-objective optimization, and policy intervention(and other) approaches. Based on the above, we recommend a rigorous understanding of the roles of different stakeholders, spatial scales of management, trade-off dynamics, and integrated implementation of diverse approaches to coordinate ES trade-offs in order to better achieve win–win outcomes.

In this study,the characteristics of azimuthally asymmetric equivalent potential temperature(θ_(e))distributions in the outer core of tropical cyclones(TCs)encountering weak and strong vertical wind shear are examined using a Lagrangian trajectory method.Evaporatively forced downdrafts in the outer rainbands can transport low-entropy air downward,resulting in the lowestθ_(e)in the downshear-left boundary layer.Quantitative estimations ofθ_(e)recovery indicate that air parcels,especially those originating from the downshear-left outer core,can gradually revive from a low entropy state through surface enthalpy fluxes as the parcels move cyclonically.As a result,the maximumθ_(e)is observed in the downshear-right quadrant of a highly sheared TC.The trajectory analyses also indicate that parcels that move upward in the outer rainbands and those that travel through the inner core due to shear make a dominant contribution to the midlevel enhancement ofθ_(e)in the downshear-left outer core.In particular,the former plays a leading role in suchθ_(e)enhancements,while the latter plays a secondary role.As a result,moist potential stability occurs in the middle-to-lower troposphere in the downshear-left outer core.

The asymmetric distribution of convective available potential energy(CAPE)in the outer core of sheared tropical cyclones(TCs)is examined using the National Centers for Environmental Prediction Final operational global analysis data.Larger(smaller)CAPE tends to appear in the downshear(upshear)semicircle.This downshear-upshear contrast in CAPE magnitude becomes much more statistically significant in moderate-to-strong shear.The azimuthally asymmetric CAPE is closely associated with the near-surface equivalent potential temperature(e).Larger surface winds occur in the upshear semicircle in strongly sheared TCs,contributing to larger surface latent heat fluxes in those quadrants.More lowlevel air well fueled by the larger surface latent heat fluxes in the upshear quadrants is cyclonically advected into the downstream quadrants.As a result,larger near-surfacee and CAPE are found in the outer core in the downshear quadrants.

Facile synthesis of Ag/La2O2CO3 hierarchical micro/nanostructures for antibacterial activity and phosphate removal

In this study,hierarchical Ag/La2 O2 CO3 micro/nanostructures(MNSs)were synthesized by in situ loading Ag nanoparticles(NPs)on the surface of the La2 O2 CO3 MNSs.The prepared La2 O2 CO3 MNSs present flower-like shape and can be tuned by the molar ratio of La(NO3)3 and CO(NH2)2.In the molar ratio of 1:2 to 1:55,the La2 O2 CO3 MNSs mainly consist of polyhedral rods,irregular rods and irregular spindles and their size is about 10,8 and 7μm,respectively.After loading Ag NPs,the spindle-like Ag/La2 O2 CO3 MNSs were used for phosphate removal and antibacterial activity.At the initial phosphate concentration of20 mg/L,the removal rate is 59.6%.The Ag/La2 O2 CO3 MNSs have significant antibacterial activity and their MIC values for S.aureus and E.coli are 31.3 and 15.6μg/mL,respectively.The results indicate that Ag/La2 O2 CO3 MNSs may have good application prospects in open water to inhibit bacterial growth.

The concept of the digital twin,also known colloquially as the DT,is a fundamental principle within Industry 4.0 framework.In recent years,the concept of digital siblings has generated considerable academic and practical interest.However,academia and industry have used a variety of interpretations,and the scientific literature lacks a unified and consistent definition of this term.The purpose of this study is to systematically examine the definitional landscape of the digital twin concept as outlined in scholarly literature,beginning with its origins in the aerospace domain and extending to its contemporary interpretations in the manufacturing industry.Notably,this investigationwill focus on the research conducted on Industry 4.0 and smartmanufacturing,elucidating the diverse applications of digital twins in fields including aerospace,intelligentmanufacturing,intelligent transportation,and intelligent cities,among others.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the association between school and community physical activity(PA) characteristics and levels of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) among Chinese school children.Methods: Data were obtained from the 2016 Physical Activity and Fitness in China—The Youth Study project. Participants were 80,928 school children(Grades 4–12; 39,747 boys, 41,181 girls; mean age = 13 years) and 935 physical education(PE) teachers who completed a study survey.Independent variables included both school-related factors(school-level PA support, availability of and access to PA facilities, and the duration of school PE classes) and community-related factors(the frequency of sports events, sports training opportunities, availability of sports clubs and organizations, and access to PA facilities). The dependent variable was the children's self-reported participation in MVPA. The data were analyzed,in 2017, via multilevel modeling.Results: PA support from school administrators was the only school-level factor significantly related to children's participation in MVPA.Children's perceptions of the frequency of community-sponsored sports events, availability of sports clubs and organizations, and convenient access to PA facilities were associated with a high level of MVPA participation. In regard to residency in urban and rural areas, children attending urban schools who perceived high availability of PA facilities were associated with a low level of participation in MVPA.Conclusion: School support for PA and community PA resources are associated with MVPA among Chinese school children. School PA facilities appear underutilized among urban schools as evidenced by low levels of MVPA among school children.

In recent years,machine learning-based cyber intrusion detection methods have gained increasing popularity.The number and complexity of new attacks continue to rise;therefore,effective and intelligent solutions are necessary.Unsupervised machine learning techniques are particularly appealing to intrusion detection systems since they can detect known and unknown types of attacks as well as zero-day attacks.In the current paper,we present an unsupervised anomaly detection method,which combines Sub-Space Clustering(SSC)and One Class Support Vector Machine(OCSVM)to detect attacks without any prior knowledge.The proposed approach is evaluated using the well-known NSL-KDD dataset.The experimental results demonstrate that our method performs better than some of the existing techniques.

This paper studies exact synchronization and asymptotic synchronization problems for a controlled linear system of ordinary differential equations. In this paper, we build up necessary and sufficient conditions for exact synchronization and asymptotic synchronization problems. When a system is not controllable but exactly synchronizable, it can be asymptotically synchronized in any given rate and the state of exact synchronization is given. However, when a system is not controllable and can be asymptotically synchronized in any given rate,it may not be exactly synchronizable.
