Investigating the elliptic anisotropy of identified particles in p-Pb collisions with a multi-phase transport model

The elliptic azimuthal anisotropy coefficient(v_(2))of the identified particles at midrapidity(|η|rential v_(2)based on the advanced flow extraction method of light flavor hadrons(pions,kaons,protons,andΛ)in small collision systems were extended to a wider transverse momentum(p_(T))range of up to 8 GeV/c for the first time.The string-melting version of the AMPT model provides a good description of the measured p_(T)-differential v_(2)of the mesons but exhibits a slight deviation from the baryon v_(2).In addition,we observed the features of mass ordering at low p_(T)and the approximate number-of-constituentquark(NCQ)scaling at intermediate p_(T).Moreover,we demonstrate that hadronic rescattering does not have a significant impact on v_(2)in p-Pb collisions for different centrality selections,whereas partonic scattering dominates in generating the elliptic anisotropy of the final particles.This study provides further insight into the origin of collective-like behavior in small collision systems and has referential value for future measurements of azimuthal anisotropy.

Activation of the NOD-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)inflammasome signaling pathway is an important mechanism underlying myocardial pyroptosis and plays an important role in inflammatory damage to myocardial tissue in patients with cardiovascular diseases(CVDs),such as diabetic cardiomyopathy,ischemia/reperfusion injury,myocardial infarction,heart failure and hypertension.Noncoding RNAs(nc RNAs)are important regulatory factors.Many Chinese medicine(CM)compounds,including their effective components,can regulate pyroptosis and exert myocardium-protecting effects.The mechanisms underlying this protection include inhibition of inflammasome protein expression,Toll-like receptor 4–NF-κB signal pathway activation,oxidative stress,endoplasmic reticulum stress(ERS),and mixed lineage kinase 3 expression and the regulation of silent information regulator 1.The NLRP3 protein is an important regulatory target for CVD prevention and treatment with CM.Exploring the effects of the interventions mediated by CM and the related mechanisms provides new ideas and perspectives for CVD prevention and treatment.

Preparation of Chemically Recyclable Poly(ether-alt-ester) by the Ring Opening Polymerization of Cyclic Monomers Synthesized by Coupling Glycolide and Epoxides

Polyester and polyether are two key oxygenated polymers, and completely alternative sequence of poly(ester-alt-ether) could efficiently combine the advantages(including flexibility, degradability, etc.) of both segments. Currently, despite their copolymers could be synthesized from one-pot mixture of cyclic esters and epoxides, perfectly alternative microstructure is very challenging to realize and typically restricted to certain monomer pairs. Moving forward, synthesizing poly(ester-alt-ether) from commercially available and largescale monomers would be a significant advance. For example, successfully commercialized poly(glycolic acid)(PGA), which is not easily soluble in polymers due to its high crystallinity and is brittle and difficult to control the degradation cycle, would encounter a new paradigm if engineered into poly(ester-altether). In this work, starting from the design of monomer with hybrid structures, we successfully synthesized a series of 1,4-dioxan-2-one containing different substituents based on glycolide(GA) and epoxides using commercially available Salen-Cr(III) and PPNCl catalytic systems.The new monomers underwent ring-opening polymerization(ROP) to form a series of poly(ester-alt-ether) with perfectly alternating glycolic acid and propylene glycol repeat units under catalytic system of thiourea/base. The poly(ester-alt-ether) have significantly lower glass-transition temperature than PGA. Additionally, the poly(ester-alt-ether) can be chemically recovered to monomer using Sn(Oct)2 or 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]undecane-7-ene(DBU) as a catalyst in solution, thus establishing a closed-loop life cycle. From monomers derived from GA and epoxides, this work furnishes a novel strategy for the synthesis of poly(ester-alt-ether) with chemical recyclability.

Bioinspired Tactile Sensation Based on Synergistic Microcrack-Bristle Structure Design toward High Mechanical Sensitivity and Direction-Resolving Capability

Natural tactile sensation is complex,which involves not only contact force intensity detection but also the perception of the force direction,the surface texture,and other mechanical parameters.Nevertheless,the vast majority of the developed tactile sensors can only detect the normal force,but usually cannot resolve shear force or even distinguish the directions of the force.Here,we present a new paradigm of bioinspired tactile sensors for resolving both the intensity and the directions of mechanical stimulations via synergistic microcrack-bristle structure design and cross-shaped configuration engineering.The microcrack sensing structure gives high mechanical sensitivity to the tactile sensors,and the synergistic bristle structure further amplifies the sensitivity of the sensors.The cross-shaped configuration engineering of the synergistic microcrack-bristle structure further endows the tactile sensors with good capability to detect and distinguish the directions of the applied mechanical forces.The as-fabricated tactile sensors exhibit a high sensitivity(25.76 N^(−1)),low detection limit(5.4 mN),desirable stability(over 2,500 cycles),and good capability to resolve both mechanical intensity and directional features.As promising application scenarios,surface texture recognition and biomimetic path explorations are successfully demonstrated with these tactile sensors.This newly proposed tactile sensation strategy and technology have great potential applications in ingenious tactile sensation and construction of various robotic and bionic prostheses with high operational dexterity.

Perfluorinated iodine alkanes promote the differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells by regulating estrogen receptor signaling

Investigating the development toxicity of perfuorinated iodine alkanes(PFIs)is critical,given their estrogenic effects through binding with estrogen receptors(ERs).In the present study,two PFIs,including dodecafuoro-1,6-diiodohexane(PFHx DI)and tridecafuorohexyl iodide(PFHx I),with binding preference to ERαand ERβ,respectively,were selected to evaluate their effects on proliferation and differentiation of the mouse embryonic stem cells(m ESCs).The results revealed that,similar to E_(2),50μmol/L PFHx DI accelerated the cell proliferation of the m ESCs.The PFI stimulation at the exposure concentrations of 2–50μmol/L promoted the differentiation of the m ESCs as characterized by the upregulation of differentiation-related biomarkers(i.e.,Otx2 and Dnmt3β)and downregulation of pluripotency genes(i.e.,Oct4,Nanog,Sox2,Prdm14 and Rex1).Comparatively,PFHx DI exhibited higher induction effect on the differentiation of the m ESCs than did PFHx I.The tests on ER signaling indicated that both PFI compounds induced exposure concentration-dependent expressions of ER signaling-related biomarkers(i.e.,ERα,ERβand Caveolin-1)in the m ESCs,and the downstream ER responsive genes(i.e.,c-fos,c-myc and c-jun)well responded to PFHx I stimulation.The role of ER in PFI-induced effects on the m ESCs was further validated by the antagonistic experiments using an ER inhibitor(ICI).The findings demonstrated that PFIs triggered ER signaling,and perturbed the differentiation program of the m ESCs,causing the potential health risk during early stage of development.

Worldwide,as the population age,osteoporosis is becoming increasingly common,and osteoporotic fractures have a significant economic burden.Postmenopausal women are the most susceptible to developing osteoporosis and the most critical time to prevent it is during the perimenopausal and early menopausal years.In this regard,we hypothesize rational combination of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)in the form of herbal extract could prevent osteoporosis in women.Estrogen deficiency during menopause causes low-level inflammation that stimulates the formation of osteoclasts,the boneresorbing cells,and simultaneously inhibits the viability and function of osteoblasts,the bone-forming cells.The most potent inflammatory cytokine in skeletal homeostasis is the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand(RANKL)that stimulates osteoclast function.Conversely,the canonical Wnt pathway is essential for osteoblastogenesis and bone formation,and estrogen deficiency leads to diminished functioning of this pathway.TCM and acupuncture could target the RANKL and the Wnt pathway in favorable ways to prevent the accelerated bone loss experienced during the early menopausal stage and promote the gain in bone mass in postmenopausal women.In this review,we propose a rational combination of specific TCM and acupuncture targeting those signaling molecules/pathways by the drugs that are in clinical use for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.Our rational approach revealed that Danshen(Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae)could exert a synergistic effect with acupuncture.We then propose a translational path for developing the putative combination in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis to curtail the risk of osteoporotic fractures.

Influence of Mixture Gas Conditions on the Laminar Combustion Characteristics of Natural Gas

Natural gas is a promising alternative fuel for the internal combustion engine,and natural gas engine has become an efficient and feasible measure to deal with the energy shortage and climate change.Since the laminar flame characteristics are the foundation of the turbulent flame,the laminar flame characteristics of natural gas have a significant impact on the combustion status and efficiency of the engine.A visual constant volume bomb was used to study the influence of the gas components,different excess air coefficient(λ),and initial conditions on the laminar combustion characteristics of natural gas.The experimental results showed that when the initial pressure and temperature were 0.1 MPa and 300 K respectively,compared to propane,ethane had a remarkable influence on the equivalent-combustion laminar-combustion-speed,with an average increase of approximately 5.1%for every 2.5%increase in the ethane proportion.The laminar combustion velocity of the natural gas under different excess air coefficients had a maximum value at aboutλ=1.0,and the Markstein length of the flame decreased with the increase of theλ.The increase in the initial pressure of the mixture resulted in a decrease in the equivalent-combustion laminar-combustion-speed of the flame,a significant decrease in the Markstein length.The increase of the initial temperature of the mixture led to a rapid increase of the equivalent-combustion laminar-combustion-speed,but the effect on the flame Markstein length was not dominant.

A fault accommodation zone is a type of structure that is defined as regulating displacement and strain between faults structure.Increasing numbers of fault accommodation zones are being identified in graben basins,indicating the potential exploration target and petroleum accumulation areas.This study aims to analyze the formation mechanism and development of fault accommodation zones under combined stress by a numerical simulation method considering geomechanical modeling.Using three-dimensional(3-D)seismic interpretation and fractal dimension method,exampled with the Dongxin fault zone,the fault activity and fault combination pattern were conducted to quantitatively characterize the activity difference in fault accommodation zones.Combined with mechanical experiment test,a geomehcanical model was established for fault accommodation zones in a graben basin.Integrating the paleostress numerical simulations and structural physical simulation experiment,the developmental characteristics and genetic mechanism of fault accommodation zones were summarized.Influenced by multi movements and combined stresses,three significant tectonic evolution stages of the Dongxing Fault Zone(DXFZ)were distinguished:During the E_(s)^(3)sedimentary period,the large difference in the stress,strain,and rupture distribution in various faults were significant,and this stage was the key generation period for the prototype of the DXFZ,including the FAZ between large-scale faults.During the E_(s)^(2)sedimentary period,the EW-trending symmetric with opposite dipping normal faults and the NE-SW trending faults with large scale were furtherly developed.The junction area of two secondary normal faults were prone to be ruptured,performing significant period for inheriting and developing characteristics of fault accommodation zones.During the Es1 sedimentary period,the high-order faults in the DXFZ exhibited the obvious fault depressions and strike-slip activity,and the fault accommodation zones were furtherly inherited and developed.This stage was

High-precision X-ray polarimeter based on channel-cut crystals

We report on using synthetic silicon for a high-precision X-ray polarimeter comprising a polarizer and an analyzer,each based on a monolithic channel-cut crystal used at multiple Brewster reflections with a Bragg angle very close to 45°.Experiments were performed at the BL09B bending magnet beamline of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility using a Si(800)crystal at an X-ray energy of 12.914 keV.A polarization purity of 8.4×10^(-9)was measured.This result is encouraging,as the measured polarization purity is the best-reported value for the bending magnet source.Notably,this is the firstly systematic study on the hard X-ray polarimeter in China,which is crucial for exploring new physics,such as verifying vacuum birefringence.

In-situ interfacial passivation and self-adaptability synergistically stabilizing all-solid-state lithium metal batteries

The function of solid electrolytes and the composition of solid electrolyte interphase(SEI)are highly significant for inhibiting the growth of Li dendrites.Herein,we report an in-situ interfacial passivation combined with self-adaptability strategy to reinforce Li_(0.33)La_(0.557)TiO_(3)(LLTO)-based solid-state batteries.Specifically,a functional SEI enriched with LiF/Li_(3)PO_(4) is formed by in-situ electrochemical conversion,which is greatly beneficial to improving interface compatibility and enhancing ion transport.While the polarized dielectric BaTiO_(3)-polyamic acid(BTO-PAA,BP)film greatly improves the Li-ion transport kinetics and homogenizes the Li deposition.As expected,the resulting electrolyte offers considerable ionic conductivity at room temperature(4.3 x 10~(-4)S cm^(-1))and appreciable electrochemical decomposition voltage(5.23 V)after electrochemical passivation.For Li-LiFePO_(4) batteries,it shows a high specific capacity of 153 mA h g^(-1)at 0.2C after 100 cycles and a long-term durability of 115 mA h g^(-1)at 1.0 C after 800 cycles.Additionally,a stable Li plating/stripping can be achieved for more than 900 h at 0.5 mA cm^(-2).The stabilization mechanisms are elucidated by ex-situ XRD,ex-situ XPS,and ex-situ FTIR techniques,and the corresponding results reveal that the interfacial passivation combined with polarization effect is an effective strategy for improving the electrochemical performance.The present study provides a deeper insight into the dynamic adjustment of electrode-electrolyte interfacial for solid-state lithium batteries.
