Identification and characterization of the causative triatomine bugs of anaphylactic shock in Zhanjiang,China

Mode-locked fiber laser with MoSe_2 saturable absorber based on evanescent field

An all-fiber mode-locked fiber laser was achieved with a saturable absorber based on a tapered fiber deposited with layered molybdenum selenide(MoSe_2). The laser was operated at a central wavelength of 1558.35 nm with an output spectral width of 2.9 nm, and a pulse repetition rate of 16.33 MHz. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on mode-locked fiber lasers using MoSe_2 saturable absorbers based on tapered fibers.

Generation of wide-bandwidth pulse with graphene saturable absorber based on tapered fiber

Wide-bandwidth pulses were generated with a dispersion-managed erbium-doped passively mode-locked fiber laser based on a graphene saturable absorber. The graphene saturable absorber was composed of a tapered fiber deposited with graphene fabricated by liquid-phase exfoliation. The output pulse had a 3-dB bandwidth of 13.6 nm, which is the widest spectrum ever achieved with graphene-tapered-fiber saturable absorbers.

Microarray-Based Detection and Differentiation of Virulent and Attenuated Pseudorabies Virus

DNA microchip used in this study was formed from miniature arrays of pseudorabies virus （PrV） gene-specific probes immobilized on a glass surface. Hybridization using DNA microchip （microarrays） was used for differentiation between virulent and attenuated PrV. The presence of four gene segments （gB, gD, gE~, and gE ） encoding conservative glycoprotein B （gB）, D （gD）, and E （gE） of PrV was monitored using multiplex PCR. The amplicons were labeled with Cy5 or Cy3 dyes followed by hybridization to the gene-specific capture probes on the microchip. The presence of gD and gB, gE~ gene fragments was shown in virulent （gE~ genotype） and attenuated PrV （gE genotype）, whereas gE- gene （deleted domain in gE gene） was demonstrated only in virulent, not in attenuated, virus. No cross-hybridization was observed when fluorescence labeled-PCR products of PrV were hybridized using capture probes of related viruses, such as porcine respiratory and reproductive syndrome virus （PRRSV）, porcine parvovirus （PPV）, Japanese encephalitis virus （JEV）, and porcine circovirus type 2 （PCV-2）. The assay was 10 times sensitive than gD gene-specific PCR. Overall, the results of this study suggested that the microarray might be very useful for detection and differentiation of virulent PrV from attenuated one.

This study extends the classical Damour-Ruffini method and discusses Hawking radiation in a (n + 4)-dimensional rotating black hole. Under the condition that the total energy and angular momentum of spacetime are conservative, but angular momentum a = J/M of unit mass of the black hole is variable, taking into consideration the reaction of the radiation of the particle to the spacetime, a new Tortoise coordinate transformation and discuss the black hole radiation spectrum is discussed. The radiation spectrum that satisfies the unitary principle in the general case is derived.

RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF MAGNETIC RESONANCE MYOCARDIAL DELAYED ENHANCEMENT

Objective To explore the imaging and related clinical characteristics of magnetic resonance （MR） delayed enhancement in patients with ischemic or nonischemic heart disease. Methods Thirty-two cases who underwent MR myocardial cine and delayed enhancement imaging from January 2004 to October 2006 were retrospectively analyzed. The cine sequence imaging included the four-chamber view and the left ventricular short axis view. The delayed enhancement imaging was taken 10 minutes after the infusion of gadolinium from the antecubital vein with a segmented inversion-recovery-prepared Tl-weighted fast gradient echo sequence. Patients underwent coronary computed tomography angiography （CTA） two weeks before or after the MR imaging examination. Combined with clinical history, the clinical and MR imaging characteristics of the patients who had delayed enhancement were analyzed. Results MR delayed enhancement could be found in 16 cases. Among them, 12 cases had ischemic heart disease. Their coronary CTA showed one to three vessel diseases. The delayed enhancement was transmural or subendocardium, and the area of delayed enhancement corresponded well with one or more coronary arteries which had severe stenosis or occlusion. Four cases had nonischemic heart diseases One case was dilated cardiomyopathy, with diffuse small midwall spots in delayed enhancemen and only 30% stenosis of the anterior descending coronary artery in coronary CTA. One case was hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, with delayed enhancement of strip- and patch-shaped at midwall of the hypertrophic myocardiurn. One case was restrictive cardiomyopathy, and the delayed enhancement was located in the area of subendocardium of both the right and left ventricles. Coronary CTA of these two cases were normal The other case was a mass of the lateral wall of the left ventricle, and the delayed enhancement with a clumpy shape was located in the lateral wall of the left ventricle. Objective To explore the scan technique and image quality of coronary angiography with dual source computed tomography(CT) without oral metoprolol *** Plain and enhanced dual source CT coronary angiography without oral metoprolol preparation was prospectively performed in 600 *** scoring with plain scan images as well as multi-planar reconstruction(MPR),maximum intensity projection(MIP),and volume rendering technique(VRT) reconstruction with enhanced scan images were performed in all *** scan technique and post-reconstruction experience was *** image quality was classified as 1 to 4 points,and coronary segments classified according to the American Heart Association standards were *** The average calcium score of the 600 cases was 213.6±298.7(0-3 216.5).The average heart rate of the enhanced scan was 82.1±16.2(47-139) *** post-reconstruction methods with which coronary segments could be shown as best as possible consisted of single phase reconstruction method,two or more phases supplemented method,and electrocardiogram editing *** 8 457 coronary segments were evaluated,among which 97.2% were evaluated as point 1,1.7% point 2,0.5% point 3,and 0.6% point *** coronary segments in 261 cases were completely normal,while 360 segments were diagnosed with <50% stenosis and 625 segments with ≥50% *** Excellent coronary artery image can be obtained with dual source CT in patients with any heart rate without oral metoprolol *** rate is not a major source of the artifact,coronary segments can be well shown with single or multiple-phase reconstruction method.

Amelioration of β^(654)-thalassemia in mouse model with the knockdown of aberrantly spliced β-globin mRNA

Large amounts of aberrantly spliced mRNA from the β^654 allele was present in erythroid cells, which might impair the erythropoiesis. A therapeutic strategy for β-thalassemia was explored by knocking down the aberrantly spliced mRNA of β-globin. Lentiviral vector with siRNA fragment targets on the specific portion of β^654-globin aberrantly spliced pre-mRNA was constructed. In HeLa β^654 cells, the siRNA vector could reduce approximately 60% of aberrantly spliced mRNA, which was assessed by RT-PCR and qRT-PCR. Furthermore, a disease model of β^654 thalassemia mice with lentiviral-mediated siRNA was produced by subzonal injection （named Hβi-Hbb^th-4/Hbb^＋ transgenic mice）. Our results showed that the hemotological parameters were improved in Hβi-Hbb^th-4/Hbb^＋ transgenic mice. This study provides a potential way for β^654-thalassemia therapy by knocking down the aberrantly spliced β-globin mRNA, whilst supporting that the aberrantly spliced β-globin mRNA may aggravate the disease.

Transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF-β1)has been extensively studied for its pleiotropic effects on central nervous system *** neuroprotective or neurotoxic effects of TGF-β1 in specific brain areas may depend on the pathological process and cell types ***-gated sodium channels(VGSCs)are essential ion channels for the generation of action potentials in neurons,and are involved in various neuroexcitation-related ***,the effects of TGF-β1 on the functional properties of VGSCs and firing properties in cortical neurons remain *** this study,we investigated the effects of TGF-β1 on VGSC function and firing properties in primary cortical neurons from *** found that TGF-β1 increased VGSC current density in a dose-and time-dependent manner,which was attributable to the upregulation of Nav1.3 *** VGSC current density and Nav1.3 expression were significantly abolished by preincubation with inhibitors of mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase(PD98059),p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(SB203580),and Jun NH2-terminal kinase 1/2 inhibitor(SP600125).Interestingly,TGF-β1 significantly increased the firing threshold of action potentials but did not change their firing rate in cortical *** findings suggest that TGF-β1 can increase Nav1.3 expression through activation of the ERK1/2-JNK-MAPK pathway,which leads to a decrease in the firing threshold of action potentials in cortical neurons under pathological ***,this contributes to the occurrence and progression of neuroexcitatory-related diseases of the central nervous system.
