Middle and long-term clinical outcomes of patients with regional hepatolithiasis after subcutaneous tunnel and hepatocholangioplasty with utilization of the gallbladder

BACKGROUND: Roux-en-Y choledochojejunostomy is routinely performed in patients with regional hepatolithia-sis. However, some of these patients, who have a normal gallbladder and normal Oddi 's sphincter, are unnecessarily undergoing bilio-intestinal drainage. Alternatively, reconstruction can be achieved by subcutaneous tunnel and hepa-tocholangioplasty with the utilization of the gallbladder (STHG). This method is effective to potential endoscopic tunnel and intervention during follow-up, and prevention of reflux cholangitis as well as the disorders of the GI tract. METHODS: The middle and long-term complications of 46 patients who underwent STHG were analyzed. With B-ul-trasonography and biochemical assay, the contraction and concentration function of the gallbladder were also studied. RESULTS: Follow-up showed that all patients survived with a relatively normal life. One patient experienced right epigastric pain, chills and fever because of a stone which impacted in the left hepatic bile duct. Another patient had cholangitis because of biliary ascariasis. The two patients were treated by endoscopic therapy within the subcutaneous gallbladder under local anesthesia. CONCLUSIONS: This operation not only keeps the normal physical functional of the gallbladder, Oddi s sphincter and gastrointestinal tract, but also prevents reflux cholangitis and the disorder of the digestive tract. Hence STHG is a novel operation dealing with regional hepatolithiasis.

Double carbohelicenes have attracted considerable attention due to their aesthetic structures, distinct π-conjugation extension, inherent chirality, and intriguing optical and electronic properties. Herein, the concise de novo synthesis of a new double[5]carbohelicene 1 together with its chiroptical properties, isomerization process and lasing application is presented. 1 was synthesized by a simple protocol involving the formation of a 6,6′-bipentacene as the key intermediate. It is worth noting that1 existed as two diastereomers 1-PP/MM and 1-PM, which were successfully isolated and unambiguously confirmed by Xray crystallography. The optical resolution of the racemic 1-PP/MM was successfully achieved by chiral-phase highperformance liquid chromatography（HPLC）, and 1-PP and 1-MM were characterized by circular dichroism. Interestingly, it was found that 1-PP/MM could be completely isomerized to 1-PM upon heating, and the detailed thermodynamics and kinetics of the isomerization process were systematically investigated. 1-PM exhibited deep-red luminescence with emission maximum at 723 nm and fluorescence quantum yield as high as 32.95%. Consequently, we can showcase the lasing application of 1-PM by doping with epoxy resin to assemble a bottle microlaser spontaneously, which the lasing wavelength is 796.6 nm at a threshold of 0.8 m J cm-2. We believe that our studies, including the facile synthesis methodology, detailed isomerization studies, and lasing application, will shed some light on the design and synthesis of novel carbohelical systems with more functions.

Neuronal firing in the ventrolateral thalamus of patients with Parkinson＇s disease differs from that with essential tremor

Background Although thalamotomy could dramatically improve both parkinsonian resting tremor and essential tremor （ET）, the mechanisms are obviously different. This study aimed to investigate the neuronal activities in the ventrolateral thalamus of Parkinson＇s disease （PD） and ET. Methods Thirty-six patients （PD： 20, ET： 16） were studied. Microelectrode recordings in the ventral oral posterior （Vop）and the ventral intermediate nucleus （Vim） of thalamus was performed on these patients who underwent *** （EMG） was recorded simultaneously on the contralateral limbs to surgery. Single unit analysis and the interspike intervals （ISIs） were measured for each neuronal type. ISI histogram and auto-correlograms were constructed to estimate the pattern of neuronal firing. Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis （K-W） test were used to compare the mean spontaneous firing rate （MSFR） of neurons of PD and ET patients. Results Three hundred and twenty-three neurons were obtained from 20 PD trajectories, including 151 （46.7%） tremor related neuronal activity, 74 neurons （22.9%） with tonic firing, and 98 （30.4%） neurons with irregular discharge. One hundred and eighty-seven neurons were identified from 16 ET trajectories including 46 （24.6%） tremor-related neuronal activity, 77 （41.2%） neurons with tonic firing, and 64 neurons （34.2%） with irregular discharge. The analysis of MSFR of neurons with tonic firing was 26.7 （3.4-68.3） Hz （n=74） and that of neurons with irregular discharge （n=98） was 13.9 （3.0-58.1） Hz in PD; whereas MSFR of neurons with tonic firing （n=77） was 48.8 （19.0-135.5） Hz and that of neurons with irregular discharge （n=64） was 26.3 （8.7-84.7） Hz in ET. There were significant differences in the MSFR of two types of neuron for PD and ET （K-W test, both P〈0.05）. Significant differences in the MSFR of neuron were also obtained from Vop and Vim of PD and ET （16.3 Hz vs. 34.8 Hz, 28.0 Hz vs. 49.9 Hz）（K-W test, both P 〈0.05）, respectively. Conclusi

Relationship among symptoms, mucosal injury, and acid exposure in gastroesophageal reflux disease

Boosting bidirectional sulfur conversion enabled by introducing boron-doped atoms and phosphorus vacancies in Ni2P for lithium-sulfur batteries

lithium-sulfur （li-S） batteries have gained great attention due to the high theoretical energy density and low cost,yet their further commercialization has been obstructed by the notorious shuttle effect and sluggish redox ***,we supply a strategy to optimize the electron structure of Ni2P by concurrently introducing B-doped atoms and P vacancies in Ni2P （Vp-B-Ni2P）,thereby enhancing the bidirectional sulfur *** study indicates that the simultaneous introduction of B-doped atoms and P vacancies in Ni2P causes the redistribution of electron around Ni atoms,bringing about the upward shift of d-band center of Ni atoms and effective d-p orbital hybridization between Ni atoms and sulfur species,thus strengthening the chemical anchoring for lithium polysulfides （liPSs） as well as expediting the bidirectional conversion kinetics of sulfur ***,theoretical calculations reveal that the incorporation of B-doped atoms and P vacancies in Ni2P selectively promotes li2S dissolution and nucleation ***,the li-S batteries with Vp-B-Ni2P-separators present outstanding rate ability of 777 m A h g-1at 5 C and high areal capacity of 8.03 mA h cm-2under E/S of 5μL mg-1and sulfur loading of 7.20 mg *** work elucidates that introducing heteroatom and vacancy in metal phosphide collaboratively regulates the electron structure to accelerate bidirectional sulfur conversion.

Fabrication of carbon-supported Al2O3 nanoparticles via spontaneous cross-linking to enhance selective hydrogenation of furfural

Transplanted neuronal precursors migrate and differentiate in the devel-oping mouse brain

The subventricular zone (SVZ), lining the lateral ventricle in forebrain, retains a population of neuronal precursors with the ability of proliferation in adult mammals. To test the potential of neuronal precursors in adult mice, we transplanted adult SVZ cells labeled with fluorescent dye PKH26 into the lateral ventricle of the mouse brain in different development stages. The preliminary results indicated that the grafted cells were able to survive and migrate into multiple regions of the recipient brain, including SVZ, the third ventricle, thalamus, superior colliculus, inferior colliculus, cerebellum and olfactory bulb etc; and the amount of survival cells in different brain regions was correlated with the development stage of the recipient brain. Immunohistochemical studies showed that most of the grafted cells migrating into the specific target could express neuronal or astrocytic marker. MXene Hybridized Polymer with Enhanced Electromagnetic Energy Harvest for Sensitized Microwave Actuation and Self‑Powered Motion Sensing

Polymeric microwave actuators combining tissue-like softness with programmablemicrowave-responsive deformation hold great promise for mobile intelligentdevices and bionic soft robots. However, their application is challenged by restricted electromagneticsensitivity and intricate sensing coupling. In this study, a sensitized polymericmicrowave actuator is fabricated by hybridizing a liquid crystal polymer with Ti3C2Tx(MXene). Compared to the initial counterpart, the hybrid polymer exhibits unique spacechargepolarization and interfacial polarization, resulting in significant improvements of230% in the dielectric loss factor and 830% in the apparent efficiency of electromagneticenergy harvest. The sensitized microwave actuation demonstrates as the shortenedresponse time of nearly 10 s, which is merely 13% of that for the initial shape memory polymer. Moreover, the ultra-low content of MXene (upto 0.15 wt%) benefits for maintaining the actuation potential of the hybrid polymer. An innovative self-powered sensing prototype that combinesdriving and piezoelectric polymers is developed, which generates real-time electric potential feedback (open-circuit potential of ~ 3 mV) duringactuation. The polarization-dominant energy conversion mechanism observed in the MXene-polymer hybrid structure furnishes a new approachfor developing efficient electromagnetic dissipative structures and shows potential for advancing polymeric electromagnetic intelligent devices.
