Surgical resection of gastric stump cancer following proximal gastrectomy for adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction

BACKGROUND Proximal gastrectomy(PG) is performed widely as a function-preserving operation for early gastric cancer located in the upper third of the stomach and is an important function-preserving approach for esophagogastric junction(EGJ)adenocarcinoma. The incidence of gastric stump cancer(GSC) after PG is increasing. However, little is known about the GSC following PG because very few studies have been conducted on the *** To clarify clinicopathologic features, perioperative complications, and long-term survival rates after the resection of GSC following *** Data for patients with GSC following PG for adenocarcinoma of the EGJ diagnosed between January 1998 and December 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify factors associated with overall survival(OS). GSC was defined in accordance with the Japanese Gastric Cancer *** A total of 35 patients were identified. The median interval between the initial PGand resection of GSC was 4.9(range 0.7-12) years. In 21 of the 35 patients, the tumor was located in a nonanastomotic site of the gastric stump. Total gastrectomy was performed in 27 patients; the other 8 underwent partial gastrectomy. Postoperative complications occurred in 6 patients(17.1%). The tumor stage according to the depth of tumor invasion was T1 in 6 patients, T2 in3 patients, T3 in 9 patients, and T4 in 17 patients. Lymph node metastasis was observed in 18 patients. Calculated 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS rates were 86.5%, 62.3%,and 54.2%, respectively. An efficient and novel procedure for the preparation of pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine derivatives through multi-component reaction of aldehyde, 5-amino-3-methyl-1-phenylpyrazole and malononitrile or cyanoacetate in [bmim][BF4] is described in this paper. Advantages of the method presented here include mild conditions, high yields together with a green nature and ease of recovery and reuse of the reaction medium.

Expressions of the γ_2 chain of laminin-5 and secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and their relation to prognosis

Previous studies have shown that the expressions of the γ2 chain of laminin-5 and secreted protein acidic and rich in cysteine (SPARC) play important roles in oncogenesis and the development of carcinoma. To assess the expressions of laminin-5 γ2 chain and SPARC in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and to clarify the prognostic significance of the expressions of laminin-5 γ2 chain and SPARC in esophageal SCC, we detected the expressions of laminin-5 γ2 chain and SPARC in cancer tissue and corresponding normal mucosa from 116 patients with advanced (stages II-IV) esophageal SCC using the tissue microarray-based immunohistochemistry and analyzed the correlation of the expressions with clinicopathologic characteristics and survival. We found that in normal esophageal tissues, laminin-5 γ2 chain was expressed in the basement membrane, whereas in esophageal SCC tissues, laminin-5 γ2 chain was expressed in the cytoplasm of carcinoma cells, with a positive rate of 72.4%. SPARC was not detected in normal esophageal mucosa, but was expressed in stromal fibroblasts in 84.6% of esophageal SCC cases and in cancer cells in 7.8% of esophageal SCC cases. There was a significant correlation between laminin-5 γ2 chain and stromal SPARC expression in esophageal SCC (Spearman's rho = 0.423, P < 0.001). The expressions of both laminin-5 γ2 chain and stromal SPARC were correlated with survival (P = 0.032 and P = 0.034, respectively). In stage-II esophageal SCC, the expression of laminin-5 γ2 chain was significantly correlated with survival (P = 0.023), while the expression of SPARC was not significantly correlated with survival (P = 0.154). Patients with elevated levels of laminin-5 γ2 chain and SPARC expressions had a poorer prognosis than did those lacking elevated levels of laminin-5 γ2 chain expression and/or elevated levels of SPARC expression (P = 0.001). Hydrogen evolution reaction activity enhancement from active site turnover mechanism

Although heteroatom doping is an effective way to improve the catalytic activity of transition metal phosphides(TMPs),the mechanism of activity enhancement needs to be further *** this end,we synthesized a Co-doped Ni_(2)P catalyst as a research model and found that the introduction of heterogeneous Co reconstructed the charge distribution around the P site,which effectively enhanced the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)activity of the pure Ni_(2)*** on in-situ Raman real-time monitoring technology,we monitored for the first time that Co doping triggered a switch of the active site(from the original Co-active site to the P-active site),which promoted the adsorption of H_(2)O to enhance the HER *** density functional theory(DFT)calculations indicated that the P site of Co-Ni_(2)P expressed the highest activity and the Ni site of pure Ni_(2)P expressed the highest activity,which further confirms the in-situ Raman monitoring *** active site turnover mechanism discovered in this study will undoubtedly provide more rational and targeted ideas for future catalyst design.

Polyether ether ketone(PEEK)has good mechanical ***,its high viscosity when molten limits its use because it is hard to *** nanocomposites containing both carbon nanotubes(CNTs)and polyether imide(PEI)were pre-pared by a direct wet powder blending method using a vertical injection molding *** addition of an optimum amount of PEI lowered the viscosity of the molten PEEK by approximately 50%while producing an increase in the toughness of the nanocom-posites,whose strain to failure increased by 129%,and fracture energy increased by 97%.The uniformly dispersed CNT/PEI powder reduced the processing difficulty of PEEK nanocomposites without affecting the thermal *** improvement of the strength and viscosity of PEEK facilitate its use in the preparation of thermoplastic composites.

Water distribution extracted from mining subsidence area using Kriging interpolation algorithm

By comprehensively analyzing the data of geology and mining, Kriging algorithm was introduced to analyze the thematic information of geological data, to rapidly extract mining parameters for predicting mining subsidence, and to effectively integrate geomorphology and predict information. As a result, the change information of water body is successfully detected from the prediction of surface subsidence due to mining activity. Analysis shows that the elevation of farmland in the west side of water body will be lower than ever, and the west part farmland will be submerged. However, there is no evidence for impacting the villages. All the information provides a reference for efficiently assessing environmental impact due to mining activity, which can help to govern the subsidence of the area reasonably.

Analysis of the influencing factors and clinical related characteristics of pulmonary tuberculosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
