Development of a linear compressor for two-stage pulse tube cryocoolers

A valveless linear compressor was built up to drive a self-made two-stage pulse tube cryocooler. With a designed maximum swept volume of 60 cm3, the compressor can provide the cryocooler with a pressure volume (PV) power of 400 W. Preliminary measurements of the compressor indicated that both an efficiency of 35%～55% and a pressure ratio of 1.3～1.4 could be obtained. The two-stage pulse tube cryocooler driven by this compressor achieved the lowest temperature of 14.2 K.

Association between serum resistin level and cardiovascular events in postmenopausal women with acute coronary syndrome undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention

Background As an adipocytokine, resistin has been proposed as a link between inflammation, metabolic disorder and atherosclerosis. The aim of the study is to evaluate whether serum resistin is associated with acute coronary syndrome （ACS） and major adverse cardiovascular events （MACEs） among postmenopausal women with ACS undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention （PCI）. Methods A total of 106 consecutive postmenopausal women who underwent coronary angiography for evaluation of suspected myocardial ischemia were enrolled. Pre-procedure serum resistin, inflammatory and metabolic biomarkers were measured. All participants were followed for seven years for MACEs, including cardiovascular death, recurrent nonfatal myocardial infarction, and re-PCl. Results Patients with ACS （n=69） had significantly higher resistin levels than those without coronary artery disease （CAD）（n=37）（4.61 （1.79-10.80） ng/ml vs. 2.36 （0.85-4.15） ng/ml, P=0.002）. Correlation analysis revealed positive correlations between resistin levels and inflammatory and metabolic factors （P 〈0.05）. A follow-up of a mean of 83.4 months showed that patients with ACS suffered more MACEs than those without （13.0% vs. 2.7%, P=0.05）. Adjusted for cardiovascular risks, inflammatory and metabolic factors, multiple Logistic regression analysis indicated that an elevated resistin level was an independent predictor of ACS onset （OR=1.139, 95% CI 1.024-1.268, P=0.017） and of MACEs after PCI （OR=1.099, 95% CI 1.015-1.189, P=-0.019）. To clarify the association between resistin levels and MACEs, ACS patients were divided into two subgroups on the basis of resistin levels. Compared with the low resistin subgroup （≤4.35 ng/ml, n=32）, patients in the high resistin subgroup （〉4.35 ng/ml, n=37） were more prone to suffer MACEs （21.6% vs. 3.1%, P=0.015）. Flow Field Simulation and Parameter Analysis of Hydraulic Unbalanced Bionic Self-recovery Actuator for Rotary Equipment

The rotor is the most important component of rotating machinery,and the vibration produced by its mass unbalance has a serious influence on the secure and steady operation of the machine,so an effective online suppression technology is urgently needed.A new hydraulic unbalanced bionic self-recovery system is introduced,imitating the way of manually repairing faulty *** accomplish the effect of actuator mass redistribution,the technology employs pressurized air to drive the quantitative transfer of liquid in the reservoir cavity at opposite *** can complete the online adjustment of the equipment's balancing state and suppress the unbalanced vibration of equipment in real time,which gives the equipment the ability to maintain an autonomous health state and improve equipment *** composition and working principle of the system are introduced in detail,and the key performance parameters,such as the minimum running speed and the balancing liquid transfer speed,are analyzed *** fluid-solid coupling model of the actuator was established,and the two-phase flow from inside the hydraulic unbalanced bionic self-recovery actuator was simulated under multiple working conditions and the performance parameters were quantitatively analyzed.A balancing simulation test bed was built,and its effectiveness was verified by performance parameter tests and unbalanced bionic self-recovery *** experimental results show that the mass distribution adjustment of the balancing disk can be achieved using different viscosity balancing liquid,and the response of liquid viscosity 10 cSt is faster than that of liquid viscosity 100 cSt in the process of balancing liquid transfer,and the time is reduced by more than 75%;the system can reduce the simulated rotor amplitude from 18.3μm to 10.6μm online in real time,which provides technical support for the subsequent development of a new generation of bionic intelligent equipment.

Diet-induced hyperhomocysteinemia exacerbates vascular reverse remodeling of balloon-injured arteries in rat

Background While hyperhomocysteinemia is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, the effect of hyperhomocysteinemia on the vascular adventitia and vessel remodeling has not been clearly demonstrated. We investigated the effect of the hyperhomocysteinemia on adventitial hyperplasia and vascular remodeling following balloon injury in rats and the underlying mechanisms. Methods Rats were fed with diet containing methionine for 4 weeks to increase plasma homocysteine before balloon injury. Vascular geometrical changes were assessed at different time points following balloon injury. The collagen deposition was determined by picrosirius red staining and immunohistochemical staining. Results When compared with normal diet group, moderate hyperhomocysteinemia in methionine diet group significantly exacerbated adventitial hyperplasia at day 7 and collagen deposition mainly in the adventitia at day 28 following balloon injury. The increased plasma homocysteine level significantly increased collagen deposition in the adventitia. There was a negative correlation （r=-0.698; P〈0.01） between the luminal area and the collagen content in the adventitia on day 28 following balloon injury. In cultured adventitial fibroblasts isolated from rat aorta, 100 pmol/L L-homocysteine （L-Hcy） significantly down-regulated matrix metalloproteinase-2 activity by 43% as determined by in vitro gelatin zymography （P 〈0.05） and up-regulated the expression of collagen type I by 187% （P 〈0.05） assessed by Western blotting. Conclusions Hyperhomocysteinemia exacerbated vascular constrictive remodeling by accelerated neointima formation and collagen accumulation in the adventitia. Increased collagen deposition may be the underlying mechanism.

Progressive memory loss and cognitive impairment are the main clinical manifestations of Alzheimer’s disease(AD).Currently,there is no effective drug available for the treatment of *** studies have demonstrated that the cognitive impairment of AD is associated with oxidative stress and the inhibition of AKT and ERK *** seed proanthocyanidin extract(GSPE)has been shown to have strong antioxidant effect and can protect the nervous system from oxidative stress *** study aimed to investigate the protective effect of GSPE on the cognitive and synaptic impairments of AD using a sporadic AD rat model induced by intracerebroventricular(ICV)injection of streptozotocin(STZ)(ICV-STZ).Rats were treated with GSPE(50,100,or 200 mg/kg every day)by intragastrical(ig.)administration for continuous 7 weeks,and ICV-STZ(3 mg/kg)was performed on the first day and third day of week *** and memory abilities were assessed by the Morris water maze(MWM)test at week *** behavioral test,hippocampal long-term potentiation(LTP)was recorded,and the levels of malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutases(SOD),glutathione(GSH)and the protein expression of AKT and ERK were measured in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex of *** study revealed that ICV-STZ significantly impaired the working learning ability and hippocampal LTP of rats,significantly increased the levels of MDA,and decreased the activity of SOD and GSH in the hippocampus and cerebral *** contrast,GSPE treatment prevented the impairment of cognitive function and hippocampal LTP induced by ICV-STZ,decreased the level of MDA,and increased the level of SOD and ***,Western blot results showed that GSPE treatment could prevent the loss of AKT and ERK activities in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex induced by *** findings demonstrate that GSPE treatment could ameliorate the impairment of cognitive ability and hippocampal synaptic plasticity in a rat model of sporadic AD

Black phosphorus (BP) is a new class of two-dimensional (2D) layered material, which shows the unanticipated characteristics in many aspects including electronics, transistors, sensors, energy storage, batteries, photocatalysis, and other applications due to its high charge carrier mobility, tunable direct bandgap, and unique in-plane anisotropic structure. In addition, BP has drawn tremendous attention in the field of tribology due to the low shear strength, the layered structure, and the weak connected force between the layers by van der Waals interaction. In recent years, many significant progresses have been made in experimental studies on BP materials as solid lubricants or lubrication additives. This work offers a review of researching regarding the tribological properties of BP. Moreover, the lubrication mechanisms of BP as the lubrication additive including the formation of the tribo-film, micro-bearing effect, and self-repair performance are also summarized. Finally, the current challenges and prospects of BP material as lubricant are proposed.

Synthesis of diethers derived from furoin by phase transfer catalysis under microwave irradiation

A series of new diethers were obtained by alkylation of furoin under microwave irradiation （MWI） in phase transfer catalysis （PTC） conditions. The products of alkyl halides were synthesized in good yields （〉75%） within a few minutes, and the products of dihalides were synthesized in fair yields （about 45%）. The yields are dramatically improved compared to conventional heating under the same conditions, in spite of similar profiles of rising in temperature.
