Optimal Reinsurance and Investment Strategies for Insurers with Regime-Switching and State-Dependent Utility Function

Flow around three rectangular cylinders arranged in connected and separated Y-shape

Characteristics of cross flow around three rectangular cylinders with two aspect ratios of breadth to width arranged in connected and separated Y-shape at various angles of incident flow were studied by means of force measurement in a wind tunnel. Flow visualizations with smoke-wire technique for typical cases were also given. Different types of flow patterns were formed for individual models at different angles of incident flow. From the results of fluctuating velocity measurement in the wake, features of vibration were determined. It shows that as the wind blows along the lines of one limb or rectangular cylinder of the model, oscillation is weak, whereas when the wind blows along the bisector lines of two limbs or cylinders, strong vibration is observed. It is associated with the regular vortex shedding.

World Expo 2010 Pavilions Clustering Analysis Based on Self-Organizing Map

This paper reports the classification of 90 sample pavilions in Shanghai World Expo. An artificial intelligence based nonlinear clustering method known as Self-Organizing Map(SOM) has been used to classify expo pavilions. SOM is an efficient tool for visualization of multidimensional data. To conduct the classification, four characteristics namely Hurst exponent for queue length, Hurst exponent for waiting time, mean queue length and mean waiting time have been applied. The classification results show that Shanghai World Expo pavilions can be optimally classified into four classes. This result will shed light on further studies that how to manage the queue of World Expo pavilions in the future.

Methane absorption and application of mixed organic aggregate prepared from Span80 and alkaline salt

The water-based materials for mine gas absorption and explosion suppression were prepared, in which the mixed organic aggregate of Span80 and alkaline salt can be used as methane absorbent. Methane was used as a model of mine gas, and the absorptions of methane with different complex materials were studied using head space gas chromatography. Then the state of aqueous material was characterized with laser light scattering instrument and the effects of different complex materials on explosion suppression were preliminarily studied in explosion chamber which can simulate mine gas explosion. The research results showed that complex material could absorb methane and there was some corre- lation between the mean diameter of organic aggregate in aqueous material and the absorption effect. Additionally, the aqueous material could suppress the methane explosion to some degree. The material can absorb mine gas in atomization condition, therefore, degrease mine gas concentration and influence the distribution of mine gas in the space, and then suppress the mine gas explosion to some extent.

N_2O and NH_3 emissions from a bioreactor landfill operated under limited aerobic degradation conditions

The combination of leachate recirculation and aeration to landfill may be an efficient way for in-situ nitrogen ***,nitrogenous substances contained in the landfill layer are concomitantly transformed into N2O and NH3,leading to increased emissions into the *** the present study,the emissions of N2O and NH3 were measured under conditions of fresh or partially stabilized refuse with or without leachate recirculation or intermittent *** results showed that the largest N2O emission（12.4 mg-N/L of the column） was observed in the aerated column loaded with partially stabilized refuse and recycled with the leachate of low C/N ratio;while less than 0.33 mg-N/L of the column was produced in the other columns.N2O production was positively correlated with the prolonged aerobic time and negatively related with the C/N ratio in the recycled ***3 volatilization increased with enhanced gas flow and concentration of free ammonia in the leachate,and the highest cumulative volatilization quantity was 1.7 mg-N/L of the column.

Exploration of Gas-Dependent Self-Adaptive Reconstruction Behavior of Cu₂O for Electrochemical CO₂ Conversion to Multi-Carbon Products

Structural reconstruction of electrocatalysts plays a pivotal role in catalytic performances for CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), whereas the behavior is by far superficially understood. Here, we report that CO2 accessibility results in a universal self-adaptive structural reconstruction from Cu2O to Cu@CuxO composites, ending with feeding gas-dependent microstructures and catalytic performances. The CO2-rich atmosphere favors reconstruction for CO2RR, whereas the CO2-deficient one prefers that for hydrogen evolution reaction. With the assistance of spectroscopic analysis and theoretical calculations, we uncover a CO2-induced passivation behavior by identifying a reduction-resistant but catalytic active Cu(I)-rich amorphous layer stabilized by *CO intermediates. Additionally, we find extra CO production is indispensable for the robust production of C2H4. An inverse correlation between durability and FECO/FEC2H4 is disclosed, suggesting that the self-stabilization process involving the absorption of *CO intermediates on Cu(I) sites is essential for durable electrolysis. guided by this insight, we design hollow Cu2O nanospheres for durable and selective CO2RR electrolysis in producing C2H4. Our work recognizes the previously overlooked passivation reconstruction and self-stabilizing behavior and highlights the critical role of the local atmosphere in modulating reconstruction and catalytic processes.

Wavelet denoising and nonlinear analysis of solids concentration signal in circulating fluidized bed riser

Particles,particle aggregates,and reactor walls complicate the dynamic microstructures of circulating fluidized beds(CFBs).Using local solids concentration data from a 10-m-high and 76.2-mm-inner-diameter riser with FCC(Fluid Catalytic Cracking)particles(dp=67μm,ρp=1500 kg/m^3),this paper presents an improved denoising process for use before nonlinear chaos *** the soft-threshold denoising method in the wavelet domain with experimental empty bed signals as base data to estimate the denoising threshold,an efficient denoising algorithm was proposed and used for the dynamic signals in *** shows that for the local solids concentration time series,high-frequency fluctuations may be one of the system properties,while noise interference can also make a low-frequency *** exact denoising method is needed in such *** correlation dimension and Kolmogorov entropy were calculated using denoised data and the results showed that the particle behavior in the CFB is highly ***,two correlation dimensions coexist in a low-flux *** first correlation dimension is low and corresponds to small-scale fluctuations that reveal a high-frequency pseudo-periodic movement,but the second correlation dimension is high and corresponds to large-scale fluctuations that indicate multi-frequency movements,including particle aggregation and *** the same axial level,the first correlation dimensions change slightly with radial position,and the main tendency is high at the center but slightly lower near the ***,the second correlation dimensions show large changes along the radial direction,are again high in the core region,and after r/R≥0.6(r as radial position,R as radius of the riser),the dimensions clearly drop *** indicates that the particle behavior is more complex and has higher degrees of freedom at the center,but clusters near the wall are restrained to some degree because of wall effects.

First observation results of Macao Science Satellite-1 on lightning-induced electron precipitation

The Medium-energy Electron Spectrometers(MES) is a space-borne instrument onboard Macao Science Satellite-1(MSS-1) dedicated to monitoring the typical charged particle radiation characteristics in the satellite orbit and the process of their occurrence and development, including short bursts of lightning-induced electron precipitation(LEP).This paper presents the first results of the LEP measurements by the MSS-1.47 LEP events are identified with the routine operation for 3 months since satellite launch, all within the range of 1.5lightning discharges are definitively geo-located for these LEP *** LEP events occur within lightning and consist of 40–300 keV electrons.A preliminary observation result indicates that, with medium-energy electron detectors, MSS-1can present in-situ observations of large regions of enhanced background precipitation and reveal their fine spatiotemporal characteristics and spectral *** collaborative VLF ground-based measurements at the Great Wall Station, Antarctica also have a good correspondence with LEP measurements of *** observations also imply that lightning activity has a modulation effect on the energetic electron energy-spatial structure.

Identification and characterization of long-InDels through whole genome resequencing to facilitate fine-mapping of a QTL for plant height in soybean(Glycine max ***.)

With the development of sequencing technology, insertions-deletions(InDels) have been increasingly reported to be involved in the genetic determination of agronomical traits. However, most studies have focused on the identification and application of short-InDels(1–15 bp) for genetic analysis. The objective of this study was to deeply deploy long-InDels(>15 bp) for the genetic analysis of important agronomic traits in soybean. A total of 13 573 polymorphic long-InDels were identified between parents Zhongpin 03-5373(ZP) and Zhonghuang 13(ZH), which were unevenly distributed on 20 chromosomes of soybean, varying from 321 in Chr11 to 1 246 in Chr18. Consistent with the distribution pattern of annotated genes, the average density of long-InDels in arm regions was significantly higher than that in pericentromeric regions at the P=0.01 level. A total of 2 704(19.9% of total) long-InDels were located in genic regions, including 319 large-effect long-InDels, which resulted in truncated or elongated protein sequences. A previously identified QTL(qP H16) underlying plant height was further analyzed, and it was found that 26 out of 35(74.3%) long-InDel markers located in the qPH16 region showed clear polymorphisms between parents ZP and ZH. Seven markers, including three long-InDels and four previously reported SNP markers, were used to genotype 242 recombinant inbred lines derived from ZP×ZH. As a result, the qPH16 locus was narrowed from a 960-kb region to a 477.55-kb region, containing 65 annotated genes. Therefore, these long-InDels are a complementary genetic resource of SNPs and short-InDels for plant height and can facilitate genetic studies and molecular assisted selection breeding in soybean.
