BACKGROUND Myocardial infarction(MI)is a critical cardiovascular event with multifaceted etiology,involving several genetic and environmental factors.It is essential to understand the function of plasma metabolites in the development of MI and unravel its complex pathogenesis.METHODS This study employed a bidirectional Mendelian randomization(MR)approach to investigate the causal relationships between plasma metabolites and MI risk.We used genetic instruments as proxies for plasma metabolites and MI and conducted MR analyses in both directions to assess the impact of metabolites on MI risk and vice versa.In addition,the large-scale genome-wide association studies datasets was used to identify genetic variants associated with plasma metabolite(1400 metabolites)and MI(20,917 individuals with MI and 440,906 individuals without MI)susceptibility.Inverse variance weighted was the primary method for estimating causal effects.MR estimates are expressed as beta coefficients or odds ratio(OR)with 95%CI.REsuLTS We identified 14 plasma metabolites associated with the occurrence of MI(Plites[propionylglycine levels(OR=0.922,95%CI:0.881–0.965,Pline ratio(OR=0.912,95%CI:0.869–0.958,Plites[1-palmitoyl-2-arachidonoyl-GPE(16:0/20:4)levels(OR=1.051,95%CI:1.018–1.084,P=0.002),behenoyl dihydrosphingomyelin(d18:0/22:0)levels(OR=1.076,95%CI:1.027–1.128,P=0.002),1-stearoyl-2-docosahexaenoyl-GPE(18:0/22:6)levels(OR=1.067,95%CI:1.027–1.109,P=0.001),alpha-ketobutyrate levels(OR=1.108,95%CI:1.041–1.180,P=0.001),5-acetylamino-6-formylam

The design of mini-missiles(MMs)presents several novel challenges.The stringent mission requirement to reach a target with a certain precision imposes a high guidance precision.The miniaturization of the size of MMs makes the design of the guidance,navigation,and control(GNC)have a larger-thanbefore impact on the main-body design(shape,motor,and layout design)and its design objective,i.e.,flight performance.Pursuing a trade-off between flight performance and guidance precision,all the relevant interactions have to be accounted for in the design of the main body and the GNC system.Herein,a multi-objective and multidisciplinary design optimization(MDO)is proposed.Disciplines pertinent to motor,aerodynamics,layout,trajectory,flight dynamics,control,and guidance are included in the proposed MDO framework.The optimization problem seeks to maximize the range and minimize the guidance error.The problem is solved by using the nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II.An optimum design that balances a longer range with a smaller guidance error is obtained.Finally,lessons learned about the design of the MM and insights into the trade-off between flight performance and guidance precision are given by comparing the optimum design to a design provided by the traditional approach.

Electrochemical filtration can not only enrich low concentrations of pollutants but also produce reactive oxygen species to interact with toxic pollutants with the assistance of a power supply,making it an effective strategy for drinking water purification.In addition,the application of electrochemical filtration facilitates the reduction of pretreatment procedures and the use of chemicals,which has outstanding potential for maximizing process simplicity and reducing operating costs,enabling the production of safe drinking water in smaller installations.In recent years,the research on electrochemical filtration has gradually increased,but there has been a lack of attention on its application in the removal of low concentrations of pollutants from low conductivity water.In this review,membrane substrates and electrocatalysts used to improve the performance of electrochemical membranes are briefly summarized.Meanwhile,the application prospects of emerging single-atom catalysts in electrochemical filtration are also presented.Thereafter,several electrochemical advanced oxidation processes coupled with membrane filtration are described,and the related working mechanisms and their advantages and shortcomings used in drinking water purification are illustrated.Finally,the roles of electrochemical filtration in drinking water purification are presented,and the main problems and future perspectives of electrochemical filtration in the removal of low concentration pollutants are discussed.

This article presents research work on a spectroscopic survey telescope.Our idea is as follows:for such a telescope,a pure reflecting optical system is designed,which should have an aperture and a field of view(FOV)both as large as possible and excellent image quality,and then a strip lensm(lens-prism)atmospheric dispersion corrector(S-ADC)is added,only for correcting the atmospheric dispersion.Given the fund limitation and the simplicity of scaling up,some 12-m telescopes are designed as examples.su,Korsch,and Meinel put forward the four-mirror Nasmyth systems I and II,which are used in this paper.FOVs of 1.5°,2°,and 2.5°are selected.For all systems,the image qualities are excellent.Because the S-ADC relaxes the optical glass size restriction,this 12-m telescope with a FOV of 2.5°can be magnified in proportion to a 16-m telescope.Its etendue(from Frenchétendue)and focal surface will now be the largest in the world.In such a telescope,a pure reflecting optical system can also be obtained.A subsequent coudésystem is designed with excellent image quality.

BACKGROUND Gastric cancer(GC)is a common malignancy of the digestive system.According to global 2018 cancer data,GC has the fifth-highest incidence and the thirdhighest fatality rate among malignant tumors.More than 60%of GC are linked to infection with Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori),a gram-negative,active,microaerophilic,and helical bacterium.This parasite induces GC by producing toxic factors,such as cytotoxin-related gene A,vacuolar cytotoxin A,and outer membrane proteins.Ferroptosis,or iron-dependent programmed cell death,has been linked to GC,although there has been little research on the link between H.pylori infection-related GC and ferroptosis.AIM To identify coregulated differentially expressed genes among ferroptosis-related genes(FRGs)in GC patients and develop a ferroptosis-related prognostic model with discrimination ability.METHODS Gene expression profiles of GC patients and those with H.pylori-associated GC were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus(GEO)databases.The FRGs were acquired from the FerrDb database.A ferroptosis-related gene prognostic index(FRGPI)was created using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator–Cox regression.The predictive ability of the FRGPI was validated in the GEO cohort.Finally,we verified the expression of the hub genes and the activity of the ferroptosis inducer FIN56 in GC cell lines and tissues.REsuLTS Four hub genes were identified(NOX4,MTCH1,GABARAPL2,and SLC2A3)and shown to accurately predict GC and H.pylori-associated GC.The FRGPI based on the hub genes could independently predict GC patient survival;GC patients in the high-risk group had considerably worse overall survival than did those in the low-risk group.The FRGPI was a significant predictor of GC prognosis and was strongly correlated with disease progression.Moreover,the gene expression levels of common immune checkpoint proteins dramatically increased in the highrisk subgroup of the FRGPI cohort.The hub genes were also confirmed to be highly overexpressed in GC cell line

Fast Blood Oxygenation through Hemocompatible Asymmetric Polymer of Intrinsic Microporosity Membranes

Membrane technology has attracted considerable attention for chemical and medical applications,among others.Artificial organs play important roles in medical science.A membrane oxygenator,also known as artificial lung,can replenish O_(2) and remove CO_(2) of blood to maintain the metabolism of patients with cardiopulmonary failure.However,the membrane,a key component,is subjected to inferior gas transport property,leakage propensity,and insufficient hemocompatibility.In this study,we report efficient blood oxygenation by using an asymmetric nanoporous membrane that is fabricated using the classic nonsolvent-induced phase separation method for polymer of intrinsic microporosity-1.The intrinsic superhydrophobic nanopores and asymmetric configuration endow the membrane with water impermeability and gas ultrapermeability,up to 3,500 and 1,100 gas permeation units for CO_(2) and O_(2),respectively.Moreover,the rational hydrophobic–hydrophilic nature,electronegativity,and smoothness of the surface enable the substantially restricted protein adsorption,platelet adhesion and activation,hemolysis,and thrombosis for the membrane.Importantly,during blood oxygenation,the asymmetric nanoporous membrane shows no thrombus formation and plasma leakage and exhibits fast O_(2) and CO_(2) transport processes with exchange rates of 20 to 60 and 100 to 350 ml m^(−2) min^(−1),respectively,which are 2 to 6 times higher than those of conventional membranes.The concepts reported here offer an alternative route to fabricate high-performance membranes and expand the possibilities of nanoporous materials for membrane-based artificial organs.

Background Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)tends to have mild presentations in children.However,severe and critical cases do arise in the pediatric population with debilitating systemic impacts and can be fatal at times,meriting further attention from clinicians.Meanwhile,the intricate interactions between the pathogen virulence factors and host defense mechanisms are believed to play indispensable roles in severe COVID-19 pathophysiology but remain incompletely understood.Data sources A comprehensive literature review was conducted for pertinent publications by reviewers independently using the PubMed,Embase,and Wanfang databases.Searched keywords included“COVID-19 in children”,“severe pediatric COVID-19”,and“critical illness in children with COVID-19”.Results Risks of developing severe COVID-19 in children escalate with increasing numbers of co-morbidities and an unvaccinated status.Acute respiratory distress stress and necrotizing pneumonia are prominent pulmonary manifestations,while various forms of cardiovascular and neurological involvement may also be seen.Multiple immunological processes are implicated in the host response to COVID-19 including the type I interferon and inflammasome pathways,whose dysregulation in severe and critical diseases translates into adverse clinical manifestations.Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children(MIS-C),a potentially life-threatening immune-mediated condition chronologically associated with COVID-19 exposure,denotes another scientific and clinical conundrum that exemplifies the complexity of pediatric immunity.Despite the considerable dissimilarities between the pediatric and adult immune systems,clinical trials dedicated to children are lacking and current management recommendations are largely adapted from adult guidelines.Conclusions Severe pediatric COVID-19 can affect multiple organ systems.The dysregulated immune pathways in severe COVID-19 shape the disease course,epitomize the vast functional diversity of the pediatric immune system and highlight the immun

The gut is the largest digestive and absorptive organ,which is essential for induction of mucosal and systemic immune responses,and maintenance of metabolic-immune homeostasis.The intestinal components contain the epithelium,stromal cells,immune cells,and enteric nervous system(ENS),as well as the outers,such as gut microbiota,metabolites,and nutrients.The dyshomeostasis of intestinal microenvironment induces abnormal intestinal development and functions,even colon diseases including dysplasia,inflammation and tumor.Several recent studies have identified that ENS plays a crucial role in maintaining the immune homeostasis of gastrointestinal(GI)microenvironment.The crosstalk between ENS and immune cells,mainly macrophages,T cells,and innate lymphoid cells(ILCs),has been found to exert important regulatory roles in intestinal tissue programming,homeostasis,function,and inflammation.In this review,we mainly summarize the critical roles of the interactions between ENS and immune cells in intestinal homeostasis during intestinal development and diseases progression,to provide theoretical bases and ideas for the exploration of immunotherapy for gastrointestinal diseases with the ENS as potential novel targets.

Objective: To clarify the potential mechanism of Banxia Xiexin Decoction(BXD) on colorectal cancer(CRC) from the perspective of metabolomics. Methods: Forty male C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into normal control(NC), azoxymethane/dextran sulfate sodium(AOM/DSS) model, low-dose BXD(L-BXD), high-dose BXD(H-BXD) and mesalamine(MS) groups according to a random number table, 8 mice in each group. Colorectal cancer model was induced by AOM/DSS. BXD was administered daily at doses of 3.915(L-BXD) and 15.66 g/kg(H-BXD) by gavage for consecutive 21 days, and 100 mg/kg MS was used as positive control. Following the entire modeling cycle, colon length of mice was measured and quantity of colorectal tumors were counted. The spleen and thymus index were determined by calculating the spleen/thymus weight to body weight. Inflammatory cytokine and changes of serum metabolites were analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits and ultra performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole/time-of-flight mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q/TOF-MS), respectively. Results: Notably, BXD supplementation protected against weight loss, mitigated tumor formation, and diminished histologic damage in mice treated with AOM/DSS(Psuppressed expression of serum inflammatory enzymes, and improved the spleen and thymus index(Plites were screened in the AOM/DSS group, including 48 potential biomarkers, involving 18 main metabolic pathways. Totally 18 potential biomarkers related to CRC were identified, and the anti-CRC mechanism of BXD was closely related to D-glutamine and D-glutamate metabolism, phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan biosynthesis, arginine biosynthesis, nitrogen metabolism and so on. Conclusion: BXD exerts partial protective effects on AOM/DSS-induced CRC by reducing inflammation, protecting organism immunity ability, and regulating amino acid metabolism.
