Background Detecting small breast tumors is difficult for conventional ultrasound. The goal of this study was to assess the value of ultrasound elastography in characterizing small breast tumors and to compare its sensitivity, specificity and accuracy with conventional ultrasound. Methods A total of 308 breast tumors less than 2 cm in size from 283 in-hospital patients examined with both conventional ultrasound and ultrasound elastography were retrospectively analyzed. The results were compared to surgical pathology. Results There were 104 malignant and 204 benign lesions. The sensitivities of sonography and sonoelastography were similar （P 〈0.05）, and the sensitivity of the two modalities combined improved remarkably to 97.1%. The mean elastic score of malignant and benign tumors less than 2 cm were 3.76±1.01 and 1.73±0.99, respectively （P 〈0.05）, and the mean elastic score of the false-negative lesions on conventional ultrasound was 3.61±1.14. Conclusions Ultrasound elastography in combination with conventional ultrasound can improve the sensitivity for detecting small breast tumors. It is also valuable in detecting small malignant tumors which are difficult to diagnose with conventional ultrasound. Ultrasound elastography can be a useful adjunct to conventional ultrasound in diagnosing small breast tumors.

Effect of low-energy shock waves in microfracture holes in the repair of articular cartilage defects in a rabbit model

Background Microfracture is a type of bone marrow stimulation in arthroscopic cartilage repair. However, the overall concentration of the mesenchymal stem cells is quite low and declines with age, and in the end the lesion is filled by fibrocartilage. The aim of this research was to investigate a novel method of enhancing microfracture by determining whether low-energy shock waves in microfracture holes would facilitate cartilage repair in a rabbit *** full-thickness cartilage defects were created at the medial femoral condyle of 36 mature New Zealand white rabbits without penetrating subchondral bone. The rabbits were randomly divided into three groups. In experimental group A, low-energy shock-wave therapy was performed in microfracture holes （diameter, 1 mm） at an energy flux density （EFD） of 0.095 m J/mm2 and 200 impulses by DolorClast Master （Electro Medical Systems SA, Switzerland）microprobe （diameter, 0.8 mm）. In experimental group B, microfracture was performed alone. The untreated rabbits served as a control group. At 4, 8, and 12 weeks after the operations, repair tissues at the defects were analyzed stereologically, histologically, and *** The defects were filled gradually with repair tissues in experimental groups A and B, and no repair tissues had formed in the control group at 12 weeks. Repair tissues in experimental group A contained more chondrocytes,proteoglycans, and collagen type Ⅱ than those in experimental group B. Four non-pregnant multiparous lactating goats were used in a 4 × 4 latin square experiment in the present study. The four treatments were abomasal infusion of 0, 50, 100, and 150 g d^-1 glucose. The results showed that graded glucose infusion increased milk yield （P 〈 0.01）. The highest milk yield was observed when 50 g d^-1 glucose was infused. An infusion of glucose at 100 or 150 g d^-1 failed to increase milk yield further and milk yield of the 100 g d ^-1 glucose infusion treatment was even significantly lower than that of the 50 g d^-1 treatment （P 〈 0.01）. Though milk fat content was gradually decreased by graded glucose infusions and milk fat yield of the 100 and 150 g d 1 treatments were lower than that of the control （P 〈 0.01）; milk fat yield of the 50 g d i treatment was not depressed and was higher than that of the control （P 〈 0.01）. Graded glucose infusion did not change the contents of milk protein and non-fatty solids. Yields of milk protein （P 〈 0.05）, lactose （P 〈 0.01）, non-fat solids （P 〈 0.01）, and lactose content （P 〈 0.01） of the 50 g d^-1 treatment were higher than those of the control but had no difference among the other three treatments. Contents of those de novo synthesized fatty acids in milk fat remained unchanged or increased and those preformed fatty acids remained unchanged or decreased by graded glucose infusion. Glucose infusion decreased the total yields of C16 ＋ C16：1 and 〉 C16 fatty acids and had no influence on the yield of C4-C14：1 fatty acids （P 〈 0.05）. Results of the present study implied that increased glucose supply had positive effects on the production of milk, milk protein, milk fat, and lactose only when glucose was a limiting factor for milk synthesis. Excessive glucose supply had no further beneficial effects and might depress milk fat synthesis.

The visualization and data mining of tumor multidimensional information may play a major role in the analysis of the growth,metastasis,and microenvironmental changes of tumors while challenging traditional imaging and data processing *** this study,a general trans-scale and multi-modality measurement method was developed for the quantitative diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)using a combination of propagation-based phase-contrast computed tomography(PPCT),scanning transmission soft X-ray microscopy(STXM),and Fourier transform infrared micro-spectroscopy(FTIR).Our experimental results reveal the trans-scale micro-morpho-logical HCC pathology and facilitate quantitative data analysis and comprehensive *** results include some visualization features of PPCT-based tissue microenvironments,STXM-based cellular fine structures,and FTIR-based bio-macromolecular spectral characteris-tics during HCC tumor differentiation and *** proposed method provides multidimensional feature data support for constructing a high-accuracy machine learning algorithm based on a gray-level histogram,gray-gradient co-occurrence matrix,gray-level co-occurrence matrix,and back-propagation neural network ***-dimensional information analysis and diagnosis revealed the morphological pathways of HCC pathological evolution and we explored the relationships between HCC-related feature changes in inflammatory microenviron-ments,cellular metabolism,and the stretching vibration peaks of biomolecules of lipids,proteins,and nucleic ***,the proposed methodology has strong potential for the visualization of complex tumors and assessing the risks of tumor differentiation and metastasis.

The initial micro-cracks affect the evolution characteristics of macroscopic deformation and failure of rock but are often ignored in theoretical calculation,numerical simulation,and mechanical *** this study,we propose a quantitative analysis model to investigate the effects of initial micro-cracks on the evolution of marble deformation and *** relationship between the micro-crack propagation and the marble failure characteristics was comprehensively studied by combining theoretical analysis with a micro-computed tomography(micro-CT)scanning *** found that with the increase of confining pressure,the matrix elastic modulus of the marble first increased and then tended to be stable,while the micro-cracks increased *** sensitivity ranges of the marble sample matrix elastic modulus and micro-cracks to confining pressure were 0–30 MPa and 30–50 MPa,*** porosity and Poisson’s ratio decreased *** increasing proportion of internal micro-cracks led to an increase in the sample *** samples presented mainly shear failure under triaxial compression,and the failure angle decreased linearly with the increase of confining *** convergence direction of cracks decreased *** quantitative analysis model could accurately portray the relationship between the overall macroscopic deformation and the deviatoric stress of the samples at the compaction and the linear elastic stages,thus deepening the understanding of the stress–strain behavior of rocks.

Multiester-appended imidazolium ionic liquids were synthesized in a quatemization reaction between the imidazole derivatives carrying single or double esters and ethyl chloroacetate or bromoethane. Multicarboxylic-appended imidazolium ionic liquids were achieved from the hydrolysis of the corresponding ionic liquids. The influences of multifunctional groups on the transition temperatures and viscosity of these new ionic liquids were investigated.

Developing the high activity,low cost and robust large-current-density-based electrocatalysts is of great significance for the industrial electrolytic water ***,the current range of most reported materials is small,which makes it difficult for them to play their roles in practical ***,a self-supported amorphous FexNi1-xMo O4/IF treated with ammonium fluoride (AF_(0.1)-FNMO/IF) is synthesized by one-step hydrothermal *** the help of NH4F,AF_(0.1)-FNMO/IF exhibits a vertically cross-linked nanosheet with spherical *** measurement shows that AF_(0.1)-FNMO/IF affords a large current density ordeal and only need low overpotentials of 289 and 345 m V to reach a current response of 500 m A/cm ^(2)for oxygen evolution reaction and hydrogen evolution reaction,respectively,together with long-time stability (both at 500,1000 and 2000 m A/cm ^(2)) in 1.0 mol/L KOH *** it as bifunctional catalyst for overall water splitting,the current densities of 100,500,1000 and1500 m A/cm ^(2)are achieved at a cell voltage of 1.71,1.88,1.94 and 1.97 V with excellent durability,which is much better than that of most published *** work provides valuable insight for designing higher activity nickel iron-based molybdate catalysts with large current density.
