Enabling flexible fibers with light-emitting capabilities has the potential to revolutionize the design of smart wearable interactive devices.A recent publication in light Science&Application,an interdisciplinary team of scientists led by Prof.Yan-Qing Lu and Prof.Guangming Tao has realized a highly flexible,uniformly luminescent photochromic fiber based on a mass-produced thermal drawing method.It overcomes the shortcomings of existing commercial lightdiffusing fibers,exhibiting outstanding one-dimensional linear illumination performance.The research team integrated controllable photochromic fibers into various wearable interaction interfaces,providing a novel approach and insights to enable human-computer interaction.

Rare-earth and transition metal ion single-/co-doped double-perovskite tantalate phosphors: Validation of suitability for versatile applications

Novel rare-earth (RE;e.g., europium (Eu^(3+)), samarium (Sm^(3+)), and praseodymium (Pr^(3+))) and transition metal (TM^(4+);e.g., manganese (Mn^(4+))) ion single-/co-doped double-perovskite Ca2InTaO6 (CITO) phosphors were prepared and investigated with respect to their crystal structure and photoluminescence (PL) properties. Among them, the CITO:Eu^(3+) phosphors were found to exhibit an ultra-high internal PL quantum yield (89.1%) and good thermal stability (78.7% at 423 K relative to the initial value at 303 K). As such, the corresponding packaged white light-emitting diode (LED) was able to display a remarkable color rendering index (CRI;= 91.51@10 mA). Besides, the potential in applications of anti-counterfeiting fields and a novel LED structure based on flexible phosphor-converted films was also studied. Moreover, due to their different thermal quenching, trivalent lanthanide (Ln^(3+))/Mn^(4+) co-doped CITO phosphors were designed for optical thermometry based on the luminescence intensity ratio (liR) between different 4f transitions of various Ln^(3+) ions and ^(2)Eg → ^(4)A_(2g) (Mn^(4+)) transition. Particularly, the liR between the ^(4)G_(5/2) → ^(6)H_(9/2) and ^(2)Eg → ^(4)A_(2g) peaks of the CITO activated with 5 mol% Sm^(3+) and 0.3 mol% Mn^(4+) exhibited the most excellent relative sensitivity (Sr;= 3.80 %·K^(−1)) with beneficial temperature uncertainty of 0.0648 K. Overall, these results are of significance to offer valuable databases for constructing multifunctional high-performance optical platforms using single-/co-doped double-perovskite tantalates.

The World Population Prospects report,published by the United Nations in 2022,revealed a decline in the global population growth rate(PGR)to less than 1%—the lowest recorded rate since 1950.Predictions suggest a further decrease to 0.5%by 2050,culminating in negative growth in more than 60 countries and intensifying the issue of population aging(1).China,a highly populous nation,is encountering even more acute challenges.By the conclusion of 2022,China’s population totaled approximately 1.412 billion,reflecting a decline of 850,000 from the prior year and a natural PGR of−0.06%(2).

This paper investigates the cooperative output regulation problem of heterogeneous linear multi-agent systems over directed graphs with the constraint of communication bandwidth.Given that there exists an exosystem whose state information is not available to all agents,the authors develop distributed adaptive event-triggered observers for the followers based on relative information between neighboring agents.It should be pointed out that,two kinds of time-varying gains are introduced to avoid relying on any global information associated with the network,and dynamic triggering conditions are designed to get rid of continuous communications.On the basis of the designed observers,the authors devise a local controller for each agent.Compared with the existing related works,the main contribution of the current paper is that the cooperative output regulation problem for general directed graphs is solved requiring neither global information nor continuous communications.

Huntington’s disease(HD)is an autosomal dominantly-inherited neurodegenerative disease,which is caused by CAG trinucleotide expansion in exon 1 of the Huntingtin(HTT)gene.Although HD is a rare disease,its monogenic nature makes it an ideal model in which to understand pathogenic mechanisms and to develop therapeutic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases.Clustered regularly-interspaced short palindromic repeats(CRISPR)is the latest technology for genome editing.Being simple to use and highly efficient,CRISPR-based genome-editing tools are rapidly gaining popularity in biomedical research and opening up new avenues for disease treatment.Here,we review the development of CRISPR-based genome-editing tools and their applications in HD research to offer a translational perspective on advancing the genome-editing technology to HD treatment.

This work addresses the mean-square stability and stabilizability problem for minimum-phase multi-input and multi-output(MIMO)plant with a novel colored multiplicative feedback uncertainty.The proposed uncertainty is generalization of the i.***.d.multiplicative noise and assumed to be a stochastic system with random finite impulse response(FIR),which has advantage on modeling a class of network phenomena such as random transmission delays.A concept of coefficient of frequency variation is developed to characterize the proposed uncertainty.Then,the mean-square stability for the system is derived,which is a generalization of the well-known mean-square small gain theorem.Based on this,the mean-square stabilizability condition is established,which reveals the inherent connection between the stabilizability and the plant’s unstable poles and the coefficient of frequency variation of the uncertainty.The result is verified by a numerical example on the stabilizability of a networked system with random transmission delay as well as analog erasure channel.

Ferroelectric(FE)phase transition with a large polarization change benefits to generate large electrocaloric(EC)effect for solid-sate and zero-carbon cooling application.However,most EC studies only focus on the single-physical factor associated phase transition.Herein,we initiated a comprehensive discussion on phase transition in Pb_(0.99)Nb_(0.02)[(Zr_(0.6)Sn_(0.4))1−xTix]_(0.98)O_(3)(PNZST100x)antiferroelectric(AFE)ceramic system under the joint action of multi-physical factors,including composition,temperature,and electric field.Due to low energy barrier and enhanced zero-field entropy,the multi-phase coexistence point(x=0.12)in the composition–temperature phase diagram yields a large positive EC peak of maximum temperature change(ΔT_(max))=2.44 K(at 40 kV/cm).Moreover,the electric field–temperature phase diagrams for four representative ceramics provide a more explicit guidance for EC evolution behavior.Besides the positive EC peaks near various phase transition temperatures,giant positive EC effects are also brought out by the electric field-induced phase transition from tetragonal AFE(AFET)to low-temperature rhombohedral FE(FER),which is reflected by a positive-slope boundary in the electric field–temperature phase diagram,while significant negative EC responses are generated by the phase transition from AFET to high-temperature multi-cell cubic paraelectric(PEMCC)with a negative-slope phase boundary.This work emphasizes the importance of phase diagram covering multi-physical factors for high-performance EC material design.

Membrane technology has attracted considerable attention for chemical and medical applications,among others.Artificial organs play important roles in medical science.A membrane oxygenator,also known as artificial lung,can replenish O_(2) and remove CO_(2) of blood to maintain the metabolism of patients with cardiopulmonary failure.However,the membrane,a key component,is subjected to inferior gas transport property,leakage propensity,and insufficient hemocompatibility.In this study,we report efficient blood oxygenation by using an asymmetric nanoporous membrane that is fabricated using the classic nonsolvent-induced phase separation method for polymer of intrinsic microporosity-1.The intrinsic superhydrophobic nanopores and asymmetric configuration endow the membrane with water impermeability and gas ultrapermeability,up to 3,500 and 1,100 gas permeation units for CO_(2) and O_(2),respectively.Moreover,the rational hydrophobic–hydrophilic nature,electronegativity,and smoothness of the surface enable the substantially restricted protein adsorption,platelet adhesion and activation,hemolysis,and thrombosis for the membrane.Importantly,during blood oxygenation,the asymmetric nanoporous membrane shows no thrombus formation and plasma leakage and exhibits fast O_(2) and CO_(2) transport processes with exchange rates of 20 to 60 and 100 to 350 ml m^(−2) min^(−1),respectively,which are 2 to 6 times higher than those of conventional membranes.The concepts reported here offer an alternative route to fabricate high-performance membranes and expand the possibilities of nanoporous materials for membrane-based artificial organs.
